Hello! Thank you all for your reviews! I will talk about them now! Thank you also for the favs and follows! Because I like doing Lara's POV more, most of it will probably be in hers. I'll do Alex's some too though.
NikitaKServensky~ Thank you! Glad you like it! Trying a new idea, that someone hasn't used. And yeah...
Jason Miller~ Of course I will! This chapter just took me a couple days to complete. I'll do a bit of both. I wanna keep in the story-line, but add thing that weren't in there. It'll get more as their relationship continues.
Lara
The sky was probably darker than where I was. It was beautiful, but I need to move. The path is narrow, so Alex will have to walk after me. I guess he could walk beside me, it wasn't that narrow. I'd let him decide though. I gingerly held my hand to the wound. It still felt like a burning, and Alex noticed my disability.
"So, what did you do to your side?" He asked.
I felt somewhat annoyed. I knew I told him I'd answer questions later, I just didn't have the patience. I wasn't in the mood, and I wasn't sure if I wanted to talk about it. But I had to, because I told him I would.
"When I got out, by lighting the cloth on fire that was around me, I fell. And when I fell, a sharp needle happened to be sticking out. And I happened to be falling in the wrong spot." I said, gulping. It was somewhat rude and short, I did care, but only slightly.
Alex nodded, seeming to take my rudeness as a hint not to ask anymore questions. Suddenly, I realized I had a question. After my rudeness I wasn't sure how Alex was going to feel about me asking a question. I looked over at Alex, then decided to ask later.
The sun is hidden behind dark clouds, barley letting light through. The sun casts and orange ray through the darkness. Trees and bushes are everywhere around me. The wall next to me is made of rock, grey and muddy brown. The sun reflects on the ocean giving it blue, yellow, and green streaks. It looks kinda grey as well. Parts of wooden ships lie in the ocean, broken next to black rocks.
I get tired and collapse on a tree big enough to hold me. As I look down I see the shoreline. There are black rocks and the waves crash violently against it, pieces of woods are everywhere. And then I see it, it's not broken or destroyed an it's red stands out. I look over to Alex.
"A lifeboat!" He moves over beside me and looks out. Then he frowns, "But where are they?"
I take a breath and start to walk forward. "They must have gone inland. We need to find them."
As we walk forward, me first, followed by Alex I see a waterfall. The sounds of all the ocean crashing and the waterfall are hypnotic, almost calming. I'm calmer than I was...I don't actually know how long ago it was. I've lost sense of time. I remember the day we crashed, but how many days has it been since? I shrug it off, and continue forward.
There is a gap where the waterfall is between the land, and the only way to get across is a big branch. It's not steady looking, but as far as I can see, it's the only way to get across. I'm not going back. Breath Lara, you can do this. I tell myself.
I look over to Alex. "I'll go first, just watch me. Copy me, okay? But don't get on until after I've crossed." I explain. Alex nods in understanding. Maybe he took my not talk thing as a don't speak at all.
As I walk up I mutter to myself, "Okay take it slow." Then I hear Alex's voice behind me. "C'mon Lara, you can do it."
I put my arms out in front of my, my breathing is in semi gasps and I'm pretty sure Alex can hear it. The wind swings my ponytail to the side facing the waterfall. I shake and swing when I lift a leg up. And when I pick up my next leg, I miss the log and collapse down, hand gripping the log to stay on.
"Lara!" Alex called out, almost running out.
"Alex, you have to stay there, you'll make it worse!" I called out, standing up, my legs shaking in fear.
I walk forward, and when I get close I speed up. As soon as I got off, my hand flew to my side. "Okay...!" I lean over and breath. I made it, now I just have to wait for Alex. Alex put his hand behind his head and calls out.
"Um...Lara? How am I suppose to do this?"
I look around. "Just copy what I did." I say, holding my arms out to demonstrate. Alex grins. "All except the falling part?" I roll my eyes and nod.
Alex gulps and put his arms out. He walks shaking two times worse than I did. And every time he takes a step, he gasps. He slowly walks, and when he gets to where the tree branch has some branches sticking out of it he uses them for support. But as soon as the log rocks with the extra weight, he let's go and tries to steady it. When he gets close enough he jumps off the log onto the ground, at my feet.
Alex pushes himself up, then mentions forward. I get what he means and continue forward. I spot another gap, and jump, my arms grabbing the edge and I'm strong enough I pull myself up to my waist and wiggle up from there. Alex does the same.
I start to jog, jogging through a pillar when I see something strange. Hanging from some tree branches, in front of a waterfall, is a airplane. It's small, hanging from some trees. I would presume that it's been here for quiet a long time.
"Huh?" I mutter, walking again. "We're going to have to go across it." Alex says.
"Okay..." I breath, "I can do this."
I walk to the edge and jump up to grab the plane. All of it's basically been torn off, or the front of it. The skeleton of the plane still remains, working as a ladder, and a way across. When I jump up I lose my grip some and swing my arm to regain it.
"Oh gosh." I mutter, when seeing I have to jump up.
I grunt as I jump, making it. Alex is right below me. He can do this. I can do this. I breath. We're going to make it. I keep saying this through my head, and it helps me gain courage. I scramble quickly up, and when Alex follows the part below him breaks free, falling parts of the plane are in the way, so I make my way to the side. And start to climb up again. I once again go to the side. I'm now on the wing.
"Come on. Come on." I say.
I jump across the wing, and when I do the railing collapses. "Agh!" I call out pulling myself back up.
Alex grunts and groans at pulling. "Lara! You okay?" He manages to look over. "Fine!" I yell.
When I get to the edge, and jump the plane starts to lay low with my weight, sending me flying down and rolling on the floor. I move out of the way as the wing comes crashing down. Then I realize. Alex.
"Alex!" I scream, running over.
Alex pops up from the other side of the wing. He dusts himself off. Thank goodness he is okay. I start walking, and the road gets thinner. Alex walks behind me and we put our one of our hands on the wall to keep balance. The other hand remains at my side.
I notice the high jump that I'll have to make to get up. It's the only way out. So I run up and jump on the wall, jumping up higher and grabbing the edge, pulling myself up. When I look down at Alex, his mouth is open.
"How did you do that?" he asks.
"Run up, jump on the wall, and use the momentum to push yourself higher to grab the edge. Then pull yourself up." I explain.
Alex runs and jumps on the wall, but he doesn't go up and end up falling back on the ground. Come on Alex! I almost yell, We've got to move! But he tries again and lazily grabs the wall, almost falling. I grab his arm and help pull him up.
Me and Alex walk to the edge, and then I see remains that indicate that they were here not that long ago. "Sam's pack!" I announce, running and jumping down. I land on my knees but easily push myself up. I'm not sure if Alex has jumped down and when I look behind me, he's got his hands on the edge and is lowering himself down.
I run up and look all around. Alex walks beside me. "Sam!" I yell.
"Reyes!" Alex yells. "Doctor Whitman!"
When no one answers I pick up Sam's bag and look at Alex. "They must have come this way." It has started to rain, and I barley notice it. Alex takes of his glasses and wipes the rain on his shirt. I open Sam's pack and look inside. I pull out a cam recorder and put it in my pocket.
Next I pull out some matches, which I also put in my pocket. And finally a radio. I turn it on. The static is loud and buzzing. It works! I press the button down to talk.
"Sam?! Roth?" I ask, hoping they'll hear. "Can anyone hear me?" No answer. I put the radio in my back pocket.
Alex stands next to me. "We've got to find them."
He looks out. "Which way do you suppose they went?" I point forward to a higher piece of land. We're going to have to jump.
"There." I say.
Alex gestures for me to go first and I comply.
Okay. I run forward and jump grabbing the edge. But when I do my hand slips, and the piece of rock breaks off. I screams as I fall and tumble. I flip and them start to roll. I breath heavily and then look up. Alex. I can't see him.
"Lara!?" He yells. I breath and yell up. "I'm okay!"
I hear him sigh in relief. "I'm coming down!"
What!? No! "No Alex, get the others!" I call back hoping.
But before I know it Alex is rolling down the hill after me. He gets up. I sigh. Lightning flashes. We need to take cover from the storm, I grab Alex's arm and tug him forward. He follows me, saying nothing. I breath heavily and jog slightly weird. My side hurt so bad. I see shelter up ahead and head in it's direction. Wolves howl in the distance.
I lean down and go under the rock, Alex following behind. When I make it out I stand up. The rock still acts as shelter, thank goodness. I hold my hands to my arms and start to shiver. I rub my face. So cold, and ache so bad. When I look up I see a pit of a fire.
"Looks abandoned..." I say. Alex walks next to me. When I see the water dripping of the rock I run over. I could care less about my hand being dirty. I thrust them out, getting some rain water in my hands and drink.
Alex walks over and follows orders. "Lara this water taste like dirt." I point to his hands. He sticks them out and washes them in the rain. I pull away and still shiver. I grab out the radio. I'm going to try again. I have to keep trying.
"Is anyone listening? Please respond." I say.
Static plays, but no voice. Someone hear! I want to yell into the radio. Someone hear...please. No one answers while I sit. I look down at the fire, then around.
"Alex, grab some weeds." I command.
He looks at the fire pit. "Okay." And grabs some weeds, bringing them over to me.
I set the weeds in the middle of fire pit. Then I set some sticks up around it. I grab out the match box, and when I open it my face drops. I have to do this right. Alex leans over after seeing my face.
"What?" He asks. I hold the box over to him. One match.
With shakey hands I light the match, it lights! Then I gentle put it over to the weeds, my hand covering it against the rain. When I put it to the weeds, it sets fire and together me and Alex blow on the fire.
It comes up in orange flames and I lean close to it. I realize when I breath it comes out like a dragon. I sit back and ease off some. Not shivering as much anymore. I can't believe today's events. I don't want to believe. I want to wake up on the Endurance and pretend this never happened.
I pull the radio out of my pocket and set it on the ground. I pull out the cam recorder, wondering what's on it. Alex sits down next to me. I find a video and click on it. A way to pass time, like a movie.
I'm sitting at my desk, working. Hard. Ah, I remember this. Sam walks closer to me.
"Here's the soon-to-be-world-famous archeologist, Lara Croft, in her native habitat." Sam has the camera basically in my face. Then she turns it towards the mirror. "She's on the hunt for the lost kingdom of Yamatai." She speaks softly. "Home to the fabulous Himiko, mythical Sun Queen... And ancestor of your truly." She announces, turning the camera back to me.
I laugh softly and look at her, then back down. "Sam...this is serious."
I study the papers. I was trying to find a way to Yamatai...
"Oh sweetie, I know. I'm just trying to lighten the mood here." I look up. "Everyone's so on edge. What are you so worried about?" She asks concerned.
I tilt my head sideways. "I'm close to something. I'm sure of it." I was right on track. I lean back. "I just don't know if the others will listen...Or even if they should..." I look around. I remember what I had been thinking. Maybe it was there! Possibly! But if it wasn't...but I had been right. And maybe being right was worse than being wrong.
"Lara, you know this stuff better than anyone!" Sam encouraged. "Seriously. I'm not just saying this to make you feel better. I trust you...Roth trust you! You got this."
I look up and smile at Sam. "Let's take a break, okay?"
I stand up, giving up. "Okay, okay!" I look over. "And Sam...thanks."
Sam turns the camera to herself. "She's not always this serious, you know?"
And the video ends, leading onto another one.
Jonah is stirring a bowl. Roth and Grim yell for different football teams. It goes and shows Roth and Grim. Then it goes to me and Dr. Whitman. He's angry. Very angry.
"How can you suggest I'm not serious about this expedition, Lara?" He asks in disbelief. "It's not only Sam's family funding us. I put my savings on the line too."
Reyes was looking at a device in her hands. Not looking up, she said, "We've all got some kind of stake in this." She looked up. "The founding won't last forever Whitman."
The camera turned back to me and Dr. Whitman. "That's exactly why we should push east, not west." I try.
Dr. Whitman continues. "No one believes Yama-" He's intrupted as Grim yells when he's team scores a goal. I smile at the memory. Dr. Whitman speaks louder. "No one believes Yamatai's that far east."
He picks up a book. "The books simply don't support it!"
Sam looks up from a book. "Well, whoever wrote those books never found Yamatai."
I urge on. "I've talked to Roth about this. There's no point in following in other people's footsteps Dr. Whitman." I point to the map. On it is a little ciricle island, where I believe Yamatai is. If he would just believe me...
He shakes his head, his hands on his hips. He points his finger down. "I refuse to bet my reputation on your hunch!" He says strictly. He places his hand on his chest and says firmly and quiet loud. "I'm the lead archaeologist here."
Grim speaks up. "And when where you last in field without a TV crew behind you?" The camera zooms in on Grim, who stirring a steaming pot.
Slowly, Dr. Whitman turns around to Grim while saying, "Got thirty years experience, two PhD's, one in East Asian history." Roth and Jonah eye him in the background, while Grim gives him what seems like a stare that could kill.
"So why don't you just stick to boats Mr. Grim." Dr. Whitman said, turning around.
"Ship, Dr. Whitman." Grim corrected. "It's a ship. Don't need a PhD to know that."
I spoke up, disrupting the argument. "Look. Going east will take us directly to the Dragon's Triangle." I explain.
Whitman looked at the maps. "That's where we need to go."
Jonah set things on the table, looking at me. "Lara, my little bird...I'd follow you almost anywhere, but that place has bad energy." I look at Jonah's face, and Dr. Whitman looks between us.
Alex speaks up. "Bad storms more likely. Makes the Bermuda Triangle look like Disney World... Sign me up." He chuckles softly.
What Alex says make it seem even more likely. "The stories say that Queen Himiko could summon storms." I said up taller. "Myths are usual based on some version of the truth!"
Dr. Whitman crosses his arms and looks up while I say this. "What if Yamatai was somewhere in the Triangle itself?"
Alex turns around his weather machine, "Look, this is the satellite imagery from inside the Dragon's Triangle."
All of us study it. "That doesn't look good." Sam announces. Grim looked at it. "If it's wet, I can sail on it."
Dr. Whitman puts his hands on his waist. "Don't tell me your seriously cons-" Roth cuts in.
"Reyes is right, we don't have the funds to play about. It's now or never." He stands up and walks over. "Lara's offering fresh ideas and a plan." He points down.
"I'm the captain here, and it's my decision." He points to the Dragon's Triangle on the map. "We're going into the Dragon's Triangle."
Dr. Whitman picks up his food and looks up. "Why am I even here?" He asks annoyed, walking off.
Me and Roth look down at the map. "Go on...show us your plan."
The video cuts out. I close the camera. Alex looks over at me.
"Hmm..." He says. I turn my head to the side.
"What?" I ask.
He shakes his head and smiles. "Nothing."
