The red steam engine whistled loudly as it pulled into the station, filled to the brim with Hogwarts students ready for summer break or their break into the real world to them. The station was soon filled with reuniting families and soon they began dispersing through either the floo or the portal to the normal world. Harry was excited to see his brother after a year and to meet the few friends that Charles was always going on about during the summer. Since Harry brought home a few of his friends, Charles was allowed a few of his, plus it would help to make a few connections before Camp Jupiter showed up at Hogwarts. It was only the Potters at the station today as it would have been unnecessary for them to bring the rest of the group here only to turn around and go back home.
Harry saw his brother finally make his way over followed by two individuals. Harry's eyes flickered briefly to his brother's lightning shaped scar, the only reminder of that fateful night. Charles had been cursed by the family's bad eyesight which Harry was thankful he had avoided. They were both close in height and just a bit shorter than their father with Charles being the shorter of the two. He noticed the gangly red head to Charles' right and saw that the he was a bit taller than the both of them Harry wondered who would be taller, Jason or his brother's friend.
Charles and Harry's grins were identical as Charles approached the group and they gave each other a brief hug. After the first year separate, the two brothers had grown closer than ever. It seemed that absence did make the heart grow fonder. Charles hugged his mom and dad and then turned to talk to Harry. "I thought you said you had a couple of friends over for the summer?"
"They're at the manor, it didn't make sense for all of them to come and pick you up just to turn around and head back. Since only two of them have experience with magical travel we wanted to spare them as much as we can. Plus, nothing really beats seeing the Express and then riding on it according to mum and dad."
"Fair enough. Oh yeah, you already know Ron, but this is Hermione," Charles said introducing the slightly buck toothed, bushy haired young woman.
"Pleased to meet you," Harry grinned at her.
"Alright you four, let's get back to the manor," James spoke up. "We need to get our two newest guests settled in and it is nearing dinner time." After a quick lesson explaining floo travel to Hermione, the group of six arrived in Potter Manor.
"Flopsy," Lily called out, and a house elf appeared in front of them. "We have two more guests. Could you take their luggage to their rooms?"
"Of course Mistress Lily," The house elf squeaked. The manor had never been this filled and she and the rest of the Potter house elves were ecstatic for the extra work. With a pop, the excited house elf vanished with Hermione's and Ron's luggage.
"Wait you own a house elf?" Hermione asked. She just assumed that house elves were owned by the wealthy pureblood snobs and treated as slaves. She never expected her idol and the woman she was always compared to would own slaves.
Lily saw the look in Hermione's eyes and sighed. She knew where Hermione was coming from as she had had the same reaction to the Potters owning house elves and it didn't help that the only house elf Hermione had met was owned by the Malfoys. "There is a book in the library that explains all about house elves in the Potter family. You can borrow it and start reading tonight, but don't let the actions of one family and their house elf jade your view on everything. Now come on, I'm pretty sure Harry's friends are on the back porch."
"Mum," Harry said before they reached the porch, "Can me and Charles duel again tonight?" There was a sibling rivalry between the two brothers which had transferred to magical training. Since they weren't going to the same school and the teachers varied, they always tried to one up each other. Lily hadn't wanted the boys to know of the loophole that was giving to all of the children born in the magical world, but she wanted to see Harry's grasp of magic as well. So, she allowed one night where her two boys could use magic other than learning the few spells they had been assigned to research as summer homework. At the end of the first year of their magical education, James and Sirius had taught the boys how to duel and so every year they would compete. They also dueled at the end of the summer after they had shared tips each of them had learned with the other.
"That's fine," Lily answered with a smile, "Your uncles will be here tonight and I'm sure they will want to see you two duel as well as your father."
"Yes!" The two boys cheered as they stepped onto the porch and came up to Harry's guests. Alan and Alyss had commandeered a small corner of the porch with lounge chairs and were simply enjoying the peace of Potter manor. New Rome, although it took the style of when Rome was at its highest power, the numerous preteens and teens made it a very busy and loud place. Reyna and Jason were lightly sparing with some of the blunted weapons that the Potter had decorating their halls, as they were a little bored, but were still awkward at their friend's house. As the newcomers arrived on the porch, the demigods stopped what they were doing and moved to greet Harry while finally meeting his brother and friends.
"Guys," Harry started, "This is my brother Charles," Who waved his hand and instantly took a liking to his brother's friends as none stared at his scar. "And his friends Ron Wealey and Hermione Granger." Hermione shrunk a little inside herself as the two other females were quite pretty. "Charles and friends, this is Alan Roberson, who was the leader of my cohort for the last few years, and his fiancé Alyss Skylar. The blonde haired goofball is Jason Grace and this," Harry said as he wrapped his arms around Reyna, "Is my girlfriend Reyna Ramirez."
Charles was sufficiently jealous of his brother who had landed an exotic beauty such as Reyna. After all, those of Latin descent were not numerous in Hogwarts. The closest that could come to Reyna were the Patil twins, whom Charles had a crush on Padma, and Cho Chang. After pleasantries were exchanged, everybody moved into the dining room when the head elf cook popped in to notify everyone that dinner was ready.
Just as everyone was about to dig into the meal, Alan turned to Harry and raised one of his eyebrows. "In here, or is there some place other that we need to sacrifice?"
Lily overheard the question and her eyes widened. "Oh, I'm sorry," Lily apologized. She tended to visit Camp Jupiter twice a year and had seen the entire camp sacrifice at meals. She could never make out what the campers said as they sacrificed a portion of their meals, but she knew it was something of a tradition for all of them. "Mipsy," She called one of the house elves, "Could you bring the portable fire pit in here? Our guests have a tradition they observe that needs it lit."
"Of course mistress," The elf popped out and in a few seconds came back with a lit fire.
"Thank you Lily," Alyss said as the demigods got up and scraped a portion of their meal off. "To the gods," They all whispered and Lily was finally able to catch it, although it still did not make sense to her, it was simply another clue.
"Why did you do that? And what's with your matching tattoos?" Hermione finally asked. She had noticed the tattoos after they were introduced, but she didn't want to pry. However, her curious nature could only be contained for so long.
"That is a secret," Jason grinned while tapping his nose, but swiftly received a slap to the back of his head for his troubles.
"Come on Jason, you were told what we could discuss and what we couldn't. You can see how curious she is," Reyna pointed out. "And don't try to pass this off, you were the first one to open your mouth."
Jason looked around to the other three demigods and all he got were smirks at his pain for his trouble. Sighing, Jason took up the explanation, "Fine, I can't tell you about us scraping the food into the fire, because that is a secret of the camp. However, our tattoos show how many years we've gone to camp, who represents us at a certain location, and generally it tells our affinities. Alan's mark of the legion," Here, Alan moved his arm so all could see his mark, "Also represents the fact that he is our ambassador when certain groups show up at our location."
"Okay," Hermione said as she processed the information, and the rest of the group dug into the meal. "So, since you have a lightning bolt Jason, I assume your affinity is lightning?" Jason nodded as his mouth was full of food. "Alright, but what do your marks mean she pointed to Harry and Reyna.
"My mark means I have an affinity for war games and leadership. Harry's means he has the innate ability to pull a victory out of thin air and encourage all of his troops. It's not so fun when others challenge our cohort and we can work in sync," Reyna smirked. With the way they worked together and inspired the soldiers, many were clamoring to change the rules and put them as centurions. By the time Harry and Reyna returned to Camp Jupiter, there would be a decision made.
As the others talked, Alan's eyes kept being drawn to the scar on Charles' forehead although it didn't make sense as he was not enamored with the story of the boy-who-lived. Trying to satisfy his curiosity, he pushed a little bit of magic into his eyes and activated his mage sight. What he saw made Alan hiss lowly in anger and pain. While the others didn't hear Alan, Alyss was sitting close to him and James had been distracted from the conversation for a moment. "What's wrong?" Alyss asked as she was his mage sight diminish.
"I need to talk to Dumbledore," Alan told James. "Tell him it is about the person that Dumbledore asked the legion to help with."
"What's going on? Why did you hiss when you looked at Charles?"
"Just go get Dumbledore, he's the only one that can confirm my sights and I don't want anybody to worry. If he is busy tell him it can wait a few days, but he needs to be here at the end of the week." Looking unsure, but noticing the pleading look in Alan's eyes, he was convinced to at least speak to Dumbledore. No one noticed James disappear from the table as everyone was involved with the pre-duel talk between Harry and Charles.
"Alan, what was that all about?" Alyss asked quietly. She was worried because it was very rarely when he got like this.
"I truly hope that I'm wrong, but if I'm not, I know how Britain's magical boogeyman survived that night." Alyss' eyes grew wide just as two new gentlemen and a woman with a child entered the room.
"Pups!" The man with black hair yelled out as he entered. Sirius Black was here and he was happy to see his pseudo-nephews. They in return were happy to see their uncles as Remus entered soon after. After the round of hugs, Sirius focused on Harry, "I know Charles' friends, but I don't know yours. Come on introduce us."
As Harry began his introductions James snuck back into the room. "Dumbledore said he would be here tomorrow morning. Since you didn't say it was urgent, he had a few things to take care of tonight."
"And this is Alan, he was my cohort leader for the last few years." Alan smiled and shook Sirius' and his wife's hand easily enough, but when he touched Remus' hands, he reacted.
Before anyone could stop him, Alan tightened his hold on Remus and pulled him off balance with his right hand. As his right hand was busy, his left pulled out the silver dagger that he always carried with him. The knife was poised and ready to strike before he caught himself. The dining room was silent as most stared in shock while Alyss had a look of understanding on her. "Sorry about that," He grinned while putting away his dagger.
"Um, Alan," Harry spoke up, "What was that?" He never expected one that he looked up to like an older brother to react to one of his family like that.
"He's a werewolf," A dawn of understanding crossed Jason and Reyna's face while Harry was still confused, "And you didn't warn me."
"What the hell does that have to do with anything?" James said, his Potter temper rising. He genuinely liked the young man, but he was Remus' friend first and no one attacked his friends.
"I'm connected to the moon more than any of the creatures on this Earth. So, I know what else is connected as well. One of the biggest threats to a member of Camp Jupiter is a werewolf pack and their leader, the king of all werewolves. I've had a few run-ins with them and none of them have ever ended well. I've trained myself simply to react where werewolves are concerned."
The family calmed down a bit after Alan's explanations. They could understand if he had bad experiences as the Marauders were still feeling guilty over their prank on Severus. "So will this happen often?" Lily asked.
"It should be fine, but Remus I wouldn't touch myself just in case. I don't know why I stopped this time, but until I can equate you with a do not kill sign, I would be careful."
"Indeed," Remus chuckled nervously. Even Moony was scared of the young man in front of him as there was no way that he could have avoided the silver knife. "Wait, you said the king of werewolves. Do you mean Lycaon?" With a nod, Remus continued, "Then you."
"Wait Uncle Remus," Harry interrupted. "If you know where we are from and what we do, you can't tell anyone. Everyone must learn the secrets for themselves."
Lily and Hermione pouted slightly as they wanted to know the secrets and Remus had found out so quickly. Laughing at his wife and the young girl that reminded him of Lily's early years, James brought everybody back to what everyone was looking forward to. "Isn't there supposed to be a duel going on?"
A/N: Sorry about the wait guys, I just could not get this chapter started. So, I alluded to a duel, but I have no idea how to write a magical duel. I'd say I'm fairly decent at sword fights and guns and ships, but I don't know. If anyone feels like they could write a duel that has Harry winning, (I'm thinking Harry wins at the start of summer, but since Charles is marked he can win at the end after he learns Harry's tips) feel free to write and send it and I'll put it in as an Omake and give you credit. Just remember that they are thirteen going on fourteen so I can't see them confident in nonverbal spells yet.
I hope you liked the chapter and if you have any suggestions for how this story goes, feel free to leave a review or PM me. Until next time!
