4. Attack

Fox stared intently through the large hard-glass shield that separated the bridge of the Great Falcon from the empty void of space, he was terribly puzzled. Their voyage had been halted just outside Zoness' gravitational sphere of influence by a stealthy black and red vessel. Falco stood beside him, his arms folded. "Anything" Falco asked Katt, who was sitting and staring down blankly at the large screen of the console in front of her. She turned to Falco and shook her head, "It's not responding to our hails". Fox took a slow breath and folded his arms, mirroring Falco. "Energize the Reflective Plating, bring weapon systems online", Falco commanded. His voice echoed slightly as Katt took action. She quickly pressed the console and began to speak, "attention to all crew, the Great Falcon is now in yellow alert! All crew report to their designated battle stations!" Fox turned to Falco and gazed at him. He had a stern and focused expression that was somewhat reminiscent of General Pepper. Fox chuckled and turned back to view the strange vessel, "you've changed Falco".

The automatic sliding doors that led to the bridge opened, allowing Dash to enter. "What's the situation" he demanded as he walked briskly up to the console to the right of Katt's. "This ship here is the situation" Katt said as she gestured out into the abyss at the dark vessel. "We can't evade it. We can't go around it. We move, it moves with us".

"Sir, all weapon and defense systems are operational. Shall we engage" one of the royal guards asked from the control platforms below. "No, not yet" Dash immediately responded as he put both of his hands on console in front of him, staring at the ship. "Katt" he said.

"Yes, sir"

"Hail them again"

"Alright, sir" she said and proceeded to tap her workstation again then nodded to Dash. "Unidentified vessel, you will remove yourself from the royal Great Falcon's path immediately, do you comply" Dash demanded with a booming voice before slightly lowering his head in anticipation. Fox gazed over Dash and smiled slightly, but his smile quickly dissipated as the bridge stood silent. "Target their engines and prepare to fire" Dash called down to the three guards below as he took his arms from the console and stood up straight. "Your ship is in direct violation of the Laws of Lylat Space. If you do not respond or move your vessel you will be obliterated. So, what say you" Dash commanded. Once again, the bridge fell silent. No response. "Fox, Falco, I suggest you both take a seat now", Dash said as he turned to them before sitting himself down and facing the large glass shield. Fox quickly sat beside him and Falco sat beside Katt. "Alright, Katt prepare to get us out of here, guards fire at their engines", Dash once again commanded with a booming voice. Fox held on to the console as the ship slightly rocked and accelerated upward above the other vessel. Quickly, sharp and thin green streaks protruded from the sides of the Great Falcon and penetrated their engines, resulting in several explosions and the dimming of their bright red glow. Fox gripped the console tightly as their ship shook intensely and continued to accelerate upwards over the other vessel which had disappeared from view. "Sir, the enemy ship is turning this direction" one of the guards shouted to Dash as the shaking began to dissipate. "Sir, the vessel is charging weapons. They're preparing to fire" another guard called, causing Dash to grit his teeth. He stood up and balled his fist and shouted, "Then fire back!". Slowly, the Great Falcon turned and began to circle back to face the enemy ship head-on. However, the other vessel already had them in their sights as it began to discharge bright, blood-red streaks that knifed through space towards Fox and the others.

Fox also began to grit his teeth as the ship shook violently from the first impact, and Katt screamed loudly and rocked back in her chair as another intense impact shook the vessel. Dash held on to the console as he was jolted forward by the blasts, and when the shaking ceased he stood up and frowned out at the void. "Damage report", his voice boomed with authority as the situation was now dire. "Portside Reflective Plating at fifty percent, no hull damage, sir. We're preparing to fire back", one of the guards retorted as the Great Falcon finally completed its turn toward the other vessel. On the hull of the Great Falcon, several small and large openings appeared to reveal weapons of all sorts that turned toward the black and red vessel as they began to emit green light that grew in intensity very quickly. Soon, the light began to discharge all simultaneously. The mass of light pummeled the black and red ship's shields until the thin red layer was penetrated and resulted in a large explosion that cast blindingly-bright light into the void and upon the hull of the Great Falcon. Falco stood and raised his hand through the air and clenched his fist," he chuckled slightly and let out a small smirk, "we got em'".

Suddenly, the sound of another impact rang through the ship followed by the all too familiar violent shaking. Falco fell back in his chair as another explosion was heard and the shaking had intensified. "Report!" Dash exclaimed as the white lights of the bridge were replaced with the sound of sirens and flashing red lights. "Sir, Top Reflective Plating at twelve percent, several hull breaches detected. Another vessel is approaching from above", one of the guards retorted. Fox frowned in anger, even allowing some of his teeth to show. "Dash, the vessel is coming right for us! We need to move!" Katt exclaimed, trying to shout over the raving of sirens. Dash slammed a fist upon the workstation in front of him, "all forward engines, reverse thrust!". Immediately, several small engines that faced forward on the Great Falcon ignited and drove the ship backward as the enemy vessel sliced downward right in front of them and barely missed ramming into them. Fox smirked as the two vessels barely missed each other but his smirk quickly dissipated as he gazed out upon the other ship and witnessed several weapons discharging toward them. Fox felt his body go limp as he was tossed to the ground and a violent tearing and grinding noise rang through the ship. Everything was acting against them and it was just going to get worse.

Author's Update

This entry will be deleted after the introduction of the next chapter.

Hello everyone, I made this report to update everyone on the status of this FanFiciton account and it's story. Currently, Star Fox: Reunion remains unfinished and is nowhere near completion. From what I have written compared to the master outline for this project, only about 17% of the story is finished. My excuse for this is life and growing up. Over the time since this was published, my interests have shifted to other matters such as college, work, and managing my businesses, leaving this website sitting with no updates. Despite this, I have received a lot from other fanfiction authors and friends regarding this story and its completion. Apparently, this is much more popular than I previously believed. In light of this, I will be setting aside time to return to FanFiciton and finish this story, and depending on its feedback, the remainder of the series that was originally promised. Thank you all for the support, I won't leave you hanging for too much longer.

Until next time,

Mumble
