The Doctor and the Rockstar
One Week Later
Sitting on the couch in her apartment Dani, Ashley, and Devon waited for the right time to call Ryan for her interview with him on his radio show. The past week had been incredibly busy and amazing at the same time. She had gone to her two week check up to find out everything was going great, her kidney was functioning just fine, and her stitches were healing. Izzy also had her own two week checkup and everything was going great for her as well. Her body was accepting the kidney, and all of the test they've run has shown no sign of the cancer spreading, so far it looks like the cancer was completely removed when they removed the kidney in surgery. Everything seemed to be going great for both Dani and Izzy.
It also helped that Dani and Santana have been talking and texting all week, and whenever Santana got off early enough she would come over to Dani's apartment for dinner. The two girls were starting to get extremely close, both opening up to one another in ways they never have before, but they have yet to make their relationship official.
In the past week Santana has gotten over a thousand friend requests on Facebook, and over a thousand followers on Twitter and Instagram. Both Santana and Dani have received love and encouragement from Dani's fans, but they've always received some hate, especially Santana. But like she agreed she's stayed off of social media, only seeing things on her email and online, and of course from her friends, especially Rachel, who calls her every day with new gossip.
But Santana didn't care what people were saying, and neither did Dani, both of them were only interested in each other and what was going on between them personally. What the world thought and said didn't matter to them.
"Okay Dani it's time" Ashley said shaking Dani out of her thoughts.
Nodding her head Dani dialed the familiar number. Waiting patiently as they placed on her hold.
"Alright everyone I've got a special treat for you. Right now I've got Neon Lights artist Dani Torrez on the phone" Ryan said making the introduction "Hello Dani".
"Hello Ryan thank you so much for having me" Dani replied.
"Of course Dani we love having you on the show. Now I've gotta say I show your tour a couple of weeks ago, and it was amazing, like all of your concerts but I must say you really went all out for the World Tour, and it really paid off" Ryan said.
"Thank you Ryan that means a lot to me, and yes I really wanted to go all out and do things I've never done before on the World Tour. I had a great time traveling all over the world and meeting new fans, it was truly amazing, and I honestly can't wait to go out on tour again" Dani replied.
"And I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say when we can't wait for another tour. But I've gotta ask, why is that that you've been photographed going in and out of Morgan Stanley Children's Hopsital in New York so much in the last month or so?" Ryan asked.
"Well as you and all of my fans know I have a niece Izzy who's six and who I absolutely adore. When Izzy was four doctors found a cancerous tumor on her kidney. Izzy has been doing chemotherapy for the past two years, waiting for the right time to do a transplant. When we were informed that a kidney transplant would be the only thing to completely get rid of the cancer I immediately went and got tested to see if I was a match. And I was. And two weeks ago I donated one of my kidney's to Izzy" Dani answered trying to keep everything short.
"Wow, that….that is absolutely amazing Dani, and so inspiring. How are both you and Izzy doing now?" Ryan asked.
"Amazing, both of us just had our two week check-ups and everything is going great. My one kidney is functioning just fine on its own, and I'm healing amazingly. And Izzy is fantastic, her body is accepting the kidney and there are no signs of the cancer having spread. Of course we have a long ways to go before everything is normal again but so far were both doing great" Dani answered a huge smile on her face as she talked about her niece.
"That is great to hear, I send the best of luck to both you and Izzy in your recoveries. But I have to ask and I'm sure I'm not the only one who's dieing to know but is that how you met a certain Doctor Santana Lopez?"
"Yes it is actually, Santana is Izzy's doctor" Dani answered simply.
"And what exactly is going on between you and Doctor Lopez? Are you two in a relationship or just friends maybe?"
"Right now Santana and I are getting to know each other. We're enjoying getting to know each other. But I will say that I have fun being with her, she makes me smile and happy when I'm with her, and she's not interested in my fame, she's only interested in me, and that's all I'm going to say right now on that topic" Dani replied not wanting to share any more information with the public then she already had to.
"Well I think that's amazing Dani and I'm very happy for you. I wish the best of luck for you and Izzy, as well as you and Santana. And I hope to hear your new album soon, I can't wait for it" Ryan said ending the show "Once again thank you for being on the show".
"Thank you Ryan and we both know you'll be one of the first people to hear my new album. It was great talking to you today, thank you for having me" Dani said ending the interview.
"That was great D, I really think that'll help clear up some of the air after that article last week" Ashley said with a smile.
"She's right D you did great, you kept everything simple without giving away too much detail" Devon said.
"Okay good. I really didn't want to talk about Santana at all but I know it needed to be done, plus it really helps that she was okay with talking about it" Dani said smiling, and the smile only getting larger when she received a text from said Latina.
"Heard the interview, you were amazing, people are swooning over it all over the hospital already" –Santana.
Smiling Dani texted her back "Thank you, I'm glad you were able to hear it. What time is your lunch?"-Dani
"I could probably sneak away in an hour or so"-Santana
"Wanna have lunch together. I can sneak in the back and meet you in the cafeteria?"-Dani
"I would love to have lunch with you rockstar. How about we have a private lunch in my office? ;)"-Santana
" A private lunch sounds even better. I can pick something up on my way. What sounds good to you?"-Dani
"Right now anything I'm starving, surprise me rockstar. I gotta finish my rounds I'll see you in an hour"-Santana
Smiling Dani leaned back against the couch setting her phone beside her.
"Was that sexy doctor? Actually don't answer that I know it was sexy doctor because of that cheesy grin you have on your face" Devon said with a smirk.
"She has a name you know" Dani said rolling her eyes at her best friend.
Devon just shrugged "Yeah I know but it's so much funnier calling her sexy doctor, it makes her uncomfortable and it irritates you. So I'll stick with the sexy doctor nickname".
"You're awful Devon" Ashley said shaking her head. "Well I'm going to head back to the office, and try to get some work done. You need a ride to the hospital D?"
"How do you know I'm going to the hospital?" Dani asked surprised.
Ashley just shrugged "I didn't but I took an educated guess".
Smiling Dani stood up from the couch "Can we stop and get some food on the way?"
"Sure but we need to hurry up I have a meeting in an hour and a half" Ashley said.
"That works for me. See you later Dev. You gonna be home for dinner?" Dani asked grabbing her purse.
"Yup no extracurricular activities tonight. Just me and Netflix" Devon said moving to take Dani's spot immediately turning on the large TV.
"Alright, see you later Dev" Dani called out following Ashley out of her apartment.
Line Break
After sneaking in the back entrance where Nurse Kathy met her and then took her up to Santana's office Dani patiently waited for the Latina to finish her rounds by checking her Twitter feed. Which was filled with stuff about her interview, once again there was both positive and negative comments about her relationship Santana, and they were even trending #dantana. But there were tons of comments and encouragements about her and Izzy's recovery. Smiling Dani tweeted out a thank you to all her fans.
"Hey there rockstar?" Santana said stepping into her office, closing the door behind her.
Smiling Dani looked up from her phone "Hey".
"What are you looking at?" Santana asked moving to sit on the arm of Dani's chair.
"Just checking Twitter, were trending right now" Dani said showing her all the #dantana posts that people were using.
Laughing Santana shook her head "Even after the explanation and tutorial you gave me I still don't understand Twitter".
"For someone who has a doctorates degree in medicine you really don't understand social media very well, it's quite amusing actually. And a boost to my ego, there's finally something you don't understand that I do" Dani teased.
"Haha" Santana said bending over to kiss Dani's cheek before standing up and grabbing the bag of food Dani had set on top of her desk "Thank you for bringing food, I'm starving right now".
"You're welcome, I hope you like Thai food, it sounded really good when Ash and I drove past" Dani said watching as Santana pulled everything out and handed Dani her own food.
"I love Thai food, I'll pretty much eat anything actually" Santana said sitting down in the chair next to Dani.
"That's good to know" Dani said taking a bit of her food "How has your day been so far?'
"So far so good, got a couple of new patients, and was able to send a couple home. It's been a good day so far. It also helps that this amazing musician said that I make her smile and happy" Santana said grinning at the younger woman.
Blushing Dani made herself keep eye contact with the older woman "It's true you make me happy and smile when I'm with you. You make me feel a lot of other things as well".
"You make me smile and happy to Dani, as well some other things" Santana said leaning across the two chairs to lightly kiss the younger woman.
"Go on a date with me?" Dani asked when Santana pulled away.
"Yes" Santana said smiling.
"Really?" Dani asked surprised.
Laughing Santana once again kissed the younger woman "Yes really I'll go on a date with you".
"When's your next day off?" Dani asked a million thoughts already running through her head about where they should go.
"I have Thursday off" Santana said smiling.
"Okay, Thursday night then. I'm going to take you on a proper date. No more movies at my apartment. It's time you got a proper date Doctor Lopez" Dani said smiling.
"I like movies at your apartment, but I'm not going to say no to a date with a beautiful woman" Santana replied, both woman falling into a comfortable silence as they ate their lunch, one thinking about the best restaurant to take Santana to, while the other thought about different ways to ask the other woman to make things official between them.
