I don't let go of Jack for a while. I started crying because I realized something. Jack was there for me when I found out that nobody else was. I know that might sound crazy, but it's true.
I don't want to let go of him. I squeeze him one last time then release from the hug.
"Why are you still crying" he smiles and lets out a little laugh.
I shrug as I wipe the tears from my eyes. I don't want to tell him how I feel. He might get freaked out
"I should probably leave." I sigh and look around for an exit. I wasn't really paying attention when we came in.
"Why? You're not bothering anybody. Just ignore what the kangaroo said.
"Kangaroo? I thought he was a bunny." I say in a genuine confused tone.
"Never mind" he smiles. "Where do you want to do?"
"I'm not really sure." I say as I wipe the remaining tears. "I just thought I was in the way."
"I have an idea of where we could go." He smirks as me. Suddenly, he picks me up and I squeal... It scared me.
He fly's us out of the workshop and into the cold arctic.
I wonder how he doesn't get cold. Well, at least he doesn't seem cold.
"So yea create ice and snow?" I ask curiously.
"Yep..." He looks at me. A smirk slowly creeps upon his face. "Let me show you something."
He slowly descends beneath the clouds. Below us is the Arctic Ocean. "It's an ocean" I say, unimpressed.
"Yeah, but watch this." He makes his way to the surface of the water. Then he pulls out his staff and taps the ocean. The water around begins to freeze. "Whoa."
He places me down on the island of ice. I can feel the cool ice through my shoes. He steps on the ice and makes this way to the middle of the island that he created. Once he reaches the middle, he gently taps the ice with the tip of his staff and smiles at me. I watch as frost begins to spread it across the ice and create beautiful patterns.
The frost looks like tiny crystals in the moonlight. I've never seen anything more fascinating. All I can do is shoot people in the butts with arrows.
"This is beautiful." I look up at jack and give him a small smile.
If walk over to him, stumbling a little and put my hand on his shoulder.
"That's not all." He says. He picks me up and he fly's a few feet into the air. "Look down." He tells me. I look down from where we are and see something truly amazing.
On the ice, written in frost, is my name.
"H... How did you," I stutter. I don't bother finishing the sentence.
"I've always been able to do that." He says.
I give one last glance to my name and smile.
He made me feel a lot better. I guess that's one of his special talents, because he keeps helping me out of my bad moods.
"If we had ice skates, we could ice skate right now." I chuckle to myself.
"Who says oh need ice skates?" He smirks at me and I frown with confusion.
"Wait, what?" Before I could say anything else, I'm thrown through the air and land on my butt.
"OW!" I yell. "You said you wouldn't drop me anymore!" I put my hands on my hips and rub the sides of my butt. It really hurt when he dropped me.
I try and get up, but he quickly grabs my ankles and pulls my feet out from under me. I fall back and land squarely on my butt again. "Cut it out!" I try and act angry, but I can't help but laugh. He then pulls off my shoes off without giving me a warning.
"HEY! MY SHOES!" I try and get up, but the ice is too slippery under my bare feet.
He quickly slides to the other side of the ice and laughs. "Come and get em' " he waves the shoes over his head, taunting me.
"Stop messing around." I tell him, frustrated.
"Stop messing around? You don't know me at all." He jokes.
"Come on! Just give me my shoes back." I plead at him. I finally get up and stand on the ice without falling. I try to walk, but lose my balance and fall on my face. "Ow..." I groan and rub my nose with my hand.
"Let me help you." He sets my shoes down on the ice and walks to my, but I put my hand out to stop him. "No, I'm fine. I don't need help," I sigh and stand up.
After a while of trying to make my way towards him, I finally reach him.
I'm exhausted from trying to stand on the ice that I have to take a second to wipe the sweat off my forehead.
"H...how do you do this?" I suck in a large amount of air, and then slowly exhale.
He looks at me and laughs, shaking his head.
"What? What are you laughing at?" I question him.
"Nothing, it's nothing." He continues to chuckle under his breath and me.
"You think my exhaustion is funny?" I put my hands on my hips, trying to act serious. I can't help but smile at him.
"It's just, the whole time you were making your way over here, you never notice that I put your shoes over there." He points to the other side of the ice.
I turn around to see my shoes sitting on the other side of the ice.
"Aw man!" I say with disappointment. "Why you gotta' be so mean." I tease at him.
He takes my hand and turns around. "Hop on my back." He says.
"Fine." I sigh and hop on his back, wrapping my arms around his neck.
He slides across the ice and makes his way to the other side of the ice.
I start to laugh as we slide around the ice.
"Ok here." He's bends down and I climb off his back and pick off my shoes. I put them back on my feet and turn to him.
"How come you don't wear shoes?" I ask curiously?
He looks at me and shrugs. "I've never really had to use them." He looks down and wiggles his toes, chuckling to himself.
I nod, signaling that I understand.
"How do you always stay in such a good mood?" I ask.
I've noticed that he's never really upset. He's probably been sad before, but it doesn't seem like it.
"It in my blood." He laughs.
"Can we get to the mainland now?" I ask. "Being in the middle of the Arctic Ocean is starting to freak me out." I rub my hands up and down my arms, trying to generate heat.
"Sure." He says. Before he could get ready, I just in his arms, catching him off guard. "Whoa," he stumbles back a little and laughs.
"I could get use to this." I say teasingly as I stretch out in his arms.
"Haha, very funny." He says in a sarcastic tone.
I wanna try and get on his nerves. Just to get back at him for taking my shoes. I'm not sure how I could annoy him though. I could tickle him. But, that would be kinda weird. Tickling Jack Frost... No thank you.
I think for a while as we fly through the clouds. I stare at him while, unaware that I am doing so.
"What are you looking at?" He turns his head and looks at me. I close my eyes and shrug with exaggeration. "Nothing. I'm just thinking."
I look up at the sky and see something.
It's the northern lights.
I read a book from a library once that had information about the northern lights. It was pretty fascinating. All I remember from the book was that the lights look like swirly rainbows in the sky and that they occur in the North Pole.
"Whoa..." I tap on Jack's shoulder and he looks at me.
"What's wrong?"
"Look behind us." I smile at him, and then continue to gawk at the northern lights behind us.
He turns around completely and his eyes widen at what he sees.
"I know right, it's beautiful." I say in response to his reaction.
"I think north is trying to signal me to come back." Jack says.
I let out a small sigh "ok, let's go back then."
"Nah. He can wait. It's probably not important anyway."
I look at him and raise an eyebrow. "Yeah. Don't worry about it."
"If you say so." I sigh and lay my head on his shoulder.
I start to fall asleep in his arms. But, I snap myself awake.
"You can fall asleep if you want." He tells me.
I've been trying, but it's so cold. Seriously, how can he handle this weather?
"Do you ever get cold?" I ask.
"No. I don't really know how the cold feels." He says to me. It's kind of sad in a way. Sure, it not fun being freezing cold
"Lucky..." I snicker and smirk at him
"Are you cold?" He asks. I look at him, thinking about what he said.
"Oh... Uhh yeah, a little." It doesn't bother me that I'm cold. After a while, I get used to it.
Suddenly, jack holds me closer b
"If you say so." I say quietly under my breath.
He then turns back around and fly's in the direction of burgess. At least I think that's where he's taking me.
I nuzzle my head into his sweat shirt and wrap my arms around his neck. His skin is ice cold.
Slowly run my fingertips up the back of his neck and I begin to feel goosebumps. He doesn't say anything, so I decide to keep doing it until he notices. I slowly run my hand down his neck and under his hoodie. I feel goose bumps form on his back and a shiver go down his spine.
"Stop that." He says, without glancing down at me.
It's getting on his nerves. So I keep doing it.
I move my hand deeper down his shirt and rub circles on his back with my fingertips.
His eyes widen and he opens his mouth little, like he's about to say something, but nothing comes out. His reaction is priceless.
I start to laugh at him and his cheeks turn red.
"Did I embarrass you?" I ask in a motherly tone, but I'm half laughing at him.
He doesn't say anything for a while. But, when he finally does, all he says is, "Get you hand out of my hoodie."
I could tell he was trying not to laugh.
I sigh in response and move my hand out of his shirt. I still tickle the back of his neck though.
Feeling exhausted, I slowly began to drift off, but snap awake.
"You can sleep if you want." He says. He must have known I was drifting off.
I yawn and nuzzle my head into his neck. I wonder is Jack sleeps.
"Do you sleep?" I ask
"Sometimes." He shrugs.
I decide to try and start a conversation.
"Do you ever get tired?" I ask with curiosity.
"Yeah." He simply says.
I sigh again and think of more stuff to ask.
"Do you ever get cold?" I ask. I think I already know the answer, but he keeps avoiding my questions.
"No…" he says with no emotion in his face.
"Are you mad at me?" I can't help but feel like he's mad.
"No…" he says again.
"What's with the short answers?" I'm starting to get frustrated, but I don't let it show through my voice.
"What's with all the questions?" He looks at me and raises an eyebrow.
"Well, I was just trying to start a conversation…" I say, my tone more angered than before.
We're silent for a while. I decide to give up on starting a conversation and focus on falling asleep, but I can't seem to.
Jack randomly breaks the silence, causing me to snap out of my sleepy state.
"No, I don't get cold." He says silently.
"Oh. Lucky…" I snicker under my breath. He turns to me and raises and eyebrow.
"Are you cold?" He asks.
I nod "Uhm… yeah, a little."
Suddenly, he pulls me closer to me, holding me tighter to his chest. It only makes me colder.
But, I don't question it. All I do is smile.
"Thanks." I mumble to him.
"No problem. It's probably not very helpful though."
I shrug. "I'm pretty comfortable."
"You wanna try and fly?" He randomly asks.
The question makes me a little sad; I like it when he carries me.
"What about my side?" I say nervously.
"Will it make you feel better if I hold your hand?" He smirks at me.
I think for a while, biting my lip concentrating.
What If my hands get sweaty? What if he lets go and I can't fly on my own. I like him holding me and we're too high up in the sky. I should just say yes... No wait, I should say no... Ok I'mma say no.
"Ok sure, I'll try." Crap! I was supposed to say no... At least I get to hold his hand.
"Ok. So, you never told me what happened to you anyway." He said as he slowly let go of me and grabbed my hand. I started to fly. We slowly started to fly through the sky. He guided me through the air.
a sharp pain strikes me in my side.
I don't want him to know that it hurts, so I pretend that I don't feel my side throbbing with pain.
"Yeah I did, I told you I was attacked by sand." I look at him, confused.
"Yes, you told me that, but what I mean is..." He pauses for a second. "I want to know exactly what happened."
I look down for and think for a while. We're still flying through the air and above the clouds. If I do tell him, I'll have to tell him about the journal and he might want to go and get it back.
"Well, it happened after we talked at that kid's house-" he cuts me off
"Jamie's place." He says, quickly correcting my mistake.
"Yeah. Anyway, I fell asleep on an ice pond outside of town."
He gives me a strange look and I laugh.
"I know... Weird right. I just wanted to spend my first birthday where I had my first memory, which was at the meadow with a pond behind it."
He looks at me and nods.
"Right before I fell asleep, I heard something rustling in the trees to my left. Once I woke up, I decided to go see if it was an animal or if it was still there."
I chuckle to myself and sigh. "Nothing was there. I didn't know what to do after that, so I decided to fly back to town. When I was flying over the woods, I saw something down on the ground. I flew down to get a better look at it. It turned out to be an old bed post..."
Suddenly, I feel a pain in my hand that jack was holding. I look down at my hand. He's squeezing it so tight that I'm starting to lose circulation in my hand. I ignore him and keep talking.
"I fell through the bedpost, got attacked by some horses, and left my journal down there." The last part sorta slipped out.
I looked at him and sigh with frustration. "The end." I'm not frustrated at him. It seems like whenever I'm around him, I can't lie to him or not tell him anything. I'm thinking it's because I don't want to lose his trust. The problem with that theory is, why would we not trust me for not telling him that I lost a stupid journal?
"What did you write in that journal?" He asks, almost as if he's interrogating me.
If I tell him that some of the stuff is personal, then he will defiantly try to get the journal. I shouldn't have even kept that thing anyway. I though having something to write in would help time travel fast, but it didn't.
"I used it as a diary, sorta…" I give him a week smile.
"Is there anything personal in it?"
Say no, say no, SAY NO!
"There's some stuff in it that's personal. Yeah"
Seriously… seriously?!
"Pitch probably has it by now." He says to himself as he looks down at the ground. "That's probably why they wanted me to come back."
I scrunch my eyebrows in confusion.
"The north pole could be under attack!" Without warning, he picks me up and turns around.
He starts to fly, at what seems like full speed, towards the North Pole.
