A/N: Thank you to everybody for all the kind reviews. I appreciate all of them. :) I'm sorry it's late, but here is the next chapter.

Chapter Fifteen

Where Is He?!

"Mommy!"

The voice echoed through the dimly lit corridor, seeming to come from every direction at once. Rebecca spun around, eyes searching for her son. There was no sign of a little boy or anyone, for that matter. She called out to him, hoping that he would come toward the sound of her voice. There was a small giggle to her right, and when she turned, she saw a small shadow dart through a doorway a little way down the hall.

"AJ!" Rebecca called as she started walking toward the door. "Mommy's coming! Stay right there!"

There was more laughter as Rebecca approached the room, her heartbeat quickening in anticipation of finding her son. She stepped through the doorway and froze. The room was empty, no furniture, and especially no little boy. The paint was peeling off the bare walls and floor was hard, cold concrete. Her eye caught a small object lying on the floor across the room.

Rebecca walked over to it, hoping that it was clue to finding her son. As she got closer, she realized that it was a toy. To be exact, it was a red race car. A small squeak escaped Rebecca's lips as she came to a sudden stop in front of the toy. She knelt down slowly and reached out toward the race car. But right before her fingertips could touch the car, she heard the giggling again.

"Mommy!"

Rebecca snapped her head around so fast, she heard wind whistle in her ears. Though, there was no one there. The room was still as empty as it had been before she walked in. When she turned back around, the race car was gone too. A hollowness threatened to swallow her up and Rebecca didn't have the strength to stop it.

Rebecca's eyes snapped open, gasping out loud. She sat up, taking deep breaths, trying to calm her racing heart. She ran a hand through her hair, feeling completely hopeless. Her son was missing and the police had no idea who took him. All they knew was that it was a man and he was driving a dark-colored car, though the witness was too far away to see the license plate. Then, there was the fact that Adam wasn't answering her calls.

Looking around, Rebecca was momentarily disoriented, not recognizing her bedroom. Someone stirred beside her, and for a moment she panicked, until she realized it was only Caleb. They were in his trailer. Rebecca remembered not wanting to sleep alone in her apartment without AJ in the next room. Caleb had invited her over and she wasn't in the position to decline.

"What are you doing awake?" Caleb asked as he sat up.

"Bad dream," Rebecca mumbled, pushing her hair behind her ear.

"About AJ?" Caleb asked, though he didn't need to.

Rebecca nodded, unsure of what else to say. She felt like the longer she was without her little boy, the greater the chance that she would never see him again. Rebecca wrapped her arms around herself and shook her head. She couldn't think like that. She had stay strong and positive, for AJ.

"Why didn't Adam answer my calls?" Rebecca asked, though she didn't expect a real answer. "That doesn't mean he took AJ, right? I mean, he wouldn't do that, he wouldn't-" She broke off as she started to cry, tears sliding slowly down her face.

"We're going to find him, okay," Caleb comforted her, pulling her into a hug. Rebecca leaned into him as he continued to soothe her. "He's going to come back to us."

"I hope so," Rebecca murmured, letting out a sigh between sobs.

Caleb held onto her until she cried herself to sleep. Thankfully, there were no more nightmares, but that didn't put Rebecca at ease. In fact, the absence of the dreams was almost worse. An empty feeling that she couldn't seem to fill. The uncertainty of the future that weighed down on Rebecca. So, even though the nightmares were gone, Rebecca still slept fitfully the rest of the night. Her mind never to far away from her son.

~OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO~

"My whittle pony, my whittle pony!"

The two-year-old's voice filled the car as she sang the words to her favorite My Little Pony song. Though her words were barely discernible except for the title sequence, her voice was soft and sweet as she bounced her stuffed Pinkie Pie on her lap. Amy and Ty shared a smile as they listened to their young daughter. Glancing in the rear-view mirror, Ty saw Jackson covering his ears and a sour expression on his face.

"What's the matter, Jack?" Ty asked his son, over Lily's singing. "You don't like you're sister's singing?"

Ty chuckled as Jackson shook his head.

They were on their way to Heartland to see if they could do anything to help Rebecca. Ty was anxious to see his sister, wanting to know how she was holding up with everything. If someone had kidnapped one of the twins, or both, Ty would go out of his mind trying to find them. Rebecca had called him last night and had barely understood what she was trying to tell him. He had wanted to go over right then to be there for her, but Rebecca had told him that she was going to try to get some sleep and there wouldn't be anything for him to do til morning. Ty wasn't sure how much sleep he had gotten last night as he kept worrying over his sister and her son. He imagined that his sister didn't get much sleep either.

"...berry best fend!"

Amy clapped and turned around in her seat to look at her daughter. "Good job," she praised and Lily beamed proudly. Then, the toddler's face changed slightly as she pointed down to the floor.

"Mommy, 'ainbow fall," Lily said.

Amy looked down at the floor behind her seat and, indeed, saw that the small blue pony with a rainbow mane and tail was lying on the floor. "Uh oh," she replied, and twisted around to try to reach the fallen toy. Unfortunately, Rainbow Dash lay just out of Amy's reach. She looked back up at Lily, who was watching her intently. "I'm sorry, I can't reach it. We'll get it when we get out." Amy turned back around, expecting a cry of protest from Lily, but, surprisingly, it didn't come.

"I firsty," came Jackson's voice.

"Me too," Lily chimed in.

Amy looked at Ty. "Ty, did you put the cups in the bag? I left them on the table."

Ty groan slightly and turned slightly to give her an apologetic look. "I'm sorry, Amy, I didn't," he apologized. "I've had so many things running through my mind-"

"Ty, it's ok," Amy stopped him, putting a hand on his arm. When he looked back at her, she added, "I know."

A few minutes later, they were driving up Heartland's long, winding driveway. Both twins chorused their excitement when they realized where they were. They loved visiting Amy's childhood home. Parking in front of the ranch house, Ty saw his sister sitting on the steps of the porch, head in her hands. Seeing his sister broken like this, reminded him of the same version of her two years prior. Both had the same vulnerable look to them, but this present Rebecca had a certain strength in the set of her shoulders that the old Rebecca didn't have. It was then that Ty realized how just how much his sister had changed in those two years. He hoped that this wouldn't turn into some kind of setback for her.

Obviously, Jackson saw Rebecca too, because he asked, "AJ here?"

Amy and Ty shared a look, not wanting Jackson to say that in front of Rebecca and cause her to become more upset. Ty shut off the car engine, unbuckled his seat belt and turned around to face his son. "No, AJ's not here," he told him, in simplest terms. "But he's going to come back real soon, ok?"

Jackson nodded, picking up his toy motorcycle from his lap.

With a look to Amy, Ty got out of the car and opened the back to get Jackson out. Amy met him at the front of the car, holding onto Lily's hand. The little girl was always insisting on walking everywhere by herself. Rebecca looked up when she heard them approach and quickly jumped up, absently brushing nonexistent dirt from her clothes.

"Hey, Rebecca," Amy said softly. "How are you doing?"

"Terrible," Rebecca answered truthfully. Her voice sounded hoarse, like she'd been crying a lot. Ty reached past Amy to give his sister a one-arm hug, since he was holding Jackson in the other.

"It's going to be okay," Ty told her. He pulled back to look at her in the eyes. "We're going to find him."

Rebecca nodded absentmindedly, dabbing at her eyes with a crumpled tissue in her hand. She turned to Jackson. "You just keep getting more and more handsome every time I see you, just like you daddy," she said, managing to give the toddler a small smile. "I wish A-" Rebecca broke off before the sob could come. She didn't have to say it, though, Ty knew what she had been about to say.

"I think I'll take the kids inside now," Amy said suddenly. "It's getting cold and they were asking for a drink in the car." She reached out for Jackson and Ty handed him over with a grateful smile.

As soon as Amy went inside the house with the twins, Rebecca collapsed back down onto the porch steps. Ty saw her take a shuddering breath as he sat down beside her. They sat in silence for about a minute before Rebecca turned to him, her eyes glassy.

"I think Adam took AJ,"

"What makes you say that?" Ty asked, looking over at her.

"Because, he called me right before...right before it happened," Rebecca explained. "The line was conveniently covered in static...It was a distraction. And now, he's not returning any of my calls."

"Have you told the police about this?" Ty asked her.

Rebecca shook her head.

"Becky, the police should know about Adam," Ty said. "If you really think Adam took AJ, then the police can track him before he gets too far away."

"I know, I know," Rebecca replied, ducking her head. "I called the station, but the detective that's on the case wasn't in, so I left a message. They haven't yet cal-" Rebecca broke off when her cell phone started ringing. She pulled her phone out of her coat pocket so fast that she almost dropped it. She stared wide-eyed at the number and then up at her brother. Ty narrowed his gaze at her, wondering what had her so freaked out.

"It's Adam,"

Rebecca didn't waste another second, she stood up and answered the phone. "Adam, thank you for finally calling me back," she said breathlessly into the phone. "I was so worried..."

"What no hello?" Adam's voice was low and husky on the other end of the phone.

"Adam, I need you to listen to me," Rebecca said, ignoring his last statement. "It's an emergency. AJ is missing and I need to ask you a ques-"

"We miss you, Becky," Adam replied, there was a note to his voice that was unfamiliar to Rebecca. "We're waiting for you."

"What are you talking about?" Rebecca asked, feeling panic rise up within her. "Adam, is AJ there with you? Did you take him from me?"

"We're waiting," was all Adam said.

"No, Adam, wait, don't hang up!" Rebecca exclaimed. "Where is he?!" But it was too late, the line went dead and Adam was gone.

A/N: I'm sorry that it was so short, I'll try to make the next chapter longer. Now, it might be a little bit longer before I post the next chapter, because I am writing a Thanksgiving fic. That should be up by Thursday or Friday. After that, then I'll get back to writing this story. Until then, please review! :)
