Chapter 8
Bruce looked out the window and saw the bat signal, "Looks like the need Batman." He said and headed to the Batcave. I hurried after him, "Bruce, please be safe!" I yelled. He turned and nodded. He disappeared into his cave and I went back inside. "Miss Shawl, can I get something for you?" Alfred asked. I felt a gushing feeling coming out. "My water broke." I gasped as pain surged through me. Alfred helped me get to the car and drove me to the hospital. "What's the emergency?" The desk clerk asked. "She's going to have a baby."
She nodded and called for a gurney. A group of men arrived and safely put me on it. "It'll be alright, Miss Shawl, take deep breaths." One instructed. I took his advice as they put me in the emergency room. Dr. Macintosh came in, "I don't understand, you're not due until tomorrow." He said. He shrugged and prepared the tools, "I need you to push." He said. I pushed, while pain came through. "Push more." He said. I pushed a little more; more pain came, 'Please just one more.' I thought. "One more ought to do it." He said. I pushed one last time and I heard a baby crying. "Okay, the twin's almost out, one more tiny push." He said. I pushed as I heard another baby cry.
"Two baby girls, two very beautiful baby girls." Dr. Macintosh said. I panted and lay my head down. 'Too bad Bruce couldn't be here.' I thought. "There's someone here to see you." He announced. I opened my eyes to see Jonathan Crane. "Our daughters are so beautiful, like you." He said. Dr. Macintosh shook his head, "We're going to take these two to be bathed and et cetera." He said and left the room. Jonathan kissed my forehead, "I missed you." He said. I didn't reply, my mind was busy wondering how he got here.
"I know I'm not allowed near those two, but I'm allowed to see them, right?" He asked. I nodded, "How did you get here?" I asked. "I walked, Bane and Riddler has Batman occupied for him to be here." He said. He turned on the TV, it showed Bane and Riddler beating up Bruce. "Look like he's losing." Jonathan laughed. "Batman! How does it feel not being with Meghan when she needs you most?" Bane sneered. 'They must've known that I was about to give birth.' I thought. Batman yelled and kicked Bane, but he grabbed his leg and threw him to Riddler, who smacked him with is cane. "The only way you can beat us, is if you use the Titan formula again. I know you still have some."
Batman looked away, showing that he was right. 'He lied to me.' I thought. "I'm guessing Batman lied to you about not having any Titan." Jonathan assumed. I nodded, "Yeah, but I can see why he did. But I'm mad at him." I said. He nodded and put his arm around me. "That doesn't mean that I don't love him anymore, I still do." I said and he took his arm off me. "Love has blinded you. You think Batman really loves you? He's playing you like he did with Ra's daughter." He said. "No, he's not." I objected. He shook his head.
He got up and headed to the door, "I would've given you the world, anything you ever wanted." He said. "You already have given me what I wanted, Jonathan." I said. He turned and looked at me, "The twins; I do remember you telling me how badly you wanted kids." He recalled. I nodded, "Thank you for that." I said. He nodded, "I shouldn't have raped you, or even harmed you with fear toxin. Batman is the right one for you, he did the thing I couldn't do, make you happy." He said, a tear dropped from his eye. I got up and walked up to him. "All I wanted was to make you happy." He whispered and kissed me.
He stopped and caressed me, "You're so wonderful, in every way possible; and I hope he keeps making you happy." He said and kissed my forehead and left. I went back to lay down, the TV showed a Bane-sized Batman beating up Bane. "I'm not there to stop him from killing Bane." I said to myself, got dressed into my clothes and hurried out the door. "Miss, you shouldn't leave! Dr. Macintosh is almost done with your twins." The desk clerk said. "I'll be back soon." I said and ran out the hospital door. I ran to where I saw Bruce, and Bane, fighting.
"Batman, stop!" I called out. He turned and looked at me. "I'm guessing Jonathan did what he wanted to do then?" Bane asked. I nodded, "You two can leave now." I said, looking at both Bane and the Riddler. They nodded and left. Batman lowered himself to meet my gaze, "What did Crane want?" He asked. 'No apology for lying to me?' I thought. "He just talked to me, and showed that you lied to me." I replied. He picked me up with his hand, "I'm sorry. I knew you would be terrified if you'd have known that I still had some. I saw the way you looked at me the first time, you were scared."
He walked away, heading to the hospital. "I'm also sorry about not being there for your birth." He said. "Its okay, all you need to do is stay with me for the rest of the night." I said. He nodded and quickly got the antidote in. He changed back to normal and carried me to my room. "That was quite the ruckus back there, Batman." The desk clerk said. He nodded as he opened the door, where Dr. Macintosh and the other nurses were scattered about. He turned and saw me, "Oh thank heavens! Where on Earth did you go?" He asked. "To save me from myself." Batman said. He nodded, "I saw the news, you're lucky Meghan got there on time."
Bruce nodded, "I don't know what I'd do without her, honestly."" He said. Elena came in, "Meghan, your twins are adorable! I can't wait to see what you're going to name them." She said. "Sharon, go get the twins please." Dr. Macintosh said. She nodded and exited the room. "You can name them however you want, it doesn't have to be our mother's names." He whispered. I nodded as Sharon came back in with my babies. She handed me one that I named Gwyneth. "That's a lovely name, what's her middle?" She asked. "Elaine."
She nodded, "I'm going to go ahead and put her last name as Wayne, is that alright?" She asked. I nodded as she wrote I down. Then, she handed me the next one, "Rosalyn." I said. "Another lovely one, the middle?" She asked. "Anne." I replied. She nodded and wrote that down too.
"Alright, we'll be able to get these two ready to go by tomorrow." She said and left. "You picked beautiful names, Meghan." Bruce complimented. I smiled, "Thank you." I said and lay back down on the bed. "Did Jonathan hurt you in any way?" Bruce asked. I shook my head, "No, all he did was talk." I said. "Good." He said and lay down with me. Elena came in, "Meghan, there's a man named Alfred, he says you know him." She said. I nodded, "That's Bruce's butler." I said. "Oh, okay." She said and gestured him to come in.
"Good evening, Miss Shawl, and Batman." He greeted. We both nodded, "Shouldn't Bruce be here with you, Meghan?" Elena asked. I nodded, "Yeah, he should. But he said he'll take care of them, but he won't be there to see them. He's still pretty angry at Jonathan." I said. She nodded, "That makes sense."
She looked at Batman, "Shouldn't be too surprising to see Batman here, though. I'dve thought Bruce would be mad at him too, since he hangs out with you a lot. I even saw you two kissing." She said. "No need to worry about that, Bruce got on to me for that." He told her. Elena nodded, "As he should, but anyways; I'm so happy for you Meghan! Engaged to Bruce Wayne." She squealed. I laughed, "Yeah, pretty amazing. " I said. "Well, I need to get back to work, bye." She said. I waved good-bye and put my head down to get some rest.
