Fell For Her Song

Chapter 4: The Aftermath

That night, after the ball. Fionna and Flame Prince left together, and Finn and Flame Princess kissed good-bye. Jake and Lady Rainicorn said good-bye to their new comrades, Cake the Cat and Lord Monochromicorn. Bubblegum and Marshall Lee laughed together in a corner. Marshall didn't plan on leaving any time soon. Eventually when the last of the guests left, they realized Marceline and Gumball were missing.

"I bet there in a room together, if you catch my drift," Marshall Lee said wiggling his eyebrows. Bubblegum gagged.

"No, no. Marceline would not stoop so low as to do... that.. with someone like Gumball," Bubblegum reassured, hoping she was right.

"And Gumball's to prissy to do that with anyone anyway," Marshall laughed. Bubblegum looked at Marshall and he looked back at her in panic. They rushed to different directions, Bubblegum headed to all of the guest rooms, and Marshall headed to Gumball's bedroom.

Bubblegum sighed as she saw Marceline on top of the dresser. Sleeping in mid-air, and a blanket hanging from her body. The tape recorder was still on and Bubblegum went to turn it off. She pushed Marceline so that she was laying over her bed instead of the dresser. Marshall found their room and looked inside.

"Your sister is sleeping, stop worrying," Bubblegum said, punching Marshall on the shoulder playfully.

"But Gumball's not in his room, sleeping," Marshall informed Bubblegum. Her playful demeanor melted away as she began to panic. She ran out of the room and called for the Banana Guards.

"Search for the prince! He has gone missing!" Bubblegum screamed as she ran down the halls.

Awaking from the commotion, Marceline fell onto the bed and sat up, rubbing her eyes. She saw Marshall Lee sitting at the end of her bed.

"Hey," he greeted.

"Sup," Marceline said back.

"Do you know where Gumball is?"

"The last I saw him he was in the Palace Garden. Why? Can't find him?" Marceline asked.

"Yeah. Now Bubblegum is freaking out. Where exactly was he?" Marshall replied. Marceline groaned as she rolled off her bed and fell on the ground. Floating along the floor she got up to open the doors to the balcony. From there you can see Gumball laying on the bench next to the wall. The moon shining on his smiling face. His eyes were closed. One arm supporting the back of his head on the bench and his other hand was holding a rose to his heart. They snickered at each other and Gumball's eyes opened. He smiled and waved with the rose in his hand. He got up and walked into the castle. They both rolled their eyes and left the room, going downstairs. Marshall flew into the room Gumball would come in when he entered the castle, but Marceline stayed at the ceiling, not wanting to come and greet Gumball. She didn't know what she was thinking. She was about to flee but Gumball and Marshall were already coming into the hallway of where she floated in. She morphed into a bat and hid in any shadow she could find. Gumball, who was laughing down the hall went ahead of Marshall stayed behind to look back at Marceline that hid in the shadows. He gave her a confused look, but she just shook her head and flew the other way, trying to find a way back into her room. She didn't know why she came along.

Completely lost now, she morphed back into her pleasant form in her tank top and sweats, and only her socks, and floated down the halls. She looked at the pictures in the tall hallway. They were all portraits of either Gumball, Bubblegum, their family, or Marshall and Gumball together. There was a door at the end of the hallway, unguarded. She went in.

She opened the doors and found a huge room on the other side. It was a bedroom. White carpet, marble walls, and a white and gray bed in the center with a blue pillow. She looked around wondering who would have this great room. The doors shut behind her and she was in darkness, though she could see fine. She looked in the closet and gasped. She was in Gumball's room. She realized now that this was his distinct smell, and his clothes all smelled like him, too. She saw the party clothes he had been wearing earlier and his shoes on the floor of the closet. She closed the door to the closet and backed away. She heard Banana Guards greet someone as they approached. She heard Gumball's voice greet them back and every step closer he took to the door. She looked around, looking for someplace to hide.

There was a small space between the wall and his dresser. She shrank into a bat and squeezed in. Just in time, Gumball arrived and turned on the lights. After the double doors had closed behind him, he sighed and chuckled. Marceline peaked through a crack between the mirror and the drawer part of the dresser. Gumball walked over to the dresser, and Marceline's heart sped up. Gumball took off his crown and set it on a pillow before putting a glass dome over it.

Gumball turned around and started walking towards his bed, kicking his shoes off. Marceline thought he was going to go to sleep, and she could sneak out the window, but instead, Gumball took off his hoodie and revealed himself in only a white, tight, tank top. Marceline could see his toned muscles and let out a squeak before she quickly covered her mouth with her wings.

Fortunately, Gumball didn't hear a thing. So, he took off his pants and revealed just a pair gray boxers. Marceline wanted to squeak again, but held it in. She blushed and felt herself sweating underneath her fur. Gumball balled up the clothes and chucked it towards the closet, where it hit the door and fell to the ground. Gumball walked away into another room, which Marceline assumed was the bathroom, and shut the door. Marceline took this as her chance to leave.

She flew as fast she could to the window. She unlocked it and tried to pull it up as a small bat, but she was too weak this way. She was about to change so she was bigger, but the bathroom door was opening again. Marceline hid in the curtains. Gumball walked out with a toothbrush in his mouth and put the clothes that were by his closet down a laundry chute. Marceline blushed at seeing him half naked again. Then he went back into the bathroom but kept the door open, the mirror facing the bed. Marceline wanted to grunt in frustration. If she tried to escape now, she would be seen.

After Gumball washed his face and turned off all of the lights, only the moonlight shown in through the windows. He took off his white tank top that he was wearing before he crawled under his gray covers, and closed his eyes. Twenty minutes passed and Marceline could now hear Gumball's breathing even out as he fell asleep. Finally!

Marceline smiled and thanked Glob in relief. She started flapping her wings but the claws of her feet were stuck to the curtains, she squeaked a curse and flapped harder, trying to release her claws from the blue silk. Finally, she realized she could just turn into her usual self. She rolled her eyes at herself and turned into her usual form. Floating to prevent a sound she lifted the window up as quietly as she could, but it make a scraping noise as it slid up, and latched loudly as it reached the top. Marceline cringed, but when she heard Gumball's continuous breathing, she accidentally sighed loudly.

"Marceline?"

Marceline froze. At first she thought Gumball was talking in his sleep, but then thought otherwise when she felt a smooth hand grab her wrist.

"What are you doing here?" He whispered groggy.

"This is a dream, Gumball," Marceline said soothingly and flirtatious. Gumball smiled as Marceline knelt down next to his bed, "Go back to sleep, and you'll awake to a good breakfast! Whatever you'd like!" Marceline tried her hardest to keep him calm so he wouldn't feel too awake and start making sense of things. She smiled at him, hoping he'd just go back to sleep.

"No," Marceline cringed, "What I want, instead of breakfast, is for you to stay!" Gumball yanked on Marceline's wrist until she fell onto the bed next to him. Marceline froze and grew rigid as she felt Gumball's arms wrap around her.

"Marceline," Gumball whispered, nestling his nose into her raven hair.

"Um... Yes?"

"I like this dream..."

"...Oh..."

"Is something wrong?"

Marceline, getting used to the warmth of Gumball's body, was relaxing. She wanted to change her mind on leaving this room now. But, not wanting to embarrass herself in the morning and start a commotion, she had to lie.

"Yes, something's wrong."

"What's that, darling?" Gumball was laughing sleepily into Marceline's long hair. Marceline sat up and leaned over Gumball, being inches away from him.

"I... I... can't sleep in the same bed as some one else... I... I feel too uncomfortable when I do," Marceline said. She knew it was a poor excuse but, in dreams things didn't make much sense.

"Then... we don't have too sleep! We can stay up!" Gumball sat up when Marceline did and she flew to the still-open window.

"No, silly! I'm tired. It's been a long travel here from Ooo. Plus... we have that ball tomorrow night! I don't want to fall asleep during it!" Marceline knew that the ball had already happened.

"Oh, right..." Gumball said. Marceline smiled preciously at Gumball. He really believed that he was dreaming! Marceline was about to slip out of the window, but was stopped by Gumball once again grabbing her wrist. Dang this boy has a thing for wrists...

Marceline widened her eyes as she was spun around and pressed against the wall. Her lips were smashed with Gumball's. She watched him as he kissed her, not closing her eyes. She was stunned. He has some pretty bold dreams...

When Gumball was done, he saw that Marceline had her eyes open the whole time. She hadn't felt anything but warmth and her back against the wall. She was too startled by the sudden movement to make sense of anything; or kiss him back. He sighed sadly.

"You didn't like that did you?" Gumball asked guiltily.

"It was... Don't worry, I did. But we can't do this now! I hear Banana Guards outside your doors! Go to bed! Go to bed!" Gumball smiled and pecked Marceline again before jumping under the covers and pretending to fall asleep.

Marceline, as quiet as can be, unlatched the window at the top, and slid the door shut. She saw the window lock by itself from the inside and she flew away. Hopefully Gumball really did think that the whole thing was just a crazy dream.

As Marceline was flying away, she heard Gumball's bedroom door creak open and Peppermint Maid sigh. She flew in through the balcony doors and found Bubblegum sleeping in her bed. Except something was wrong.

Marshall Lee was sleeping in her bed. Marceline's own brother was sleeping in her bed! She clenched her fists and... did nothing. She wouldn't be sleeping anyway. She pulled a hair out of her face and tucked it behind her ear. She smiled and slid down to the floor against the wall of the balcony. She sat outside, smiling; thinking about 'Gumball's dream'.

Then something occurred to her. Why was Marshall in her and Bubblegum's room? And why was he sleeping in Marceline's bed? Marceline thought she might know the answer. She's not the only one with a crush around here...

When Gumball awoke the next morning, he sat up quickly and gasped. He looked around his room, forgetting why he was feeling panicked. Then he remembered his dream...

He sighed and smiled, thinking about Marceline. He rubbed his gummy hands against his pink face, chuckling. He couldn't believe after one day, the Queen of Vampires was already getting to him. He didn't blame himself. She was a sight for sore eyes.

His dream felt so life-like. He looked at his window. Locked like it always is. He looked at his bed. Still completely neat, nothing messed up. No signs of another body on it. He looked over to the wall that he thought he pushed Marceline against. No evidence of anything happening there. Not a footprint on the ground, no finger prints on the dusty window sill, no wrinkles in the bed. He sighed again, wishing it actually happened. He threw off the covers and got dressed for the day. He didn't want to look too dressed up in front of Marceline because today he wanted to really get to know her. So as to do that, he thought that she would be more comfortable around what Marshall Lee would usually where. Again. As he had done last night.

So, putting on the rock shirt that he didn't know he had, that wasn't pink, and blue jeans. Wearing his pink hoodie again, he put his crown on and some expensive sneakers that was very much wanted throughout the Candy Kingdom and walked to the kitchen to make everyone a good breakfast, just like Marceline in his dream had said.

When he was finished cooking, he ordered three banana guards to go to all of the guest's rooms and wake them up to get ready for breakfast.

Bubblegum awoke to a rapping on her door.

"Who is it?" She called politely, but groggy towards the door. She heard a groan and rustle of sheets on Marceline's bed and smiled, remembering what happened last night. Her and Marshall were up late talking about their lives. He had kissed her, several times... A lot of several times. She looked at him with a dreamy look as she awaited the answer to her question she had just called to whomever was on the other side of the bedroom door.

"This is a Banana Guard sent to you from Prince Gumball to inform you that breakfast will be served in fifteen minutes."

"Thank you, kind guard!"

"You're welcome."

Suddenly, Bubblegum realized that Marceline was nowhere in the room. She checked the balcony. No one. Pulling on the first decent clothes she could find, Bubblegum changed her clothes quickly and smoothed out her hair. Leaving her crown behind, she fled her room and began to search the castle for her best friend.

Gumball stretched as he walked out of the bathroom. He had cleaned up a bit because there was flour, sweat, and a bit of drool on his face and clothes. He walked into his little den that was close to the kitchen. This was his own private quarters that wasn't so far away as his bedroom.

There was just a couch, bookshelves, and a tv. Just his own little 'alone room'. Gumball picked out a book from the bookshelf and was about to sit on his comfy couch when he gasped and dropped his book. There, sleeping on his couch, was Marceline Abadeer. He blinked, his dream of the night before rushing to him. He blushed, thinking about kissing her in real life. He shook his head and cleared his mind of such thoughts. He knelt down in front of her sleepy face.

She did look exhausted. He didn't want to wake her. He brushed a few hairs out of her face and smiled. Calmly he chuckled to himself for thinking that 'the sign' she gave him last night meant that she felt the same way he did her. What had she sang in her song?

Knowing you'll sweep me off my feet... I pushed away your charm... Avoiding all of your heat... From reaching my dark heart...

I'm becoming this... This mushy mess of a girl... Melting in your arms, you prince... Thinking that I was the oyster and you were the pearl.

Gumball smacked himself mentally. What other sign could she be telling him? Is it possible that Marceline liked him back? His heart sped up at the thought and made him smile. He couldn't control it. Eventually, he ripped himself from her and brought in another comfy chair for him to read in.

Fifteen minutes later, Gumball heard the timer go off in the kitchen. He shut his book and put it back on the shelf. He hadn't read much, thinking, looking, fantasizing, about Marceline. He needed to get to his masseuse later, he was developing a headache with all of this... Marceline-ness.

Gumball quietly walked over to the couch and stood behind it so that she was facing away from him in her sleep. He slowly and uncertainly reached down and shook her shoulder gently. She awoke with a start and sat up quickly. She looked around before sniffing the air. She stood up and spun around, she pounced onto Gumball and pinned him onto the floor. She narrowed her eyes at him, and he shook in fear. Gumball couldn't stop looking at her fangs that she exposed as she hissed at him, inches from his face.

"You... You woke me up too early!" Marceline growled into Gumball's ear. He continued to be hysterical under Marceline's tiny body.

"Sorry! It's just- It's time to eat! Eat breakfast?" Gumball shrieked.

"Oh. Food. Alright, let's go." Marceline floated out of Gumball's personal room and to the direction of the kitchen. It took a minute or two for Gumball to calm down and slow down his heart rate. He gulped, wiping the sweat off his brow as he got up and followed Marceline's direction. He was the last one to enter.

Marceline was sitting in his spot.

"Excuse me, Marceline. You are sitting where I usually sit."

"So?" Marceline ignored the prince next to her.

"Please, I put you next to me... next to Bubblegum and Marshall Lee. If that's what you'd prefer. But just don't sit there.," Gumball was losing patience.

"No, I want to sit here. It has a cushion on the butt!" Marceline played cheerfully.

"You can't sit there, Marceline!" Gumball almost yelled. He was becoming frustrated at Marceline's calm exterior while she was disobeying him.

"Too bad." Marshall Lee snickered before laughing. Bubblegum soon began trying to hide her loud laughing behind her hand. Gumball's eyes narrowed at the care-free vampire in his seat. He slipped his arms under her knees and her back and carried her bridal style to the seat where he wanted her to sit in originally. She screamed the whole way. He dropped her in the chair and she plopped down. He marched back to his seat at the end of the table grumpily.

"Lighten up, Gumball. Let's just have breakfast," Bubblegum tried to comfort couldn't stop smiling from the ridiculous scene that had just occurred. Gumball sighed and peaked at Marceline. She was hiding behind her hair. He expected her to keep insisting to sit in his chair, but now she was just hiding.

When the food finally arrived and put on the table so everyone could pick what they wanted to eat, Marceline and Marshall Lee flew over the food to get to the good stuff that was far away from them. They only picked up jelly donuts, and red fruits. Stashing on their plates, Marshall Lee returned to his seat by Bubblegum, but Marceline left with her plate.

"Where are you going, Marceline?" Finn cried after his friend.

"I'm going to eat somewhere else. That's it," Marceline said coldly. Finn, looking worried after Marceline, looked at everyone around him with a concerned face and sighed. "Well... that's Marceline. Mystery, I guess." And Finn continued to dig in.

"Yeah... mystery.." Gumball repeated. He grabbed an apple and ran off after her.

"No! Gumball come back! Just leave her be!" Bubblegum cried after Gumball, but he ignored her.

Gumball found Marceline slowly flying towards the staircase.

"Marceline!" Gumball cried, trying to stop her. Marceline jumped and looked over her shoulder before zipping away with the plate of jelly donuts and red fruits. "No! Stop! I just want to talk!"

Gumball chased after her. He heard Marceline's door slam open and then her balcony doors rattle as she burst through them. He chased her to the balcony and looked around but couldn't find her. He realized that it was day time... Marceline can't be outside now. She's still in the castle! Gumball turned around with renewed hope only to see the bedroom door close on him and lock from the outside. He reached into his pocket to see where his keys were but they weren't there. He widened his eyes, realizing he was trapped.

Oh! That's okay! There was a vine growing on the wall of this side of the castle! Gumball could just climb down it and get to freedom! He turned the balcony doors to see that they were also shut tight and the curtains become drawn by Marceline herself. When Marceline turned around Gumball saw the keys in her fanged mouth.

He grunted in disbelief. "Marceline! Give me my keys!"

"Oh, I thought you wanted to talk! Here you go!...Get out," Marceline ended angrily after she tossed the keys onto the floor in front of Gumball.

"No... Marceline. I do. Here," Gumball said regretfully. He did want to talk to Marceline. He just wanted to get closer to her. She caught his attention the second he saw her and he wanted to know why.

Gumball bent over to pick up the keys and give them to Marceline, but when he touched the keys with his fingertips, he was pushed to the ground by a kick to his butt and then pinned to the ground by tiny arms and skinny legs. Marceline hissed into his ear.

"Leave. Me. Alone! Don't you understand that? I left for a reason!" Marceline continued to warn and threaten him to leave her alone when Gumball interrupted.

"What do you have against me? What did I do wrong?" Gumball felt gross. He was beginning to drool with his face pressed against the guest room's wooden floor. He felt Marceline tense above him and not become as heavy and he rolled over as fast as he could so that he was straddling her and he pinned her arms over her head. Marceline met him with an annoyed look on her face- like she really didn't want to be there.

Marceline mumbled her response to his question.

"What?" Gumball practically yelled, getting angry. He usually wasn't this tense and irritated, but Marceline used up his patience... and he was still attracted. He thought himself silly.

"Nothing!" Marceline yelled in his face.

"No! Tell me! I want to fix it!"

"I did just tell you, you Dip-Thong! You did absolutely nothing wrong! You are just so... so... fucking. Perfect." Marceline gave Gumball a fake smile then rolling her eyes and looking any place but his face.

Marceline looked up and saw Gumball's hands gripping her wrist tightly. Marceline looked down and saw Gumball's waist touching her's and him straddling her. Then she looked back up to his face that was only inches away. She thought about kissing him again. He looked so frustrated which of made her laugh if she wasn't so lost in the situation. And Marceline blushed.

Gumball realized what Marceline was looking around at and wanted to blush, too, but he was strong enough to focus on the task at hand.

"Tell me!" Gumball remembered his dream every time he looked at Marceline. He remembered cradling her in his arms and kissing her. She even told him she liked the kiss. He even remembered the smell of her hair in the dream. It was just like the one in real life. But Gumball always tried to push away his thoughts before he would become to dazed.

"I just did! Aren't you listening..." Marceline looked away as her voice cracked nervously. She was never this... weak she realized. She grunted and started to thrash around until she became tired.

"Stop struggling! Why do you think I'm so 'perfect'? Huh? 'Cause I'm not!"

"Yes, you are! Get off! Get off! Get off! Getoff getoff getoff getoff getoff getoff getoff getoff getoff getoff!" Marceline repeated quickly. She grew into her giant bat form before shrinking again. This pushed Gumball right off of her and he hit the ceiling - which was thirty feet in the air - before hitting the ground again. He curled into a ball and groaned as he fell on his stomach. He held his tummy gently as he felt the pain grow into something bigger. He groaned again as he heard Marceline swallow.

"Now... You know. Now... Get out," Marceline stood over him. Afraid of her voice cracking again, Marceline spoke slowly and without many words.

"...Help..." Gumball whispered in pain. Though Marceline hadn't squished him on the ceiling or anything, she just transformed quickly. Pushing him off of her so fast that he hit the ceiling with his back and landed back on the ground on his stomach and knees. And the ceiling was fairly high.

"Fine." Marceline pulled Gumball up and put his arm around her. When Marceline unlocked the door and opened it, she pushed Gumball into the hall, not helping him any further, and shut the door on him. She stood with her back to the door as she stared at the dark room. Feeling guilty for stranding someone while they were hurt. She shook her head and growled. She had no reason to be guilty...

Gumball rolled onto his back after Marceline pushed him onto the floor. He got to his feet and winced. He had to hunch over when he walked and stumbled down the hall.

"Prince!" Finn cried in shock. "What happened?"

"Fell... Help. Me." And Gumball fell over. He heard Finn crying for help before he blacked
