The next day all the bridesmaids were going to the city for their final dress fitting. It also gave the women some quality time with the bride. Ever since Lauren told Karma that Amy was with Kate her ability to convince herself she was okay became more difficult. Karma knew that deep down she had no right to be jealous because she was marrying Liam, but it wasn't because she wanted to. She had to. On their way to the city Karma's mind drifted off.
Karma was in Amy's apartment waiting for her to come home from her shift at the hospital. Amy was at the stage where she would spend more time at the hospital than at the actual college.
"Karms I'm home." Amy announced as she opened the door.
Karma met her at the door and gave her a quick peck on the lips. "Hey, how was your shift?"
"Draining." She sighed. "Let me take a quick shower and we'll go." They had agreed they would go out for dinner.
While Amy was in the shower Karma heard Amy's phone alerting there was a new message. Karma picked up the phone it was a text from Kate. As much as Karma knew Amy would never look at another girl other than her it still bothered her because Karma could sense that Kate was interested in Amy. They've gone out a couple of times with Amy's college friends and Karma would always catch Kate eyeing Amy. That would only cause Karma to up her PDA a bit. "What could Kate possibly text Amy about?" Karma thought. She wanted to open the message, but she decided to wait until Amy was back from the bathroom.
About 15 minutes later Amy walked into her bedroom with a towel wrapped around her waist, she already had her bra on. Karma was lying on the bed waiting for her to finish getting dressed.
"Kate sent you a message." Karma said coldly. She wasn't too happy about it and she wanted to let Amy know.
"Did you see what it says?" Amy asked noticing Karma's tone. Karma shook her head. "Open it. Read it out loud." Amy said. She didn't have anything to hide from her girlfriend.
Karma unlocked Amy's phone and revealed the text.
Kate: Today we were in such a rush that I forgot to thank you for last night. The food was great.
PS: next time you have to let me pay. ;)
As soon as Karma finished reading the text a rush of jealousy ran through her body.
"What happened yesterday?" Karma asked trying her best to control her urges.
Amy turned around to look at Karma. "Nothing. Her car broke down and she asked me if I could give her a lift. We stopped by and grabbed lunch before dropping her off." Amy said coolly.
"So you practically had a lunch date." Karma stated letting Amy know she wasn't too happy about this.
"Karma it wasn't like that." Amy said.
"Ok." Karma spoke. "So tell me how or when is it okay for a person who has a girlfriend to take another girl out." Karma said sarcastically.
"I already told you it wasn't a date." Amy restated.
"Does Kate know that?" Karma questioned.
"Of course she does." Amy affirmed. "Were just friends Karma."
Karma scoffed. "For now." She couldn't help but to act territorial Amy was hers.
Amy sat on the bed next to Karma. Karma began to stand up but Amy didn't let her. "What's that supposed to mean?"
"That it is simply a matter of time before something happens." Karma was in full jealousy mode right now.
"Where's all this coming from?" Amy asked. In her eyes she'd done nothing wrong. Sure Amy kinda picked up that Kate had a little crush on her but she'd never picture her life with someone other than Karma.
"No place." Karma spatted. "I'm just stating facts."
"Wrong ones it appears." Amy backfired. "This is about something else."
"Its not." Karma said a little too quickly.
"Karma I can tell when you're lying." Amy looked straight into Karma's eyes.
"I don't want to talk about it." Karma lowered her eyes. She hated when she couldn't get away with a white lie.
"And when has that stopped me before." Amy smiled. "Karms talk to me." She persisted.
"Its stupid." Karma rolled her eyes.
"Try me." Amy tried to convince her.
Karma let out a sigh. She knew Amy wasn't going to stop until Karma caved in. "A friend of mine has a long distance relationship like ours. Last week he went to surprise his girlfriend. When he got to her place he found his girlfriend in bed with another guy. And it-"
"And it got you thinking that'll be us in a future." Amy interrupted Karma. She had connected all the dots.
"I don't know Amy." Karma kept her head lowered. "What if you find out Kate and you have more things in common." She said in a low tone. Amy formed a smile because she knew what was this all about. "You're making fun of me aren't you?"
"No, I swear it's not that." The blonde rapidly replied. "I just love your little insecurities. They provide me the opportunity to tell you or to better yet remind you that you are all I need. That no matter how many chances I have with other people," Amy inched closer and cupped Karma's cheeks."It'll always be you." Karma couldn't help but melt completely after hearing those words. Amy leaned in to kiss her. "I. Love. You." Amy said in between kisses. Karma adored when she would do this.
Karma reciprocated every kiss. "I love you more."
Amy shifted to stand up and she extended her hand. "Let's go, I'm starving." Karma took her girlfriend's hand and walked out.
"Karma come on were here." Lauren nudged the auburn haired knocking her out of her trance.
They arrived at the store and the manager was already waiting for them. Before they moved on to the bridesmaids they started with Emma.
"Go with the young lady, I'll be right outside." Lauren spoke to her daughter. The seamstress took Emma's hand and led her to one of the changing rooms. Minutes later she came out.
"Mama." Emma babbled.
All the bridesmaids melted when they saw how adorable the little girl looked in her dress. "Wow you look like a princess honey." Lauren said. She took out her cellphone and immediately took a picture of her daughter. "Can you hold her?" Lauren said to Karma.
"Of course." Karma replied. She picked up the little girl and made a funny face that caused Emma to laugh. Lauren snapped a picture of both of them.
While Lauren was waiting for Emma to return from changing she opened a text to her sister.
Amy was at finishing up a lecture about the correct procedure to follow when you get an emergency case in a hospital. All of the students were paying close attention to what she was saying. Most of them were surprised that Amy Raudenfeld was in there with them. She was well known within the medicine branch. They were amazed how unpresuming she was. Usually when doctors such as Amy and Kate would offer seminars they were egotistical.
Amy's phone vibrated when she looked at it she saw she had a text from Lauren. Amy proceeded to open the text.
Lauren: Look at your niece. (2 attachments)
Amy's face contained a warm smile. The first picture she opened she saw Emma in her flower girl dress. She looked insanely adorable. Amy scrolled to next picture it was Karma holding Emma in her arms, both of them were smiling, but not awkwardly smiling, no they had a genuine grin on their faces. Amy felt a vacant space in the pit of her stomach. It had been a long time since she last saw Karma flash a smile that joyful. Her immediate thought was that she was happy because her wedding day was approaching. What Amy didn't know was that Emma had been the first person to cause Karma to smile without having to pretend.
