On one sunny day at a Pokémon Nursery, the man running the place sat behind the counter while one of his partners, a Sneasel wearing a sapphire headband, was putting on a backpack on.
The man had hair a bit messy and about the same color as the headband his Pokémon wore and wore the usual Pokémon Breeder style of clothes. His green eyes scanned over a couple papers and the desktop on the counter used to keep tabs on which trainer left what with him, though it wasn't particularly busy at the moment. He then noticed the Sneasel and chuckled.
"Good idea Razor," he said nodding, "The berry supply is a bit low, but so is the pantry in general. Just don't forget to have some of the flyers with you just in case."
Razor nodded patting the bag a bit.
He chuckled again patting its head. "Always a step ahead, that's my buddy!"
Just as the Sneasel opened the door, a Lass was standing there. She looked around a bit before stepping in soon after.
"Hello there!" he greeted setting the papers to the side, "What brings you by Miss?"
"I heard from a friend's parents that there was a Pokémon Nursery here," she started walking over to the counter, "This doesn't really look like one." She then waved a hand some with an embarrassed look. "Not meaning to be mean!"
"It's quite alright. I know it doesn't, not yet anyway. I'm waiting for the construction workers to get here so it can get more fleshed out," he explained waving the comment off, "Were you thinking of leaving a little friend here? Long as we have what's needed for it, we take the best care of them. To the point they're like family!"
She nodded some with a laugh in relief. "In a way." She clasped her hands behind her back looking a bit bashful. "I have a date, and much as I hate it, we decided to have it be only us."
"Ah, that sounds quite nice. So," He then brought out a paper and set it on the countertop. "Just need you to fill this little bit out. Just your name and the nickname, if you gave it one, and species of your pal. If there's any other thing we should know, like any behavorial issues or things it shouldn't be around due to allergies or trauma, be sure to add that in the extra section." He then held out a hand after she was done. "Name's Azure by the way. Just a nickname that stuck."
She shook it some before handing over a poké ball. "She shouldn't be too much trouble past being too curious at times. Long as she stays entertained, she should be a little angel."
He pit a hand to his chin in thought. "Sounds like one like a Cleffa or Igglybuff, they tend to be super curious, if they aren't little scardy cats, but my other partner usually helps them get used to us." He then gestured to a Medicham just exiting from the back, who nodded to the Lass. After a moment, she noticed one of it eyes had a scar over it.
"Looks a bit mean with...that, no offense to it."
"Yeah, but she's a sweetheart. She loves the little ones like she was their mother. A gentle soul really."
She nodded looking back to him. "What about that one that left when I walked in?"
"That was Razor. He's been with me since as long as I can remember, he's like a bother to me. Don't let the usual face his species has, he can be silly and as caring as Melinda here."
"Is either of them actually your's? Like with a poké ball?"
He nodded. "Razor is. He was like my started if we go by trainer logic. Melinda, however, is technically still wild. She chose to help me out. There's one more, but that one is basically the nightwatch when we're asleep. A gentle soul too, unless you're a threat, then the claws come out. So to speak."
The Lass tilted her head a bit. "What do you mean?"
"She's quite protective." He seemed to think for a moment. "Actually, now that I remember it, she could be here right now since she can disguise herself."
As if on cue, what seemed to be a Whooper became a shadow for a moment before a Zoroark stood there. She waved with a smile before heading to the back.
"Ah yeah. That was her. Haven't figured what to call her yet, but she's the security. Don't worry, she won't harm your little one." He looked at the time. "Oh, you should probably get going. Don't you have a date?" He chuckled as she snapped out of her shock.
"Oh, right! It was nice to meet you, take care of Iggy for me. I'll be back soon as I can." With that she made her way out.
"No need to rush, Iggy will be just fine!" He turned to the Medicham. "Maybe we'll get a good reputation starting with her."
The Medicham nodded smiling.
Meanwhile, Razor was out in a small forest gathering various berries and other foragable things. He poked around a few bushes until he heard a faint noise. It sounded like sobbing, but he wasn't sure. He slowly made his way towards the source. Soon enough, the sobbing was getting louder. Upon a log sat a small Togepi. It was alone and trying to fight the tears. He stood in front of it and sat down enough to look it in the eyes.
"Hey," he started gently putting a paw on its head, "What's the matter?"
The Togepi looked at him briefly just sniffling before looking at the ground again.
"Am I scaring you? That why you don't wanna talk? I can go get Melinda, she should be able to calm you down."
"I-It's not you..." it finally spoke through tears, "Though you do look kinda scary."
"That's just how my face is." He smiled a bit trying to soften his face. "Can't help how my face is structured." He then sat by it putting a paw on its head again. "I just want to help, okay? I promise you I won't do anything to hurt you."
It then tried to explain. "I'm just...scared since..." The tears were coming back full force again.
"Ah, no, you don't have to talk about it right now. Just calm down first." He then gently picked it up and cradled it. "Just shake or nod your head, okay?"
It nodded some.
"Someone hurt you?"
Another nod.
"Were you attacked?"
A shake this time.
'Hmm, not physical pain. Melinda would definately be better for this.' "Did you get left behind?"
A reluctant nod.
"Oh you poor thing. I have another question, but it's one you probably can't answer."
"I-I think I know what it is, and no, I don't know if it was intentional or not..."
Razor blinked for a moment in surprise. "Well, I can bring you to the nursery I work at. You'll at least be safe until we know for sure which it is."
It nodded finally calming down. "I'd like to be safe."
He smiled some. "It's a deal then. My buddy and boss runs the place. He will happily take you in."
The Togepi laughed a bit. "He sounds nice."
"He is, until you get on his bad side." Razor then gave a playful tone. "Then he might make you go to bed without dessert or make you have a tickle punishment."
The Togepi laughed more. "Nooooo!"
"There we go. All better." He then sat it on his shoulders against the backpack. "Be sure to hold on, it's gonna be a bit of a trek."
"Okay!"
Once they got back, Azure was sitting on the floor in the play area building with blocks with an Igglybuff. He clapped when it put the last block on and looked happy. Melinda was sitting with them just watching. After a moment, Razor walked over and sat the new friend down. The three looked at it before the Togepi ran over to the Igglybuff wanting to play too.
"You find someone who wanted to drop it off?" the man asked leaning to him some.
Razor shook his head and quitely explained.
"Ah... How unfortunate." He then stood up and took a quick picture of the Togepi. "I'll go post about it in case its trainer is worried, at best they will. At worst, it'll have to get a new trainer."
Razor nodded before he walked off. He then turned back to the duo and couldn't help but smile. Melinda smiled too with a nod. The Sneasel then headed off to the pantry to put what he collected away.
A few hours later, the sun began to set. The Lass returned looking really happy. She began to just gush about how well the date went and that she might get asked out for a second. Azure listened holding Iggy who was fast asleep. He was asked how well her pokémon behaved, to which it went as well as she thought. Once the transaction was over, he waved as she left again saying she may come back again.
However, everyone turned their attention to the remaining normal/fairy type still asleep. They looked among one another with unsure faces. What if it was truely abandoned? Who would even do that? Razor hoped it was an accident while Melinda had a bad feeling it really wasn't. Azure looked over the screen, but saw no one has said anything yet. Well, only thing to do for now is wait a bit longer. It was getting late, so Melinda gently set the Togepi in the Zoroark's arms while they headed off to bed. She stood there for a moment with a smile before setting the Togepi in the playroom to sleep for now. She then headed outside to do her nightwatch.
