Edward, Anne, and Alphonse were once again on the train headed for the Eastern Command Center. They had just recently made a stop at the mining town of Youswell. They had discovered, after getting kicked out of the inn because they were State Alchemists, the citizens of the poor town were being overtaxed by their military overseer as well as being paid too little.
In the end, the siblings overthrew the overseer, First Lieutenant Yoki, by tricking the greedy man in to giving them the deed of the town and mines which they then sold to the Head Miner Halling for the price of a stay in his family's inn.
As the train rode on, both Edward and Anne gradually started to become sleepier and started to nod off, but being the stubborn people they are, they refused to let their eyes close. Alphonse noticed this.
"Nii-san, Nee-san," he said, "you two should take a nap. You haven't slept much lately and we still have an hour and half to get to East City."
"What? No, no, I'm fine," Edward said.
"I'm not tired Al, stop worrying," Anne said.
Right on cue, both alchemists yawned, and Anne leaned forward in her seat. Alphonse quickly grabbed her, and as soon as Anne had unoccupied the seat, Edward leaned over to his side and fell asleep on the entire train seat. Soft snores were heard as the two blondes fell asleep.
Alphonse sighed. "Silly Nii-san. Where's Nee-san supposed to sleep now?"
With another sigh, he carefully moved Anne around until she rested bridal style in his arms making sure that her head didn't hit any of his many spikes. He glanced outside, noticing the many grassy hills under the afternoon sun. Hopefully they can get to East City without any problems.
The door to the Elrics' carriage was suddenly kicked open. Three big men with rifles, crying, "Get your hands in the air!" stormed in and took aim at the innocent passengers. Everyone raised their hands quickly, some with fear in their eyes- everyone except Edward and Anne. They remained sound asleep, Edward splattered all over the seat and Anne curled up like a cat in Al's arms. Al didn't wake them, in fear it caused the armed men to start firing.
A strong-jawed member of the team noticed the sleeping blondes' and the armored man's lack of response and went over to them.
"You can sleep pretty well at a time like this, kids," he said, then prodded Edward with end of his gun. "Wake up!"
His demand was answered by Edward mumbling something and Anne shifting at the loud noise.
"I said wake up!" the man cried, hitting Anne this time. "You flat-chested shrimp!"
That woke both of the Elrics up. Edward never missed an insult at his height or his sister's chest, even when he was asleep. Silently fuming, they both stood, and giving the man no time to react, Edward quickly clamped his hands on the barrel of the gun. The man's eyes widened when blue lightning flashed from the boy's hands- and the barrel of the gun changed into a crude trumpet.
"What the?!" the man screamed looking at the gun turned trumpet. "Why you little-," Edward slammed his left foot into the face of the rebel. He gave a cry of pain before falling to the floor.
Alphonse face-palmed in annoyance and sighed.
Before the golden-eyed alchemist could continue his assault, one of the rebels moved in and raised his gun to his head. "You got spunk kid. We're told not to give any mercy to anyone that resists us. I don't feel right about shooting a shrimp like you, but…"
"Now, now calm down you two." The youngest Elric calmly said, lifting the man's hand and pointing the gun to the ceiling of the cabin. "There's no need for- NEE-SAN!"
The girl had leaped up, kneeing the rebel on the side of the head, crashing him into the other teammate who had been pointing his gun towards the passengers.
"WHO THE HELL IS THE FLEA-SIZED SHRIMP?!"
"WHO ARE YOU CALLING A SHRIMP WITH SMALL BREASTS THAT SHE COULD BE MISTAKING FOR A BOY?!"
Edward and Anne screamed respectively as they beat the life out of all three rebels. The other passengers watched, some in horror and some in amusement, not daring to move in fear of being next.
Eventually the youngest Elric intervened when blood started to drip unto the floor, "Nii-san, Nee-san, they'll die if you do anymore of that."
The twin alchemists paused and looked up towards their little brother. With confusion written over their faces, Edward asked, "Any way who are these guys?"
The youngest Elric had to sweat-drop at the older Elrics' subconscious reactions to the words shrimp and flat-chested.
They dropped the men, but not before tying them up with alchemized ropes. Anne scratched her head and let out a sigh, "Man, I'm still tired. Are there anymore of you idiots on the train?"
"Other than us three," said the only conscious rebel, "there are two in the engine room, four holding the General in the First Class car, and four of us are guarding the hostages spread throughout the passenger cars."
"Annnd? Edward asked as he happily tightened his fist in front of the rebel, promising pain.
"Really, that's it! Really!" he cried in fear.
"There are still 10 of them?!" a frightened female passenger said.
"When they find out what happened to their friends, aren't they going to retaliate?" a man questioned.
Other passengers started muttering among themselves.
The armored Elric sighed yet again. "If a certain somebodies had acted calmly, this would probably have ended peacefully, right Nii-san? Nee-san?"
"We can't move on if we live in the past little brother!" the older Elric announced as they removed their cherry-red coats and proceeded to open a window.
"It can't be helped Al," Anne chided in a mothering tone, "We'll let Edward handle things up on top, so he can quickly get to the engine room. We'll handle the men down here and free the passengers, okay?"
"Fine, Nee-san." The younger Elric quickly relented.
"J-just who are you people?" a man decided to ask the siblings.
Edward was on the sill before turning back towards the group of passengers.
"Alchemists," he smirked as Alphonse helped him unto the roof of the train.
Anne watched and turned towards her younger brother. "Okay Al, just like I said. We need to go free the passengers while Ed is heading towards the engine room. Let's go." They walked towards the door when a man with a rifle quickly opened the door. He gave a cry at the huge armored man and raised his weapon.
The terrorist of course fired.
"W-wait. Watch out for the rico-."
The man howled in pain as one of the bullets managed to hit his knee.
"Chet. Too late." The young Elric said.
"Hey, what's-?" said as another man appeared after hearing the gunshots. Seeing his partner and the armored boy, he aimed- and received a kick to his head by the blonde girl he hadn't noticed at his side.
As she watched the two men withering in pain, she couldn't help but think, 'Are these guys idiots?'
The younger Elrics continued on to the next cabin, where they quickly dealt with the armed men in a similar fashion to the previous two. They immediately stopped though, as a familiar voice was heard throughout the train.
"Testing! Testing!" a young boy's voice boomed through the comically alchemized loud-speaker. "Attention all criminals! My siblings and I have recaptured the engine room and the rear cars. All that is left is the first class car. Please release the hostages and surrender yourselves."
"It seems Ed has accomplished his mission Al, so now we have to go to the First Class. Come on!" Anne shouted as she ran towards the door.
"R-right!"
"Failure to do so, and we will have to remove you by force."
The Leader, or who Anne thought was the leader, answered the loudspeaker. "Fuck off! I don't know who you are, but as long as we have hostages, we can't lose!"
"Oh dear me. Still full of that fighting spirit? Too bad, negotiations have failed."
Anne could see the alchemic energy as it crackled through the opaque window as she and Alphonse stood in front of the door. She heard someone mutter as the energy died down. "A water pipe?"
"Hostages, please take shelter!"
Anne heard the roaring of water as it shot out of the pipe. The youngest Elric opened the door they were standing in front of, causing all the water and men, excluding the supposed Leader, who had somehow managed to grab something to hold unto, to come cascading unto the floor right in front of Anne.
"A little g-girl?"
"Welcome," Anne said as she cracked her knuckles and an evil look to cross her face, promising huge amounts of pain, as the word little registered across her mind. All male eyes widened. Anne began to beat them senseless, ignoring, but secretly enjoying, the wails and screams of pain coming from full-grown men.
"This can't be happening!" the leader shouted to no one, since Anne was still beating his men around. "Not yet! I still have my hostages!"
Anne looked up to see her brother had jumped from the ceiling right in front of the leader, who had his back facing her. She dropped the unconscious men and silently signaled Al to stay where he was.
She noticed the automail he had attached to his left arm. "Oh another automail user?" Edward said as he too spotted the arm and transmuted his into his signature blade.
"Y-you little punk!" the leader cried as he began firing at her brother who just dodged by back flipping. The oldest Elric quickly ran at the eye-patched man- and stabbed his blade straight through the gun part of the arm.
"What's this? You're using some cheap goods if it broke so easily." Ed twisted his arm and it completely detached and fell uselessly on the floor. Anne quickly ran as well and jumped and slammed her now-clenched left automail hand on the man's face. He dropped to the ground unconscious.
"Nice one Anne," Her brother praised.
They quickly tied up all the men along with the leader and waited until they reached their destination.
The train had finally arrived at East City Station, with everyone safe and sound. The train was quickly surrounded by the black wearing military police and quickly arrested the terrorists.
Colonel Roy Mustang, with his black trench coat draped over his shoulder, along with 1st Lieutenant Riza Hawkeye, walked through the arrested men to greet the Elric Siblings.
"Hi Fullmetal, Blind Miracle," he greeted the two alchemists cheerfully.
"Hey Mustang, and Hawkeye! How's it going?" Anne answered happily as the officers stopped in front of them.
Ed just looked at him in anger.
"What's with the unhappy look?"
"Ed's just mad you're here Colonel, as always," Anne sighed as she shook his and Hawkeye's hands.
"As cold as usual," he sighed, "Why can't you be more like you're siblings here Fullmetal," he said as dropped Anne's hand and glanced towards Al as he politely bowed in greeting to his Lieutenant, who politely greeted back.
Edward turned around muttering curses at his younger siblings. Anne sweat-dropped.
Mustang ignored the fuming alchemist and turned towards Anne and noticed the still hazy-looking golden eyes of the female alchemist. "I see you still haven't restored you're bodies."
"You're lead was a fluke. It was a fake," Anne said clenching her fists at her side, "We searched books and the like, but we didn't find anything either. We're planning on searching through East City now but we haven't found a good way of doing things."
"I've heard rumors. It seems you've done a bit here and there," he said as they started walking towards the exit of the station.
"You got sharp ears as usual Colonel."
"It's only because you make a big show of it."
Anne laughed loudly. "I guess you're right!"
They stopped when they heard a slashing noise behind them and they all quickly turned around.
Standing there was the leader who had escaped with a hidden knife in his arm and slashed at the Military Police officers. Anne sighed. "I thought my fist would have knocked you out longer, but it seems that's not the case."
Hawkeye quickly loaded and aimed her gun at the crazed maniac in front of them. "Colonel, please stay ba-," the colonel placed an arm in front of her.
"I'll be fine," he said with a smile, before showing the back of his glove and the transmutation circle stitched upon it, "Step back, Lieutenant."
As the rebel leader closed in on the Colonel, he calmly raised his right gloved hand and snapped. Flames shot out from his transmutation circle and exploded near the leader, who screamed in pain. Everyone except Mustang, Hawkeye, and Anne had to shield their eyes from the intensity of the flames. The leader fell and was quickly pinned down by two MPs.
The colonel walked up to the man. "I went easy on you. If you resist again, I won't hesitate to turn you into a pile of ashes, got it?"
"Fucker…Just who the hell are you?"
"Colonel Roy Mustang, the Flame Alchemist. Please remember that."
"Oh wow!" one of the MPs exclaimed.
"Oh, is this the first time you've seen colonel use that?" Havoc asked as he drew a fresh cigarette from his coat pocket.
"Yes, 2nd Lieutenant Havoc!" A man saluted.
"Just how is he able to do that?"
"See those gloves the Colonel's wearing? Well those gloves are made from 'spark cloth'. Flick against it hard enough and a spark will ignite. Then adjust the oxygen concentration in the atmosphere around something flammable and…," he snapped open his lighter and flicked the button on his lighter, producing a spark, which ignited a small flame, "Poof."
"I understand the basic idea, but how…"
"He can do that because he's a State Alchemist. Oh, and the little girl next to the Colonel and the little guy sulking near the huge metal suit of armor are State Alchemists as well."
"WHAT?! Then the two who took out all those criminals was…."
They watched as the Colonel walked away, motioning for the Elrics and His Lieutenant to follow him.
"I can't believe it…that just isn't human."
"You know you owe one now, right Colonel?" Edward said as he sat in the Colonel's office in Eastern Command, along with Anne, who was sleeping on the couch, and Alphonse, while Colonel was sitting behind his desk.
"There's something disturbing about being in your debt, Fullmetal," Mustang said, "But I'll cave in. What you do you want?"
"That's our Colonel, he sure is quick. Can you show us to a library or introduce us to an alchemist that has detailed info about biological transmutation around here?"
"Right now? Good grief man. You just got here. Shouldn't you be worrying about a certain someone?" he said as his gaze landed on the exhausted blind girl behind them on the couch.
"We want to restore ourselves ASAP!"
Mustang stood, and as to not wake up the sleeping girl, silently walked over to the shelf of books and files and pulled out a small file. "It has been a while since we last met. Let's chat over a cup of tea."
"And what would be fun about drinking tea with a guy?! I'm not old!"
He ignored the comment on his age and quickly opened the file. "Hm, maybe…. Yes, this is it."
Taking out the correct document from the file, Mustang returned to his desk, and read out loud, "…'Artificial synthesis at the cost of two or more organisms of different genetic backgrounds…' In short there's a researcher of chimera transmutation living within the city. Shou Tucker, the Sewing-Life Alchemist."
"He was a man who had successfully transmuted a talking chimera and obtained a license to be a State Alchemist." Roy explained to the Elrics, and the now conscious Anne, as the four of them sat in a car that was taking them to Sewing-Life Alchemist's home.
"A talking chimera…" Anne muttered.
"You mean it can talk like humans!?" Edward screeched.
"That seems to be the case. I wasn't in charge at the time, so I didn't see the real thing. I heard that it could learn what people would say and speak. However, it only said one thing: "I want to die.""
The older Elrics' eyes widened in shock at the revelation.
"Afterwards, it wouldn't eat anything and died." Mustang finished as they arrived at the gate of the house.
As they got out of the house, the twins had stopped and gasped in awe. It was not a small, humble street house- but a large, grand house, which could pass off as a small mansion, and had many windows. Mustang merely walked up to the door and rang a bell near the door.
Suddenly, there was a shadow over the Fullmetal Alchemist. Thinking it was his brother he turned around, but screamed as a large, white thing landed on top of him, pinning him to the ground. Anne burst out in laughter. Edward's response to his sister's laughter was a pathetic moan.
"Hey! Alexander stop that!" a very young voice scolded, "Wow, Lots of guests, daddy!"
Standing at the door was a young girl and a man, the girl on her tippy-toes to hold on to the handle. The man sighed.
"Nina, I thought I told you to tie up the dog," He chided gently, "Please do come in."
The man, a smile on his face, had neat light brown hair, blue eyes and round glasses. He was dressed in a dark navy t-shirt with the long sleeves rolled up to his elbows, along with white slacks and brown shoes. The young girl, identified as Nina, had waist-length brown pulled up into two braided pigtails, big bright blue eyes and a few freckles near her nose. She was wearing a red shirt with a sailor-like collar, white shorts, and white socks with brown shoes.
The man led the group into his house, with Nina and Alexander following his every step.
After kindly telling the girl to play outside in the yard with the dog, the five alchemists all settled down near a table and had tea. The siblings noticed the scattered boxes and book around the room with dust covering s few things. Utensils were piled in the kitchen and the room they were now in.
Tucker followed their gaze and gave a humorless laugh, "Forgive me for the mess. This house lacks a woman's touch since my wife left me some time ago."
Anne gave a small smile, "It's of no concern. I know the feeling since I have to pick up after this guy," she said patting Edward's shoulder, "it's a pretty hard job."
"Hey!"
The group let out a small laugh at the two bickering siblings.
"Well, I'm Shou Tucker, the Sewing-Life Alchemist. What can I do for you all?" Tucker asked the group.
"These two," Mustang gesturing towards Ed and Anne, "are interested in biological transmutation and said they would very much like to examine your research."
"I don't mind at all. But if you want a person to lay down their cards, shouldn't you also lay down yours? That is what alchemists do, correct? Why are you interested in biological transmutation?"
"Ah, they-,"
"Colonel," Anne said raising a hand to silence her superior officer, "Mr. Tucker does have a point."
They reached down and unzipped their black jackets, removed it and placed it over the back of their chairs which held their red coats (AN: You all know that I said that they have the same coat? Well Anne is much shorter than Ed's, coming down to just above her stomach [like the jackets in Attack on Titan] with a hood and the symbol on the back). They were left in their loose black tank tops, which showed their respective automail arm (AN: Once again, Ed has thick straps over the shoulders and Anne has spaghetti straps).
"My god," he gasped, "So this is what the Fullmetal Alchemist and the Blind Miracle Alchemist have to show. But if I may ask, how did you receive the term 'Blind Miracle' as your title? I understand your brother's, but yours intrigues me."
"I am blind Mr. Tucker," Anne answered with a small smile.
"B-but you moved around the room like any other person would!"
"That is where the 'Miracle' part comes in. I cannot see the physical dimensions of this room, but I can see you because of your life force. In my vision you are colored in a blue 'aura' so to speak. I cannot see how you look like but I know that you are there," she explained. [1]
"T-that's a… well that's a miracle!"
She smiled. "Now you got it. I thought myself how to 'feel' a room so I don't hit anything. But as I said, I can only see living things, not inanimate objects. And for some reason, I become truly blind once I am underground. I can't see any living thing."
"Yes, well," Edward kindly interrupted, "Allow me to explain how we got in this situation in the first place…."
"I see. Your mother…It must have been awful," the Sewing-Life Alchemist said after Edward had finished.
"Because our superiors have been told that they have lost their arms during the East Civil War and Anne's blindness during an illness, I am asking you to not mention about the Human transmutation incident," Mustang said.
"Yes, that is fine with me," Tucker said, "I know it would be pointless for the military as well to let go of this kind of talent. In that case….." The man stood. "I'm not sure if this will be helpful, but let's take a look at my lab, shall we?"
They followed the man around his home until they reached a room in the cellar. Tucker unlocked the door with a key contained in his pocket and allowing the group behind him to enter inside.
All four gasped. Inside, were many creatures-chimeras- locked in cages. Some were monstrous, others grotesque, some even deformed, but most had black or grey fur, sharp teeth and glowing red eyes. They hissed, roared, or howled behind their cages. Even more terrifying were the countless numbers of organs suspended in jars with colorful liquids. The siblings were slightly disturbed.
"This is quite embarrassing," Tucker said scratching his head, "I'm told I'm the authority of chimeras by quite a few people, but to be honest," he continued as he closed and locked the door, "I can't really say I'm all that great."
He then led them to another room, this one more welcoming than the previous one. A room full to the brim with large shelves of books.
"Wow…," the siblings said in unison.
"This is my file room. Feel free to take a look as much as you want. I'll be in the lab," he said with a smile.
"Righto," Edward said, "I'll start from these shelves. Annie you help Al ok?"
The blind girl nodded, "Right."
"Come on, Nee-san. We'll handle these books the shelves over here."
Anne knew what they were trying to do. Since she couldn't read she usually helped Al with making connections because he had a harder time than her or Ed. "Hold on Al, let me talk to the Colonel first okay?"
She walked towards where she knew the man was standing, while walking by a shelf she would have hit had she not felt it there.
"What are you planning on doing now Colonel?" she asked the uniformed man.
"I'm going back to work. Someone will be sent to pick you up in the evening," he answered swiftly.
"OK," she glanced towards her brothers who paid no attention to their conversation. "You know, sometimes I feel so useless, Colonel Mustang."
"Why's that?"
"I can't read along with my brothers as they research. I can't write because I can't see what I'm putting on the paper. Alphonse has to read out loud to me so I can be of some use."
He watched as the young girl seemed to be near tears. He raised his arm and ruffled her hair. "Listen to me Anne. You are not useless. You help you're brothers by being a ray of sunshine when they are in their darkest times. You get rid of that hopelessness they sometimes have when they feel as if they think they can't restore your bodies. You are their support. Don't forget that."
She blinked away her tears and nodded, being lifted by the Colonel's kind words. "Thank you, Colonel. You know, I wish Ed could see this side of you more often, but he's hell bent on making you look like a bad person."
"I know, Anne. That why I tease him and not you and Alphonse."
Mustang removed his hand and walked outside. Anne stood there contemplating the Colonel's words.
"Nee-san, are you done talking to Colonel?" she heard her brother ask.
"Yeah. Let's go Al! Let's see if we can find anything useful OK?"
The armored boy nodded as they both started on a shelf.
Much, much later, in the middle of his 23rd book, Edward noticed the time on the clock as it chimed.
"Oh crap," he exclaimed, seeing as the clock now read 5 o' clock. "I've been reading for too long."
He stood and noticed his brother and sister where nowhere to be seen. Scratch that, his brother was nowhere to be seen. He came upon Anne sleeping near a pile of books, leaning her back on a shelf.
"Anne. Annie, wake up," he said as he shook his twin awake.
"Huh? Oh, Ed. What it is?" she blinked owlishly as to get the sleep out of her eyes.
"You fell asleep. Where's Al?" he questioned her as he got her to her feet. She dusted off her clothes and looked around the room.
"I don't know. He was here a while ago."
Suddenly there was a howl and the great white mass of Alexander once again slammed into the oldest Elric, causing him to scream again as he was pinned to the library floor.
From around the corner Alexander had come from, came Alphonse, carrying a laughing Nina on his shoulders.
"Oh hi, Nii-san," he said upon noticing his older brother under the dog.
"Don't go 'Hi, Nii-san' me!" Edward snapped. "What were you doing if you weren't looking for any files?! You left Annie alone!"
"Um, Nina looked like she wanted to play," Alphonse said.
"Don't be so easygoing-!"
Alexander licked the young alchemist's face. Anne laughed.
"Alexander says he wants to play with mister and sissy too!" Little Nina chirped from atop the younger Elric's shoulders.
"Oh you sure got some guts to want to play with me," Edward said as he wiped away the dog drool with the handkerchief he borrowed from Anne.
"They say that lions use up all their energy when they hunt rabbits," Edward paused then suddenly started to head towards the dog a run. In response, Alexander barked and started running away from short alchemist.
"I, EDWARD ELRIC, AM GOING AFTER YOU WITH EVERYTHING I GOT, YOU DAMN MUTT!"
Alphonse sighed while Nina and Anne broke out in laughter.
"Yo, Boss. I'm here to pick you guys up." Havoc said as he found the Elrics, along with Nina and Alexander. "….what the hell are you doing?"
Edward, unfortunately, was once again under Alexander.
"Erm," Anne quickly said as she said Edward couldn't talk, "We're just taking a little break from scrimmaging around for files or something like that!"
"Does that mean you found anything helpful?" their host asked.
The young blonde gave him a daggered expression and Edward gave an angry yell.
"You can come again tomorrow," the man said nervously.
"Will you, mister, and sissy some see me again?" Nina asked Alphonse.
"Yes! Let's play again tomorrow!" he replied.
The Fullmetal Alchemist freed himself once again and walked to the bemused 2nd Lieutenant, his expression rather annoyed. Anne walked up to their host and shook his hand.
"Thank you for letting us into your home, Mr. Tucker. It was nice meeting you and your daughter."
"Oh, it was no problem, really," he said.
Just as they packed up their things and were about the leave the house, Havoc stopped.
"Oh, yeah. Mr. Tucker I've got a message from the Colonel, 'Evaluation day is coming up. Don't forget.'"
The Sewing-Life Alchemist stood there before answering, "Yes, I understand."
That next day, Nina had decided to tell the Elrics why exactly her mother was not with them anymore. The younger Elrics listened whole-heartedly to the young girl's story, but the oldest only partially since his head was stuck behind a book.
"So your mom left two years ago?" Anne asked
"Yeah," replied the young girl, who was using Alexander as a recliner, "Daddy said, "She went back to her family"."
The younger Elrics could sympathize with the girl, completely understanding what it was like to lose a mother. "Oh. It must get lonely to be in a big house like this with just your father," Alphonse said.
"No, I'm ok. Daddy's nice and I have Alexander too. But," the girl looked sad as she gently brushed Alexander's fur, "lately it's been lonely because daddy's been cooping himself up in his lab."
Anne looked sadly at the girl. She closed the book she been holding for Alphonse and stood up. "I'm getting stiff after sitting for so long." She rubbed her back and stretched the kinks out of her automail arm. "My arm's stiff."
"The best relief for stiffness is a bit of exercise, Nee-san," Alphonse informed his sister.
"Right," Ed said as he got up himself, "Let's go exercise in the garden."
"Hey, MUTT! I need exercise, so I'll play with you!" the alchemist explained to Alexander in the same challenging voice from yesterday.
"Come on, Nina. You can come too," Al said gently.
After the blonde twins collected their coats, the mix-matched group headed outside and began to play, with the Elrics acting the same age as Nina. Ed had started a race between him and Alexander and Anne was chasing the young girl around the entirety of the yard with the help of Alphonse. By the end of the activities, Alexander had once again claimed his favorite spot- on top of the oldest Elric.
"It seems it's going to rain today," Edward said, looking up at the clouded-grey sky as Alphonse rang the doorbell.
"Yeah, my joints are slightly hurting," Anne said as she rubbed her shoulder area.
"Hello?! Mr. Tucker?!" Alphonse said as he opened and took a peek inside the large house. "Huh?"
The house was completely empty. There were no signs of Nina or Alexander anywhere. The siblings made their way through the quiet corridors.
"No one's here. I wonder if they went somewhere?" Anne asked as she didn't catch any blue glimpses.
"Mr. Tucker?"
All the while the older Elric has not said a word. Anne felt something. It was quiet, too quiet. Something was wrong. They checked the library, the lab, the dining room, until they found him. He was behind a secret door in the lab, which they had trouble finding since it had been covered by some boxes. He was crouching, apparently talking to something covered from their view.
"Mr. Tucker?"
"Oh, it's you guys," he said as his eyes landed on the siblings, with a small smile on his face, "Take a look at the finished product."
He got up, dusted himself, and spread his arms in a dramatic manner. "This is a chimera that can speak the human language."
The Elrics were shocked.
'It kinda looks like a dog. Those glowing white eyes are pretty creepy though. Hmm, it has long hair, that's strange. But why does it feel like Nin-," Anne eyes widened, "No. he couldn't have. Not Nina…'
"Watch this," he said, crouching in front of the chimera, and pointing at Edward, "This person is Edward."
"Ed—ward?" the chimera said in a low, deep, but slightly childish voice.
"That's right. Good job," he said, then pointed to Anne, "That person is Anne."
"An—ne?"
"Wow," Edward said, not noticing his sister's shocked expression. "I can't believe it. It really is talking."
Anne slowly walked up to the poor creature. She rubbed its snout, tears pricking her eyes. 'Please don't be who I think you are. Please.'
"I'm glad I made it in time for the evaluation," the spectacled alchemist said, "I don't have to worry about my research funding for the time being."
"An—ne, An—ne…." the chimera repeated. "An—ne…..Sis—sy…"
Anne's eyes widened as she gasped, her worst fear becoming reality.
"Mr. Tucker," the blonde said in a low, stern, voice, yet hitches between breaths were heard. No one noticed the tears falling down her cheeks.
"When was your research on talking chimeras approved of and when did you get your license?"
"That was two years ago, I believe," Tucker replied, rubbing his chin.
"When did your wife leave?"
"….Two years ago."
"One more question, if you will," Anne said as she scratched the chimera under its chin. She got up and faced the group of men behind her. Her brothers gasped as they saw the tears running down her chin and the look of pure, unadulterated rage and hatred on her face.
"Where the hell are Nina and Alexander!?" she barked. The boys were shocked.
"I hate children with good instincts, especially girls, with their 'women's intuition'."
Anne gave an animalistic scream of rage as she rushed the older alchemist, and slammed him to wall by his collar.
"Nee-san!"
"Annie!"
"YOU SON OF A BITCH! HOW DARE YOU, YOU FUCKING BASTARD! FIRST YOUR WIFE, AND NOW YOUR DAUGHTER AND HER DOG!" Anne screamed in rage.
"What!?" the boys said, both turning to look at the chimera. "Sis—sy…" it said.
"No…" Ed slowly fell to his knees, as the dog looked at him curiously. "Ed—ward?"
"You could only do so much with animal experimentation! So it should be a piece of cake if you used humans right?!" Anne demanded.
Silence.
"Why are you so mad?" Tucker asked calmly. "Haven't the advances mankind has made come from results of the countless experiments on human beings, to use medical science as an example? As a scientist, you-,"
"NO FUCKING WAY! Do you think you're going to be forgiven from doing something like this?! For toying with human lives?!"
Tucker gave a crazed laugh. "Human lives?! Look at yourself, Blind Miracle Alchemist! Look at your limb and your sight! Your older brother's limbs! Your little brother's body!"
Tucker's glasses went flying, blood and saliva flew from his mouth as Anne drove her metal fist across his face. The force of the punch sent him to the floor. Alphonse simply watched, frozen in terror. Edward remained in front of the Chimera-Nina.
Tucker looked up at the infuriated blonde, and laughed. "Aren't those the results of your so-called 'toying with human lives'? We're the same, you and I!"
Anne lifted him up by his shirt and slammed him on the wall again. "YOU'RE WRONG!"
'Annie dear can you help me with dinner?' A smile.
"No, I'm not," the man said. "You saw a possibility in front of you and you just had to try it!"
"YOU'RE WRONG!" Anne cried, and punched him again.
'Oh Annie that's beautiful!' A flash of blue.
"And even if you knew it was banned, you couldn't stop yourself from trying!"
"YOU'RE WRONG!"
'Annie dear, your hair looks so pretty.' A flash of gold.
"We alchemists….stuff like this…." Anne punched him harder. "I…" Another strike. "I….!"
'Annie, I love you.'
She let out another scream, completely losing it and continued to beat the living shit out of the man in front of her. Her entire vision was entirely flooded in red and he stood out against the raging emotions that flooded down her cheeks.
Alphonse couldn't take it anymore. He couldn't bear to watch his sweet older sister reduced to such an animalistic state of misery. Before she could let loose another fist, Alphonse grabbed it in a solid grip and refused to let go when he felt his sister try to tug away.
"Nee-san. If you hit him anymore, he'll die."
Her breath came out in large huffs as she let go of the man, who was barely recognizable. Edward, who had been trying to make sure Nina didn't get involved, looked towards his younger sister. Her face was covered in blood, her tears streaking the blood down her face. Her long braid was messy and her clothes were splattered in blood.
He watched as Alphonse took their shaking sister out of the room, not allowing her to see Nina, in fear of her going into hysterics again. He began to follow them when he heard Tucker behind him.
"It's not possible to get things done without dirtying your hands," he said as the older Elric stopped, along with Nina.
"Mr. Tucker," the braided alchemist responded, pausing. "If you don't shut the hell up…I'll beat the shit out of you ten times worse than what my sister did to you, and this time," he said as he glanced back menacingly, "You'll be leaving this house in a body bag."
Holy Crap! 6k words! This is the longest chapter I've written to date. I feel so proud of myself! Sorry for the lateness of the chapter. I have no excuses besides being lazy as hell. I wrote this until 12:30 in the morning so I hope you enjoy this extra long chapter and please review!
[1] The best way I can describe the way Anne's sight works is by comparing it to Eagle Vision from the Assassins' Creed franchise.
