"No. NO. It can't be," Anne shouted in her head like a mantra as she ran down the streets of East City. Rain was pouring down, a weather befitting her mourning mood. She thought about what Lieutenant Hawkeye just told her and her brothers and she couldn't stop the tears as they cascaded down her face and to the sidewalk.

"She's not dead. She can't be dead!"

Anne sat in her dorm room bed across from her brother. She had refused a dorm in the Women's section because she didn't want to be away from her brothers. She looked up and sighed as she saw the pale blue figure of her brother across from her.

They had come here, Ed, herself, and Al, after standing in front of the Eastern Command Center and speaking to Colonel Mustang. Edward had screamed how they were human but yet they couldn't save a little girl. She had started crying hysterically again, and Colonel Mustang told them to turn in for today.

She sighed again. Why was life so hard?

She went to sleep, facing away from her brother and curled up.

"Mommy! Mommy!" little Anne called, her short golden hair shining freely in the afternoon sun.

"What's the matter, dear?" Trisha asked with an apron full of freshly picked tomatoes as her only daughter came to halt in front of her, her hands outstretched covering something in her small hands.

"Heh, Heh, Here's a present!" the little girl giggled out, holding out a small, beautifully crafted, metal cat.

"Oh, for me?" Trisha said, taking the cat. "How did you do it?"

"I transmuted it!"

"You did? That's daddy's little girl," the woman said as she stroked the girl's hair. "Thank you, Annie. You're so talented, making such a perfect object. But…"

Trisha suddenly began to change. Blood began to drip down her face, from her eyes and mouth. Her skin darkened and her limbs twisted and shifted in unnatural positions. She became the most grotesque imitation of her previous beautiful self, completely frightening, scaring the child before her.

"You couldn't make me right….."

She dropped the tomatoes and the metal cat and started walking slowly towards her. She backed up, her small hands grabbing at the hems of her dress, her beautiful golden eyes widening in fear. She froze as her mother's bloody hands touched her rounded cheeks.

"Don't you love me, Annie?"

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"

Anne sat bolt right in her bed, her mouth still open in a silent scream. She sat there, panting with cold sweat covering her body. She hugged her left arm to her chest, trying to find some sort of comfort.

"It hurts…." She gasped, crying once again. She sat there for a while, until she heard another gasp next to her.

"Bad dreams Ed?" she asked quietly.

She only received a nod from her older brother, as he was still shaking from whatever it is that woke him up. She saw him curl up, hugging his automail leg to his chest, breathing deeply as if to calm himself.

"It hurts, Annie," he whimpered.

"I know Ed," she said as she glanced outside the window, seeing the early morning sun slowly rise in the horizon, "I know."

Later on, after recovering from the nightmare, taking a shower and getting dressed in her black tank top and red jacket, minus her sleeveless black jacket, and her knee length boots, the siblings made their way to Colonel Mustang's office.

Edward and Anne stood before the double oak doors of Mustang's office, with an identical frown on their faces. With a sigh they turned around, but were stopped by Hawkeye coming out of the office.

"Edward! Anne!"

"Oh, hi Lieutenant Hawkeye," Anne said turning around to face the blonde officer, who had her black military coat slung over her arm.

"What's wrong?" she said, "You guys are up early this morning."

"Oh, uh, see we were wondering…" she stuttered out.

"We were wondering what's going to happen to Tucker and Nina," Edward said.

The soldier paused, before replying in her usual serious tone, but with a hint of guilt, "In addition to having his license revoked, it was planned for Mr. Tucker to be put on trial at Central, however," she took a deep breath before continuing, "The two of them died."

The siblings gasped and Anne brought her hands to her mouth.

"Officially, they were 'killed'," the blonde woman continued, as she put her coat on.

Anne's eyes widened.

"I'm telling you this because even if I lied, you would probably figure out what had happened eventually."

"No way….BY WHO?!" Edward shouted after Hawkeye, as the woman bean walking away. Anne stood frozen next to Alphonse.

"I don't know. I'm heading off to the crime scene now."

"Take me too!"

"No." she answered sternly.

"Why not!?"

The woman stopped and turned her head around.

"It's better that you didn't see."

At those words, Anne ran out of the office, leaving a group of bewildered soldiers.

"A-Annie!"

"Nee-san stop!"

That had been 20 minutes ago. She was sitting on a ledge of a fountain somewhere in the city. She looked up towards the rainy sky, the drops of precipitation falling down her porcelain skin. She was soaked to the bone but she refused to find shelter.

"I'm an idiot, I haven't improved at all," She sighed.

"Mr. Elric!"

She watched a military police officer was approaching her. She sighed again as he within hearing range.

"Wrong Elric, Mr. MP."

"Oh please forgive me Ms. Elric," the MP apologized sheepishly, "I've always gotten you and your brother confused, but thank goodness you're alright!"

"It's alright; I get it all the time. Do you need me for something?"

"Oh, yes! You are to return to base immediately," he said quickly said, "The truth is that there's a serial killer running loose in the-"

"Edward Elric?" asked a tan manned with an x-shaped scar on his face, "THE FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST!"

Before she could react, the tanned man activated a power in his right hand, which lit up with red electricity, and slammed it into the military officer's face. Blood exploded out as of his head and he fell, dead before he even hit the ground. He turned his attention to her, and she shook violently as he geared for another blow, but she instinctively jumped out of the way and the man hit the fountain instead turning it into rubble and the water running under their feet. She was once again frozen to her spot.

"This is a bad!" she thought. "But my legs aren't moving even though my head's telling to run the hell away!

The scarred man walked closer and closer.

"I'm going to die!"

Suddenly, as a clock tower nearby struck nine, the State Alchemist regained control of her body. Leaping out of the way of another assault, the golden-eyed alchemist ran down the street she had just come from.

"You won't get away!" the scarred man cried in a gruff voice, as he pursued her down the somehow empty street. She heard another explosion behind her but she refused to turn around. She slipped a couple of time on the wet street, but quickly got up and began running again.

"What the hell did I do?! I'm not my brother damn it!" She called over her shoulder to the serial killer behind her, but he was far way enough that he didn't hear her. "Edward I'm going to kill you!" She looked ahead again and noticed an entrance to an alleyway. She quickly took a chance and turned.

'God, why do you hate me?'

The alleyway was a dead end. She heard splashes of water and she turned around, coming face to face with her attacker himself.

"Who the hell are you?" she demanded, squishing her feeling of fear. "Why are you after me?!"

"If there are creators, then there are also destroyers," he said mysteriously.

She didn't answer. She clapped her hands and turned her automail into the double-ended blade she had made in Liore.

"You've got guts," the scarred man said as he stood his ground as she attacked him. She pulled her blade above her head and swiped down.

"But you're too slow!"

As the man moved, he rammed his hand forward to break the blade, but she pulled back quicker than he had imagined. Of course. She weighed a lot less than Edward did. "I'm not standing around waiting for you to kill me." She said as as she stared him down.

"You create a transmutation circle by putting your hands together, then use the power that flows between them..." he said, ignoring her.

For a split second, she and the man stood in silence, glaring at each other, before it happened.

She ran towards him, her blade pulled back and ready, when…..

"Then, the first thing to do is have this annoying arm," as she closed in, slashing, he grabbed the extending metal sword in his hand and cried, "Destroyed!" he activated his power again, sending it down her arm. Her eyes widened. Her automail shattered as she fell backwards. Wires, metal and bolts fell from the demolished limb. The only thing left intact was part of the blade.

She couldn't believe it. She fell to her knees clutching her empty shoulder port. She looked up defiantly at her attacker, and with her right hand she stood back up and faced her surprised attacker.

"I won't," she said breathlessly, "I WON'T DIE LIKE THIS!"

She removed her tattered red coat and stood in a battle stance with her only arm in front of her. She refused to wallow in self-pity for a missing arm. She would kick this guy's ass and find her brothers.

"I have two brothers whose bodies I have to return, so I'm not going to give up you bastard," she said confidently.

"I will recognize your courage, Fullmetal Alchemist," the man said as he activated the power in his again.

She sighed, "Look I'm not-,"

"But, I will give you time to pray to God," he said, and then charged at her again.

She gasped and jumped to the side but it wasn't quick enough. His hand caught her braid, and it cut through the golden tresses, her hair now ending near her skull, in a crooked cut.

"My hair…." she thought.

"My promise…." She said out loud, and she slumped to her knees on the ground.

"My brothers….will you kill them too?" her question came out as a whisper. He stopped in front of her shivering form.

"If there are obstacles, I will remove them. But for now, the only one I have business with now is the Fullmetal Alchemist….only you."

"Heh, Heh…..HAHAHAHAHA! That's good! I stopped you before you killed my brother. I am not the Fullmetal Alchemist, you bastard, I'm his twin sister, Anne Elric," she said as she gazed up at the sky.

"Anne Elric?! The Blind Miracle Alchemist?!"

"Yep, the one and only. Will you listen to this dying girl's request?" she asked quietly.

He didn't answer.

"Promise me, that you won't touch my brothers. My older brother may be a state alchemist but he's done nothing to incur your wrath. It was not by choice that we became state alchemists, but necessity. So please, let him live."

Silence. "I will keep my word."

"Thank you," she said, then fell silent, waiting and turning her head towards the ground. He was close, only centimeters away.

A gunshot was heard through the pouring rain and a voice shouted, "That's as far as you go!"

The scarred man, his hand ready, quickly turned around. She looked up.

"NEE-SAN!"

"ANNIE!"

Colonel Mustang, who had fired the shot, was standing there, several other armed soldiers and police officers, including Hawkeye, Havoc, and…..her brothers!

"Colonel, please! This man-," Anne said as she regained her speech, only to be interrupted by her superior officer.

"That was close one, Blind Miracle. Be glad that you're brothers reported you missing. That man is a suspect for the murders of several State Alchemists, but there's no doubt about it after looking at the present situation," he faced the scarred man standing not three inches from her, "So, you're also behind the murders at the Tucker residence?"

Her eyes widened before narrowing at her attacker. 'You killed Nina?!'

The dark-skinned man turned away from all of the soldiers, the three State Alchemists, and Alphonse before speaking again. "Alchemists are those that twist the natural state of creation to a degenerate form…. That is, in short, is sacrilege to our creator, God. As the messengers of God, we are those who carry out God's judgment."

"That's something I don't understand," Colonel said; his expression one of anger. "There are many alchemists in this country. Why are you only targeting those that have national licenses?"

"No matter what, if you interfere, I will eliminate you too."

"Interesting…," the Colonel said, he then tossed the gun towards Hawkeye.

"Edward and Alphonse please stay back," he said as he saw the Elric brothers getting ready to join the fight.

"But Annie is over there with that bastard!" Edward shouted at the colonel.

"Leave this too me Fullmetal!"

"Remain where you are, Fullmetal Alchemist," they turned towards to man, his arm ready to fight with the Colonel, "I have promised this girl to spare your life, but if you attack me, I will have no choice but fight back."

Edward clenched his teeth and his landed on her, whose eyes kept telling him to stay back.

"I am Colonel Roy Mustang, the Flame Alchemist."

"I have heard of you. For one who turns against God, to come in person to receive judgment….." he clenched his hands before crying out, "Today is a good day!"

Anne shouted from her position on the ground, her hand covering her port, "Colonel, you idiot, you can't perform alchemy! It's raining, dumbass!"

The man in question stopped, but not before being tripped by Hawkeye, the scarred man's hand passing over the Colonel's face before he fell to the ground. Lieutenant Hawkeye quickly pulled out two guns and began shooting the dark-skinned man, but he dodged and moved behind a corner.

"What was that for Lieutenant?!"

"As Anne stated previously sir, you're worthless in the rain."

"Yeah, when it's as wet as it is you can't make a spark," Havoc said, putting his two cenz in.

"Humph. In addition to you coming here, it's nice how you can't perform your alchemy." The man said as he walked out from his corner and faced all present. "State Alchemists and those who are obstacles in my mission! I will annihilate everyone here!"

"Let's see it then!" cried a booming voice.

The man leaped backwards as a metal gauntlet-clad fist slammed into the wall beside him, sending stone flying and hitting Anne.

"Damn it, that hurt!" She said as one scratched her near her temple and began bleeding. "Great now I'm bleeding too!"

"Hmmm, to be able to dodge my attacks means you are quite good," the tall, muscular man boomed. "Oh you fiend who commits wrongs against this nation!"

Anne sweat-dropped, as well as Edward, Havoc, and Alphonse, who were on the other side of the so-called battle field, as they watched the Major.

"You said that you would annihilate everyone here? Including this young, defenseless girl? How absurd! Then first, best me in combat!" Hawkeye was unimpressed and Mustang was still wallowing in his uselessness.

"Me! The 'Strong-Arm Alchemist', ALEX LOUIS AMRSTONG!" Armstrong finished his speech, and showed off his metal gauntlet, a transmutation circle etched into its back.

"They keep coming one after another today," the dark-skinned man said to himself. "This will save me a lot of time!"

"Haha, so I see you will not withdraw!" Armstrong said, tossing a piece of the broken ground into the air. "Very well, then I will respect your courage!" he punched the piece of stone, and activated his transmutation circles on his gauntlets, causing a huge-stone bladed object, which flew towards the man. He sidestepped out of the way just in time for thing to hit the wall and exploded into rubble and dust.

Anne rubbed her head as another piece managed to hit her head. "I've had it!" she cried as she clumsily got up and walked up towards the Colonel and her brothers. She felt her brothers' arms surround her as she made it across.

"Annie, thank god you're ok!" Edward cried out as he hugged his sister towards his chest.

"Nee-san, what were you thinking running off like that!" Alphonse chastised.

"I'm sorry Ed, Al," she said, her adrenaline finally going away, as she felt Hawkeye's jacket slipped unto her shoulders by the woman herself, "I just needed to think." She could feel the day's stressful events wearing her down.

"'Needed to think' my ass, you almost gave us a heart attack when we heard there was a serial killer on the loose and you were somewhere in the city!" Ed shouted again.

Anne bowed her head, "Sorry….."

Edward felt as her body grew heavy on him. He looked down and was surprised she was unconscious, her body finally giving out.

"Anne? Hey Anne, this isn't funny!"

"She's ok Edward. She must have passed out from exhaustion. We have to get her to a hospital before she catches pneumonia," Hawkeye said gently, "Havoc!"

"Yes sir!"

"Get the Elrics to the hospital, we'll handle things here!"

"Right!"

Havoc escorted the Elrics to the nearest car, and zoomed to East City General Hospital.

Anne groaned as she woke up. Her body felt like lead.

"Nee-san! Nii-san, she's awake!" she heard a voice coming from her side.

"Al-l, that you?" she asked gruffly.

"Yeah, you're in the hospital, if you're wondering. You passed out when you came to us. You've been sleeping for a day now. It's already after noon," Alphonse said gently.

She made an effort to get up but her body felt too heavy. She felt a gloved hand on her back that gently pushed her up.

"Don't be too reckless, Annie," she heard coming from the other side of the bed.

"Ed?" she sighed in relief. "You guys are ok."

"Yeah, of course we are. What was up with you and Scar?"

"Scar? Who's that?"

"The man you were fighting to the death with!" Edward yelled at her.

"Oh. Well it's not like he gave me his name, you idiot! He just randomly attacked me because he thought I was YOU!"

Silence.

"He….beat you up like this…..because of me?"

"Oh don't start the guilt parade, Edward Elric! I'm fine see. I-," she stopped when she felt her brother's hands on her shoulders, shaking her.

"Anne, you're not fine! You have bruises everywhere. You got hit on your head. YOU LOST YOU'RE ARM FOR GOD'S SAKE! HE CUT YOUR HAIR!"

Her eyes widened as she felt her brother let go. She shakily moved her arm to the back of her head. There weren't any long golden locks of hair anymore. Someone had gently cut her uneven tresses into a short boyish hairstyle. If she could have seen herself, she would have seen she was the spitting image of her older brother when he was nine years old.

"Lieutenant Hawkeye fixed you're hair while you were sleeping. I didn't look very pretty, so we asked her to fix it," Alphonse said gently.

"We talked with the Colonel. We are planning to go back to Resenbool to get you a new arm, so Major Armstrong will be escorting us in case we get attacked by Scar again," Edward said bitterly.

"Did you make an appointment?" Anne asked him.

"What?"

"Did. You. Make. An. Appointment?"

"No, why?"

"Ugh, stupid brother. Get me to a phone," she demanded.

"But Anne, you're-"

"Major Elric, you will take me to the nearest phone, or so help me god, I will break your arm so you know how it feels like!"

"Yes, Lieutenant Colonel Sir!"

"Good now help me up," she turned towards her brother. She had received that title after a certain incident with a rebel group who had turned over to the neighboring country to the west of Amestris. She had stopped them before they had crossed the border. She had done this with Al, because Ed had been incapacitated in the hospital after a mission with a rogue Ice Alchemist. She became the youngest to ever hold the rank.

They walked down the hallways of the hospital, Anne smelling the hint of death and antiseptics.

"Here we are Annie, I'll dial the number for you," Edward said. She felt the phone in her hand and brought it to her ear. A tone was heard before she heard the phone being picked up. A male voice came from the speaker.

"Rockbell Automail Shop, how may I help you?"

"Good afternoon, this is Lieutenant Colonel Anne Elric. I was wondering if I may speak to Winry Rockbell."

"Oh yes she's here. Hold on please. Ms. Rockbell, there's a Ms. Elric on the phone!"

Anne heard commotion as someone else grabbed the phone.

"Annie is that you?"

"Hello, Winry. Yes it's me. Listen I need to make an appointment."

"Huh? What's wrong?"

"I'll tell you when I get there! I just need a repair!" she semi-lied quickly.

"Fine. At least you're calling unlike a certain someone."

"We'll be there in a day's time, ok? And prepare for the worst ok?"

"Wait, what're you,-"

CLICK!

The Elrics and Major Armstrong had arrived at the train station and Edward was not happy. He was sitting next to the bulky Major and was being squished to the window. Anne was sitting comfortably next to Alphonse who had begun fussing over her injuries.

There was a sudden knocking on the window and the group looked at to see Hughes.

"Lieutenant Colonel Hughes?" the girl said.

"Hello. The guys at HQ were too busy to drop by so they sent me here instead," he said raising his hand in greeting, "I got a message from Roy."

"The colonel?" the twins said at the same time.

"Post-processing is a pain in the ass, so I will not permit you to die within my jurisdiction. That was for Ed."

"To Anne he said: "Get your arm back and don't get into any trouble. I will not lose a precious subordinate. Watch over your midget brother for me"."

Anne covered Edward's mouth as he began to rant as usual, "Thanks, Lt. Colonel Hughes. Please thank the Colonel for his kind words and tell him I will watch over Ed."

"I will. Well then, be safe on your journey! Give me shout if you're ever in Central!"

The three alchemists gave their salutes, Alphonse waving goodbye instead.

The train sprang to life and chugged away a few minutes later, and soon was going through the rolling countryside.

AN: Well, here's another chapter! I'm proud to say I actually like how this chapter came out. It's a bit shorter than the previous one because I wanted to get this part over with.

I also need something from you all. I need to know who I pair Anne up with. I already have someone in mind but I still think I need some insight. Just drop a review about who I think I should use and I'll think about it.

Ja ne!
