Brat Sitting

"What?" Gajeel asked stunned as he looked down at his petite wife, Levy.

"I said that we are going to watch Luna for Nastu and Lucy today." Levy said with her cheeks puffed out in irritation.

"When on Earthland did we agree to watch Salamander's brat for the day?" Gajeel grumbled as he sat down to pull his boots on.

Levy only rolled her eyes "We agreed to last week when Lucy asked us so her and Nastu can have day together."

Gajeel only sighed "Alright, Shrimp. When are they dropping her off?"

Levy only smiled at Gajeel "We are meeting them at the guild in an hour. It will not be that bad, I mean Luna is four years old. At least she is not an infant."

Gajeel nodded in agreement as he went to follow Levy to the guild hall to pick up their charge for the day. On the way to the guild hall Gajeel felt like he was missing something. He kept looking his wife over from head to toe, and Levy noticed.

"Is something wrong, Gajeel? You keep looking at me like I have two heads." Gajeel blinked "Are ya feeling alright, Lev?"

Levy balked at her husband's question. "I feel fine. We are not skipping out on watching Luna today. All of the Exceeds are visiting the Exceed village today and everyone else is out on jobs. We promised Lucy, Gajeel."

"I'm not trying to watch Bunny Girl's brat! I just feel like something is off and I can't figure out what." Gajeel growled in frustration. He could tell something was off he just could not figure out what. His senses were trying to tell him, but Gajeel could not pinpoint the source for the life of him.

Levy felt bad for thinking that Gajeel was trying to get out watching Luna. She knew that he became grumpy when his proverbial scales were being rubbed wrong. She reached out and rubbed Gajeel's arm before gently taking his hand in her own.

"Hey it will be okay, Gajeel you will figure it out. For now let's just go pick up Luna for the day." Gajeel nodded and began to walk again with Levy still holding his hand.

When the Redfox couple walked into the Fairy Tail guild hall they were surprised just how quiet it was. Mira was tending to the bar where the Dragneel Family sat eating breakfast. Most of the guild members were out on jobs. Nastu and Happy had been out on a job the week before and had just gotten back into Magnolia three days ago. Lucy had been upset that she and Nastu had not spent any time alone together in roughly two months' time. Lucy had asked Levy and Gajeel to watch Luna just for a day so she and Nastu could spend honest time with each other.

Levy and Gajeel walked over to the small family. Levy smiled as Luna turned and a smile lit her face; mouth full of food " Unt Levy!"

Lucy turned to her daughter "Luna please don't talk with your mouth full! You might choke on your food." The little girl nodded before chewing her food and swallowing her food. Lucy sighed as her daughter displayed her ability to eat just like her father. Luna stood up before going to hug Levy and the without pausing, Gajeel. The iron dragon slayer froze he was used to kids being scared of him, not willingly hugging him.

"I have not seen you in forever Uncle Gajeel! You are always training and doing jobs like Daddy." Luna told the slayer as she tried to wrap her small arms around Gajeel's waist. Gajeel patted Luna's head before looking down at Luna Dragneel.

"I am here at the guild hall more than you realize, Flame." Luna giggled at her nickname. She liked the fact that Uncle Gajeel had nicknames for just about everyone.

Nastu walked over and picked up Luna and placed her on his shoulders. The little girl with bright pink hair laughed at her father. Nastu just smiled and nodded at Gajeel. Over the years Nastu had not lost his impulse to fight everyone any chance he got, he just knew not to fight when Luna was around; for now. The two males looked over where Levy and Lucy stood talking.

"So Luna does not have a care list this time; she mainly plays until noon when she will want lunch, depending on the day she may take a short nap, but she will also might just go right back to playing. Nastu and I should be by to pick her up around five so you don't have to worry about dinner." Lucy was telling Levy.

The shorter mage just nodded. Her face was a little pale and Lucy's eyes narrowed. "Have you to him, yet?" Levy just blushed and shook her head 'no'. Lucy shot her friend a look that clearly meant that they would be talking about the issue when there were not two dragon slayers with heightened hearing nearby. Levy nodded in understanding. Lucy smiled before walking back over to where their husbands stood. Nastu bent down to set Luna back on the ground.

"Alright Luna be a good girl while we are gone, okay?" Nastu told his daughter.

"Okay, Daddy I will be good; I promise." Luna said with a smile as she gave her father a good bye hug.

Lucy then hugged Luna and kissed her head. "Okay baby we will be by to pick you about five, okay?" Luna nodded.

"Okay Momma. Have fun with your day with Daddy."

Levy, Luna, and Gajeel walked back to Redfox home shortly after Nastu and Lucy had left the guild hall. Gajeel still felt like something was off, but for now he pushed it to the back of his mind as he kept a careful eye on Luna. Salamander and Bunny Girl's daughter was a very energetic four year old. As it was the Redfox couple decided to stop a small park nearby their house and let Luna play outside in the nice spring air. Gajeel sat a park bench while Levy and Luna ran around the park playing with the few other children there. Gajeel loved how his wife was not beyond simply playing with any child just because she was an adult. Levy would gladly play along with any game the children made up. At one point Gajeel chuckled to himself as his wife pretended to be Luna's first mate on her imaginary pirate ship. As Gajeel continued to watch Luna and Levy he felt that nagging feeling resurface again.

The iron dragon slayer as irritated to say the least; this stupid feeling would not leave him alone. No one he knew was in immediate danger; Levy was fine, Luna was happy. Gajeel grumped for a bit until he noticed that it was almost noon. Cupping his hands around his mouth Gajeel shouted out

"Oi! It is almost lunch time. Let's get back to the house." Both Luna and Levy stopped before walking over to Gajeel. The trio then turned and made the short walk to the Redfox home. While Gajeel and Levy's was not huge it was nicely sized with four bedrooms, two baths, a full kitchen, and a den room.

"Okay, Luna what you like to eat for lunch today?" Levy asked the young girl. Luna placed her hand under her chin a look of thought on her face.

"I know that it is warm out, but grilled cheese with tomato soup sounds really good today." Luna look at Gajeel and Levy with hope in her eyes.

Gajeel smiled "Grilled cheese and tomato soup comin' right up, Flame." Luna smiled "Thank you Uncle Gajeel!"

"Yer welcome." As Gajeel headed to the kitchen to get lunch started Levy gave Luna a coloring book and some crayons to color with.

"It won't take long for lunch to be ready, Luna so let's color until then, okay?" Luna nodded she liked to color, plus playing at the park had really worn her out. Levy seeing that Luna was content and happy coloring made her way into the kitchen. She felt herself pale at the smell of the tomato soup. Gajeel stood at the stove stirring the soup. Levy walked over to Gajeel and wrapped her arm around his waist while taking shallow breaths. Gajeel placed a kiss on top of Levy's head without much thought.

"Would you like something else for lunch, Lev?" he asked. Gajeel could tell that Levy was worn out from playing with Luna, but as soon as she had come into the kitchen that feeling that had been bugging Gajeel was back. He also noticed that Levy was taking shallow breaths.

Levy nodded "Just a ham and cheese sandwich, please. I'm worn out after playing with Luna so I might leave you in charge and take a nap."

"Okay, Shrimp. I think Luna may also take a nap as well. She seems pretty worn out from the park." Gajeel said as he put some tomato soup in a bowl for Luna and himself. Levy paled as the two bowls of tomato soup passed under her nose. Gajeel noticed Levy pale once more. He would ask her about it after her nap he decided.

"Luna, yer lunch is ready!" Gajeel called out. An "Okay" was heard in reply as well as small pitter patter of socked feet. Luna sat down at the small table in the kitchen where Gajeel had placed her plate and bowl. Without thinking the dragon slayer pour a small glass of milk and placed it next to Luna. The small girl eyed the drink with distain, but knew she would have to drink it.

Lunch in itself was uneventful and shortly after the dishes had been cleaned and put away Gajeel found Luna asleep on the couch with a blanket covering her. The tall man then tip toed up the stairs to his bedroom. Gajeel cracked open the door and saw that Levy was also taking a nap. The nagging feel that had been driving him insane all day was once again back in full force. With a frown on his face Gajeel walked back down stairs before opening a door in the hallway. Leaving the door open so he could see into the den room where Luna slept Gajeel picked up a small piece of metal and began to tinker with it. This was how the Iron dragon slayer relaxed. He would craft small trinkets of metal. He had made Levy's wedding ring this way. Right now Gajeel was working on a small statue of his father, Metallicana. Gajeel had tried time and time again to make a small version of the dragon that had raised him and taught him magic, but he had yet to create one that Gajeel felt did the dragon justice.

Gajeel spent the next few hours working on different projects. Levy and Luna both continued to slumber on. It was about two in the afternoon when Luna woke back up. She wandered into Gajeel's little work shop with her coloring book and crayons. The small girl was still sleepy and found a small uncluttered corner where she could color while Uncle Gajeel worked on his little metal toys.

Gajeel watched as Luna joined him in workshop and begin to color once more. The two worked on their projects in silence until about three when Luna spoke up

"Uncle Gajeel, why do you make all these metal toys?" Gajeel paused as he looked up at Luna.

"I don't really know, Luna. I relax when I make them so that is why, I uh, guess." Gajeel replied.

Luna nodded before asking "What do you do with them when they are done?"

Again Gajeel blinked. "I put 'em on the shelves. Sometimes I make 'em as gifts for people." Luna nodded in understanding. She had several metal toys the Uncle Gajeel had made for her. Her Daddy even had a small statue of Grandpa Igneel that Uncle Gajeel had made for him. Luna went back to coloring until there was a soft knock at the front door. Luna and Gajeel both went to the door.

Gajeel was surprised to see Nastu and Lucy at the door. A quick glance at the clock proved that it just past five o'clock. Gajeel watched as Nastu scooped Luna into his arms. The little girl was laughing at her father's antics. Gajeel turned to look at Lucy.

"Was she good for you while we were gone?" Lucy asked.

Gajeel nodded "Yeah she got to play at the park until lunch, she then took a nap and colored for the rest of the time. Levy laid down for a nap after lunch and is still asleep, though."

Lucy frowned at the news that Levy had spent the afternoon sleeping and still had not told Gajeel her news yet. Lucy gave Gajeel a small smile

"Well that is okay; I know that she has been really tired lately. Thanks for watching Luna for us, Gajeel. Tell Levy that she and I will talk tomorrow at the guild."

Gajeel nodded back and gave a small "Will do" as he waved to Dragneel family as they walked back to their own home. As Gajeel closed the door with a sigh he went to go check on Levy once more. The nagging feeling was bothering him again. Gajeel heard the sound of someone puking as he got close to his bedroom door. Gajeel quickly and quietly went into the bathroom attached to the master bedroom and found Levy hunched over the toilet. Without pause the dragon slayer pulled back his wife's hair and began to gently rub her back. It took Levy's stomach several minutes to calm back down.

"Are you okay, Lev? Do we need to take you to see Porlyusica?" Gajeel asked quietly as he placed Levy on their bed.

Levy shook her head no. "I have already seen Porlyusica about this. It should pass shortly. Did Lucy and Nastu pick Luna up already?"

Gajeel nodded yes to Levy's question before asking one of his own. "What do ya mean you have already seen the pink witch about this?"

Levy took a deep breath to steady her nerves. "I got sick while you were on your last job. I have been getting better…" Levy's voice trailed off.

"But, come on Shrimp, I know that there is a but coming." Gajeel said as he ran a large hand through Levy's hair. The bluenette closed her eyes at the contact. With one last deep breath finally came clean

"I'm pregnant, Gajeel. You are gonna be a daddy in a few months."

Gajeel was stunned to say the least. At the news the nagging feeling left him and one of joy and elation took its place. With a wide dopey grin on the dragon slayer's face Gajeel kissed Levy and whispered "I can't wait to meet our lil' one." Gajeel placed his hand on the lower part of Levy's stomach. "Thank you, Levy."
