I don't own Naruto. I only wrote the fan fiction! If some of the characters seem a little OC-ish then I'm sorry - I haven't been keeping up with the episodes so don't bug me, and I might have changed a couple things - that is another thing NOT to bug me about! There may also be other characters in this story that ARE OC so don't start telling me that I added characters...please! (Italic - thoughts, "..." is speech, and ~~ is flashback)
Someone Screamed - Sacrifices Are Taken
Sasuke stopped just outside of the Forest of Quiet Movement; seeing a young girl in danger. She was standing in front of a group of sound ninja.
Kakashi had caught up with the boy. "Why were you running so fast?" He whispered.
"Anyone screaming is obviously in danger. I feel the need to help those who need help. Any help matters Kakashi."
"Since when was he so chivalrous?" Kakashi thought as he looked intoSasuke's onyx eyes.
"I want to handle this on my own." Sasuke whispered as he walked closer toward the Forest of Quiet Movement; only to be stopped by Kakashi. "Wha?"
"I can't let you go out there alone."
"I can do this...please trust me sensei. I promise...just please le'me do this." The gennin pleaded.
Kakashi let go of the boy's arm and sighed. "Fine...but if it starts to look bad for you I'm stepping in and taking over."
"Fine by me." Sasuke said before jumping into the trees.
Kakashi just watched and waited; not sure if Sasuke would be able to take on five sound ninja alone. He tried to forget his worries and waited for Sasuke.
Sasuke moved into a position were he could attack all of the sound ninja from behind. "They won't even know what hit 'em." The gennin thought before he decided to jump out attack. He had killed two by stabbing them in the back.
The girl saw Sasuke kill two of the sound ninja surrounding her. At first she was startled; making her scream, but then she realized that Sasuke wasn't there to kill her and the sound ninja - he was there to kill the sound ninja and save her.
Sasuke continued to fight off the sound ninja. "Go! Get out of here! I'll hold 'em off!" He ordered. He had killed off two others afterwards.
She nodded. "Thanks Sasuke! I'll never forget this!" The girl said before running off. She ran by Kakashi without even knowing it; she just did as Sasuke had told her to do - just get out of harms way and get home safely.
One sound ninja had turned around before Sasuke could kill him and punched him away. He flew back and fell to his knees - the guy had been wearing spiked knuckle knives (another form of brass knuckles). The boy felt his chest in case of holes from the knives; turns out there were holes, and those holes were letting a lot of blood out. "I guess I should be thankful...he could've used his other fist as well..." Sasuke thought as the last sound ninja standing walked over to him; a looming shadow over the boy. He lifted Sasuke's face. "Such a pity to see someone like you go to waste ya know." He said with a sly smirk.
Sasuke yanked his face out of the man's grasp; only to be whacked again, but this time it was a bare fist to the side of the neck. The gennin fell to the ground completely; coughing up a little blood here and there; in sever pain. Once again he saw the looming shadow. "You wanna do somethin' else stupid ya little runt?" The ninja questioned.
Sasuke stayed silent; gasping for air.
"GET UP!" He shouted.
Sasuke couldn't move; he had lost too much as it was.
"I said...GET UP!" The man said before kicking the boy in the side.
Kakashi didn't know what to do. He had told Sasuke that he'd help him if things got bad for him he'd step in and take over, but now he froze in his hiding spot. It wasn't until he heard a young girl's voice. "Sasuke! You can do it! Get up and kick his butt! Do something! Are you going to take that from him?! Show him how strong everyone knows you to be!"
Sasuke's gaze turns to the little girl in the clearing; tears streaming down her face. "Why are YOU crying? I'M the one who wants to cry!" He thought; although he knew the girl couldn't hear his thoughts.
Kakashi stood and walked up next to the girl. "C'mon Sasuke! Don't take that from him! I know for a fact you're stronger than this! Get up!"
The girl looked up and noticed that it was Sasuke's sensei - Kakashi. She smiled, but it then faded quickly.
Sasuke attempted to get up; only to be kicked back down again by the looming shadow above him. "I don't think so! I'm not done here!"
The gennin groaned and winced in pain; his vision starting to slowly fade. He was also starting to shut his eyes.
Kakashi noticed the boy's eyes slowly shutting; the onyx orbs slowly disappearing under tan-ish eyelids. This enraged the jounin; making him run at the sound ninja standing in front of him and punching him square in the face.
The sound ninja flew backward and landed on his back. He stood to see the jounin walking toward him; his fists clenched; one fist was electrocuted; bolts of lightning fly off and disappearing after they leave.
Kakashi walked over to him; his shadow looming over him; just like the ninja had done to Sasuke. The jounin directed the electric current on his fist into the chest of the sound ninja on the ground out of anger. "NO one does THAT and gets away with it." He said in a low voice before he killed the ninja lying before him.
The girl was still standing in the clearing by the time Kakashi turned around. The jounin looked at the body on the ground and ran over. The boy's eyes were slits, blood was trailing from his mouth, and there was a set of four holes in his chest. "No...Sasuke..." The man whispered; tears starting to well in his eyes. "Wake up...Sasuke don't leave me...please..." The man pleaded. "There are people who need you, who consider you family, people who would really miss you, who'd cry if you were gone..." He stopped; unable to say anymore; his voice cracked so much, and he just hold anymore tears back.
The girl ran up next to Kakashi and sat down. She decided to finish Kakashi's sentence for him. "People who'd never be able to do what they can now without you there to see it, people like me, Kakashi, Naruto, and Sakura..." She was now sobbing, but she continued on. "We'd hate to see a great guy like you, Sasuke, have to go like this. You're an amazing ninja, and a great friend to many people. You even went out of your way to save someone you didn't even know from those sound ninja. Many people would be very sad if they found out that you died saving a little girl like me...a girl who...hasn't even graduated from the academy yet...a girl who...never thought...she'd be...the cause of...someone's death...especially someone...like...you...Sasuke...so please...please wake up...wake up..." She said before breaking into tears and putting her head on Sasuke's punctured chest.
"I should've never let you go alone... I should've gone with you anyway...I should've stepped in earlier...I-I'm so sorry...you'd-"
"St-op...that's *cough* *cough* enough...sensei..."
Kakashi's eyes widened when he heard the faded voice of his student.
The girl instantly lifted her head from Sasuke chest; her eyes widened as well.
The boy's eyes were opening; the onyx glow was no longer there I'm afraid. In the slits of the gennin's eyes shined two sapphire orbs; making both the girl and Kakashi jump from shock.
"S-Sasuke?"
Sasuke coughed a little; a little blood coming out as well from the puncture wounds on his chest. "What?" He asked; his voice very raspy. He tried sitting up; only to fall back down, but before hitting the ground Kakashi had caught him and helped him sit up.
"We need to get you to a doctor..."
"No...what good will they do? They know nothing about me." The boy protested.
"They know enough to treat your wounds...if those stay open they could get infected and you take the risk of death...again."
"So?"
"I almost lost you once...I'm not gonna almost lose you again."
Sasuke looked at the girl sitting by me. "You gave me courage...Seri..."
The girl smiled. "I couldn't let my hero die...I would be able to call myself an Uchiha...if I did..."
Sasuke's eyes widened. "D-did you say...U-Uchiha?"
"Yeah...Seri Uchiha...why?"
"How come I've never known you were an Uchiha?"
"I don't know, but it's not your fault...you probably weren't told about me anyway..."
A small smile crept onto the boy's face...it was the best he could do right now.
Kakashi picked Sasuke up. "Let's go...you need to be treated ASAP."
Seri stood and walk along side Kakashi as they left the Forest of Quiet Movement.
They walked down the path to the hospital from the forest.
Sasuke winced every couple minutes from his chest.
Once they walked into the hospital; one of the nurses saw them. "Can I help you?"
"Yes...he has some sever injuries and has lost a great deal of blood. He needs help...like now."
"May I?"
"Sure."
The nurse walked over to the man and the young girl next to him to examine the Uchiha in the man's arms. She gasped when she saw the puncture wounds in his chest and the scratch marks on his neck. "Oh dear...he IS severely injured...one moment please sir...uh...before I go..."
"Yes?"
"What is his name, your name, and her name if you will?"
"My name is Kakashi Hatake, he is Sasuke Uchiha, and her name is Seri Uchiha."
"Thank you. One moment please." She said before walking through a set of double doors.
They heard someone talking over the intercom. "Dr. Tsunade please report to the main lobby...Dr. Tsunade please report to the main lobby."
The doors opened again, but it wasn't the same nurse they had talk to; instead it was Tsunade. She walked into the main lobby and over to Kakashi and looked at Sasuke. "Hey Kakashi...what happened here?"
"I'm sorry if I come off as anti-social to you Tsunade, but he's in a critical condition and is in need of help."
"Right sorry we can get into detail as soon as I do what I need to with him."
"Thank you."
The girl looked from Tsunade to Kakashi and back to Tsunade and became worried for her brother. "Is my brother gonna be okay?"
Tsunade looked down at the young raven-haired girl. "Your brother is going to be just fine Seri."
Seri slightly smiled and nodded. "Okay...thank you Dr. Tsunade..."
The woman smiled. "Of course." She looked at Kakashi. "You need to follow me."
"What about Seri?"
"Seri can come too."
Seri grabbed the jounin's shirt and walked beside him through the double doors down the hallway. They entered an empty room; a hospital bed with a heart monitor, a stand with a clear plastic bag with a clear liquid inside. "Lie him there." Tsunade directed.
Kakashi did as he was told and put Sasuke down on the hospital bed.
"I need you two to leave for a moment...it won't take too long. I just need a while okay?"
"Okay...c'mon Seri. Let's go wait in the waiting room okay?"
The girl nodded. "Okay."
They left the room and walked back into the waiting room. "Do you really think my brother's gonna be okay Kakashi?"
"Of coarse I do. I trust Tsunade as a Doctor. Don't worry Seri...Sasuke's going to be alright, but he's probably going to have to stay here for a while."
The raven-haired girl looked at the floor. "Okay..."
The man put his arm around her. "I promise he'll be okay."
The girl smiled then. "Okay."
A couple hours past; Kakashi and Seri had fallen asleep in the waiting room.
Kakashi opened one eye (even thought he has only one eye showing but...ya know); hearing a woman's voice. "Mr. Hatake?"
"Mn...what is it?"
"You're free to go see Sasuke...if you'd like, but I have t remind you he might be sleeping." She said with a smile.
Kakashi nodded and shook Seri. "Seri wake up..."
"Hm? What is it Kakashi?"
"C'mon...we can go see Sasuke."
"Okay." She said sleepily as she slid out of the waiting room chair. She took the jounin's hand and walked to Sasuke's room.
Kakashi saw the open door and walked through to see Tsunade finishing up with one of his bandages. The woman looked over to see Seri and Kakashi standing in the door way.
Kakashi gestured for Seri to go and stand by Sasuke's bed while he had a small chat with Tsunade. The young girl nodded and walked over to one side of Sasuke's bed and sat in the chair.
Tsunade and Kakashi walked out of the room and a little ways down the hall. "So how did this happen?"
"Sasuke had heard a scream and decided it was a good idea to go see who it was. He got there and saw Seri being attacked by a group of sound ninja." Kakashi started.
"Okay...go on..."
"He had killed off four of them and was about to kill the last one when that ninja had turned around and punched him in the chest to get him away. The man he was fighting had been wearing spiked knuckle knives so that's where the hole came from."
"Right...keep going."
"Sasuke had fallen to his knees; the ninja who had punched him had walked over...something happened that made that ninja angrier than he already was and Sasuke had been punched in the side of the neck; explaining the scratches on his neck."
"Okay..."
"He was kicked in the side because he couldn't get up, and he had already been beaten by this man quite a bit...other things happened after that...Sasuke tried to get up but was kicked down, and worst of all of that was the fact that he almost died because of me..."
"Why was it you?"
"I froze when I could've stepped in and saved him...he wouldn't be in the conditions he's in if I just when with him instead of waiting for the right moment to step in and help him." Kakashi said looking at the floor. He looked into Sasuke's room; the boy was still sleeping, but his sister was whispering to him - telling him how sorry she was for all that has happened to him because of her.
"Well that's all I need to know...why don't you join Seri in Sasuke's room and I'll leave you three alone?"
Kakashi nodded and walked into Sasuke's room. He walked to the other side of the boy's bed and knelt beside it; placing his hand on one of Sasuke's. His eyes widened however...Sasuke clenched his hand around Kakashi's fingers.
One of his (now) sapphire eyes open at the slightest. He saw Seri on one side of his bed, and then he saw Kakashi on the other side. He attempted to speak, but his voice was nowhere to be found. Instead he groaned and the other eye opened.
"Sasuke...you're awake?"
The boy went to sit up; only to wince in pain from his chest.
"Easy, easy...you don't want to hurt yourself more than you already are." He said helping Sasuke sit up.
"Yeah...I know, I know."
"Well...uh...besides the fact that you're in pain from your chest...who are you feeling?"
"I feel better than when I first got here if that's what you're asking..."
"That's good...it's a start, but it's good."
The three talked for a while until Sasuke's nurse knocked on the door and walked in. "I'm sorry Mr. Hatake, but visiting hours are over for today, but if you'd like you can come visit Sasuke tomorrow."
"Alright thank you then...c'mon Seri."
"Okay. Bye brother." Seri said with a smile on her face before she walked over to him and kissed his cheek and gave him a hug. "Feel better." She whispered.
Sasuke smiled slightly. "Will do kiddo." He whispered back.
Kakashi walked over and gave Sasuke a small hug. "See ya tomorrow Sasuke." The man whispered.
"See ya Kakashi." Sasuke whispered back.
Kakashi and Seri walked out the door after saying their good-byes to Sasuke. They shut the door and left.
"Could I possibly stay at your house Kakashi?"
He looked down at the raven-haired girl; a warm smile crept onto his face. "Of coarse you can Seri."
"Thank you."
"No problem." He said taking her hand as they left the hospital. "It's like I'm walking with Sasuke again, but...it's just...it's not him...I can just see him in her...I can see how they're related. It's such a close resemblance...the two of them..." Kakashi thought as he and Seri walked to his house.
They got to Kakashi's house and got inside. "At least we know he's going to be okay." Kakashi said leading the young girl to the guest bed room.
"Yeah...I guess, but I just wish he were here too...not stuck in a hospital bed..." The girl said as she climbed into bed.
"That said...you need your rest. Go to sleep." He said with that same warm smile he gave to the girl's older brother as he tucked her into bed.
"Kakashi?"
The man turned before leaving the room. "Yes?"
"I just wanna know one thing..."
"What is it?" He asked as he walked over and sat on the edge of the bed.
"Well I promise not to say anything about this, but do you have any 'special' feelings for my brother?"
"What makes a question like that pop into your mind?"
"It's just how you act around him...I learned that people like other people a certain way if they act a certain way around said person...so...do you?"
The man remembered the first time he had seen Sasuke's genuine smile - a smile that lit up his entire face, made a curve at the ends of his onyx orbs, and the smile so bright the gennin's teeth could be seen from a mile away. He paused. "You promise?" He asked.
The girl nodded. "Cross my heart." She replied.
Kakashi sighed. "I do...have 'special' feelings for your brother."
The girl giggled.
"What's so funny?"
"I surprisingly had 'special' feelings for my brother before I remembered that he's my brother to tell the truth." She said; a small giggle in her voice.
Kakashi smiled. "Well now that that's been answered...go to sleep."
"Okay..." She said before lying down and shutting her eyes.
Kakashi stopped in the doorway to look back at the young girl who had just gone to sleep...a girl who looked so much like her brother. He smiled again, shut the door, and walked down the hall to his room.
