Mercenary: Thanks! I recently went to one and got this idea. I will reveal more in the third part.
Roaring Setup Part 2.
Madge stared. "Don't have any good objectives?" Gale asked and started peeking over her letter. She folded it quickly and with shaking hands stuffed it back in the envelope.
"None," her voice shook, "none of your business." She parted with her friends and ran off in pursuit of Jo. She found her talking to Finnick and Annie against the bar. "Hey, Jo, can I talk to you?"
"Sure," Johanna grinned and pulled her over to the other side of the kitchen.
"Do you think this is funny?" Madge asked her, waving her envelope.
"I mean it's about time..." Johanna started to say.
"I want it to be natural," Madge squealed, "not some silly objective at a party."
"Well if it makes you feel better, he has no idea what you have on your page."
"Does he have the same objective though?" Madge asked her. Johanna was silent.
"Johanna!" She practically yelled.
"Ruby," she said tapping on her name tag. Madge groaned and stomped her foot on the ground. She rushed back out into the living room straight toward Delly.
"Hey, I've been looking for you; can you tell me D's secrets?"
"I haven't learned them yet and even if I knew I probably wouldn't tell you," Madge told her.
"Some friend you are," Delly pouted.
"We have bigger problems," she dragged her friend towards the bathroom, locking them inside.
"This has to be serious," Delly said, "should I get Katniss?"
"Good idea, I'll be here." Madge waited.
"Gale seemed pretty upset that you were upset," Delly and Katniss said at the same time, closing the door behind them.
"His objective is to kiss me," she told them.
"So?" Delly and Katniss said, "You should be happy."
"On what planet would that make me happy?" She asked them, "Gale is going to kiss me because of an objective at a party? That sounds awful."
"Yeah, not very romantic," Delly agreed. Madge pulled herself up to sit on the counter.
"What should I do?" She asked them.
"Just talk to him about it," Katniss said.
"What?" Both Delly and Madge exclaimed.
"No!" Madge squealed, "He'll know I like him."
"He already knows," Katniss groaned, "you guys flirt all the time and we're always altogether- he must know now."
"I don't care if he thinks he knows... I just don't want to tell him flat out." Madge sighed.
"You're acting like middle schoolers," Katniss said and pinched the bridge of her nose. "We're in college."
"It would be awkward if they didn't feel the same way about each other. Or if they did and they broke up that would be awkward. If they were together and they got in a fight it would be awkward. It's just a whole thing," Delly explained.
"You're not helping," Katniss told Delly.
"I just don't know," Madge said and slumped forward.
"Kiss him," Katniss groaned, "get it over with and then get drunk."
"You sound like Jo," Madge smirked.
"Or you could avoid him at all cost!" Delly said perking up. Katniss and Madge stared at her.
"Good plan," Katniss sighed.
"Let's go with that," Madge agreed. They filed out of the bathroom.
"Personal distracting bodyguards at your service," Delly said putting a hand up to her forehead in salute.
"Thanks, guys…" she moved out into the living room again and spotted Gale. He was talking to Peeta; his expression was as distraught as hers. "Maybe I should just talk to him."
"That literally goes against everything I said," Delly pouted.
"I can come with you if you want," Katniss offered.
"There has been a murder!" Johanna cried running out into the middle of the room. Everyone turned towards her, waiting for the reveal, including Gale. They made eye contact from opposite sides of the room. Madge didn't look away and neither did Gale. He was starting to look relieved but her heart pounded with anxiety, and she was sure her face was bright red. Madge looked away, when Finnick busted in from the kitchen. He staggered across the floor to Johanna and collapsed at her feet. "Max Warner has been killed!"
Annie ran from the crowd, a smile tugging on her lips, "No, Max!" she acted, struggling to pull his heavy body towards her. Everyone laughed, but Madge's was more forceful, her heart was in her throat and her hands were starting to clam up. She glanced at Gale, he was grinning from ear to ear, seemingly relaxed. She wanted to hit her forehead against the wall.
"We'll open the floor to anyone who wishes to guess the murderer. If you get it wrong, you'll have to take a shot," it seemed like everyone started talking at once at that point. Madge tried to stuff herself behind as many people as possible to get away from Gale. Delly caught on and started purposely moving people between them.
"That's not obvious," Katniss muttered but seemed to be doing the same thing. Madge could no longer see Gale and people were taking shots left and right.
"I think it was Dewey and he used the butcher knife." Gale said coming up to where they were standing.
"Take a shot, Hastings," Jo laughed. He was so close.
"Nah," he refused, "my character isn't a fan of alcohol, remember? It's prohibition and I actually care."
"Alright, Hastings."
"Hey guys, what's going on?"
"Not now, Gale," Madge heard Katniss warn, "get lost."
"What are you talking about?" Gale asked her.
"Just stop trying to mess things up," Delly added.
"What am I messing up?" He asked, "Look Thom seems sketchy…"
"It's not about the party," Katniss said lowering her voice.
Get it over with and then get drunk, Katniss' advice earlier rang in the back of her mind. She glanced into her solo cup and then finished it. Madge moved around her friends and grabbed Gale's hand. He was shocked to silence when she lifted herself up and pressed her lips to the corner of his mouth.
"Our objective is over with," she told the group and moved passed them, "aren't you supposed to be dead?" Madge asked Finnick at the bar.
"Supposed to be, but I can't pass on, I have drinks to make."
"Great, give me one." Madge took the solo cup and downed half of it, turning to Johanna, she quickly scanned the wall of possible weapons and suspects, "I think Nathaniel did it with the beer bong," she told the hostess.
"Wrong," Johanna smirked and handed her a shot. Madge tossed it back, finished the drink in her hand and turned back to Finnick.
"Are you okay?" He asked her.
"Peachy," she told him, "give me another." Madge leaned against the counter. Finnick looked skeptical.
"Madge," Delly said, approaching her. She groaned.
"Just leave me alone," Madge sighed and glanced back at Finnick. "Make it," she said, "I'm fine."
"Don't," Delly warned him. Finnick stepped away from the bar.
"Look Katniss said to get it over with and then get drunk," Madge reminded her.
"I don't think she meant it," Delly said and offered her arm.
"I can't believe," Madge grabbed her head, "I can't believe I actually kissed him," she told Delly.
"It was a little sloppy," Delly agreed.
"I ruined everything," Madge continued.
"He seemed really surprised," Delly said.
"That helps," she growled.
"Gale didn't have that objective," Katniss said briskly walking to them.
"What?" Delly and Madge exclaimed.
"Surprise!" Johanna grinned, walking over. The girls glared at her, "oh come on…"
"I'm going to be so drunk," Madge cried and covered her eyes, "and I kissed Gale!"
"This has been pretty eventful," Peeta said, walking in on their conversation, "and I'm sincerely confused."
"One of Madge's objectives was to kiss Gale. She went to Jo and said she wouldn't do it and that it was wrong to put it on there. Jo acted like she put the same objective on Gale's. Then Madge freaked out because it wouldn't have been natural, romantic or real and Gale would have done it without thinking. Then she was going to avoid Gale but ended up kissing him sort of and then now she's had two drinks and a shot… but Madge can't even handle one drink." Delly told him quickly.
"I'm going to have alcohol poisoning," Madge wailed; her limps were starting to get heavy.
"The whole thing is a mess," Katniss said, "I'm going to take Madge home."
"I'll take her home," they all turned to see Gale. His hair was disheveled from worrying it and his bow tie had been undone along with the first two buttons of his shirt. "I didn't know any of that," he said, "and I want to take her."
"You'll probably make things worse," Peeta told him.
"I haven't had a thing to drink," he said, "It would make sense that I would drive." Katniss made a face.
"Yeah, Peeta, you're going to have to drive me home," she told him.
"Figures," he grinned.
"Come on," Gale said and moved through the patch of friends to Madge. She glanced up at him and took his hand. He pressed a hand to her lower back and gently pushed her all the way to her coat.
"Sorry," she murmured as he helped her with the sleeves. He turned her around slowly, so she was facing him.
"No need to apologize," he murmured and kissed her forehead. She stared at him. In the car, she closed her eyes, her head foggy and disoriented.
"I'm not feeling too good," she let him know quietly. He tried not to laugh but didn't succeed.
"I'm sure," he told her. Gale drove through a fast food place and ordered food for the both of them. Then he took her to his dorm. He came to her side of the car and helped her out. "Want to take the stairs?" He joked.
Madge narrowed her eyes, "sure…" she joked back, "let me just take off my heels… and my head." Gale laughed and helped her onto the elevator. He held up the food.
"I'm thinking we eat this and find a crappy romantic comedy."
"There is no crappy romantic comedy," Madge smiled. They got off on his floor and entered his single. He turned on the lights and set the food on his desk. Madge leaned against his closet door, awkwardly.
"Do you want a change of clothes?" He asked, glancing at her revealing dress. She didn't answer. "Are you alright?" He asked, "Do you want different clothes?" He asked again.
"I'm sorry I kissed you," she murmured.
"What?" he laughed.
"Don't laugh, I'm being serious." Gale's smile dropped and he wandered over to her, setting his hand on her hip and the other on her cheek. He leaned in and tipped her chin up with his nose. Pressing her in the closet, he brushed his lips with hers. "What are you…?" Madge whispered but gave in, kissing him back.
"That's a kiss," he whispered and stepped away. Madge closed her eyes and dipped forward.
"Yeah it was," she murmured, "Do it again."
"How about you change? I won't watch- I swear, and then we eat and watch a movie." Gale grabbed a pair of sweatpants and a shirt from his drawer and left it near Madge. "I'm going to get you a water bottle," he told her and left the room. Madge eyed the clothes and then tried to reach her dress zipper. She put a hand on her head.
Gale knocked, "come in," she called. Gale looked surprised.
"What's wrong?" he asked. Madge turned bright red.
"I can't reach the zipper," she muttered.
"What?" He asked, "I can't hear you."
"I can't reach the zipper," she told him, he grinned, "oh my gosh this is so embarrassing."
"Come here," he sighed; she turned around and closed her eyes. "Give me your hand." Madge awkwardly brought her arm behind her; he pressed it to the zipper. "I'll stop when I know you can grab it and then I'll go wait in the hall again."
"Stop being so considerate," she grinned as she felt the zipper pull in her hand.
"No," he argued and left the room.
