The rays of light shined through Grape's thin curtains, stirring her from her sleep. The sleepy feline tried to fall back into her slumber but was met with defeat. Today, more than ever, Grape wanted to stay in her bed following the previous night's events. It wasn't like Grape to be depressed about things that happen in life, but Max leaving her was one thing that was completely different from her everyday problems. As Grape lay in bed thinking about life, she heard scurrying on the hardwood floors coming straight for her room, "Grape!"

"Oh no," Peanut burst into Grape's room, causing the door to hit the wall, puncturing it with the door handle. Peanut looked at the hole and then back at Grape, who was now fully awake.

"I've got a problem!" Peanut yelled, completely forgetting about the wall. Grape buried her head into her pillow while groaning.

"Peanut, I believe there is no problem grave enough to get me out of this bed." Peanut got closer, seeming offended that his feline friend wouldn't get up.

"My gameboy ran out of batteries. We need to go walk to the gas station!" Peanut stated, putting his hand on his hips. Grape squinted at Peanut and sighed.

"I'm sorry, Peanut, but no. I told you last night that I wanted to be alone." Peanut's eyes softened, realizing Grape was serious.

"Well, you always say you want to be alone, but you usually always come around. What's wrong?" Peanut sat down at the end of Grape's bed, awaiting a response.

"Peanut, I don't really want to talk about it," Grape said, hoping to get the dog to let her have some peace, but Peanut sat leaning against the wall waiting for a response. Grape knew all too well that if Peanut wanted to know something, he'd annoy anyone and everyone to figure out what he wanted. Grape sat up, joining Peanut against the wall, their shoulders touching. "You really want to know, huh?" Peanut shook his head up and down persistently.

"Well, I'll make it short and simple. Maxie- Max broke up with me." Grape looked at the floor, unable to look Peanut in the eyes, scared that any emotion shown on Peanut's end would send her into a downward spiral. Crying in front of Peanut is the last thing she'd want to do.

"But, you know, it's not that big of a" Grape was interrupted and met with an unexpected hug from Peanut. Grape sat confused but decided to welcome Peanut's attempts at making her feel better and wrapped her arms around the mutt. Grape would be lying if she said it didn't raise her spirits. Peanut's warm breath and his body rubbing against hers gave her a sense of comfort, which she sorely needed. While in Peanut's arms, she began to think about why Max had ended the relationship. A few tears snuck under Grape's radar and hit Peanut's fur, which made Peanut hug harder, hoping that if he hugged his feline friend hard enough, her sadness would fade.

After a few minutes, Grape pulled away from Peanut's embrace. Grape smoothed out her fur and looked over at Peanut, who was waiting for a sign that he had made the right decision. "Thank you for the hug, Peanut. It helped." Peanut's eyes lit up, happy to see his friend back to normal, but he quickly looked to the floor while twiddling his thumbs. "What is it, Peanut?" Grape asked, confused by the sudden mood change.

"Will you go with me to get batteries now?" Grape smiled while rising to a standing position on her bed. Peanut looked at her, confused.

"To the store we go!" Grape yelled while waving an imaginary sword. Peanut's face lit up more than before.

"I knew you'd come around!" Peanut yelled excitedly. Grape leaped off the bed, and the pair left the house and started their exhilarating adventure to the gas station.

AN: Thanks for reading the first chapter. This is just a smooth introduction to the way things will be heading. Also I'm open to criticism since I want to improve my writing as the story goes on (just don't be too harsh) one more thing, I will be updating the story for as long as I'm interested in it, hopefully I will be able to finish it :D
