As if We Were Meant to Stay Together:

A Harry Potter Fanfiction

Chapter 4

"Wow," Ron mumbled.

Harry stared on because he felt no words could allow him to understand what was going on.

"Oh no…" Hermione muttered to herself.

Draco sighed, feeling upset yet again.

"Um…Hello Ron…Harry," Hermione said awkwardly.

"What…is the meaning of this?" Ron asked.

"Hermione…" Harry asked, glancing at Draco. "What are you—?"

"We have to go," Draco said hurriedly.

"No way," Ron said.

"We're…just...going to see Luna," Hermione admitted.

"With 'im?" Ron asked, jutting his chin in Draco's direction.

"I did say we're didn't I?" Hermione asked, dryly.

"You mean…you're going with him willingly?" Harry asked, searching for clarification.

"Yes…" Hermione said, looking right at her friends.

"There a problem?" Draco asked timidly.

"I'm…not sure—" Harry began.

Duh. Ron thought irritably.

"Why are you touching her?" Ron snapped at Draco.

"I…I told him too," Hermione whispered.

No! Draco screamed in his mind.

Harry's eyes widened in amazement and disbelief.

"What?" Ron exclaimed.

"Uh…we have to go now!" Hermione said hurriedly.

"Why would you tell him to…?" Ron stopped when he realized she wasn't listening. "Hermione!"

Hermione dragged Draco away from Harry and Ron in the direction they'd came from. Draco looked away from them, and started to drag Hermione in the opposite direction.

Harry glanced at Ron, an amused look crossing his face. But Ron didn't notice. He was too busy staring after the two angrily. He suddenly looked to Harry, an expression of astonishment on his face.

"We have to go after them, don't we?" Ron snapped. "This is disgusting!"

"We don't really have to go after them…" Harry said through his laughter. "They're not going too fast in two directions."

Ron was too annoyed to laugh as he glanced at the duo, as they tried to decide on a direction to go.

"Why are they together anyways?" Ron whispered under his breath.

"It must have something to do with…you know…" Harry concluded. "That whole thing in the library."

"Draco's a girl then?" Ron asked clearly annoyed. "That's why they're acting like this? Do you know how ridiculous that sounds?"

"No! Ron," Harry sighed. "Something must have happened…something that Hermione's not telling us."

"Not telling us?!" Ron exclaimed.

"Obviously," Harry said as he gestured towards Draco and Hermione.

Ron shook his head with disapproval.

"Ammatures," He muttered.

Harry raised his eyebrows at Ron.

"What?" Ron asked.

"Nothing…" Harry mumbled, shaking his own head.

"They've both lost it as far as I'm concerned," Ron continued.

"Well…on the plus side," Harry concluded. "Draco's acting a little more—"

"Draco?!" Ron exclaimed, at the unfamiliarity of Harry referring to their arch-nemesis by his first name. "He's stillDraco."

"I know but…" Harry said cautiously. "He is being nice to Hermione…now anyway…"

"Yeah sure…but just you wait…he's up to no good," Ron said as he continued to glare after them. "But…who are we to intervene, right?" He spat sarcastically.

"Ron…" Harry began, obviously worried about his friend.

"Let's get out of here," Ron spat. "I think I've seen enough…"

Harry nodded solemnly before taking one last look.

"Or better yet," Ron pondered. "We could get them out of here…"

Harry squinted, confused. "What are you talking about?"

"I doubt any of the adults would appreciate this sort of behavior from the two of them," Ron replied. "Probably not McGonagall and certainly not Snape! We might just…hint, hint a little."

"It's not like they're kissing…" Harry said. "Plus…it's really none of our business."

Who's side are you on?! Ron thought angrily.

"Do you really want Hermione getting caught up with this bastard?" Ron spat.

"Ron!" Harry exclaimed, taken aback by his friend's language. "I just… want Hermione to be happy…don't you?

"That's precisely all I want," Ron remarked stiffly.

Harry sighed. Ron started to walk away, but still looked back at where the duo had been.

"Come on," Ron called to Harry.

Harry followed despite that he was worried about both of his friends.

"That was bad," Draco said, voicing his thoughts aloud.

"I know…" Hermione sheepishly agreed through a sigh. "Sorry…"

"Not your fault…" Draco said in an authoritative manner. "Just keep them away starting now."

"Keep them away?" Hermione asked in distress. "But…they're my best friends!"

Women!Draco thought to himself as he rolled his eyes.

"At leastuntil we clear the waters a little," Draco continued.

"They'll…they'll grow to like you," Hermione pleaded.

"They hate me," Draco said shortly.

"Well…" Hermione mumbled awkwardly.

I'm not really much of a loyal fan myself but…Draco thought guiltily as Hermione continued to speak.

"I think Harry seemed…less upset than Ron was at least."

"Yes, he did," Draco agreed.

What's with Potter?He wondered.

"Weasly's such a hothead…sorry," Draco began before apologizing, for Hermione's benefit.

Hermione gave him a look, but decided against saying anything.

"Look!" She called out suddenly. "There's Luna."

Draco sighed.

"Hello there," Luna said to the two.

"Um…hello Luna," Hermione said pleasantly.

"I see you've brought company," Luna said. Luna curiously looked at Draco, causing him to turn away from her.

"I was wondering…could you do me a favor?" Hermione asked before correcting herself. "I mean…usa favor."

"Certainly. What does it entail?" Luna asked, despite that she was confused.

"Thank you, Luna!" Hermione said sincerely. "You don't know much this means to me."

Entail?Draco thought to himself at Luna's strange vocabulary choice.

"Certainly!" Luna replied. "Though I'm sure I don't know what it is you want…?"

Oh no! What do I ask?Hermione thought growing nervous.

"Hermione…" Draco murmured to his companion in hopes of snapping her out of her thoughts.

"To be hones…" Hermione began. "I don't exactly know what to ask you."

"Oh…well…" Luna stumbled before realizing the question she needed to ask. "What's wrong?"

"Uh…" Draco said, feeling awkward.

"Well…we have a…um…problem…" Hermione said feeling awkward as well. "And…we don't really know how to fix it."

"You don't have to be shy," Luna said gently.

Draco frowned at the pale girl's words.

"Well…um…Draco," Hermione asked, glancing at him desperately. "Care to help me explain?"

"We…sort of have this…thing…" Draco said slowly.

"Oh?" Luna asked.

"It's just like…like…this…thing…" Draco continued, refusing to elaborate.

"Yes! Yes! Um…a thing…together…" Hermione said.

Really?Draco thought bitterly. He wished Hermione hadn't worded it quite that way.

"Um…" Luna said feeling lost.

"It's not that sort of thing though…oh no," Draco said hurriedly.

"What sort of thing?" Luna asked gently.

"A…um…emotional kind of thing," Hermione admitted through a sigh.

"Emotional?" Draco asked, glancing at Hermione. She shrugged in response.

"I'm afraid that more information is needed in order for me to do you this favor," Luna said in a matter-of-fact sort of tone.

Maybe this was a bad idea… Hermione thought.

"It's really personal okay?" Draco spat irritably.

She's so… He thought bitterly about Luna.

"Do you mind if I cast a spell on you two?" Luna asked bluntly.
