CHAPTER 6: GAME ON
Meanwhile at Lucy's place.
Lucy's POV:
I've been sitting on my dining chair for the past hour or so just pondering about the various events that took place recently. And to be honest, I'm just plain confused at the moment.
I mean that's a bit too much to take it all in for the day, don't you think? Firstly, there was that sudden kiss Loke gave me which I pressume was an accident. Then there's Gray, who had slept with Lisanna at the party to get Jewels from his partner in crime which was unforfivable, I'd say. And finally Lisanna who had showed up at my doorstep in nothing but tears in her eyes because of Gray. Ugh!
Just what is wrong with everyone latele and here I was, just wanting to finish my uncompleted novel for the ,ongest of time.
Sighing, I rested both my elbows and head on the table hoping to get a close eye for a few minutes. Well certainly had been "eventful". I thought.
Before my heavy eye lids could close, I felt a hand on my shoulder, making me jolt up by surprise only to be gretted by a friendly smile from Lisanna as she stood behind me.
Needless to say, her eye bags were still visible but at the very least, she had finally got a grip of herself.
"Lucy-san, I think I should be going now and plus, you must've been tired." she gave me a faint smile.
"Oh, don't worry bout' me though, it's alright Sanna'."
"It's getting late and I shouldn't be bothering you any further than I already have, Lucy-san..." she persisted, this time with a worried tone in her voice.
"Het, this is the least I could do for you. What are nakamas for, right? Anyway, Mira-nee said she'll pick you up tomorrow morning so how about staying the night here?" I suggested.
"I- I don't kno- thank you Lucy..."
"Oh please, it's fine, I don't mind you staying over unlike Natsu and Gr- ah nevermind, he's always barging in without me permission." I chuckled slightly. I was about to say Gray but then... scrap it, I hate the guy and plus Lisanna's here so...
"I'm sorry but Natsu-kun and who? I didn't quite catch that." she raised a brow at me.
"Oh! Hmm, It's Happy! haha. Just those troublesome duo, you know."
"They maybe troublesome but I think they're kind of cute." now it was her turn to chuckle as she spoke about those two.
"Ehh? Say... speaking of Natsu, you do like him, do you..." I teased Lisanna, nudging her by the arm as I gave her a playful wink of my own.
"N-Natsu-kun? Lisanna doesn't likt him r-romantically." she said. I could see that the girl was fighting back a blush from my comment and that got a laugh of me. She sure was adorbale.
"Sorry, I was just messing with you, Sanna," I laughed harder, clutching my stomach.
She sighed, "Jeez, Lucy-san. You're starting to sound just like Mira-nee and her teasing now."
"Really, I didn't mean to but all jokes aside though, I'm worried..." I trailed.
I could see that she was slightly hesitant to reply me since I brought up the topic so I continued, "Why did you... do it with Gr-" she cut me off.
"It was a mistake! Please don't tell Mira-nee or anyone about this. Please, Lucy-san..." she pleaded, her eyes now in a downcasy.
"Then these lips of mine are sealed, I promise," I reassured her, patting her on the head.
"Want some soup? I'll heat it up for you," changing the topoic to lighten up the mood as I smiled while asking her.
"As much as I'd love to but it's fine, I'll go take a shower. Do you mind?"
"Ah alright then, make yourselves comfortable and I'll wake you up tomorrow morning. I'll be here if you need anything. Goodnight, Lisanna"
"Goodnight, Lucy-san..." making her way up to my room. Looks like I'll just have to settle for the sofa then.
Is it just me or Lisanna became rather... different? She wasn't as cheerful as any other day but I can't blame her for it. If I was in her situation right now, I would've been crying all day and night for sure, cooping in my bed till sunrise and probab;y stay that way for the consecutive week or so to pass by.
And as for that bastard Gray... the next time I see him, he's gonna get a taste of Lucy Kick in the nuts! It's gonna hurt so bad, he won't be able to see his own children, say goodbye to father's day forever, Gray.
I grinned evilly at the thought.
It's about time he gets a taste of his own medicine and I'll put a stop to this whole ridiculous bet game myself! He's hurt enough girls and I foremost cannot stand seeing my friends getting hurt by this unworthy of a guy any longer.
I scribbled the last but of details into the letter of my mother before sealing it off and placing it into my secret shelf.
Dimming the living room lightins, I snuggled under my blankets and pillows. Soon, I found myself dozing off on the sofa thinking about him.
"Lisanna! Mira is here to pick you up," I called up from the living room upon hearing the doorbell. Jogging towards the door, I opened it as Mira greeted me with her signature angelic smile but we all know that once she gets mad, all hell will break loss literally. That aside, I gave her a friendly hug and warmly welcomed her inside my home to see Lisanna rushing down the stairs.
"Mira-nee!" she called out to her sister only to get a slap to the arm from Mirajane.
"Oww, Nee-san, we all know you're strong but you didn't have to hit me that hard," Lisanna rubbed her sore arm as she winced from the pain. Ouch much? I thought.
"You're lucky she didn't use her Satan Soul on you," I joked, earning a chuckle from MIra.
"Oh, Lucy. I'm osrry you had to take care of my troublesome of a sister. Hope she didn't cause you any ruckus?" she raised a brow, eyes narrowed at her little sister.
"None of at all, actually! She's welcomed over anytime, Mira. DOn't sweat it," I told her.
"Thank you so much Lucy. I'll tell you what, today's special meals are on me, okay?" So feel free," she smiled.
"Sounds good to me!" and I laughed. Well at least Mira wasn't suspecting anything I guess? I fell bad not telling her about Lisanna but at the same time, a promise is still a promise, right?
Since Mira was in a rush for her shift at the bar, the two sisters had to leave early for the guild. After exchanging our goodbyes, it was my turn to get ready and head to Fairy Tail. Why? Because it's that time of month to pay my rent! I need a job, and quick unless I want to get kicked out by the landlady in a week's time!
Summoning my Nicolas spirit key, Plus appeared out of thing puffs of smoke as he wobbled his way towards me, accompanying me on my way to the guild was his daily routine. Walking by the ledge of the small waterways, I hummed my facourite tunes as Plue followed closely behind me.
"Hay, Plus. Do you think I can get that Gray to change?" I asked my spirit puppie.
"Pun! Pun!" was his reply as he continued to wobble his way behind still.
"I hope I can though," I mumbled.
"Pun, punn," heresponded before returning to the spirit world.
Rowdy as always, huh? I thought to myself. This guild never failed to amaze me whenever I stepped inside for the day. Everyone would consantly be having fun- dancing and singing throughout the day but when it comes to serious business, well.. they get real serious.
When I walked into the large built hall, everone was all smile and I myself was smilling until my eyes found their way through the guild and spotted Gray. Of all people! I thought. Way to ruin my morning, huh? I groaned internally as I made my way to the request board, making sure to keep my distance with that guy.
"Good morning Lucy," Nab gretted me, standing infront of the request board as always.
"Morning, Nab. Any interesting jobs lately?" I asked, scanning the board for the various jobs available.
"Just waitin' for Mira to update newer ones," he shrugged and I replied with a "Oh" in return.
I could feel another guild mate coming up and stood next to me but I didn't bother looking up because I was too occupied in finding a suitable job.
"Hey, cutie. So I guess I'm here next to you now, what's your anohter two wishes, Milady?" his deep husky voice was sending me chills. THis voice however was ver recognizable though.
.
.
.
What?
"Excuse me, but what?" my head shot up to see Gray looking down at me with a wide smirk plastered accross his face. The nerve! I could've sworn I would have duct taped his whole face there and then but no. Seeing his egoistic of a face just made my blood boil. I could almost feel a vein pop out from my forehead.
My eyes twitched, "How about you wipe that smirk off your face and get lost," I retorted with much annoyance, giving him a sharp glare as well.
"Say, beautiful, do you think it's fate that I met you today?
Did he just...?
I swear can this guy get any more cheesy and incredibly annoying? I was fuming inside, is he trying to hi on me now? Well, newsflash, Gray Fullbuster, you picked the wrong girl to mess with because I'm no longer that fragile girl back in those days.
Frustrated, I shot back at him, "No, I think it's just pure bad luck and I have no intentions of seeing your ugly of a face this fine morning alright."
"How was your day, Lulu?" he asked in a flirtatious tone as he traced the flyers with his fingers.
"Well, for starters, it was perfectly fine till I met you. And don't call me that or else you'll end up like your best rfiend, Loke," I threatened, almost a scrowl escaped my lips.
"Want to go for a job together?" he persisted on with talking casually, ignoring my rude remarks whil Nab just looked back and forth at us, confused at our exchange of words.
"Not in a million years I will that is, now if you please, I have a job to pick," I made a comeback, shoving him out of the way. However, he didn't budge an inch when I tried to push him aside.
"So in a million years you will? And can I get your number? I lost mine," he pressed on, smirking at me.
Seriously! WHat's up with his ridiculously meaningless pick up lines?! I was screaming in my head alright.
"No and no. More like never," I said coldly, continued eying the request board instead.
I've yet to find any suitable jobs for myself due to his unwanted disturbances which honestly speaking, I did not enjoy very much. Although, there was this job I came across earlier that caught my attention. Now where-
"Lookin' for this, beautiful?" Gray's brows rose as he waved the flyer which I was searching for in his hands.
What the actual Mavis? Why you! I think I understans why Natsu just cannot get along well with this guy. Urgh!
"Give it back, bastard!" I was literally growling at him right now, trying to snatch the piece of paper away from him but to no avail due to the height differences. At times like these, I wished to be as tall as Erza or Mirajane...
"Damn it!" I cursed under my breath.
Angry was an absolute understatement to describe me at the moment, I was far beyond that now and not to mention he crossed the line here Once I'm pissed, a hundred Erzas would be unleashed within me. Okay, maybe I was exaggerating quite a bit there about the hundred Erzas but it could me compared to Erza's wrath nonetheless.
"I'll give it back if you go with me and speaking of the reward offered for this job... 90 000 Jewels with a silver key sounds pretty good," he smirked at me yet again, obviously the tempting me into going with him. And a silver key... NO LUCY! Snap out of it, he's just trying to tempt you and nothing else!
"Just give it back, Gray. I don't want anything to do with you and besides, Natsu and Happy are my partners while you have Loke," I tried reasoning with him coolly instead but it clearly failed because he still had that amused smug look on his face.
"Nah, why choose Loke when I can have you, a cute blondie," he snorted back.
Man-whore! I snickered.
"Fine, you can have it. I don't want it anymore. I'll just find something else then," I said, brushing him as I walked to the other side of the board.
"Wait, Luce. You won't regret going with me on this mission, I promise."
"Trust me, I'll regret it sooner or later. So forget it," I simply spat at him.
"Whay is that?" he asked, raising a questioning brow.
"Because I despise you, Gray Fullbuster."
