Chapter 5: The Unforgivable Past
"Shin stay here and watch Nomi," Sensei instructed as he placed a red-haired newborn in a crib.
"But Sensei," Shin whined as a samurai helmet covering his eyes, "I want to come. I want to fight to!"
"You will some day Shin-san," Sensei said as he placed his hands on the six year-old's shoulders," but today your strength will be used to protect Nomi ok, Ni-san?"
[Fun fact: Ni-san means "older brother" in Japanese]
"Alright," Shin answered in a happy tone.
"Ok, are you ready, warrior," Sensei asked like a general in war as he grabbed his double blades.
"Hai," Shin answered with his chest in the air.
[Fun fact: Hia means "yes" in Japanese]
Sensei charged out and Shin stood proud and tall with a wooden sword in his hands. After what had seemed hours, Shin grew bored and turned his attention to his newborn brother.
"Hey Nomi, are you up yet," Shin asked as he poked his wooden sword on the baby's cheeks.
Suddenly a large cry escaped from his brother's throat and Shin began to back away from the crib. Akemi barged in with bandaged, bloodstained hands.
"Baka-Sensei Hatori," Akemi murmured as she crattled the baby in her arms. "Leaving me to care for a child while I try to heal warriors..."
[Funfact: Baka means "idiot" in Japanese]
Shin quietly snoke out of the room and creeped out the door to the world. But instead of a wonderous world, an ash filled atmosphere topped with dead bodies replaced it. Instead of being horrified, Shin made a wide grin with amazed eyes.
"This is just like the stories Sensei told," Shin thought as he cautiously wondered this new sight.
After wondering and wondering with amazed thoughts a clashing sound of two swords interrupted his thoughts. He ran towards the sound and hid under the burned trees and war forts as he made his destination. His curious eyes peeked in and witnessed a battle told in legends. A red-haired woman with black pupils and a sky-blue kimono swung her sword at the stank monster with a pale man in a gold kimono and a long blade in his hand with black hair on top pierced his sword into the monster repeatedly.
"Mom! Dad!"
The monster gave a battle cry with its last breath and faded away.
"Are you alright, Chie," the father asked the red-headed mother.
"No, not yet, Hiro-san," Chie answered with gasps between. "Not until this monster goes back into the pits of hell."
"Oh is that your wish?"
Hiro and Chie looked behind them and saw a cloaked man with green skin and wrinkles all over his skin like the prairie.
Stank circled around him as he smiled, showing his scale-like teeth and black eyes with widened white pupils standing on an ancient pillar. It was the Sorcerer, The Mad Emperor.
"So you've finally arrived," The man said in a horrifying voice, "Have you enjoyed the game you've played, cause I did."
"Shut it, demon," Hiro yelled as the green-skinned man shook in shock. "It's time to end your rain of fear."
"Hm, fine," The Sorcerer said as he rolled his eyes in disappointment, "I guess we could end our game. But, you'll have to catch me first!"
The Sorcerer faded away and Chie grinned her teeth in frustration.
"Come back here coward," Chie yelled as she leaped pillars one by one.
Her husband joined and chased after the Sorcerer as he appeared and disappeared on a pillar near by. As Chie leaped on one of the pillars and slashed her sword where the fading enemy had disappeared, a rumble echoed the battle field and a wave of rocks swarmed above her as the pillar she stood on turned into rubble. She stood still as her widened eyes stare into the rock shower and fell into the sea of ruble and let out a final breath.
"Ha! Guess, the mouse killed the cat this time," The Sorcerer yelled as he appeared, floating above them.
"Chie-san!" Hiro yelled as he watched his wife's death and dropped his sword in sorrow, falling on to his knees.
Blood flooded under the mountain of rumble and hatred and sorrow grew in the husband's heart.
"YOU SON OF A F####'N B###H!" The man yelled as he arose with red eyes with tears and a gripped hand around his sword, "COME ANF GET ME YOU F####'N COWARD!"
"I can taste your sorrow and hatred, what a tasty treat," The Sorcerer claimed as he sniffed the air and licked his lips, "Your body will do nicely..."
"What..."
A blood piercing scream filled the air as the Sorcerer possesed the husband as ripped his soul out of place. As he stood there with his eyes covering his hair, Sensei ran in with his blood stained swords in his hands.
"Hiro-san, I made it," Sensei said as he caught his breath, "Where's Chie-sa.. Oh my god.."
Sensei's eyes gazed in horror to the sight of pure blood-sheded atmosphere. His sons possesed eyes met his and made a wide grin.
"What have you done with my son, demon," Sensei yelled as his son faced him.
The man's voice was replaced with the Sorcerer's.
"I'vE sEnT hIs SoUl To HeAvEn, WhEre He CoUlD rEuNiTe WiTh HiS sOuLmAtE," The Sorcerer answered as Sensei began to grind his teeth in anger.
The rest of the conversation was blurred in Sensei's ears and he began to draw his sword as the Sorcerer continued to talk. He charged and swung his swords as he leaped above him.
"RAHHHHHHH," Sensei yelled as he pierced his swords into his sons heart and killed the Sorcerer.
His son's eyes returned back to normal as the Sorcerer's spirit left his body and fainted with sorrowful eyes staring into Sensei had just killed his son, his Hiro. Sensei dropped his sword and took his shaking hands and covered his mouth.
"I'm sorry! I'm sorry! I'm so sorry, son!" Sensei sobbed as he went to his knees with tears rolling down his cheeks.
Shin looked at the battle filed with widen red eyes with tears flowing.
"Why.. Why!" Shin thought as his sorrow turned into pure hatred. "WHY DID YOU KILL DAD! I CAN NEVER FORGIVE YOU! NOT NOW! NOT EVER!"
...
From then I raised as my own and hid this secret. No matter now much I wash my hands and say my apologies, my son's blood would always be stained in my hands. The unforgivable past has scared me and haunted me to this day. I wish I could say my sins to you face to face, heaven knows I try. Please forgive me and let my spirit leave in peace. I'm sorry.
Your beloved,
Hatori Sensei
Nomi folded the letter and slid down to the floor. He couldn't believe the contents in this letter, it sounded like a creative lie or prank. But, he knew Sensei. Sensei wouldn't lie to him. The red-head got up and opened the door. Everyone in the room stopped and stared at Nomi.
"So what do we do next without Sensei," Yumi asked.
"We'll have to keep the town maintained," Akemi answered. "And protect it when the time comes."
"That seems reasonable, but we need to do something before that," Nomi said as he gripped the letter I his hand.
"And what would that be," James asked as he held Akemi's hand.
Nomi closed the door and took a deep breath.
"We're going to avenge my family."
...
"When shall we attack, champion?"
Rieka and Shin gazed upon the preparing army from above, like kings and queens of a kingdom.
"Hm, a time when all the people are calm," Shin answered as he rubbed his chin, "I want us to invade with surprise, so it could leave a bigger impact. But the time can't be too far away. That would be unnecessary torture..."
They stood still and plotted until a light bulb lit.
"Why not the Tengu Festival," Akemi suggested, "We'll set the Stank-bombs right when the Tengu Sunset arrives and charge."
Shin chuckled as a grin grew.
"Perfect," Shin said as his grin grew wider," We'll attack when the Tengu Festival begins."
Let the games begin, brother...
