Chapter 13

"Happy Birthday to you!" Everyone sang while the birthday baby just stared at them. Today is the 1st birthday of the unexpected child of Sam and Quinn.

The night Sam and Quinn got reunited after his exhibit at the museum, they planned to get married the next day and get Andrew back. The same morning after, Quinn found out that Brody did all her final paper before leaving for Australia. She was cleared on her first year in NYFA. The civil wedding worked but getting Andrew back was a long shot. They tried to file a case but were told they would only lose if they do so. They even planned to steal Andrew and move back to Lima where no one will find them but both didn't want to go to jail if ever the plan fails. A month after getting married, Quinn missed her period and thought it was just late. She became tired and sleepy most of the time and would have mood swings all the time. She thought it was just nothing until she found herself vomiting one more. That's when she started to cry. She knew what was going on but she needed to be sure.

"Sam!" She screamed from the bathroom and the still sleeping Sam ran to find her.

"Quinn! What's wrong!" He shouted, thinking something happened to his wife.

"Go to a drug store. Now!" She said and her smile was reaching her ears but Sam was still clueless.

"What? Why? What happened?" His heart was pounding hard. The adrenaline rush was still there.

"Buy me a pregnancy test." She smiled and the tears were about to fall in so much joy.

Sam's shocked face slowly turned into the same as Quinn's. His lips reached his ears and his ears felt like flying. The words that came out of Quinn's mouth were music to his ears but he needed more. Two words that will definitely make him scream, "I'm the happiest man alive."

Sam shouted and picked up his girl. He spun her around and he didn't stop shouting. Quinn's arms are wrapped tight around Sam's neck, feeling afraid to fall.

"Sam! Sam! Sam! Put me down!" She ordered and giggled a bit. Sam did so and kissed her on the lips.

"Oh my God. Oh my God." He was losing his words. He was shaking so much, he didn't know what to do or say.

"Sam, calm down." Quinn tried to hold him and stop him from moving so much. "We have to be really sure. I want you to run down the drug store. Buy me a pack of pregnancy test. That's 3 pieces a pack. Then, we'll find out later." She explained, trying to stay calm too.

"Okay, okay, okay. I'll be back soon. Wait here." Sam said and ran to their room to put on some clothes. He went back to kiss his wife and ran to the nearest drug store.

An hour later, both we're calling their families and friends to inform them about the good news. An addition to the Evans family was on its way. They made an appointment with the doctor the next day and were told that Quinn was 6 weeks pregnant. They had a 2 out of 10 shot of getting pregnant. No matter how small that 2 out of 10 shot was, it still means they have a chance...And so they did. Quinn was asked to take 10 times of the rest she was getting. This might be hard to follow as they were still trying to get Andrew back. Sam told Quinn to not worry so much. He will work harder to get their son back so that Quinn can take the rest she needed.

A week later, Sam received good news. After having no jobs for more than 2 months, Sam finally got what he was waiting for. The New York Art Museum called him up for a job offering as the Head of Photo Research. He immediately took it and was asked to submit his requirements in 2 days. He can now assure the future of his family, including the coming of their new child.

Sam quietly went back inside the room and hopped back in bed, trying not to wake up Quinn. Sam slid inside the blanket to spoon his sleeping wife but she was already awake.

"Babe, who was that?" She looked at the clock and it was 7:25 am. "That was an early call."

"Hey. I tried not to wake you but I guess I failed." He giggled. "It was a really unexpected morning call, though. But I'm glad I answered it."

"Who was it, then?" She lied back, facing the side and closed her eyes.

"That was Eric Storm. Head of the Human Resources at the New York Art Museum."

"Oh, cool. What did he say?" She grabbed Sam's arm to wrap it around her.

"Your husband just might have a job in 2 days." He whispered in her ear.

Quinn looked at him and smiled. "What?"

"They want to hire me as Head of Photo Research at the Museum." He gave her a smirk and she responded fast as lightning. She kissed him on the lips and congratulated him. Everything seemed to be going their way. "If it's too much to ask though, would you be okay if I ask you to not work after your film course? I don't want you to be doing so much. Just stay here with the kids and I'll work for all of us."

"Well, I thought about being a housewife before... I guess that would be nice idea." She smiled. "I actually want to ask you something."

"What is it?"

"I'm not gonna finish my last year at the academy."

"Oh..." Sam paused, thinking of what to say. "Are...are you sure? Why's that?" He asked.

"I don't know. Just the pregnancy itself is tiring me. I have about 7 more months before the baby's out. I just thought it's best if I rest here at home."

"What about your dream?"

Quinn stared at him and smiled. She cupped his face with her left hand. "Dreams change. Sometimes...when a dream comes true, you'd want to focus on that more. Figuring out what's more, what's next and even what's left. Our family is my dream come true and...It's a never ending journey. I don't want to miss a second of that dream becoming reality."

Sam's smiled. He couldn't believe that the future they were once talking about before is now starting to happen. "I'll be on your side till the end of that journey."

They sealed their promises with a kiss and slept in more that morning.

It doesn't end there. Luck stayed on their side when they set up a meeting with Andrew's biological mom. Needing Quinn to be in a stress free situation, they decided communication is the best way to try and get their son back. They tried talking terms into it but Jenna Shireman was hard to convince. When Quinn thought it was already hopeless, the tears started to fall her eyes.

"I just want my son back. He's the best thing that's happened to us since we got to New York. I love him so much."

When Quinn mentioned the word love, it definitely broke Jenna's heart. She's never felt that emotion to his biological son. She's always thought of him as a mistake but Sam and Quinn treated him like their own.

"I'm like the most selfish person in the world." She said as her head went down. "The only thing I was going for was my foster father's name. I was disowned when I got pregnant by my stupid ex-boyfriend. My dad wanted me back when he was close to death but Lara didn't want me back. Lara never wanted me in that family. My dad accepted me back and gave me his last name. When my dad died, Lara took it away. She only made an agreement to give it back to me when she found out Nathan was your son."

Sam and Quinn sat there, surprised by what's behind all of these. Jenna grew up losing love so she ended up never giving love back.

"What am I going to do with the name Shireman if I don't have any love in my life?" She started to cry. "Listen. I'm going to start a new life in New Orleans. I'm leaving all of these behind me. Forget everything and start fresh. Just promise me one thing."

The couple just nodded, waiting for her to go on with her statement.

"Promise me...you'll give him all the love he deserves. Love him like I should have done the moment he was conceived."

Sam and Quinn couldn't help but cry. It was such an emotional moment in the coffee shop. Quinn reached for her hand and smiled at her. "I promise. We will love him like our own. We already do."

Jenna smiled at them, thankful that Nathan...Andrew, rather, will have parents that will treat him the way he deserved to be treated.

"Meet me at the agency tomorrow at noon. I'll sign your papers and bring...your son and his stuff back to you."

Quinn stood up and hugged her tight. She cried on her shoulders. "Thank you, thank you. Thank you so much." She kept whispering.

Everything was settled that afternoon. Everything turned out the way they wanted it to be. Before leaving, Jenna asked for one more thing.

"When he's old enough to understand, please tell him I'm sorry. If he despises me, I'll understand."

"We'll make sure our son won't grow hate in his heart. We'll make him understand."

"Thank you, Quinn. Thank you, Sam." She said and they parted ways.

On her 20th week of pregnancy, they were told that they were having a baby boy. They were happy with the news but Sam saw that there was pain in Quinn's eyes. They went home and Sam decided to talk to her about it during dinner.

"So... Another boy, huh?" Sam said, giggling. They bought Andrew a seat cushion so that he'll be able to reach the dining table. He was old enough to eat on his own but he was still under guidance.

"Yeah." Quinn gave him a soft smile. "Andrew, don't leave the carrots. You eat them too." She ordered and Andrew followed her.

"You excited?" Sam asaked.

"I guess, so. Yeah." She gave him another smile but went back to eating.

"Are you sure?"

Quinn stopped eating and looked at him. "Of course, I am Sam. Do I even need to be asked if I'm sure?"

"Well, I think you were expecting something different. You looked a bit disappoint at the clinic a while ago."

"Boy or girl, it's still our baby. Doesn't matter." She said and went back to eating.

"It does matter. I know how bad you wanted a baby girl." Sam explained.

"Well, as if we can't do something about it. We have no choice. I love my child just the same."

"Mommy, Daddy, stop fighting." Andrew said, looking at his parents.

The parents stopped and looked at their son. "Mommy and I aren't fighting. We are just talking about something important." Sam said to keep the child from their argument.

"Andrew, finish your meal. Time to take a bath." Quinn stood up and brought her plate to the sink. She started cleaning up and stayed in the kitchen.

When Andrew was done with his food, Sam put him down and he ran to the living room to play with Cooper the dog. Sam cleaned the rest of the table and brought it to the kitchen sink. Quinn was staring at the ultra sound photos posted on the fridge.

Sam hugged her from behind and Quinn wasn't surprised that he'll do that. She knew what Sam was trying to do back in the dining area. She just needed to chill out.

"Maybe next time, okay?" Sam said and kissed her head on the back. His arms were wrapped about her and they were both staring at the photo.

Quinn reached out and touched the photo like she was touching her child.

"I love him still. I just thought we were gonna get a daughter next."

" 2 boys won't be that bad. At least, our little girl will have 2 older brothers to protect her right?"

"Yeah..." Quinn giggled, thinking about her 2 sons protecting their little sister. "Although 3 little boys are a lot to handle in this house."

"I'm old enough to behave properly." Sam said.

"Oh please. You act more childish than Andrew." Quinn teased and they both laughed.

"You'll be fine, mom." Sam hugged her tighter. "We'll keep trying until we get a daughter. I promise."

"What if we're on our 10th child and we still don't have a girl?" Quinn asked him in a joking manner.

"We'll keep trying. I know you won't be able to resist me. I'm best approached in bed." Sam teased back and they just laughed at it. Sam finished cleaning up the dishes as Quinn helped Andrew take a quick bath before going to bed.

It was already her 25th week of pregnancy and Quinn still can't figure out a perfect name for her 2nd son.

"Quinn. You ready?" Sam asked, as he peaked through the bedroom door.

Quinn was sitting on the edge of the bed with a pen and paper in hand. She looked at Sam, who was at the door.

"What are you doing?" Sam asked as he walked to sit beside her.

"I... Forget it. It's stupid." Quinn threw the pen and paper to the bedside table and laughed.

"No, tell me. What is it?" Sam asked, smiling at her.

"I... I can't think of a perfect name for our son."

Sam laughed out loud. "Look, mom. You still have a couple more months to think about that." He hugged her tight. She was too adorable to resist. "How about I help you out tonight with that?"

She smiled at him and nodded. "Yeah. That'd be great."

"Alright. Let's find out how our baby is first." Sam stood up and grabbed her hand to walk out. "Andrew's waiting in the living room. He's excited to see his baby brother again." Sam added and they went to the clinic for another check up on both the mom and the baby.

Another ultra sound was made and the doctor couldn't be what she saw. It happens but not all the time. It was a rare experience for her to witness something happen like this.

"Well, well, well Mom and Dad. Looks like we're going to have a change of plans from now on." The doctor said, giggling.

"What do you mean, doc?" Quinn asked.

"Things like these happen but in rare occasions only. Well, at least for me. For you ultra sound today, it seems like the gender of your baby changed. It wasn't a 'he'. It's definitely a 'she'." She smiled at the couple and they couldn't believe what they just heard as well.

"Wait, are you sure about this?" Quinn asked, feeling really surprised.

"Yes. You ultra sound took longer because I checked it back three times. Congratulations. You're having a baby girl." The doctor said and shook both of their hands. Quinn couldn't contain the happiness she was feeling that day. Her prayers were truly heard and she couldn't be more thankful about it.

"Maybe that's why I can't think of a perfect name. I was choosing from the wrong side of the book." Quinn said, giggling at the stress she felt from figuring out what name to give. They went home that day and bought a chocolate cake as requested by Andrew to celebrate.

Sam and Quinn started cleaning up the mess from Abby's first birthday. A lot of their friends joined in to celebrate and so did Sam and Quinn's parents. Their trip for Abby's birthday was well planned that they bought a foldable mattress for Sam's siblings to sleep in. Andrew's bed was strong enough to carry Judy's sleeping weight. She'll be sleeping beside Andrew while Sam's family will stay in the guest room. Quinn was Andrew's room with Judy, talking about the celebration a while ago. Sam was in the back garden with his mom and dad, pretty much talking about the same thing. Abby was already asleep in her parents' room.

"She loved Santana's gift for her. She didn't let go of the stuffed toy so Sam just let her sleep with it." Quinn told her mom, while folding blankets when she heard a knock on the door. Stevie peaked inside the room.

"Hey, Quinn?"

"Stevie, what's up?" She said.

"Andrew did something...weird."

In a snap, Quinn was outside to check on her son. She found him in the kitchen, covered in butter all over his head.

"Andrew!" Quinn shouted and that's enough for Sam to run and check on his wife and son. Sam was surprised to see the same view Quinn saw a few seconds ago.

"What do you think you're doing?" Quinn asked, pissed at what her son looks like. He was completely sticky and messy.

"Andrew, what happened?" Sam asked as he went up to him beside Quinn. "Did you hurt yourself?"

He shook his head, looking at his daddy like the innocent brunette little boy he was.

"We were playing tag and when we went here in the kitchen, he saw the butter and reached for it. Suddenly, he started rubbing it on his head." Stevie told the two. Sam's parents and Quinn's mom thought it wasn't good but thought he was too adorable to get mad at. Quinn didn't think the same. Her son looked so dirty and she couldn't stand it. He was too playful.

"Sam, can you please clean that up." Quinn pointed at the mess on the kitchen floor. "I'll just give him a bath." Quinn went to the bathroom to start the warm water for Andrew to bathe with.

"Go on, Andrew. Follow mommy. She'll help you take a bath." Sam said as he started cleaning the floor.

Andrew followed his mother with a pout on his face. The little boy remained quiet, feeling really guilty about what he did. Quinn scolded him lightly, avoiding the shouts and anger about what he did. Bath was over and everyone went to their beds. Quinn returned to their room and Sam was already in bed, looking at the photos from that day's celebration.

"Hey. How did it go? What happened?" He asked.

"I don't know. My mom's talking to him in his room. I told him to go here once they're done." Quinn said as she grabbed some sleeping clothes in the closet and changed.

"Did he cry?"

"Somehow, yeah. He stopped crying when the bath was done."

"Maybe he just didn't like taking a bath with you." Sam teased. Sam usually gives Andrew a bath. Quinn was more assigned to give a bath on Abby.

Quinn laughed. "I don't think so. He just knows he's wrong." She said as she hopped on the bed beside him. Suddenly, a knock was heard on their door.

"Come in." Sam said and Andrew peaked through the door.

"Hey, big boy. Come here." Sam told his son and the little boy ran and jumped on his father's lap.

"Okay, Andrew. Can you explain your actions a while ago? Why did you put butter on your head?" Quinn asked calmly. She didn't want to scare her son away.

Andrew looked at his mom. "I'm sorry, Mommy. Please don't get mad." He pouted again and Sam laughed. His son learned from his father a lot about pleading his mother.

"Mommy's not mad. I just want to know why you did it." Quinn said, holding his son's hand.

"Everyone has yellow hair except me. You, daddy, Abby, Grandma Julie and Grandma Judy, Grandpa and even Uncle Stevie and Auntie Stacie. Why do I have brown hair?" Andrew asked, pouting a little more.

Sam laughed. His son was too cute and too smart. Quinn couldn't help but feel bad about her son's situation.

"Baby, come here." She told Andrew and he moved from Daddy's lap to Mommy's.

"Am I different, Mommy? Is something wrong with me?" The little guy asked.

"No, no, no. Nothing's wrong with you, sweetie. Okay, how about this... What is your full name?" Quinn asked.

"Andrew Michael Evans."

"And what is Abby's full name?"

"Abigail Monique Evans!" He said in full pride of his sister.

"You have the same last name right? That's not something different. You are Mommy and Daddy's baby boy while Abby is Mommy and Daddy's baby girl. Your hair colour doesn't make us love you any less, okay? We love you just as much." Quinn said and kissed her son. Sam has always been amazed on how much of a great mother Quinn was. She has her ways to make their children love them more.

Andrew kissed his mother and hugged her tight.

"How about you sleep here between Mommy and Daddy so that Grandma Julie can sleep well in your room?" Quinn offered and Sam pouted this time.

"Okay!" Andrew said with excitement and went under the blanket in the middle of the couple.

"What about Mommy and Daddy time?" Sam asked Quinn, using the same pout Andrew used.

"Daddy can wait. Andrew can't." Quinn joked and laughed at him.

"Looks like Daddy isn't Mommy's favourite boy anymore. You stole my place, Andrew." Sam told his son and he was still pouting like a puppy.

"Mommy loves Andrew more than Daddy." Andrew said, teasing his father.

"I don't think so... Maybe we should just settle this with a tickle fight." Sam suggested with his game face looking both at Quinn and Andrew. He raised his tickling hands on top of Andrew and the little boy started shouting. "Get ready for Mr. Tickles! Dundundun!" Sam teased his son and Andrew kept shouting and laughing.

"Mommy, help me!" Andrew told Quinn.

"Maybe Mommy will just help Daddy." Quinn said and grabbed her son's hands so he'll have no escape. The little boy started shouting and laughing more. "Do it, Mr. Tickles!" Quinn said and both her and Sam joined forces in tickling their son. It was one of those precious family bonding moments they have. Finally, it was time to sleep. Andrew became too tired from the day's activity and he just fell asleep on her mother's arm. It was a sight Sam couldn't miss. Before sleeping, he grabbed his camera and photographed his wife and son sleeping soundly.

Quinn woke up to the flick of the camera. "Again? You do that almost every night." She whispered.

"It was worth capturing." Sam said and smiled. He kissed his wife on the lips and said his goodnight. A couple of minutes later, the Evans family was fast asleep.

HELLO! I KNOW IT'S BEEN A WHILE SINCE I LAST POSTED HERE. I took a little break from writing because of Fabrevans Week on tumblr but the break took longer than I thought. I had to wrap up some ideas for here. I fast forwarded and timeline as I had to skip to the plot lines I have left on my notes. This is the last storyline written on my notes and I have yet to think of ideas for the next chapter. If you can, please do post as a review some ideas you would want to see on this chapter of the life of the Evans'. Tell me what you think and want to see and I'll try to make my own twist of your ideas. Please do keep reading, reviewing and sharing! It really means a lot! Thank you for your support! As always, thank you for reading! Read, review and Share! Enjoy!
