Sabine Island, Nunavut, Canada
Shortly after being teleported to Sabine Island, Adam and Nick quickly discovered the hidden passageway that the Nervonians had discovered and found a shrine hidden deep within.
"Do you think it's a good idea to just leave it here?", Nick asked.
"No, but I think that taking it with us is an even worse idea", Adam answered as he placed the Apple on the shrine. After closing off the entrance to the shrine, Adam and Nick walked out of the passageway and closed that off as well. As they were about to discuss a plan on how they were supposed to get back to Toronto, they suddenly saw a bright flash of light high in the sky, which disappeared soon afterwards.
"Do you think it worked?", Nick asked in a slightly nervous tone.
"I don't know, but I think something must have happened up there. Right now, we can only hope for the best". After the two were done staring at the sky, they quickly remember their situation.
"Okay, we have to think this through, because obviously walking all the way would probably take us weeks to reach Toronto", Adam said, deep in thought.
"Yeah, I agr-", Nick then noticed something right next to a nearby tree. It was a white door. "Was that there before?", he asked whilst pointing at the door.
Adam then noticed the door as well, "What the hell?".
"Where do you think it came from?", Nick asked.
"I'm afraid I don't have the answer to that either. However, I do have a feeling that this door could lead us somewhere", Adam said as he started slowly walking towards the door. He didn't know why he had that feeling, but something about that door felt... trustworthy.
"Are you sure it's a good idea to just open a strange door that appeared out of nowhere?"
"Do you have any better ideas?"
"Look, I'm just saying that we probably should be more careful with this, or do I have to remind you of a similar situation we had that one time in Croatia with-"
"Alright, alright, I got it. I promise, I'll be careful", Adam said as he looked at Nick. He then turned around and continued towards the door. Once he stood in front of it, he reluctantly turned the doorknob.
On the other side of the door there was a seemingly endless black void, seemingly nothing but emptiness as far as the eye could see. However, Adam then managed to spot a similar door in the distance. Despite knowing how reckless he was being, Adam decided to step into the void and, to his relief, didn't fall.
Nick, having decided to take a similar leap of faith, stepped into the void as well, the door closing itself behind him. It was a very weird sensation, neither of them felt or saw any solid ground, yet they did not fall.
They then somehow managed to float to the other door, "Alright then, here goes nothing", Nick moved towards the door and swung it open.
Toronto, Ontario, Canada
The door opened to reveal the living room of Nick's house. Upon entering the room, they closed the door behind them, which then instantly turned into the house's front door.
"Well that was... weird", Adam said.
"Where the hell have you two been?", Jessica said after coming down from the stairs.
After recovering from the initial shock of Jessica's sudden entrance, Nick said, "That's a bit of a long story"
"Better be a good one then, I was worried sick, especially after that white light that appeared in the sky. What was that anyway?", she asked.
"The news will probably tell you all about it", Adam quickly said, dodging the question.
"You're probably right", she said calmly, "anyway I'm gonna make some tea, anybody want some?"
"Yes, please", they both said simultaneously.
As Jessica went to the kitchen to make some tea, Nick slumped onto the chair next to the couch, visibly exhausted.
"Now before I forget, Nick I've got something for you", Adam said as he reached into his pocket and pulled out a letter.
"Why didn't you give me this when you first came here?", Nick asked as he took the letter.
"I honestly forgot, when I heard the news of people disappearing, it just slipped my mind", Adam answered.
"So who is this guy?", Nick asked upon reading the name on the letter.
"Don't know, but the Doctor told me that it has to be you"
"This letter's not due for nearly thirty years from now. What am I supposed to do, hold on to it? What if I lose it?"
"The Doctor seemed convinced that you could do this, and frankly so am I", Adam said with a smile.
"I swear one day you two will be the-", before Nick could finish his sentence, the phone went off, with the word "ring" emanating from it.
"The hell", Nick said.
"No idea", Adam replied
"Could one of you pick up the phone?", Jessica yelled from the kitchen. Adam and Nick exchanged glares and, with some hesitation, Nick picked up the phone.
"Hello?"
"Nick, that you?", asked the man on the other side of the phone line, it was Nick's brother-in-law.
"Francis?"
"Yeah, sorry I didn't call earlier, but everyone's been calling me for the past half hour"
"Why, What happened?"
"You mean you didn't see it? Big bright flash that filled the sky, it's all over the news"
"Well, I did see the flash"
"What do you think it was?", Francis asked.
Nick briefly glanced at Adam and then replied, "No idea"
"Oke, anyway, I have to go, talk to you later, bye"
"Bye", Nick said as he hung up the phone.
Shortly afterwards, Jessica emerged from the kitchen with three cups of tea. After handing them their cups, she asked who was on the phone.
"Your brother, he saw the light as well and wanted to know if we were oke"
"How thoughtful of him", Jessica said before she took a sip out of her cup.
She then noticed Adam silently knocking on the table, "What are you doing?", she asked.
"Can you see this?", he pointed at the word "knock" that appeared every time he knocked on the table.
"You knocking on my table? Yes, I can see that just fine"
"I mean the words, do you see them?"
"Yes, why wouldn't I?"
"Have these soundeffects always been there?"
"As far as I know, Nick, what's going on?", she said as she turned towards her husband. Nick gave Adam a concerned look and seemed to be just as confused as him.
"I have to go", Adam said as he suddenly stood up.
"Nick, hold on to that letter and make sure you deliver it. Don't worry, you'll hear from me again"
"Will do", Nick replied.
"And Jessica...", Adam said as he reached for his cup and downed the tea in one gulp, "... thank you for the tea", he said with a smile as he handed her his now-empty cup.
Adam walked towards the front door and opened it, before he closed the door, he looked back towards Nick and Jessica one more time, waved goodbye and then closed the door behind him as he left.
