Chapter 16

It's only been 6 weeks since Andrew started school when Quinn got a call from Pre-school Learning Tree one morning. She was at work with Abby that day. Her schedule for work has changed 2 weeks ago. She will be at the pastry shop for the first 4 hours of the day where production of the cupcakes and bread cakes will be done at the shop. Since her pastries became a hit, more orders started to come in and the customers of the shop were multiplied by 4. Mrs. Figgins couldn't deny it. Quinn was really their weapon to success. Their daily routine would be prepare for morning duties, have their trusted neighbour to babysit Abby for a while, leave the house by 7:45 am, bring Andrew to school, Sam will drop Quinn at the shop then go to work. Sam will pick up Quinn and Andrew by 12 noon and just go back to work at the end of his lunch break which is 1:30 in the afternoon.

It was just a normal Tuesday morning. Quinn was baking at work when suddenly, her phone rang. She thought it was just Sam, calling to say he was on his way so she let it ring. Quinn checked the time and saw it was only 11 am. The shop had just opened and she was finishing the final set of cakes. She washed her hands and grabbed her phone from her pocket. Surprisingly, she missed a call from Pre-school Learning Tree. What could they want? Is her son alright? She decided to give them a call back. It rang and it rang until the other line answered.

"Good morning. Pre-school Learning Tree's Principal's desk. How may I help you?"

Principal's desk? This must be something big. "Uh, hello. This is Mrs. Lucy Quinn Evans. I missed a call from you about a minute ago."

"Oh, Mrs. Evans. Hi. The Principal was hoping to see you at dismissal time today at the office."

"Why? Is my son okay?" She had a mini heart attack when she was told to go to the office.

"Ma'am, your son is just fine. Although, there are some things the Principal would like to talk to you about."

Her voice sounded calm so maybe it wasn't much of a big deal. "Okay, I'll be there in a while." She said as the call ended.

She was having cold sweats and she couldn't explain why. She was pacing back and forth if she should go now or what. She needed to call Sam. She asked for a glass of water first as she sat down. When she was finally calm to make a call, she dialled Sam's number and waited for him to answer.

After what felt like 76 rings, he finally answered.

"Hey, babe. You ready?" Sam asked.

"Sam, we have a problem." She said with a monotone.

"What's wrong?" He asked as he felt the same mini heart attack Quinn felt about 5 minutes ago.

Quinn exhaled deeply before answering. "Andrew's Principal called me up. She wanted to see me."

"Is Andrew alright? What happened?" He sounded definitely more calmed than Quinn.

"I'm not really sure but I have to be there by dismissal time. Come with me, please."

"Yeah. Of course, I'll go with you." Sam said as he immediately packed his stuff. "I'm gonna pick you up." He said and they hung up to prepare their stuff.

Quinn told Mrs. Figgins that the cupcakes were ready and that needed to go soon because of Andrew. The old lady agreed so and Quinn sat outside to wait for Sam. About 15 minutes later, Sam honked his horn for Quinn to come out.

Sam and Quinn got there as soon as they can and when they checked Andrew's classroom, he wasn't there yet the children were still having their classes. It was only 11:45. They still had about 15 minutes before they were allowed to leave. They decided to check on the Principal's office. They were met at the front desk by the secretary who seemed like a nice lady but has big boobs.

"Good morning. How may I help you?" She said.

"We're here for an appointment with the Principal. For Andrew Michael Evans." Quinn said, trying not to look at the girl's breast which was showing without trying. Sam was obviously staring because he was quiet so Quinn stepped on his foot hard.

"Ouch!" Sam nearly screamed. "What was that for?" Sam whispered to his wife as the lady giggled.

"Can we go now?" Quinn told the lady in a bitchy tone.

Lady giggled again. "Yes. The office is right there." She pointed as Quinn pulled Sam away. They went to the door and knocked before entering. When she opened the door, there she saw was her son doodling on his notebook.

The boy's face lit up when he saw his mother. "Mommy!" He shouted and ran to hug her legs.

"Hey, baby." Quinn said, hugging her son back.

"Hey, buddy." Sam said as he carried his son for an embrace.

Quinn moved forward and smiled at the Principal. "Hi. Quinn Evans. This is my husband." She said as she shook the Principal's hand.

"Principal Sylvester. Nice to meet you, Mrs. Evans. Have a seat please." She said, shaking Quinn's hand back. "I asked you to come over to discuss about your son's behaviour."

"Okay. Uh... Is he being too naughty?" Quinn asked.

"Mrs. Evans, I'm not sure if you're aware of this but... Your son's being bullied in class." Sam and Quinn's jaws both dropped in shock. "We just found out about this today because of a fight that happened during recess. After recess, Andrew kept crying saying he didn't want to go back to the classroom. I just told him to stay here until you arrived."

"What...What do you mean? What happened? How did you just know this now?" Quinn asked. She was furious.

"Your son pushed over his classmate during recess. I'm not saying it was completely his fault but..."

"No, no, no. My son would never do that!" Quinn was now upset. "He wouldn't do that unless he thinks he needed to." Quinn exhaled in frustration but Sam and Andrew were just looking at her.

"Apparently, they were making fun of Andrew's hair colour. They were saying..."

Before the principal could finish her sentence, Quinn spoke up. "Sam...can you please bring Andrew out for a while?" Quinn told him, but he actually ordered it.

"Uh, yeah... Sure." He followed his wife's orders and went out with their son.

When it was just her and the principal, Quinn sat down and tried to stay calm to talk with the principal in a civilized way. "Principal Sylvester, if you aren't aware of this, my son is adopted but that doesn't mean we treat him less of our own. Your pre-school is one of the best schools in town and there's a reason why we enrolled my son here. We believe that you teach your students proper education. Good manners and right conduct. If you can't control your students, I think it's best if I pull out my son as early as now."

"We're truly sorry for what happened a while ago but we assure you ma'am that both students are receiving equal consequences for what happened. "

"My son was in fear the whole day. He couldn't even go back to class today because of what happened. How will you fix this fear that haunted my son?"

"We've already decided to keep the two students away as much as possible. They were moved to two different sections to avoid unnecessary clashes." The principal explained.

Quinn stood up and leaned to the principal. "If something like this happens again, I'm pulling my son out of your school. Have a good day." She said as she walked out. When she got out of the office, she saw her husband sitting beside the lady with big boobs, talking and laughing with their son sitting on his lap. Quinn went up to them in full rage as she picked her son up. "Hi. He's married. Back off." Quinn said with full sarcasm in her smile as he pulled Sam up and left.

The ride on the way home was quiet. After 5 minutes of silence, Andrew spoke up.

"Mommy."

"Yes, baby?" Quinn said, looking back at her son.

"What's ado... adopted?" He asked Sam looked at Quinn in shock. Is this happening too early?

"Uhm... Where did you hear that?" Sam asked, focusing on the road.

"Billy called me adopted during recess. He told me you're not my mommy and you're not my daddy so I pushed him."

Quinn was shaking in hurt. She can't believe her son was experiencing this at an early age. This shouldn't happen just yet. He was too young to understand.

"Are you my mommy, mommy?" He asked.

Quinn felt like someone just stabbed her in the heart with the words of her son. Luckily, they were already on the driveway of their house. She will have time to breathe if they go out of the house first.

"Baby, why don't we go inside the house for a while? I'm just gonna pick up your sister from Mrs. Delfin." Quinn said as she got out of the car to go to their neighbour.

Sam brought Andrew inside the house. After a while, Quinn was back. Andrew was sitting on the floor, playing with Cooper. Sam was in the kitchen, preparing the burgers he was about to make for lunch. Quinn brought down the sleeping Abby on her crib and went to the kitchen to talk to Sam.

"Do you mind helping me with this?" She said, hugging Sam from behind.

Sam turned around and kissed her on the head. "Of course. Should we tell him now?"

Quinn exhaled, feeling a bit calmer with the touch of her husband. Her head was buried to his chest. "I know my son. He won't stop asking until he gets an answer."

Sam rubbed Quinn's back to calm her more. "We'll do this together, okay? Let's go." He said and Quinn nodded. Hand in hand, they walked to the living room to talk to their son.

"Andrew, if you keep doing pressing your face near Cooper, you're gonna look even more like him." Sam said as Quinn sat on the couch. Sam followed her. "Sit beside Mommy and Daddy."

The boy stood up and went to sit in between Sam and Quinn. "Baby..." Quinn paused. She didn't know how to start this. Sam started it off for her. "Do you remember when you asked why your hair colour's different from me and mommy?"

Andrew just nodded.

"Well, there's a reason for that Andrew. Your...other mom gave you to mommy and I when you were 4 months old." Sam said and Quinn was just so proud of how brave he was.

"I have two mommies?" He asked, looking both at Quinn and Sam.

"Yes, baby. But...your other mom is your real mom." Quinn said, holding on to his hand.

The tears started to form in the little boy's eyes as Quinn's heart slowly breaks. "You're...not my real mom?" His voice was quite shaky.

Quinn started to cry as well. "I'm not, sweetie." She had to tell him the truth. Andrew started to really cry. He was sobbing, actually. The usual ugly crying for little kids but he wasn't just crying over a toy. He was crying about his identity. Quinn had to say something when he started bawling. "Baby...Shhh, listen. I'm still your mommy, okay? I'll always be your mommy." Quinn cried as he wiped away his tears. Sam was on the edge of bawling as well but since he was trying to stay strong, he was holding his tears.

"Look, Andrew. You're too young for these things but when you find out eventually, you might misunderstand what we want to tell you." Sam said.

"Mommy and Daddy loves you, okay? Just as much as we love Abby." Quinn kept saying how much she loves his son.

"Can I just have one mommy? I want you to be my only mommy." Andrew said, embracing his mom.

"Of course, baby. Even if you have two mommies, I'll always be here okay?" Quinn said, kissing the top of his head. "You may not understand everything right now but you will, when you grow up." She added, holding his son close.

"I love you, Mommy." Andrew said, not letting go of his mom.

"I love you, too Andrew. I love you." Quinn said back. "The next time that Billy kid bullies you, just walk away okay?"

"Come here, Andrew." Sam said as the kid sat on his father's lap. "Your intention was good but your method was wrong. You should have just told your teacher about that."

Andrew nodded as his crying slowed down.

"Are you ready to go back to school tomorrow?" Sam asked as he fixed his son's hair.

Andrew nodded once more.

"That's my boy." Sam said, kissing his head. "How about you come with me and help daddy make those burgers for lunch?" Sam told his son to lighten up the mood.

Andrew shook his head and moved over to Quinn. He snuggled in his mother's arms and closed his eyes.

"Well, I guess you're really not a daddy's boy." Sam said but he forgave his son. He was going through a rough time and maybe he just needs his mommy's touch.

"I'll take care of him. Go finish those burgers." Quinn said and smiled at her husband. She was slowly calming down from sobbing.

Sam just smiled at the image of his wife and son, finding comfort in each other. That was enough for him. He leaned forward to kiss Quinn and stood up to make the burgers.

When Sam finished cooking, he saw that Andrew and Quinn fell asleep in each other's arms on the couch. Sam couldn't miss the opportunity so he grabbed his phone and took a picture of the two. He quietly sat beside Quinn and kissed her on the cheek. Suddenly, she woke up.

"Hey..." Quinn said, lifting her head.

"Oh... Hey. I didn't mean to wake you up." Sam apologized as he rubbed Quinn's cheek.

Quinn smiled at him. "It's fine, it's fine." Quinn looked at Andrew who was still sleeping hard. "You leaving for work already?"

"Yeah. I'm actually late. I'll just bring my burger to the office. Your food's at the table." Sam said kissing her cheek again.

"Okay..." Quinn yawned. "I'll just eat when Andrew wakes up. Can you carry him to bed first?" Quinn said.

"Yeah, sure." He replied, carrying his son to the room. Quinn followed shortly after.

Andrew was tucked in their bed when Quinn got in. Sam moved closer to hug her again. "I'm proud of you." He whispered.

"I'm proud of us...but it doesn't end here, you know?" She whispered back.

"Yes...but I'll be there with you till the end remember?" Sam said as he kissed her forehead.

Quinn just smiled and mouthed, "Thank you."

"I'll see you tonight, okay. " Sam said, cupping her face and kissing her on the lips. "I love you."

"I love you too." Quinn said after kissing him back. Sam left after kissing both Andrew and Abby on the head. Quinn noticed Abby waking up a couple of minutes after Sam left. She decided to just bring her out and feed her.

Sam got home about 6 in the evening and they had a nice and normal dinner like nothing happened. Andrew seemed to have forgotten about what happened in the morning. That's what Sam and Quinn thought. Suddenly, they found out that their son was a lot stronger than them. He was too smart and brave enough to understand his true identity. He kept saying he's happy that he has two mommies; at least he'll get 2 birthday gifts from 2 mommies. Sam , then, told him that they don't know where his other mommy is. He frowned at first but then, Andrew said it's okay. He likes having just one mommy.

It was time for bed and Sam went inside the room after a quick shower. Quinn was reading a book when Sam jumped in bed beside her.

"What a day." Sam stretched as he lied down the bed, covering himself in sheets.

"Yeah. Glad that was over." Quinn said as she continued reading.

Sam giggled and faced her. She wasn't reacting so he decided to just say it. "And now..." He said with the most teasing voice. Sam grabbed the book she was reading closed it. He scooted in closer to her.

"What the hell? I was reading, Sam." He said with a quite pissed of face.

Sam giggled again. "You've read enough, babe. How about some Sammy time?" He said, kissing her hand, up to her arm and to her shoulder.

"Ugh." She said, moving her arm away. "You're still not forgiven, Samuel. I still haven't forgotten what you did this morning."

Sam was shocked. He doesn't even remember it. "What did I do, babe?" He asked.

"You don't think I didn't notice you staring at the Principal's secretary's gigantic boobs? Tss!" She hissed as she grabbed her book back from Sam.

Sam laughed out loud. He actually was staring at the boobs but not because he wanted it, it was just too big to be true.

"I bet those aren't even real." She added as Sam laughed out more. "Are my boobs not enough, Sam? Do I have small boobs?!" She asked in curiosity and frustration as she looked at Sam.

Sam couldn't hold it and laughed out more. It was just too funny he can't even answer.

"What's so funny?" She asked again.

"You are!" He replied as he continued laughing more.

"Ugh!" Quinn nearly shouted in so much irritation. She put the book on the bed side table and covered her face in sheets. Sam couldn't stop laughing. He just finds it funny that Quinn was feeling insecure about her boobs.

"Quinn... Come on. Get out of the sheets." He said, tapping her from the sheet.

"No, I won't until you stop laughing!"

Sam laughed more. "Stop acting like a child, babe. Get out and face me."

Quinn didn't respond so Sam went under the sheet and surprised her.

"Get out, Sam!" She said, facing the other way.

Sam giggled a bit more before kissing her on the lips. She was a bit mad but she kissed him back. Sam smiled in between their kisses. When Quinn noticed he was smiling, she pulled back.

"I swear, you're still laughing. I know it!" Quinn exclaimed but before she could move away, Sam kissed her on the lips again then pulled back. "Baby, your boobs are perfect. They're not that big, they're not that small. It's perfect." He smiled at Quinn. "Plus, it fits perfectly in my hand." He said, as he cupped her left boob. Quinn just looked at her. "I may look at other people's breast but only yours will give me that mesmerizing and sexual feeling." He whispered with a smirk as Quinn couldn't help but smile back.

"The next time you stare at other girls' boobs, I'm pulling your eyeballs out and storing them in the fridge." She warned as they both giggled.

"Copy that, boss." Sam said as he kissed her lips. "So... Sammy time?"

Quinn looked at him as she was thinking about it hard. "Hmm... Okay. Sammy time." She replied with a smirk as Sam jumped for joy and went on top of her. A couple of minutes later, their clothes were scattered on the floor and they made love like craving lovers.

2 weeks after the revelation to Andrew, the Evans family were scheduled to go to the wedding of Sam's officemate. Quinn was wearing a beautiful red dress and so was baby Abby. Sam and Andrew were wearing matching tuxedo with red tie. The family wouldn't miss an opportunity like this so Sam brought his camera and asked someone to take a picture of them as a family every now and then.

The ceremony was quite emotional for Quinn, though. While the bride was walking down the aisle, Quinn was imagining herself in a beautiful wedding gown walking with arm hooked with her mother's. It was too late for her to imagine this but she still did. During the exchange of vow, everything felt romantic and emotional that she started tearing up. She was controlling her tears though, 'cause her makeup wasn't waterproofed. She was feeling herself in the shoes of the bride while she walked hand in hand with her new husband as they walked away from the altar, to their car as they headed to the reception area.

All of these were witnessed firsthand in the eyes of Sam Evans.

They got home a bit late that day and everyone was just too tired to move. Andrew and Abby were both already asleep while Quinn washed her face before going to bed. Removing the makeup was quite easy but the hair took quite some time. It was an up do with tons of hair pins to keep the style in place. After what felt like an hour of removing hair pins, she was finally ready for bed. Quinn went out of the bathroom and saw Sam pacing back and forth in the garden, talking to someone over the phone.

Quinn went closer, just before the garden. "Babe, who are you talking to?" Quinn asked.

Sam was surprised when he heard Quinn's voice out of nowhere. He turned around and his eyes obviously just finished a bit of crying. "Uhh..." He said and turned his back to Quinn. "Hey, listen. I'll call you in the morning."

His voice wasn't really loud but Quinn could hear it loud and clear.

"Yeah. I'll call you when I get to the office. Thanks again. Goodnight." He said and hung up the phone. Before turning back to Quinn, he wiped his face to clear his eyes.

"Ready to go to bed?" He asked as he walked closer to her.

"Who was that on the phone?" Quinn was suspicious. Was he hiding something from her?

"That was just... That was just an office mate at the Museum. Just calling in to check on the meeting tomorrow." He said as he held Quinn by the waist and moved her towards the room. "Let's go to sleep."

"Checking in? It's 1:30 in the morning. Why couldn't he just call early tomorrow?" She said, not minding his pushing of her to the room.

"He was just making sure before we forget. Come on, babe. I'm tired. Let's just go to bed." Sam said, kissing Quinn's cheek. He walked to the room first since Quinn has no intentions of moving from that same spot.

Being a girl and being a wife, Quinn was having doubts on Sam's excuses. Obviously, it wasn't an officemate. He said, he'll call the person when he gets to the office. If it were an office mate, why can't they just talk personally and not through phone? Her senses were tingling but she was tired. She'll have tomorrow to worry about those things.

Morning came and Quinn woke up without Sam beside her. She wasn't going to work that day. She was given the day off and just gave the other bakers in the shop the cupcake duties. She stretched for a bit and as her hand moved, she accidentally touched Sam's phone. Suddenly, she remembered about last night. The call. She sat up and looked at Sam's phone. At first, she wanted to open it and check who Sam last called. On the other side of her head, she didn't want to get into Sam's privacy. She was fighting urges until she finally gave in. She grabbed Sam's phone and opened it. His lock screen was so sweet. It was a picture of Quinn and the two kids. She couldn't help but smile. She shrugged it off, remembering her purpose on opening Sam's phone. She unlocked it and thinking where should she start looking. She wanted to shake off the nerves so she stood up and walked around the room just holding the phone. When she was ready, she opened his call log. To her surprise, she saw a name.

Pirate Queen. Who the fuck is this pirate queen? Oh, shit. He was calling a girl.

"What are you doing with my phone?" The voice behind her gave her chills. It's like she froze right then and there. She wanted to stab herself in the heart at that moment. She was caught spying. Quinn didn't move until Sam grabbed his phone.

"You were snooping on my phone. What did you need?" Sam said, his face was completely serious that Quinn got really scared. She's never seen Sam that serious.

"I... I was... Uhmm..." She didn't have any excuse.

"You were what? Checking my calls? My messages?" He asked, raising his phone.

Sam's image wasn't really helping. He was just wearing a towel with wet hair and it made Quinn sweat more. He was so hot but then he was made. She can't drool over her husband's sexiness.

"Sam... I'm... I'm sorry."

"What? Do you think I'm cheating on you?" He said and threw his phone on the bed. He went to his closet to get some clothes to wear. "We've been through this cheating shit before and I'm not sure if until now, you still aren't aware that I love you." He was putting on some clothes while scolding at her wife.

"I'm your wife, Sam. I had the right to be curious." Quinn argued.

"Well, why didn't you ask me?! You should have talked to me but no! You had to snoop into my phone and disrespect my privacy." He said, putting on his shoes.

"Okay, why are you so pissed about this? It's not like you're hiding anything from me, right? Or are you?" She asked, facing Sam who was sitting on the bed.

"I'm not cheating on you, okay?!" He nearly shouted. He was too pissed to stay in the room. He grabbed all his things and went out. "I'll just take Andrew to McDonald's for breakfast. I'll see you tonight." Sam said and closed the door. He picked up his son and kissed his daughter goodbye, leaving Quinn speechless in their bed room.

Evening came as Sam got home. They were still both upset with each other but someone had to speak up if they wanted to fix things. During dinner time, Sam apologized to Quinn for how he acted. Quinn apologized as well and they were finally back on good terms. Quinn decided to just trust her husband.

After dinner, Quinn received a phone call from her mother. They talked about a lot of stuff and even the pictures Quinn sent her mother from the wedding yesterday.

"My grandchildren look so adorable!" Judy kept saying.

Quinn was just giggling. "Andrew loved wearing matching clothes with his dad. He said he looked like Sam when he imitated him, taking pictures."

Judy laughed out loud. "Well, I'm definitely excited to see them again."

"Andrew's asking when you'll be returning to New York. He misses you too." Quinn said.

"I'm not really sure. I have an event next week here in Lima. I'm going to a conference for 3 days." She said but he added something else. "I needed to ask you a favour, though."

"What is it?" She asked.

"I need company, dear. I was hoping you'd come with me next week. Just you and me." Judy said and Quinn was quite confused.

"Mom, its Sam's birthday next week. I can't just leave. Especially without my kids." Quinn explained.

Sam looked at Quinn when he heard his name. "What about my birthday?"

Quinn didn't answer him.

"Come on, Quinn. I need to go to this conference and I need someone with me. All the other participants are bringing their daughters. You'll be back before Sam's birthday." Judy said, pleading for her daughter to come.

Quinn sighed. She didn't want to let her mother down. "When is that conference, anyway?"

"On the 17th-till the 19th. Sam's birthday is on the 21st so you'll be back a day before."

"Where do you want me to leave my kids, then? I can't just leave them." Quinn asked and Sam had to interrupt.

"Quinn, what is it about leaving the kids? Tell me."

"My mom wanted me to come to a conference with her for 3 days next week in Lima." Quinn whispered to her husband.

""Oh, when is it going to be? Before my birthday?"

"Yeah, on the 17th til the 19th."

"Well, you should go. Give it to your mom. She wants to spend some time with you."

Quinn was surprised that he was actually letting her go with her mom. "Are... Are you sure? What about the kids?" She asked.

"I'll worry about them. Leave them to me. Go on. Say yes to your mom."

Quinn was just looking at her husband. She was actually letting this happen. She went back on the phone with her mom. "Uhm... Okay. I guess I'm going."

Her mom squeeked in excitement as she told her everything she needed. When she hung up, Quinn asked Sam if everything's okay.

"Babe, you're not mad at me anymore right? I mean, this isn't you pushing me away right?" She asked.

Sam laughed. "What? No, it's not! I just want you to rest and spend some time with your mother. You've been working hard for the past month. You need a break." Sam said and kissed her on the cheek.

Quinn agreed. She needed time to relax. She needed some me time and Sam was actually giving her the privilege to do so. Sam told her to book a flight when morning comes and Quinn agreed. They spent the rest of the night watching movies until it was bed time. She was actually looking forward to go home the next week.
