Chapter 13: I'm Sorry
Sora sat on his bed, hugging his knees to his chest. He felt absolutely awful for not telling Kairi goodbye, but he wasn't good with goodbyes.
"Hey Sora?" Roxas walked in and sat on his own bed, looking at his twin.
"What?" Sora asked.
"I was just wondering... what happened to your crown necklace?" Roxas asked.
Sora glanced down to see that his necklace was indeed gone.
"Huh. I don't know. I never really noticed that it was gone." Sora said.
"Wow. You're so stupid." Roxas said, rolling his eyes.
"Hey! How am I stupid?" Sora asked.
"You didn't notice that the necklace that you've worn for who-knows-how-long was gone until I mentioned it." Roxas said, smirking.
"You're mean." Sora said, before going over to his desk and pulling out a piece of paper, beginning to write his letter to Kairi.
Kairi cried. And cried. And cried some more. She loved him. And he left her. Without saying goodbye.
"Kairi! There's a letter for you!" Aerith called. She ran down the stairs, grabbed the letter, ran back to her room, and read the letter.
Kairi,
I'm sorry I didn't say goodbye. I'm really bad at those. Like, really bad. No kidding.
Rox pointed out earlier that I don't have my crown necklace on. Do you know where it went? I never even realized it was gone.
-Sora
Kairi looked down, seeing the crown necklace, looked back at the letter, and smiled. Though it was a short letter, Kairi was thankful for it. It was from Sora, after all.
"Kairi, Xion's here!" Kairi's mom called. Wow. Xion showed up just after the letter from Sora. Or was she staring at the letter for an hour or something?
"Hey Xion!" Kairi said, coming down the stairs.
"Hey, Kai." She said, putting her winter coat on the hook.
"Is that a letter from Sora?" Xion asked, pointing at Kairi's hand. She looked at it and blinked. She carried that downstairs?
Wow, I'm weird today. Kairi thought.
"Yep. You wanna read it?" Xion nodded. Kairi handed it to her and she read it. At the end, she looked at her oddly.
"What?" Kairi asked.
"That's your necklace. You're wearing it right now. So why did he mention his?" Xion asked.
"Uh... hehe..." Kairi said sheepishly, rubbing the back of her neck like Sora did.
"Kairi." Xion said sternly, putting her hands on her hips.
"I found it in mine and Sora's secret cave, and I really liked it, and it was the day before the move, so I kinda... took it." Kairi said.
"Kairi! You have to give it back!" Xion exclaimed.
"No I don't!" Kairi snapped.
"Yes you do! It's Sora's, not yours!" Xion yelled.
"I don't care!" Kairi yelled back stubbornly.
"Kairi! Give it back!" Xion ordered.
"No way!" Kairi yelled back angrily. What Xion did next shocked her.
Xion walked behind Kairi, grabbed the necklace, unhooked it, and took off down Kairi's driveway with it, not even bothering to put her coat back on or even grab it.
"Xion! Get back here!" Kairi yelled, running out the door, not grabbing her coat either.
"Give it back!" Kairi yelled.
"I will give it back! To Sora!" Xion yelled. She ran into her house and locked the door. Kairi ran up and began banging on the door. After a few minutes of doing so, she fell to her knees.
Suddenly, Xion's door opened and Xion leaped over Kairi's head before landing on the ground and taking off towards Kairi's house again.
Kairi got up, stunned, before taking off after her black-haired friend. Xion opened her door, grabbed her coat, and took off running again. Kairi did the same thing, having realized how cold it really was outside.
"Xion! Give it back to me!" Kairi yelled.
"No! I'm giving it back to Sora!" Xion yelled, running towards the train station. That's when Kairi noticed the backpack she had.
"What do you think you're doing?!" Kairi exclaimed.
"I'm going to Twilight Town!" Xion said, running in the doors. Kairi chased her until she bought her ticket and ran towards the train.
"Miss, you can't go past this point unless you buy a ticket." The lady said. Kairi pulled out her wallet, bought a ticket, and followed Xion onto the train. Unlucky for her, her seat was far away from Xion's.
"What did I get myself into?" Kairi said to herself.
Xion's POV
I couldn't believe Kairi. She stole Sora's necklace! How dare she?
I also couldn't believe myself. I... what kind of friend was I? I had a crush on one of my best friends' crush. And I was jealous of her.
Yes, I have a crush on Sora. I thought that I liked Roxas, but in all reality... I've never met him.
Roxas and I became pen-pals a few years ago. Our teachers had a program so that we could have a pen-pal in a different city. Roxas and I were paired up and we've been like best friends ever since.
And here I was, on a train, hoping to steal Kairi's crush from her. I'm so horrible. I hate it.
I gave up, sighing, before leaning my head against the wall and sleeping.
I woke up to see everyone getting up. I grabbed my stuff and hopped off the train, running towards the address that I knew to be Roxas'.
"Where is it... where is it... THERE!" I yelled, looking crazy to all people walking by. I ran up and knocked on the door.
"Uh... who are you?" A blonde spiky-haired boy said to me.
"I'm Xion." I said.
"Xion? Really? It's me, Roxas!" He said. I jumped up and wrapped my arms around his neck.
"Roxas! It's so nice to see you! I need to see Sora though, okay? Is he home?" I asked quickly, remembering that Kairi was still following me and she knew where the twins lived.
"Yeah. I'll show you to his room." Roxas said, seeming a little confused, but closed the door and led me to Sora's room.
"Sora!" I yelled as I saw him sitting on his bed doing homework.
"Xion?" He yelped in shock. I jumped at him and hugged him.
"Hi! I decided to drop something off to you." I said. I felt despicable, but I was going to do it anyways.
I pulled the crown necklace out of my pocket and handed it to him.
"Xion... where did you get this?" He asked.
"Kairi stole it from you. I decided to give it back to you, so I got my parents' permission and here I am!" I said.
"Kairi... stole it from me?" Sora said, as if he didn't believe it.
"Sora! Xion's here and..." Kairi stopped her sentence as she saw Sora holding the necklace and me sitting next to him. She froze.
"Sora, I'm-" Kairi started.
"Did you really steal this from me?" He asked quietly.
"Sora, I-" Kairi started again.
"Just answer the question." Sora said quietly.
"Yes. But I just-"
"Kairi, just go away." I said. Kairi froze and looked at Sora, who had his head down. She turned around and walked away down the stairs just after speaking.
"I'm sorry, Sora."
