Chapter 15: Back to Twilight Town
Kairi sobbed into her pillow. She had been doing so since she got home from Twilight Town.
"Kairi, are you okay?" Her mother asked through the door.
"No!" Kairi cried.
"Why won't you let me in?" She asked.
"Because I don't want to!"
"Kairi, I want to help you!"
"Unless you can make Xion move across the world from Sora then you can't!"
"Kairi, let me in." Kairi sighed and walked to the door, opening it before returning her face to the pillow.
"What happened in Twilight Town?" Kairi's mother asked.
"Well... i-it started h-here..." Kairi sniffled before telling her mother of how Xion found out about her stealing Sora's necklace to how she saw the two kissing.
"Oh, Kairi I'm so sorry!" She said, hugging Kairi. Kairi cried harder. The only person she ever loved... the person who helped her to believe in love, kissed another girl in front of her. One of her best friends, too.
"Is there anything I can do to help?" Aerith asked.
"No. I just want Sora back. I want the crew back. I want my life back." Kairi said. Aerith thought this over, and made her decision.
She was moving back to Twilight Town.
Sora was shocked, to say the least. How could Xion like him? She barely knew him! But... he said he wouldn't be mad at her. He pulled away from the kiss and stared at her.
"You... like me?" Sora asked.
"Yeah... Do you... like me?" Xion asked, looking at him hopefully.
Sora didn't know how to answer the question. He was certain that he loved Kairi, but she stole one of his favorite things. Xion was just a friend. He wasn't mad at Kairi. He might not have known why she took it... but he was still in love with her.
"I'm sorry Xion, but... I love Kairi. And I know that she stole something from me, but I didn't really give her a chance to explain. I hope we can still be friends." Sora said. Xion sighed sadly, but nodded.
"I have to head home." Xion said. She had been staying in the guest room of Roxas and Sora's house.
"Alright, Xion." Sora said as Xion went to the guest room and gathered up her stuff. She saw a box with a sticker that said "do not open until Christmas!" on it. She carefully put the box in her bag and carried all of her stuff to the train station before getting on and riding it back to Destiny Islands.
Kairi cried into her pillow the instant she woke up every day. She cried so hard, she never noticed that her mother kept coming into her room and packing her stuff into boxes. Pretty soon, nothing was in her room except for the stuff that was in there when they had moved into the house.
"Kairi... wake up." Aerith said. Kairi opened her eyes and yawned.
"Yeah? Is it Christmas?" She asked.
"No. But we're going to move back to Twilight Town today." Aerith said.
"We are? But I'm not packed." She said, looking around and seeing that her stuff was indeed gone.
"Where's my stuff?" Kairi asked.
"I shipped it off to our old house."
"When did you do that?" Kairi asked.
"While you were crying- shoot." Aerith said, seeing realization hit Kairi like a train wreck as she started to cry again.
"Kairi, do you want to say goodbye to your friends here?" Aerith asked.
"Yeah... I-I'll go now." She sniffed and got up, putting on her coat and boots before running off towards Riku's house, since he lived nearest. She knocked on the door and waited.
"Kairi?" Riku asked as he opened the door. Kairi hugged him, and he stared at her in confusion before hugging her back.
"I'm moving today. Back to Twilight Town." She said.
"You are?" Riku asked, surprised. Kairi nodded.
"I'll miss you." Kairi said.
"I'll miss you too." Riku said.
After Riku's house, Kairi went to Terra's house, then Axel's house. She was knocking on Vanitas' door now.
"Kairi?" Kairi hugged him, as she had hugged the others.
"I'm moving today." She said. Vanitas was shocked.
"Today?" He questioned. She nodded. A small smile grew on his face.
"Back to Twilight Town?" A small smile grew on her face as well as she nodded.
"Back to Twilight Town." She said in confirmation.
"Hey, watch Sora for me. Make sure he doesn't get into too much trouble." Vanitas said. Kairi hid the sadness in her voice and smiled.
"Of course. Bye, Vani." She said.
"Bye, Kairi." He said as she ran off towards her last friend's house: Xion's.
Upon reaching Xion's house, Kairi knocked on the door, handed Xion a letter, and ran back to her home. She walked with her mom to the train station before getting on and heading for Twilight Town.
Kairi would miss the gang, but the crew were her friends first. She fit in with them better. That was where she belonged. The sixth member. And to make everything better, she had taught herself to not believe in love anymore after Vanitas' house.
Everything was as it should be. Even though deep down, Kairi's heart ached.
Xion read the letter that Kairi had given her.
Xion,
I hope your long distance relationship with Sora works out. I taught myself not to believe in love again and I'll be okay. No hard feelings for anything. I'm moving today, so I decided to give you this letter. I'm going back to Twilight Town to be with the crew. Keep the gang in check for me, okay?
-Kairi
Xion gaped at the letter. She had to explain to Kairi that she wasn't dating Sora! Xion jumped off the couch and ran for the train station, praying to catch her before she boarded.
As she entered the train station, she looked around rapidly, seeing Kairi and her mother through a window of the train. She ran towards the train, but it was already pulling out, and Kairi wouldn't look at her. She was too late.
Suddenly, Xion had an idea. She pulled out her phone and texted Kairi as fast as she could. Little did she know, Kairi had thrown her phone away.
Kairi got off the train with her mother and immediately ran to her old house, dragging her mom behind her. Once they reached the house, Kairi breathed in with a sigh of relief. This was home. Instantly she ran to her old room, seeing it look just like it used to. She couldn't be happier.
"Mom, can I go over to Namine's house?" She asked.
"Sure." Kairi ran out the door like lightning. She ran so fast that she ran into somebody.
"Sorry, I wasn't watching where I was-" Kairi froze. No. Oh no.
"Kairi?!"
"H-hi, Sora."
