Chapter 19: This is the End
Natasha laid on the bed, its soft blankets outlining her figure. She thought about all the crap happening around her. She thought about home, and about where she was now as she stared at the gold tinted ceiling. There were a few things she never thought she would ever be in her life time: Terrified, Lost, Weak. She happened to be all of those things at once at the time being, add confused, angry, and lonely to the list and you got one messed up spy. She groaned and sat up, knowing today would be the day she saw Loki. It was two days since she arrived at Asgard and she wanted to go home desperately, it surprised her how homesick she felt. But Natasha had one thing left to do and that was to confront Loki. She had been sending most of her time in this guest room thinking about him. His image paralyzed her other thoughts, his image brought forth the strongest feelings. First she would be angry, and then sadness would overtake her. She had done more crying in the last two days then the rest of her life. This wall she built up around her, of the strongest materials possible, that kept in these emotions broke. It all just kind of poured out of her. This morning she stood up and her eyes were finally dry. She had prepared herself last night and this morning for the confrontation, and was able to patch up her wall as best as she could. Natasha started to head to the doorway when a knock came. She answered it and in front of her stood a young girl; she looked to be about the same age as the nurses.
"I am here to take you to the dungeon; you requested to speak to one of the prisoners earlier, yes?" Natasha nodded her reply and followed her down flights of stairs and along some damp and darkened hallways. The further you got down the castle the less glimmer and gold could be seen, but still there was a cleanliness that coated everything. Eventually the girl stopped and nodded down a hallway. It was lined with cells, all the same shape and size. Natasha walked along it alone, the beasts within the cells growled and yelled at her but she kept her face straight, her composure in check. At the end she knew the next cell would be the one she had been looking for. He would be in there. She took a deep breath and walked into his sight. Loki was slouched at the back of the cell but stood the moment he saw her.
"Natasha…" He whispered just loud enough for her, but only her to hear. She glared but could not hold the anger in her face for long. He walked to the very edge of the cell and put his hands on golden glow separating him and her. An electric charge went through him but he kept his palms against it, as if trying to get through.
"I'm sorry." He murmured. I'm sorry were two words she never thought he would say. He did not, or was not, apologising for attempting to destroy earth, no he was apologising for hurting her.
"Why," was all he got back in return. The sounds of the hallway seemed to turn off, or maybe everyone was just listening.
"Why what?" He retorted, "Why did I take you? Why did I hurt you? Why did I rescue you? Why did I sacrifice my freedom for you?" His voice was an intense whisper, pricing the silence like a well sharpened blade.
"Everything." The word came out with a sigh; she didn't know how to begin.
"Because I love you. I didn't know this feeling existed before you. Maybe it isn't love, but it is something." She looked away from his pleading face, pleading to her. She couldn't respond to this, she couldn't love. The emotion wasn't built into her.
"Loki," she said, barely meeting his eyes. "This isn't love, love is both ways, it isn't this. Love cannot blossom, even be planted between two murderers. We are killers we can't be lovers." He spun away kicking the chair seated behind him before turning back to her.
"We don't have to follow those rules!" His voice was louder, now it just seemed to overwhelm her.
"You're in a cage!" She shouted back. "You are prisoner and I am going back to earth. I have to forget you." This seemed to break him; he fell into a heap on the floor. "I'm sorry." Natasha said, it was her turn to apologise for hurting him. "If things were different, if times were different, maybe this would have worked. I will remember you, even if I try to forgot, I will remember you." With that she turned away, tears once again pricked the edges of her eyes. Little crystal thorns. Loki sat on the floor looking down at the reflection of himself, her voice still ringing in his ears.
"I will come for you." He said to himself. "Even the ugliest and cruelest caged animal needs to come out eventually.
I will come."
Well thank you so much for sticking with me through this entire thing, I barely expected 10 people to enjoy this let alone all of you. This is basically it, only a small epilogue I will post very soon. I am planning on doing a sequel of this after taking place after Thor 2. Once again thanks a ton! You do not know how much even the smallest review saying great job has made my day a thousand times better, especially on the first time I tried writing a FanFiction. See you in the New Year with a new story. Happy writing and reading!
