On that happy note (hehe) I just cannot believe how much you guys have followed, favorited, and reviewed! There muse be +40 something reviews, over 150 followers and something like 70 favorites? I just can't believe how awesome and supportive you all are, I mean, there have only been 3 chapters! You guys are just the best and I love you all!
So, a little bit of a more exciting chapter coming up...the big opening contact chapter! I know that right now the story probably doesn't seem like it's rated M, but don't worry;) there'll be some sexy times later I promise. Maybe in a few upcoming chapters perhaps? :OOO
Just a heads up there will be a few lines of dialogue from the movie in this chapter, but that's IT, I promise. I normally hate copying text from movies but I felt that this was an exception.
Well I guess I'll stop blabbering now, so please enjoy a nice 4,000 word Chapter 4!
Disclaimer: I do not own anything from Star Trek, not the characters or the storyline. I only own Sadie.
Chapter 4
Sadie soon felt her shock and confusion upon obtaining unfamiliar information suddenly disintegrate as she quickly became lost in a game that only lasted moments, and proceeded without words.
He stood tall, dark, and dangerous only a mere few feet away from her, an aurora of power and arrogance completely surrounding him. His face still held obvious distress, but it became less dramatic as Sadie watched him focus his anxious energy into finally acknowledging her.
She watched sullenly as his cold eyes raked over her figure, studying every detail as though it were his obvious right. Her eyes narrowed, her disapproval apparent at his wandering eyes, but he was to deep in his silent analysis to even notice.
As he studied her further, Sadie somehow convinced herself that she couldn't stand to look away from his eyes and study him in return without admitting her defeat, however, with her hazel gaze fully locked upon his blue one, she noticed his eyes involuntarily soften before completely losing their coldness all together.
There were several things happening inside his head in that moment, Sadie could tell, but she could only access one of his many thoughts as only his eyes were left unprotected. In them, Sadie could clearly see the look of undoubted desire that he was poorly concealing.
Though Sadie had only experienced the emotion once as part of her training to understand her own human behavior, she immediately became uncomfortable under his hardened gaze, but while her cautiousness warded her away from him, another sort of familiarity towards him rose several questions in her mind.
Black hair, pale skin, cold blue eyes. So beautiful...
Forgetting about her childish want to win a game that was already lost, she slowly took a step back only to come in contact with a warm hand sliding across her shoulder from the opposite side, efficiently bringing her closer to its host. The wound on her shoulder stung, the blood seeping through her black Star Fleet uniform dress, but the hand didn't seem to mind the oozing liquid coating it.
She frowned at the sight of seeing her own blood, it being something that was usually kept inside her body. On very rare occasion had her opponent drawn blood from her, and she quickly felt her hatred for the Klingons grow, them not being a welcome opponent worthy of drawing her blood.
She didn't bother to turn around upon feeling the hand, she knew it was Kirk. She also didn't want to deal with any more flirtatious attempts from the Captain; the hand on her shoulder was already pressing it's luck by settling there. Had it been an opportune moment, Sadie would have easily took the Captain by his intruding hand and flipped him down to the ground; however, she knew if Marcus were here, that he would openly remind her that there was a time and place for such things.
Sadie glared threateningly at the hand as it squeezed her shoulder slightly, as if trying to provide her comfort, but she only cringed at the pressure, the blood slowly dripping down the length of her arm until gathering the palm of her hand. With a not-so-gentle action, Sadie simply plucked the hand off of her shoulder and offered it back to the Captain, her frustration clearly apparent to him even without her turning around.
"On account of Christopher Pike, my friend, I accept your surrender," She heard Kirk say dangerously, brushing aside her rejection. Sadie looked up at him upon hearing the tone of his voice and saw someone completely different than the smirking, arrogant man she had seen earlier that day; the Kirk that was portrayed now was an angry one, with smoldering eyes and a clenched jaw. He threateningly took a step forward, silently challenging the terrorist to resist.
Taking another glance from the man across her, she saw that John shared the same amount of anger as the Captain, not bothering to hide the burning fury that was directed right at Kirk.
He quickly regained his composure, however, his face returning to its previous emotionless trance at Kirk's consent to his surrender; though, a small hint of a taunting smirk could be recognized behind his aurora of authority which he openly expressed towards the Captain.
Turning to her right, Sadie saw that both Commander Spock and his woman companion seemed lost at the sudden loss of conversation, obviously unable to follow what was going on through only the emotions being passed back and forth.
Studying them further, Sadie wasn't surprised to see that Commander Spock's expression hadn't changed; however, the woman next to him had paled considerably, probably still shaken up at the gun being shot out of The Commander's hands, barely missing his chest.
A loud WHACK! suddenly sent her whirling around to find Kirk letting out loud shouts of frustration as he barreled his fists into the wanted man.
Though Sadie wasn't in any way affected by Kirk's sudden tantrum, she felt her jaw growing slack as she quickly realized how little it seemed to be affecting John. With every punch Kirk seemed to grow more and more out of breath, while John's expression only stretched into a look of both astonishment and delight; even in contrast to the violence towards his face, it still remained unscathed and bloodless which only made Sadie's curiosity deepen further.
"Captain!" The dark-haired woman shouted pleadingly at Kirk.
Upon hearing her yell Kirk reluctantly controlled himself, but refused to turn and look at her, choosing instead to leave his clenched fists at his side while again trying to intimidate John by staring him down.
"Captain." She heard John say mockingly, an invisible strand of darkness seemingly dripping from his mouth upon opening it.
With that, Kirk spun angrily on his heels rudely pushing past her and Commander Spock muttering a gruff "Cuff him" over his shoulder. Sadie turned to watch him step a good distance away from the group before picking up a rock and hurling it into the unknown. She quickly faced front when she saw Kirk retreat to the ground, reluctant to show any pity towards him.
The woman beside her then obediently retrieved a pair of cuffs from her back pocket at Kirk's demand, but faltered slightly on frozen limbs at the deathly glare suddenly focused on her from across the way.
Sadie frowned at her timidness, her being a Star Fleet officer, but decided against saying anything, mostly because of the darkened stare Commander Spock was giving her.
She inwardly rolled her eyes at the Vulcan before reaching out to take the cuffs from the woman only to have her hands pushed away.
"Hey! What's your-"
"I do not believe you are personally qualified to arrest a man with whom you weren't assigned," The Commander said with a raised brow, while Sadie glowered up at him. He may have said it expressionless, but his constant regard for protocol was enough to make her instantly dislike him.
"No need to get pushy, eyebrows, I'm on your side," Sadie shot back, gesturing to the Federation symbol resting on her dress. "Besides, if anyone here is qualified, it's me."
"If by 'eyebrows' are you referring-" he started, but was interrupted by the woman, who had been intently watching her throughout the argument, suddenly allow Sadie to take the cuffs from her.
If Commander Spock was annoyed, which he clearly was, he certainly did a great job of hiding it; though, Sadie still sent him a triumphant smirk.
"Uhura I do not believe-"
"Spock," the woman, Uhura, said, her voice lowering to barely meet a whisper, "She's involved with The Admiral, meaning her position is subsequently higher than ours, just let it go," she urged.
The Commander studied her with apprehension as if trying to decide whether he believed his woman companion or not, but said nothing more, instead deciding to refer to his com with much reluctance while Uhura headed towards the direction of her Captain.
With one last glower at The Commander, Sadie spun on her heels with a huff, only to come into contact with a tantalizing grin that forced her out of the pleasure of her small victory.
Cold blue eyes...
Refusing to repeat that of the woman Uhura, Sadie boldly stepped forward to match the grin with a glare; unfortunately, this only seemed to please John more to Sadie's annoyance, his perfect white teeth suddenly appearing behind his lips, sharply glistening to match that of his overall evil demeanor.
She was very uneasy about being this close to him, she didn't try to deny it, but she easily contained her sudden discomfort by tightening her grip on the metal cuffs that she held in her left hand as to avoid having them bloodied by using her right one.
"Hands." Sadie ordered clearly, causing her annoyance to grow at the fact that it took effort for her words not to shake upon leaving her mouth.
His hands, strong and delicate...a most valuable possession.
Without making a sound, John gracefully lifted his wrists out in front of him not bothering to hide the blistering stare he held her with, obviously taking the opportunity to study her in greater detail at her closeness. Sadie, however, had seen enough; though before she could stop to think, her words suddenly tumbled over themselves as if racing to see which ones would reach her lips first.
"I expected a fight from you, even one only armed with words; it's not in your nature to easily comply, so what is it about those torpedoes that forced you to do so?" Sadie said, efficiently securing the cuffs around his outstretched wrists as she spoke, taking note of how soft his skin was under her fingertips at their accidental contact.
She heard John chuckle softly to himself as if hiding some sort of secret, but to Sadie's frustration, easily evaded her question.
"Your quick wit is not only refreshing, but amusing. Tell me girl, if it is not in my nature to easily comply then what is?" He asked silkily. A part of her wanted to melt upon hearing his voice, but the part of her was too small for her to pay any mind it.
Sadie could practically hear Marcus in her head drawling "Encourage him kid and I'll wear you out" but quickly commanded her inner self to swat him away into the inky blackness of her self conscious.
"Everyone's nature is different, as yours is both complicated and internally unreachable; however, from just observing, your open arrogance and coldness towards people speak much about not just your overall nature, but yourself as well," Sadie said carefully, her unease quickly fading due to her sudden boost of confidence.
Not bothering to be gentle, Sadie moved to grip his upper arm with, ignoring how muscled it was, and attempted to lead him back to Kirk and Co's shuttle; hers being unfortunately trashed by the Klingon Patrol group.
She quickly grew alarmed at the sudden shudder that she felt under her hand upon her touching him, but subdued her nervousness into settling her right hand, which now had a large amount of dried blood on it, resting atop her gun that was strapped to the black belt at her waist, which returned her to a more relaxed state of mind.
Sadie mentally readied herself for a snide response, but was surprised to get none. She looked up at the terrorist, only because he stood slightly taller than she did, and raised a brow, silently taunting him into a battle she willingly welcomed. Sadie enjoyed the battles she shared with Marcus, she usually won most of them, and was openly eager to engage in whatever kind of combat, verbal or physical, the terrorist had to offer.
To her disappointment, however, John didn't seem to want to try his luck; instead he remained silent for a moment, as if pondering how to react while the rough dirt and gravel crunched under both of their shoes as they neared the shuttle.
"You are correct about my nature being unreachable, especially to the likes of weak-minded imbeciles, but do not forget, little girl, that my observations towards you speak likely ten times louder than yours do towards me; face it girl, you are restless. You long for battle, while your own arrogance towards yourself blinds you, resulting in your ignorance about the way things work," John said suddenly, his voice easily dominating her want to growl and interrupt him. He chuckled, as if enjoying the playful banter, but Sadie was not amused.
She felt both shocked, angry, and humiliated all at the same time which was incredibly new and strange for her, resulting in adding another emotion for her to try and keep under control.
It was then she realized that she hated to lose.
Never in her life had she ever been shot down in a conversation, and John had easily done so with seemingly the littlest of efforts! She was enraged, but her composure remained, much to her later relief, saving her dignity in the process.
The wind seemed to bite at them as they arrived at the small space shuttle, and before Sadie could turn to the wanted man and snap at him with the gracefulness she lacked at the moment, she was interrupted by two men emerging from the entrance of the ship acknowledging the presence both Sadie and John, and also that of their captain who suddenly had appeared behind them, Uhura and Commander Spock following in pursuit.
"Sir, the shuttle was slightly damaged during the fight as to where the engine is lacking the support it needs to function properly," one of the men said, the hair on his face resembling that of a bear. Sadie struggled not to laugh aloud at the appearance of the hairy man; she had never seen a person purposefully try to look scraggly and awkward!
"Shit," Came Kirk's gruff response, "Is there anything we can use to provide the support it needs?"
"Captain, if I may-" Sadie heard Commander Spock start, but was immediately interrupted.
"Not now Spock," Kirk said with a sigh as if he'd said those words a thousand times, "Would it work if the both of you stood below and operated on the engine manually?"
"Captain, the shuttle is small, as is the engine space, if we tried to operate on it while we were in motion there is no telling what would happen to the people incarcerated," Commander Spock intervened quickly, as if to avoid being cut off by Kirk once again.
Sadie frowned and wondered why Kirk didn't just call for another shuttle to be called down, but decided to keep quiet and patiently wait for a chance to intervene. Instead she moved to finally acknowledge the wound on her shoulder, but it wasn't until she moved her left hand when she realized she was still clutching John's upper arm.
She felt her eyes widen at her realization, and she quickly pulled her hand away as if it were placed inside a beehive before an odd warming sensation suddenly began dancing across her cheeks.
Sadie felt her eyebrows narrow further and moved both hands to her cheeks, suddenly finding them very warm. She involuntarily looked up at John in silent question, but was met with a taunting look dancing in his big blue eyes as if heavily amused.
Sadie was unfamiliar with the feeling of humility, but at the moment, she had a pretty good idea what it felt like, and she instantly decided that she disliked it greatly.
"Spock they'll be down there for like 10 minutes at the most, nothing bad's going to happen, they're just going to keep the engine functioning until we get back to the Enterprise," Kirk said lowering his voice as if to ease the tension between the two cadets who exchanged a pair of nervous looks at their Captain's orders.
"But Captain-" Uhura tried.
"That's an order. Now get into position so we can get off this goddamned planet," Kirk said stiffly, obviously done with the matter. Sadie couldn't help but roll her eyes at his lack of efficient planning, but remembered that this was James Kirk. The Kirk, in complete contrast to his first officer, who had no respect for regulation, acting only on instinct. Therefore, Sadie knew that the day of his death would be on his own actions, and his alone.
"Uh sir...if we may ask for your assistance with the engine-?" One of the cadets stammered, his face smooth and soft looking compared to the other. Kirk sighed.
"Alright. Just a second," he said gruffly, turning away from them to finally acknowledge both herself and his prisoner. Kirk barely glanced at the man beside her as if he couldn't even stand the sight of him, but as his eyes traveled downwards the tension in his face relaxed slightly upon recognizing her, moving to give an anxious grin.
"Hello. We've met," Kirk said charmingly. There it is.
"Briefly," Sadie confirmed. "Marcus sent me to assist you; unfortunately my own ship has been broken beyond repair so I would graciously ask that I be granted access to yours so that I may contact him" she explained further. Kirk nodded.
"That's right, you're the one who works with him, though your name evades me Miss-?" Kirk said almost teasingly.
"I never gave it, but it's Sadie," Sadie grumbled. Kirk smiled as if greatly pleased, which made her frown in discomfort. She suddenly felt herself jump slightly as she felt John stiffen beside her. She involuntarily reached for her gun as a warning gesture for him not to cause trouble, but she somehow knew he wouldn't.
Upon trying to use her right hand, she discovered the amount of dried blood on her hand and she looked down at it distastefully. Kirk noticed.
"You're hurt," he said as if he were sincerely concerned. He moved his hand as if to touch her, but she gently pushed his hand away afraid that if she were to be too rough she wouldn't be allowed to board.
"It's nothing I can't handle," Sadie said simply.
"But-"
"Your crew is waiting," Sadie snapped, her frustration growing at Kirk's determination. He stared wide eyed at her, as if shocked that she'd bit back at him.
"Right. Come on aboard then," Kirk muttered, disappointed, before turning to enter the ship.
Sadie exhaled the minute he left, quickly noticing John relax beside her, his arms having a slight spasm from straining them.
Upon studying him further, she looked up to find him once again staring down at her intently.
"Find what you were looking for?" Sadie asked, rolling her eyes at him before moving to board the shuttle.
She suddenly gasped in surprise when she felt the cold hand grip her wounded shoulder, firmly holding her from moving any further.
With wide eyes, Sadie felt her heart quicken slightly as John closed the distance between them, his shackled hand still gripping her arm squeezing it slightly which caused her to wince. His eyes had suddenly become a smoldering pit, silencing whatever shouts she wanted to utter.
"I may enjoy your wit, but you do not ever disrespect me girl," he growled down at her; Sadie was too shocked to quickly react. "I am dominate over you in every way and I will not tolerate you thinking any different. If I want to study you, then you will not say anything to tell me otherwise"
Sadie blinked her heart pounding harshly against her chest. Even when she was with Marcus, who scolded her daily, she had never felt another person's words have as much affect on her than John's did.
Her mouth suddenly coming back to life, Sadie managed to get out a strangled "Get off me!" before grabbing the base of his cuffs and shoving him roughly away, before grabbing the gun from her belt and latching herself onto his arm once again, her gun digging into the base of what she hoped was his rib cage.
With her gaze firmly locked upon him Sadie was confused to find his statue returned to its normal relaxed and almost lazy state. She inwardly let out a shaky breath, already cursing herself for showing how frantic he had made her.
"Perhaps Marcus has damaged you more than I realized," he murmured to her darkly, all traces of his anger gone.
Refusing to react, she simply led the wanted man aboard the ship where Commander Spock, Kirk, and Uhura were sitting ready to take off, obviously not knowing of what had happened just outside the metal door on account of being preoccupied with their own conversations.
"What the hell is that supposed to mean? Damaged?" Sadie thought, bitterly looking up at John, dozens of questions quickly filling her head to the brim to the point of concern, the most prominent of them being about the infamous torpedoes.
Little did she know, obviously, that the terrorist had his own thoughts about the ordeal.
Marcus had indeed damaged her greatly, starting with that of her name. Sadie.
"Belittling." He spat in his mind. It was as if Marcus had left his own permanent mark upon her, as well as allowing her to build up a wall of stubbornness tall enough to rival up against his; this alone made him thirst for ultimate revenge. He had damaged her.
"But not to worry," he thought smugly again moving his gaze to study her once more.
"That will change."
Good god that was a nightmare to try and write! Again I am so sorry about the long wait, but it was just so HARD!
So finally some contact between them! So Sadie only recognizes Khan for the specific details she remembers from her dreams, and Khan obviously sees her again, but is angered mostly at Marcus for teaching her things she would have never been introduced to if he had been able to sneak away with her.
And than there's the drama with the storyline and the torpedoes...basically Sadie is going to be introduced to things that are incredibly new to her, including her relationship with Khan.
Anyways, I really hope it was worth the wait! Next chapter will have lots more of it!
The contact between both Sadie and Khan is just so difficult to try and perfect only because of the several different scenarios playing out in my mind.
PLEASE let me know if you like the way I'm taking it right now, REVIEWS ARE VERY MUCH APPRECIATED!
I promise the next chapter will be be posted soon!
See you guys soon! (Hopefully)
