Spike, though not a heavy reader like his adoptive sister/mother/guardian, Twilight, was completely absorbed in the books that Fantasma doesn't read most of the time. Even if he discovered that the world was nearly destroyed by the Black Beast, that fear was remedied with the Six Heroes appearance. He definitely liked Valkenhayn, the Hero who only used his fists and lycanthropy to fight, while the others used Nox Nyctores. He imagined himself having Valkenhayn's similar powers, but instead of being a wolf, he turned into a dragon. Drakonthropy, would be the word... if it existed. Suddenly, Fantasma came in.
"Oh hey Fantasma!" Spike greeted the dark haired youth,"Have you read the story of the Six Heroes?"
The teen found himself smiling warmly to his question. Even if everyone knew and talked about the Six Heroes (especially Tsubaki), he liked his childhood enticement in the Six Heroes, as if they were comic book heroes.
"Of course, my favorite is probably Mitsuyoshi," he responded,"Even if he was a cat, he also has an awesome power hidden in that eyepatch and he's the only able to resist the mental side-effects of the Nox Nyctores."
Or it could have been possible that Musashi had no emotional distortions.
"What's a Nox Nyctores?" Spike asked with a furrowed brow.
"They're powerful weapons forged from souls."
Spike seemed to be scared from the concept of using human life to create a weapon. Fantasma seemed to understand that it was pretty cruel too.
"Yeah... but they made it in order to defeat the Black Beast. Sometimes sacrifices have to be made for the greater good you know?"
"That's true..." Spike said,"It's like the time I had to run away from the teenage dragons. They would teach me to become a better dragon, but I sacrificed their teachings for my friendship."
He chuckled a bit from his memory.
"Perhaps friendship is the greater good." said Fantasma.
With that, he gently patted Spike's shoulder, causing him to smile a bit.
"Hey Fantasma, what's Seithr?"
"Seithr is basically kind of like a magical substance that is invisible to humans. Small doses are harmless, but large doses can cause someone to go crazy or even die."
Spike let out an "Oh!", realizing something.
"Perhaps that's why humans live in high altitude areas," Fantasma nodded to his answer.
"Correct."
The green haired boy looked out the window. Despite all that he has learned, the grim past that humanity faced, a normal afternoon sky was in sight. This sky made Spike feel hopeful.
"Hey Fantasma, do you think they'll find a way to make the rest of the Earth inhabitable again?" Spike wondered.
The teen walked up to his right and gazed at the blue expanse. Thanks to the selfless act of the heroes, they gave humanity something they hoped for: a tomorrow, a future. The future that Fantasma hoped is for Earth to be back in its former state pre-Black Beast, w/o any Black Beast summoning.
"I hope so. I remembered there was one,"
The dragon child's eyes sparkled from hearing it, excited to know how to save this world. Fantasma looked at his enchanted expression and smiled softly.
"Really? What is it?"
The teen walked up to his laptop and searched for an article on the Rettenjou. He signaled Spike to come to him by reeling his head back briefly. The boy walked up to him and looked at the screen. He was enticed with this interesting technology that his friend had. Fantasma loaded up an article on the Nox Nyctores. No images were shown, aside from the Six Heroes art. He scrolled down until he reached the paragraph about Rettenjou.
"Rettenjou is an Anti-Nox Nyctores. No one knows where it is at the moment. It was said that it could wipe out the functionality of Seithr, but the NOL doesn't want Seithr to disappear yet as it's used in almost everything we do."
Fantasma let out his hand and a medium length sword was instantly summoned through black magic circles with purple hues.
"Whoa!" Spike was just enchanted from his magic trick,"How did you do that?"
"I summoned my sword using Ars Magus. But to use Ars Magus, Seithr is required."
He made the sword disappear into the aether and looked at the young kid with a simple stare.
"So Spike, since you don't really have any alternatives in living in this world, are you prepared to do the Entrance Exam preps?"
He was right. He needed someone to help him live in this world, and who else but Fantasma? Where will he go without any direction? Spike had a bit of a saddened face. He'd be away from his friend if he was going to prepare for this exam. And after hearing from Fantasma how strict the NOL is, this added to his anxiety.
But if he wanted to survive in this world, then he had to go through hardships to toughen up. It was like that time he had to take care of a multitude of pets, left by his friends. He only did just for the sake of getting gems, but he never took full responsibility. Soon, he basically bribed people to do his responsibilities with his gems received from his friends as payment, but it would often lead to mishaps. Ultimately, he learned his lesson, right when that bunny from Tartarus was about to ruin his life by letting Fluttershy notice him on the train in the Crystal Empire. When he realized this, the pets soon calmed down and decided to give Spike some mercy.
Noticing his sad face, Fantasma heard a ringing noise from his door.
"Well, I'll give you time to think. I have to get to class."
Fantasma ran to the door and quickly shut the door behind him as he got out, leaving Spike alone to contemplate. After only 5 minutes, he lay down on the bed and fell asleep. Spike slept soundly.
He found himself in the cave where the Diamond Dogs were. He looked at his own hands again. They were still soft flesh, but the Diamond Dogs that were immediately summoned were the same ones. Spike was still in child form, but through the things he learned from this universe, he imagined himself to be like Fantasma. He outstretched his hand and formed a broadsword with green crystal-like flames heating it up. The Diamond Dogs got their own clubs to combat the young child. With quick dexterity, he held the sword the other way and swung at their clubs with powerful precision and speed. In an instant, the clubs were cut easily. The Diamond Dogs resorted to their muscly paws this time, but Spike utilized the powerful fire to push him toward the group of dogs with a jump kick. The dogs were knocked aside like bowling pins as the green haired boy accomplished a strike.
When he skidded to a halt, he saw Rarity, still a pony, but in a princess dress. She was hidden behind iron bars and screamed for help from a hero. As soon as he approached the bars, Rarity approached held on to the bars and saw the dragon kid. His hair color and similar hairstyle reminded her of her favorite dragon friend.
"Spikey, is that you darling?" she said in her elegant accent.
"Yes Rarity, it's me. I'm a human due to this strange transfer spell that Twilight struck on me,"
But wait a minute. If she's a pony and he was fighting Diamond Dogs, that must mean he's in his universe. Why is he still a human?
"There's no time to explain about your state darling, right now-"
Suddenly, a skeletal hand shot out from underneath Spike, launching him away from his damsel. While airborne, he managed to do a short flip before landing on the ground on his two feet. He turned his head to his right and saw his friend. His dark hair and emerald green eyes were revealed. Now he wore a black trench coat that reached to his knees with blue jeans, red sneakers, and a white dress shirt with a purple tie. On the teen's hands were two short swords, glowing with a black and purple aura.
"Fantasma?" Spike said, confused as to why he would attack him.
"Spike? Spike?!"
The dragon kid woke up, returning to reality. Fantasma was waking him up by shaking him around.
"Spike, wake up!" he shouted.
The kid woke up from his slumber in a panic. He looked around and realized that he was back in Fantasma's dorm. He was sweating from that strange dream he had. It felt like it was as if it was predicting the future.
"Wha...? How long was I asleep?" he said as he wiped off his drool.
"Well, you slept for only 5 hours."
It was already night time. The skies were darker, but no clouds were ruining the night. The moon was up high and radiated a dim blue light. Spike usually remembered that the night skies above Equestria were usually purple, and he remembered the moon's craters that formed an equine head when Nightmare Moon was imprisoned. Though he felt that this night sky felt similar to the one in Equestria, he finally noticed the bit of pentacles floating up high in the sky. They were all white, glowing with a faint yellow glow. The sight was breathtaking for this little dragon, but a common sight for the teenager.
"Whoa!" he turned to Fantasma,"Hey Fantasma, what's with the floating magic circles in the sky?"
Fantasma wiped his brow from the sweat he exuded from training. He shrugged, not really knowing why there were pentacles floating up high.
"I don't really know, but my mom and dad just tell me that they have no real harm. Probably just for show?" he shrugged again after saying his last sentence.
Spike noticed that his body heat is rather high, as if he went for a sort of work out of some sort.
"Hey Fantasma, was your last class gym or something?"
The teen shook his head.
"It was actually swordplay classes. I'm one of the stronger ones, but I'm always beaten by Jin and Kagura,"
The kid's eyes sparkled as if he saw a knight paragon right in front of him, even if he clearly said that Jin and Kagura always beat him. He dreamed of becoming a knight sometimes when he grew up, just like Twilight's brother, Shining Armor. While there's way of going home at the moment, Spike had finally decided he should really enroll here.
"Hey," he said to the teen. The dark haired man looked at him,"It's time I gave you my answer. I'm sure I want to enroll in this academy... Before we somehow find a way back to my home, I want to at least learn how to be as cool as you," Spike said with both fists clenched. He remembered the time he was Humdrum, the wily sidekick used for comic relief, but this time, he's actually willing to become stronger. Even if he knew that he didn't need to be a super powered person to have super friends, he still had to find something to do until he finds a way back home.
The teen ruffled his hair as if he was a dog and smiled with a reassuring nod.
"Well then, guess we're going on an outing tomorrow,"
A/N: So the reason I didn't work on this for a long time was because I really couldn't find a way to continue the fic. I thought I was going to take a break, but I realized I had other stuff to deal with and forgot about my fanfics. Right now, I'm really interested in Magi and Fire Emblem at the moment, and Blazblue Chronophantasma got released in Japan, so it kind of sparked my interest a bit. As for the last few MLP episodes, I loved them, but my favorite one is probably going to be the Power Ponies and Bats. Spike as a super hero was kind of cute, and I liked the lesson he learned, which inspired me to work on this fic again. It may take a long time to update this because I'm currently focusing on my Magi fics, but if I have no idea what to write on my Magi fics atm, then I guess I'll kill time writing more chapters.
Also, Twilight is an alicorn during this fiction, which explains his memory of Humdrum.
So yeah, as usual, thanks for reading this and leave a review if you wish. Peace out, y'all.
