Chapter 9

"Don't act like you haven't gained feelings for her, Sokka," the Kyoshi warrior mumbled. "I can see it in your eyes when you talk about her." She looked down into her lap and sighed. "It's the same look you used to give me…"

He scoffed, stirring honey into the teacup for her. "You are over thinking the situation, Suki. What Azula and I have is strictly business…so to speak." He shook his head and handed the cup to her.

She rolled her eyes, but accepted the warm drink from him. "Don't lie to me, Sokka. You heard what Mai said the other night. Azula does what she wants to get what she wants. Are you actually going to believe a conniving, deceitful, evil princess that tried to kill you!"

"She's not like that anymore!"

"How do you know?!" She said louder. "How do you know, Sokka? I don't want you getting hurt because the person you believed in was a lie."

"I'm not believing in a lie, I'm believing in myself and my own intellect."

"Forget your intellect, Sokka!" She set her cup of tea down and stood up. "Just have common sense! Are you going to believe her or your own girlfriend that you've known for years?! Dammit, Sokka, whose side are you on?"

He sighed, trying to calm his own self down. "I'm on no one's side, Suki."

She didn't answer him. Instead, her brown eyes stared sadly into his blue ones, trying to understand what was going through his head. Shaking her head, she finally spoke. "Fine. Leave. Go help your little princess. I'm sure she would love your company right about now."

"What are you saying?"

"I'm telling you to leave, Sokka!" her voice was getting louder. "Leave me alone, leave me."

Sokka narrowed his eyes at her. "Suki…I'm sorry…" he felt his own voice trail off again. He had nothing to say to her. "Azula's not as bad as you think she is. She has changed for the good, and I'm going to keep believing that, and if you wanna hate me for that, then go ahead." Turning away from her, he placed his hand on the doorknob and sighed. "She's really not that bad of person anymore, Suki." With those last words, he opened the door and left the Kyoshi warrior to her thoughts.

Azula sighed inwardly as she watched her brother and the waterbender bicker over "pointless" subjects, she would say. She stared at her own hands and grunted, wishing she still had her bending. That damn avatar just had to take my bending away. Rolling her eyes, she stared into the fireplace flames, just wishing she could reach out and bend the flames to her own will.

The room slightly glowed in a florescent reddish orange as their shadows danced on the walls. She saw her element, the blue fire; it greedily licked through the wood her brother had placed into the fireplace.

"Be like that! Fuck off. Leave me alone! I don't need you anyway!" Katara yelled. Azula groaned, turning her attention back towards the arguing ex couple. "Look, if you don't want to help that's fine; I'll just go on my own!" The waterbender walked back into the living with the firebender hot on her trail.

"I never said I didn't want to help, Katara. She hurt me too, do you just think I'm going to sit back and do nothing?!" Azula smirked at her brother boldness.

She rolled her eyes at him. "Just forget it, Zuko, it doesn't even matter anymore." She turned her back on him and started to walk forward.

He reached out and quickly grabbed at her wrist, pulling her back into him. "I'm not going to forget anything." She grunted, roughly pulling her arm away from the firebender. Zuko raised one of his eyebrows, but allowed her to pull away from him. "If all of these things you've said are true—"

"They are," she commented.

"—then Mai must believe that we're doing something behind her back," the firelord continued. "What do you do think we should do?"

It was now Azula's turn to roll her own eyes. "You guys are so pathetically oblivious. The simplest thing to do would be to not see each other and move on with your petty lives as firelord and whatever you are," she frowned at Katara, who mimicked her disgusted frown. "It will be like some sort of cover a disguise that only you know. While she sees you and Zuzu as enemies, you will actually be working together to stop her all together. A brilliant plan if I don't say so myself."

Katara scoffed. "It's….decent. But how do you know Mai won't see through it."

Azula smirked evilly. "Trust me, as long as you play the part, Mai will fall for anything."

Zuko sighed. "We would have to tell the others about this." Katara nodded her head in agreement. He turned his attention towards his younger sister. "Azula, this plan…are you sure it will work."

"When have I ever failed…well, don't answer that," she corrected herself quickly. "I'm sure there will be some…faults in this plan, but as long as you follow the script, Zuko, everything shall go as planned."

"Script?" he questioned.

"Yes, you'll have to love Mai, show affection. Without that, she'll see through your act and quickly realize that you're playing her emotions," she stood up and walked towards him. "And once that happens—"

"It won't," Katara said. "As long as Zuko follows his act, he'll be fine. It shouldn't be too hard to love her," she kept her attention on the ex-princess; "he's done it before…"

Azula chuckled softly, surprising the duo. "As long as his feelings for someone else don't get in the way, yes, everything will be perfect," she purred. "No fights, bickering, or arguing, Zuko." The firelord frowned. "Don't mess this up, brother, because if you do, the whole plan will be over, and I will not be able to help you out of this one."

"I know, Azula," he grunted.

"Loving Mai shouldn't be too hard, should it, Zuzu?" she teased. "I'm sure you'll do just fine. Doing it again won't hurt." She smirked at the ex-couple. "It shouldn't be too hard at all."
