Chapter 4- Another girl By Wild Belle

I lose sleep, I lose sleep.
Too much I've seen.
And I weep, yes, I weep,
Cut your lips upon her body.

Didn't I, didn't I, didn't I, didn't I treat you right?

If I was so gone, why didn't you say?
You keep me waiting by.
On the floor, you know I'd crawl,
Just to change your mind.
If I lock the door just to stall you for a moment,
I won't get you, even if I tried.

Didn't I, didn't I, didn't I, didn't I treat you right?

I'm just another girl, another one.
I'm just another girl, another one.
I'm just another girl, just another one,
I'm just another girl, looking for love.

I woke up to the right yawning sun stretching through the closed curtains. My eyes fluttered open and I was immediately confused. Where was I?

A warm pair of arms was wrapped around my waist, pulling me in to a tight embrace against a bare chest. My eyes scanned the room for evidence of where I was. The beige ceiling, the row of bookshelves, the candles…of course. Damon Salvatore.

Turning my head carefully around to catch a glimpse of him, I pulled the covers up over my body a bit more. I smiled to myself. Best. Customer. Ever.

"Shut up." I whispered out loud to the voice in my head, but I laughed at the same time. There was no denying it. Damon truly was.

I settled down, just for a few more seconds, just to embrace the feel of his arms around my body. What are you doing?

The voice in my head startled me, making me jump slightly, wobbling the whole water bed.

You've known this guy for one night and you're acting like you're married. Think about it, how many other girls has he had in this bed?

My good mood instantly slipped away. It vanished, like my whole body had been cleaned of my good mood, like a dirty dish. It was right though. I was just another girl.

Trying my best not to wobble the bed, I slipped under Damon's arms and grabbed a blanket from the foot of his bed, wrapping it around myself like a cocoon.

Travelling down the spiral stairs again, I was thinking about the money. I wanted to leave without waking him, but I still needed my money. $300 of it. $300.

I got to the bottom and trotted over to collect my clothes. But there they were, in a neat folded up pile, with my boots laid beside it. On top of my pile of clothes was the money. Surely not. Maybe the $300 dollars had been a joke. But we did make a deal on it. Snatching up the dough in my hands, I began to vigorously count it all, checking each individual were real notes.

My eye widened just has much as my mouth. I actually own £300?

I began to dance and jump and spin and just bounce ecstatically but quietly.

"Oh my God, oh my God, oh my GOD!" I mouthed. Even if I wasn't trying to be silent, I doubt I'd be able to talk anyway; I was just too amazed.

I pulled on my clothes, tucked the money safely in to my inside jacket pocket and searched for a pen and paper. I wrote:

To Damon,

Thank you for the great night and the money. I had fun. You know where I'll be if you ever 'need' me again. Hopefully we can see each other again soon.

Elena x

I put the note visibly on his desk and left without a single glace back. As soon as I left the penthouse, my mood had dropped again. Why did I leave a note for? It's like he'll care.

You've got that right. Just another girl, remember?

I guessed it would be around half nine in the morning right now. I was walking 'home' since I didn't want to spend any of my £300 dollars on a taxi or a bus yet. I couldn't wait to tell Caroline, but then again, seeing Caroline would mean seeing Conner, and God knows what Conner will do.

I got a few nasty looks from shop keepers looking at me through the windows and passer-by's who were probably out to buy the newspaper early or something.

All of a sudden, a screeching siren wailed nearby. Before I could turn my head to see where it was, the police car came zooming passed, even going way over the speed limit. It was headed towards the cemetery.

Curious? Why don't you follow?

I did what the voice told me to, and I paced quicker towards the cemetery. As I grew closer to it, I could see bright yellow police tape wrapped around the entrance gate of the cemetery and a wall of policemen blocking all the other entrances.

"Excuse me," I called to the nearest policewomen. "What happened here?" I asked, a bit distraught.

The policewomen took one look at me and sneered in disgust.

"Nothing you need to worry about." I looked at her name badge; Nancy. Her arms folded across her puffed out chest, and she stared at me with hawk-eyes.

"I'm sorry, I'm just curious-"

"It's like I said; people like you don't need to worry about my class of people's problems. Run along, we are extremely busy." Nancy spat those words like a snake's venom. She turned away from me, but rage boiled in my body.

Roughly gripping her shoulder and spinning her round to face me, I felt my face turn crimson.

"Listen here, you snobby bitch, I asked you one simple question, and you're refusing to give me an answer. Let me ask you again' what happened here? Oh, I'm sorry, was that question too hard for a puny brain like yours…Nancy?"

Now Nancy was red…then she was green…then she was purple. Her face switched between the three.

"How dare you? I am a fellow member of the law enforcement, what gives you the right to waltz in and insult me? Besides, it's rich coming from a pathetic tart such as yourself-"

"Jeremy?" I called, blanking Nancy and ducking under the police.

"Oi! Get back here!" But I still blanked her. I was focused on Jeremy.

"Jeremy, what are you-"

"I'm sorry, ma'am, but you can't be here, please leave." Said Caroline's mother, Liz. I recognised her immediately. Caroline and Liz haven't spoken for so many years. When Liz found out Caroline was hooker, Liz never spoke to her again. That's as much as I know though. Caroline always gets upset when I ask about it. I could tell though that Liz was never really liked me. She blames me for how her daughter turned out.

Jeremy, looked a little relieved to see me, but a bit frightened and very pale.

"No, this is my brother, Jeremy. I'm, sorry to interrupt, Miss Forbes." I held out my hand, and she took it with a forced smile, but she soon went back to looking serious.

"You! How dare you disobey me, I-"

"My God, Nancy, must you raise your voice like that?" Complained Liz.

Nancy's face instantly straightened, and she stood up straight, I could see now that Nancy was a rather chubby lady, maybe in her 30's. The buttons on her shirts looked as if they would pop off at any moment, her greasy black hair was pulled in to a short pony tail and her nose was rather crooked, as if it had been broken once or twice. I fat face was full of all kinds of spots.

"My apologies, Sheriff, but this girl disobeyed my rules, crossed the police line, insulted me, and-"

"I don't care! I came to ask what happened, and I saw my brother so I came over."

"Elena, you didn't have to-" Jeremy spoke for this first time, but was cut off.

"Shut up, you are being treated as a suspect, young man, so only speak when spoken to!" Nancy roared, stepping over to Jeremy, attempting to get in his face, but she was a whole head smaller than him.

"Don't speak to my brother like that! And being treated as a suspect? For what, what happened?"

"There's been a murder-Nancy, get out of the boy's face- Here in the cemetery. I body of a man…decapitated…"

My mouth was agape and now Liz looked white from just describing it.

"Someone was killed? But what's this got to do with you, Jer?"

"I'm the one who discovered the scene and the body. I was on my way to work and I thought I visit Jenna, mum, and dad and I just found…this." He pointed towards the gravestones, also blocked off by police tape, and I saw they were splattered with blood, and next to them, a zipped up body bag, and where the head should be was nothing. I shuddered at the thought of a decapitated corpse.

"There, now you know what happened, get back to being a whore, you skank!" Nancy screamed, but then it all happened to fast.

Jeremy blurred past me and Nancy was knocked to the floor. My brother was on top of the porky women repeatedly punching her in the face with both fists. Danger was written across his face and I saw no mercy in his eyes.

"Jeremy!" I wailed, flinging my arms around him and yanking him as hard I could off of her, but he continued, blood dripping from his knuckles, more blood pouring from Nancy's face. Liz helped me pull him, and more officers poured in, yanking Jeremy finally off a crying Nancy.

Jeremy's face was still merciless. He roared with rage.

"DON'T EVER INSULT MY SISTER EVER AGAIN, YOU FAT PIG!"

I was speechless. My mouth was as wide as a hippo's; I was frozen on the spot on, switching my gaze between the unconscious Nancy and my rage-filled brother.

Suddenly, I heard the 'click' of some handcuffs, and I whipped my head around to see Jeremy being vigorously pulled and forced in to some small cuffs which barley fit around his muscular wrists.

"Hey, what are you doing?" I asked, outraged. They can't arrest Jeremy, he didn't do anything! Are you sure about that?

But I ignored the voice. I tried to run to Jeremy, but a strong pair of arms held me back.

"No, let go, that's my brother, you can't take him!"

"He just attacked a member of the police department, he is being arrested Miss Gilbert weather you like it or not! Have a good day!" Liz spat at me. The strong arms which restrained me began to push me forward, but I watched Jeremy as he struggled.

"Elena! Elena-hey! Don't worry, I'll be fine!"

"Jeremy! Don't worry, I-I'll bail you out!"

I choked snort came from behind me.

"You have to have money to bail someone." I turned to see Nancy, surrounded by other police officers and maybe some paramedics, holding a blood stained tissue to her nose.

"Fuck you!" And with that, I pounced on her, ripping out of the grasp the arms had on me. She tumbled to the floor again, but before I had time to hit her, to hurt her, someone caught my arm mid-punch, pulling me from the ground, and throwing me over their shoulder.

"My apologies, officers, Elena is a good friend of mine, I know how she is." I instantly stopped struggling and went limp in fright on the persons shoulder. It was Conner. How did he know I was here?

"Elena has problems you see, anger management. She can't always control herself. It's been worse since the death of her parents."

Fresh rage boiled deep in the bit of my stomach, and I wiggled free of his shoulder. But I knew better than to run or to argue back. It would only make matters worse.

"Well, since she didn't physically punch or harm Nancy in anyway, I'll let her off with a warning. Try to control her more." Liz huffed, not even making eye-contact with me.

"Of course, Officer." Conner roughly grasped my fore-arm and pulled past the police line and dragged me to the car.

I pulled out of his hold and clambered in to the passenger seat. I could even smell how angry he was right now. As soon as he got in and shut the door, his hand lunged for my throat. Damn it. He caught me off guard.

"You fucking stupid cow! Where the fuck were you last night, you dirty slag? You better have a lot of money for me if you think you can stay the night away from me."

Real fear hit me for the first time in a few hours. He'd been smoking crack again. I could smell the sickly metallic stench.

"I-I'm sorry." I choked as his hand tightened around my neck. Darkly, his dull eyes narrowed, and he slowly released, but he didn't settle down in his seat, Conner just continued to gaze. They seemed to soften though.

"I'm sorry, baby," He muttered, slowly stroking my cheek softly. "You know I love you."

Lying twat. Conner seemed to have a split personality. One of them was violent and mean, the other, uncomfortable and creepily kind. I didn't fall for his 'kindness' though. I wasn't stupid.

He budged up closer, his warm alcohol breath on my neck. One hand was still stroking my cheek and the other cupped the back of my head. Tears threatened to spill but I had to stay strong. He only did this to me because he knew I was weak. Caroline wasn't. She was strong, beautiful and always stood up to Conner. She protected me when Conner did this…but Caroline wasn't here now.

"You know what I want." He whispered evilly. There was nothing I could do. I nodded simply, blinking back tears, and swallowing the lump in my throat.

I knew exactly what he wanted.
