CHAPTER 5

CHLOE POV

The bright sun is shining in my face and I squint turning away with my face scrunched up. I lie there for a second and then reach over to my phone picking it up and looking at it. I unlock the screen and go to my contacts scrolling down slowly. I stop on one name and smile a little. Erin. Tossing my phone on the bed I throw my legs over the edge standing up. My blonde hair falls over my shoulders and I slip my feet into some slippers. I pull my hoodie over my head and pull out my hair noticing that both of the girl's doors are open. I travel into the kitchen and see Lily sitting at the table.

"Morning." I say with my raspy morning voice, I head to the fridge.

"Hey Chloe." Lily says with a smile. She is such a morning person. I watch her put down the book she was reading and look at me.

Sliding into a chair I reply, "Where is Charlotte?" She points upstairs and I look up at the ceiling.

"Oh no. Not again." I stand up grabbing a pot and putting water in it. The red light on the stove blinks on as I turn on the burner and wait for the water to boil. I hear Lily get up and go down the hallway. When she comes back she is wearing long pajama pants instead of shorts.

"What time did you get in?" I ask Lily and she comes over and leans on the counter beside me.

"I got in at eleven."

"Did you guys have fun?"

"Yeah and Grace is super excited about the concert." I had texted her details so she could be ready and she couldn't stop thanking me.

"Good. I'm glad you guys are getting closer." The bubbles in the pot start to speed up so I take off the pot and shut off the burner. I slide over to the cupboard grabbing 3 mugs; Lily walks over to me with the hot chocolate packets already in hand. We rip them open and poured them in the cups stirring the mixture. I grab two cups and Lil grabs the other as we head up.

TIME SKIP

Her face is relaxed and she is curled up in a little ball with the sun light streaming through the open sun roof. I smile lightly at her looking so peaceful. We sit down on the couch and put the hot chocolate on the coffee table in front of us. I can see that she has brought some coffee up with her. I shake her shoulder a little and she wakes up. Shielding her eyes from the sun she puts the pillow on her head. "How ya doing?" She grunts at us and peaks out from the pillow blinking to get used to the sunlight. "We brought you hot chocolate." I continue.

Slowly sitting up she looks at us with her normal morning face. She is like me, she is in no way a morning person, she might even be worse than me. Normally she won't talk for 15 minutes at least. I hand her the hot chocolate and she hugs the warm mug close to her. "I couldn't sleep."" She mumbles taking a drink.

"Oh." Lily replies simply. "Are you sure that's it?"

"I-I…. I just miss him." She says with a tear running down her cheek. We set all our mugs on the table and Lily and I cover her with a huge hug. Charlotte starts to sob, shuddering from the intensity. No matter how hard she tries to pretend she doesn't have strong emotions, she does. Charlotte has always done that though, ever since I met her in the 3rd grade she has always collected feelings and just held them in until she basically exploded. It's hard to see her so bad but I'm always there for her when she does finally break open. Lily came along in 7th grade when she moved to our small town from London. She grew up in the city so when she came to our school she didn't exactly fit in but she ended up sitting with us at lunch one day because we were sitting at an empty table, just me and Char. We all connected instantly and ever since then we have been best friends till the end.

We were both at home when her dad went into the hospital but she rushed out of the house so fast that neither of us knew anything. We woke up and she was gone which wasn't like her. She normally didn't leave the house till at least ten unless she has an appointment or work but she didn't say anything. We tried to call her but she didn't pick up. We finally called her mom to ask if she knew and she broke it to us. By the time we got Cole to come pick us up it was late afternoon and we went to the desk to ask about him but she said that he was in critical condition and unless we were family we couldn't go in. We traveled up to the floor and sat in the waiting room until I saw Mrs. Tucker come down the hallway with Charlotte in her arms. They were both sobbing and when we saw them we rushed forward. That day was crazy. The doctors had kicked them out of the room because Mr. Tucker's heart beat had stopped and they had to try and get it going again.

When the doctor came out again he told us that Mr. Tucker was gone and Charlotte and her mom both broke into sobs again. We took them both home and took them to a bed. We thought it was better if Charlotte and her mom were together so we left Charlotte at her parents' house and went home. We left a note by her phone telling her to call if they need anything and we headed home. It was one of the worst days of my life, I couldn't stand to see Charlotte so broken and right now, it's like it just happened again, it's horrible to watch.

We sat together on the couch and hugged each other while Charlotte cried and cried. When she calmed down she said she felt a little better and she slowly got up collecting herself in a blanket and reaching down for her 2 cups. She takes a sip from the one that's steaming and went to the stairs. She had vanished down stairs and we just sat there until we heard the shower turn on. Getting up, we followed her down the stairs and sat in the living room watching TV until she was done. She finally appeared with wet hair and clean clothes. She sat on the couch and snuggled up to my side and I wrapped my arm around her. "Are you going to be okay at the concert tonight?"

She nodded, "maybe it will help." I nodded and gave her a comforting squeeze. Lily and I looked at each other and shrugged both knowing what the other was thinking. I hope it will help too.
