I never meant to wither, I wanted to be tall
Like a fool, I left the river
And watched my branches fall
Old and thirsty, I longed for the flood to come back around
To the cactus in the valley that's about to crumble down
And wipe the mark of sadness from our face
Show me that your love will never change
If my yesterday's a disgrace
Tell me that you still recall my name

I stood in her front yard taking single, deep breaths.
Finally, getting the courage necessary to move, I walk to the front door. I knocked on the door three times.
No answer.
I got a little anxious and started to bang on the door. As if I could knock it down. Just as my hand started to hurt and my arm ache, the door opened. A maid came into view, her face bland and a bit sad.
''Can. I. Help. You.'' her voice was cold.
I took a deep breath, ''yes, can I speak to Kim, please.''
''I'm sorry, but the Crawford's aren't accepting any visitors at-''
''Please, I need to talk to my Kim, please.'' I pleaded.
She gave at me uneasy and a bit confused look. That's when I realized I called her ''my Kim.'' And it felt good. Really good. I forgot that and focused on the problem at hand.
''I don't know...''
''Please... please...''
She moved aside and I rushed inside. I ran up the stairs and down the hall to Kim's room. When I stopped I realized how quiet the house was. A pen could drop and the house would hear. I put my ear to the door and just like the rest of the house it was silent. I put my hand on the knob and opened it slowly. The room's cleaned like she hadn't been in here for ages. This worries me.
I look around the room and see that it feel like she died instead of her baby. I walked across the room to the bathroom. The door's closed and locked, but its deathly silent on the other side. I put my ear to the door and hear silent sniffing.
''K-Kim... you okay?'' I say.
My voice sounds so weak and shaky. I sigh and try to calm down.
''Kim, please talk to me,'' I sounded better this time.
I heard shuffling and then the click of the door unlock. Slowly, Grace's face came into view. She was crying, I could tell by her bloodshot eyes and runny makeup. She sniffled and stayed silent. Seeing her like this was hard, she's usually strong-willed and long-suffering like Kim. I took a step closer to her and pulled her into a tight hug. She mumbled something into my chest.
''What?''
I loosened my grip on her to see her face, ''I said that Kim is the bar downtown...''
I looked at her in her eyes.
''You love her don't you?'' she asked, still in my arms.
I leaned down and kissed her softly on her cheek. Grace started to cry again so I hugged her, again. I tried to calm her, but she was pretty shaken up by something. And it wasn't just the news of Kim's miscarriage.
''What exactly happened?'' I inquired genuinely curious.
I let go of her and she walked to the sink and hopped on it.
''I took her for her regular check-up, '' Grace wiped her eyes with tissue, ''everything was fine until the doctor looked at some files.''
She sighed, ''he said something was wrong and he needed to run a few tests. He said it was normal and there was nothing to worry about. That though only made Kim tense up. I told her it was nothing and she would be alright. Then, suddenly the doctor rushed in and said we needed to rush her to the ER. Something was wrong with the baby.''
I moved in doorway and leaned against the frame.
''When we got to hospital we got separated. So I waited in the lobby when my mom and dad came. Stuff happened and they left.''
''What kind of stuff?'' I asked.
''That's not the point, the point is that Kim is in some bar drinking herself to death or hooking up with guy or she could... or she could be-''
''Grace, calm down,'' I tried to chill her out, ''I'll get Kim, you just worry about you?''
She nodded and sighed deeply. I smiled and turned to leave when Grace's voice stopped me.
''Hey, Jack?''
I turned to face her, now in the middle of Kim's room.
''Be careful with her... she's fragile right now...''
I said nothing. My look said it all.
/.
I walked into a popular bar smack in the middle of Seaford. It was Cherish.
Hm, ironic.
The first thing I saw when walked in my blonde beauty. She was sitting at the bar, hunched over. I walked closer and gathered my thoughts. I was a foot away when the right words came to me. I sighed and sat down in the seat beside her. She didn't look up at me or say anything. In her hands was a shots glass and it was empty.
''A water please.''
The bartender looked at me funny for a second then reached down and placed at water bottle on top of a blood-red napkin. I stared at her intently. She was wearing a black leather jacket, dark jeans and black combat boots. Her hair was in loose curls and looked amazing. I smiled to myself.
''Kim... please come with me...''
I sounded really desperate, but I could really care less. She didn't respond or move. That's when I realized that most likely she wasn't going to move anytime soon. So a somewhat good idea popped into my head.
''Alright, you asked for it.''
I grabbed her by her waist and lifted her up out the seat.
''Jack! JACK! Put me DOWN!'' she screamed at me.
It was nice to hear her voice, but the only bad thing was that she was kicking and screaming at me. I carried her out the bar and towards my car. I set her down by the passenger door and opened it. She shot daggers at me, but all I did is smile. I walked over to the driver side and got in. I turned the car on and it roared, but Kim didn't budge.
''Come on, Kim,'' I implored.
Rolling her eyes for a brief moment, she got in the seat and slammed the door close.
''I don't want to go home... I don't want their or anyone else's pity, alright?'' her tone was harsh.
I just looked at her with a shock face. Kim's arms are crossed against her chest, eye fixated on the windshield. I put the car in drive and put my foot on the gas.
/.
When we got to our neighborhood, I made sure to pass her house. When we got to mine I pulled in the driveway and turned to car off. I looked to Kim who was still in the same expression when we left the bar. Annoyed, I got out of the car and walked around to her side.
''Come-''
''Move,'' Kim harshly said as she pushed me aside.
I rolled my eyes and closed the door. When I turned around Kim was staring at me with a bit of a softer expression than before.
''Do you know what's like?'' she asked.
My eyebrows came together in confusion, ''what what's like?''
''To lose someone...''
Just as she finished the last word a flood of memories like bricks came. Every person that has left me in my childhood. From the one who hurt me emotionally. And the one's who hurt my physically. I've seen some things that could put me in a mental hospital. From rape to murder. It was when I stood up for myself and the weak around me when things got worse. Things seemed to never go my way until I found my mom, again.
''Yes... yes I have. But that didn't mean I gave up on everything and everyone.''
''I'm not giving up on everyone, Jack. It's just Brody would tell me how imperfect I was and how he's stuck with me... I guess he has nothing to worry about now.''
Her arms were at her side now and we were having one of our staring contest. Except, it was playful or cute. I felt like she was trying to transfer her pain to me by staring intently into my eyes. Just as it was starting to work I took a step forward and pulled her close. She came willingly, wrapping her arms around me. Surprisingly, no tears are shed.
''You're gonna be fine Kim and you know why?''
She looked up at me and I looked down at her.
''Cause you have a friend, excuse me, best friend to help you through this.'' I said with a smile.
She smiled so bright and hugged me again. My previous smile faded a little.
How can I help her if I'm barely all together myself?
