First Kiss
The Doctor was in the TARDIS library, idly flipping through the pages of a book he didn't really have any interest in. He supposed it did have some nice pictures, but it wasn't distracting enough. He threw the book onto a pile beside him and ran his hand through his hair. He'd tried dissembling parts of the TARDIS, which she defiantly didn't appreciate, he'd walked around the halls of his ship for near enough three hours and he attempted to watch some films. Nothing was distracting him, nothing was working.
He was making his way to the Console Room, not knowing what else to do. He slumped down on the Jump Seat and put his feet up on the Console. Fiddling with his Sonic Screwdriver, he thought back on the day, what had happened and who'd they met. They were meant to be in New York during one of Elvis' shows. But the Doctor, being the Doctor, landed in the wrong time and place. They ended up in London during 1953, the year of Queen Elizabeth's Coronation. They soon found out about people being taken away due to their… facelessness.
After a quick, unpleasant trip to the Connolly household, the Doctor found where the victims were being taken, while Rose paid a visit to Mr Magpie, a local shop owner who'd been giving away TV boxes for a fiver. After all, all this had started once he'd begun practically giving his TV's away.
The Doctor had been caught trying to find the faceless people. He was taken to the Chief Inspector and was soon trying to help them find out what was going on with the people.
"Found another one, Sir," said a very built man who walked through the door of the Detective Inspector's office, a figure following him with a blanket over their head. The Doctor frowned when he saw the figure- well, more specifically, the figures clothes. The blanket was covering their head and torso, leaving their bottom half exposed. The figure was wearing the exact same pink skirt that Rose was wearing, and the same heels. No English woman in their right mind would wear that sort of clothing in 1953, the Doctor thought. A great pit of worry was beginning to bubble at the bottom of his stomache as he dropped the papers he was holding onto the desk.
The man who'd walked in removed the blanket, the Doctor's fears were true. Standing in front of him was a faceless form of Rose Tyler. His Rose Tyler, standing completely motionless in front of him, unaware he was even there, most likely. "Rose," he breathed, moving towards her, horror struck across his face.
"You know her?" the Detective Inspector asked.
"Know her?" the Doctor repeated. "She…" What was she to him? He knew what they were, but he didn't really have a term for other people to use. He supposed, in human terms 'girlfriend' maybe?
The two continued talking in the background, their words meaningless to him. He brought a hand up to her featureless cheek, as if willing her face to reappear to him again, give her tongue in the teeth signature smile and tell him everything was fine.
As the presence of the Detective and the new man slowly came back to him, there was a single sentence that nearly left him heartbroken. Rage filled him as the words ran through his mind. "They did what?" he asked coldly. "They left her where?"
The Detective shook his head and shrugged as the Doctor kept his eyes on Rose. "In the street," the Detective replied.
"In the street," the Doctor repeated acidly. "They left her in the street. They took her face and just chucked her out and left her in the street. And as a result, that makes things... simple. Very, very simple. Do you know why?" he asked. Not waiting for an answer, he took off his glasses. "Because NOW, Detective Inspector Bishop, there is no power on this Earth that can stop me!"
The Doctor winced as the memory went through his mind. In his current body, he very rarely felt the rage of the Oncoming Storm, but whenever he did, it was always so strong, especially when it involved Rose being in danger. His fury always influenced his actions. Even though the days adventure came with a lot of anger and pain, the Doctor couldn't help but give a smile when it was all over.
The young brave boy Tommy Connolly ran to his grand-mother as soon as he spotted her, hugging her tightly. The Doctor scanned the area for his pink and yellow human, finding her talking to one of the other victims. After, she looked around, her eyes falling on the Doctor's smiling, happy face. She gave him a smile as he strode toward her, completely ignoring everyone else. He quickly slid his arms around her body and lifting her off the ground in a huge hug, spinning in happiness. She laughed into his shoulder, hugged him around his neck. Once she was back on the ground, he pulled away slightly, only to descend his lips onto hers. It was quick, chaste and ended way too quickly, but the effect was noticeable. Both their breathing hitched as their lips met, and the pair of them held their breath when they broke apart, diving into the others shoulder, refusing to let the each other go.
The Doctor slipped out of the memory soon after, unable to forget the feel of her lips against his. It was strange that a single human could make him feel like that. He wondered what his childhood friends might have said if he were to tell them about his relationship with her. Many of them, he guessed, would have probably disowned him and called him a disgrace, telling him he should be ashamed to call himself a Time Lord. But then again, he wouldn't really have minded. He was always a bit of a renegade, anyways.
The Doctor was brought out of his thoughts by the sound of shoes scrapping against the TARDIS floor, the Doctor frowning as he looked down at a clock under the TARDIS Console. Rose still had five hours left of sleep, and he knew what she was like without a certain amount of rest. She tip toed into the Console Room, giving him a smile when he turned to her. "Can't sleep?" he asked as she plopped herself down on the Jump Seat, stifling a yawn.
She shook her head. "Woke up abou' an hour ago," she told him. "I'm still tired, just can't sleep." She looked down at her hands, then scratched her arm, which showed the Doctor there was something else she wasn't telling him.
"Nightmares?" he asked. She gave a small smile, then nodded her head slowly. She shrugged, picking at her fingernails. "I'm just being stupid..."
"No, you're not," the Doctor assured, taking his feet off of the Console so he could face her fully. "C'mon, what was it about?"
"Nothing, really," Rose shrugged again. "Jus' abou' what happened today, is all," she looked down at the TARDIS floor, scratching her arm again. "I was back in that cell, in the dark," she explained. She shook her head slowly, adding, "I couldn't see anything, nor hear nothing... it was so freaky." She breathed out a shaky breath, then leaned down and rested her head against the Doctor's shoulder. He repositioned the two of them so she was in a more comfortable place, her face in his neck as her arms wrapped around his waist. She looked up at him and sighed. "So what's up with you, then?" she asked.
The Doctor sniffled as he began stroking her hair. "Same thing, really," he admitted in a mumble. Feeling her frown in his neck, he winced slightly as she pulled away, looking up at him. "Why? What wrong?" she asked, bringing her hand up to his cheek to feel the familiar structure of his cheek bone under her palm.
The Doctor leaned into her touch, feeling that's what he needed. "I just..." he trailed off. "I nearly lost you today," he mumbled to her.
"You won't lose me," Rose assured him, but he shook his head. "But I will," he replied. "Like I told you, I don't age. You do. You'll die, and I'll regenerate." There was a long silence between them, Rose's hand slipping to his neck. "You're having second thoughts about...?" she asked hesitantly.
He shook his head quickly. "No! No, defiantly not," he replied immediately. "It's just, today's shown me how easily you can be taken away from me. Shown me many ways that result in me having to say goodbye to you way too early," he shook his head again, looking her square in the face. "You human's are so damn fragile."
"Like a rose?" she joked, the Doctor giving her a chuckled. They quickly calmed, noticing how very close they were. Their noses were practically touching, as were their foreheads. Leaning down, the Doctor felt his hearts speed up as he pressed his lips to hers, causing Rose to give a contented sigh. She brought her hands to his hair, her fingers running through it as he deepened the kiss quickly, running his tongue along her bottom lip. The Doctor snaked his arms around her middle, fisting her tank top tightly in his hands as her tongue played with his. They stayed like this for a few minutes, pulling away only when Rose gave into a yawn. The Doctor chuckled at her, giving her another quick peck on the lips. "C'mon," he said, getting off the Jump Seat. "Let's get you back into bed."
Rose allowed herself to be led away form the Console Room and back to her own, slightly embarrassed as she wasn't the tidiest person in the world, knick knacks thrown here, there and everywhere around the room. "Can you stay with me?" Rose requested shyly. The Doctor rose his eyebrows at her forwardness, herself quickly adding, "Just 'till I fall asleep. I think you been there will help with the nightmares..."
The Doctor gave her another smile as she sat down on the bed, taking off her shoes. He too slipped his converses off, as well as his jacket. He didn't really have anything to do anyway, and he was tired, too. Besides, he would drop anything he was doing if it meant helping his Rose.
While she slipped under the covers, she watched as he fidgeted with his tie. He looked nervous, she noted. She didn't really know why. It's not like they hadn't shared a bed before when they were in places like prison and stuff. Once he too was under the duvet, she snuggled into his front as he slipped his arms around her gently, sleep taking her far away not too long after.
A.N: Okay, for anyone wondering about Rose and the Doctor being all not so touchy in Rise of the Cyberman and The Age of Steel, this chapter is like... four or five months after all that. Also, I'm so sorry it took this long to update, I'm in the final year of school and my GSCE exams have been taking up all my time. Wish me luck :) please...
