The Satan Pit Part 2

The Doctor awoke with a groan, soon realising his helmet had smashed as he looked down at the pool of glass not an inch from his face. He snapped a hand to his mouth, giving a gasp as he found he could breath. Frowning, the Doctor took a calm breath in, noting the oxygen he was suddenly surrounded in. He took off the remains of his helmet, throwing it to the ground hastily as he noticed some crude, poorly drawn paintings on the wall.

Looking around the room, the Doctor shone his torch up at the paintings, a noise overhead catching his attention. He looked up through a hole in the ceiling to see a rocket flying through the dark space. He watched it fly away slowly, hoping silently that Rose was on board, safe and away from the Base. Looking around again once he took his eyes from the rocket, he drew his attention to the paintings again. "History of some big battle. Man against Beast," he explained into the comm to Ida. Maybe it was just she could hear him and he couldn't hear her? Didn't really matter, it was nice to pretend he wasn't alone. "I dunno if you're getting this, Ida. Hope so. Anyway, they defeated the Beast and imprisoned it," he continued, his torch lighting up an interesting two vases up on the wall, surprised when he turned to see the exact two vases standing not too far away from him. He approached one of the vases, touching it gently, the both of them bighting up immediately. "The gate, or the bars..." the Doctor said to himself. He turned quickly at the sound of a low growl, his jaw dropping to the ground as, right in front of him, a horned beast, chained to the walls and ceiling, roared at him.

The Doctor composed himself, closing his mouth as he stared at the Beast. "I accept that you exist," the Doctor told the animal calmly. "I don't have to accept what you are, but you're physical existence, I'll give you that," he continued, literally throwing what his parents, guardians and teachers told him throughout his childhood and upbringing. The Beast growled at him, the Doctor taking a few steps foreword. "But I don't understand. I was expected down here. I was given a safe landing, and air," he explained. "You need me for something. What for?" The Beast lunged toward the Doctor, straining against the chains that restricted it.

"Have I got to... I dunno, beg an audience?" the Doctor suggested. "Or... is there a ritual? Some sort of incantation or summons or spell - all these things I don't believe in - are they real?" The Beast didn't give a reply, just looked down at him, snarling. "Speak to me! Tell me!" the Doctor said loudly. But still, the Beast gave no reply as the Doctor looked at him helplessly. "You won't talk. Or... you can't talk... Hold on, hold on. Wait a minute, just let me..." he said, holding up his hand to the Beast as he thought. "No... think it through, you spoke before, I heard your voice. An intelligent voice. No, more than that - brilliant! But, looking at you now... all I can see..." the Doctor said, looking up and down the body of the creature. "Is... Beast. The animal. Just... the body. You're just the body, the physical form!" the Doctor exclaimed, everything coming together in his head. "What's happened to your mind? Hmm? Where's it gone? Where's that intelligence?" he asked tauntingly, the truth finally dawning upon him as he looked up toward the rocket, which was just in eye shot. "Oh, no..." the Doctor muttered, his thoughts instantly going to Rose, her safety. The mind, the voice of the Great Beast was, most likely, stuck on the rocket with her, on its way to planet earth...

Walking back to the paintings on the walls, the Doctor began to read them, not just see them. "You're imprisoned. Long time ago. Before the Universe, after, sideways, in-between, doesn't matter," he said dismissively, scanning the drawings in front of him quickly. "The positioning is perfect. It's absolutely- it's eternal. Oh, YES!" he exclaimed giddily, reading on. "Open the prison - the gravity field collapses! This planet falls into the black hole! You escape, you die. BRILLIANT! But that's just the body. The body is trapped, that's all. The devil is just an idea. In all those civilisations - just an idea. But an idea is hard to kill. An idea could escape. The mind - the mind of the Great Beast - the mind can escape!" the Doctor pressed, walking toward the Beast. His eyes grew wide, backing away quickly. "Oh, but that's it! You didn't give me air - your jailers did! They set this up! All those years ago! They need me alive. Because if you're escaping, then I've gotta stop you," he exclaimed as the Beast roared, straining against the chains again. The Doctor bent down to a nearby rock, strutting to the closest vase. "If I destroy your prison, your body is destroyed. Your mind with it," he said, raising the rock over his head, ready to bring it crashing down- he stopped, a look of horror flashing across his face as he smiled slightly and laughed bitterly, throwing the rock down behind him.

"But then you're clever enough to use this whole system against me," he said, leaning against the pillar that held the vase. "If I destroy this planet, I destroy the gravity field. The rocket. The rocket loses protection and falls into the black hole," he said shakily, eying the beast as it laughed at him. "I'll have to sacrifice Rose," he said, his voice cracking, even at the thought of it. Rose being killed on one of the journeys, that one hard fact he'd have to deal with. Her growing old as he watched was another... but killing her, sacrificing her himself, that was something he wouldn't be able to do easily. "So, that's the trap. Or the test or the final judgment, I don't know," the Doctor trailed off. "But if I kill you, I kill her." The Beast laughed at him, now seemingly calm and relaxing. The Doctor frowned in thought as he walked towards the beast again. "Except that implies - in this big grand scheme of Gods and Devils - that she's just a victim. But I've seen a lot of this universe. I've seen fake gods and bad gods and demi gods and would-be gods - out of all that - out of that whole pantheon - if I believe in one thing... just one thing..." he said to the Beast, a newly found passion and strength returning to his voice. "I believe in her!" he roared back at the Beast, bending over to pick up the rock he dropped, throwing it down on the vase, running to the other and doing the same. He threw the rock down as he looked up at the Beast again. "This is your freedom! Free to die! You're going into that black hole and I'm riding with you!" he exclaimed as the planet gave a violent rumble, the Beast releasing flames from its mouth as it thrashed around, straining and straining against the chains.

The Doctor ran back, away from the Beast as from above him, rocks began to pour from the ceiling, each one getting closer and closer to him. He ran down a nearby tunnel, away from the animal. A blast of air knocked him forewords, straight into something hard... wood... He looked up toward what he had smashed into, laughing in mirth as he saw the deep blue colour that greeted him, the bright writing of 'POLICE PUBLIC CALL BOX' making him even more happier, the small, empty space at the back of his mind slowly being filled again. Laughing as he got up, he took the TARDIS key out of his suit pocket, thrusting into the keyhole, turning it happily. He closed the door behind him, running up to the Console, but stopping dead in his tracks at the sight of a cloaked figure sitting in the Jump Seat. She gave him a weak smile, then walked up around the Console. "You can have a go -yell at me, even hit me if you want- later, but right now we've got people to help, okay?" Eliza said, placing her hand on one of the levers.

Giving her an uneasy look, the Doctor told her the coordinates, herself pressing and pulling the relevant buttons and levers, giving them a smooth landing.

Once they had Ida safe and sound inside the TARDIS, Eliza checking for any major injuries, only coming back with slight oxygen depravation, they sped toward the rocket, the Doctor looking at the screen intently as Eliza pushed a final button, catching the rocket . They both gave a sigh of relief, the Doctor allowing a smile to escape his lips at his former pain in the backside -or still pain in the backside, depended whether or not she was willing to tell him everything yet. Sliding something across the screen, the Doctor called happily, "Sorry about the hijack, Captain. This is the good ship TARDIS. Now, first thing's first - have you got a Rose Tyler on board?"

Rose's overjoyed laugh came over the comm. "I'm here! It's me! Oh, my God..." she laughed giddily again. "Where are you?"

"Oh, we're just towing you home" the Doctor said, he and Eliza cruising the TARDIS toward the nearest safe patch of space. "Gravity-schmavity. My people practically invented black holes," he said over the comm. "Weeell... in fact, they did." He pulled another lever. "In a couple of minutes, we'll be nice and safe. Oh, and captain - can we do a swap? Say, if you give me Rose Tyler - I'll give you Ida Scott? How about that?"

"She's alive!" Zach's voice came over the communicator, delighted.

"Yeah!" the Doctor agreed happily. "Bit of oxygen starvation, but she should be all right," he continued, taking a more solemn approach when he thought about what they did leave behind. "We couldn't save the Ood. We only had time for one trip. They went down with the planet." There was a beep from the screen, signalling they were in the better, safer part of space again. "Ah! Entering clear space - end of the line - mission closed." The Doctor and Eliza guided the TARDIS inside the rocket, into the hull. Together, they helped carry Ida into the rocket, Danny giving Eliza a strange looked as he took Ida's arm and placed it over his neck, taking her back into the cockpit.

When the two went back into the TARDIS, Eliza gave a sigh. "Rose will be back soon," she told him. "I'll... eh... give you two some privacy. Come find me when she goes to bed, yeah?" she asked, the Doctor giving a simple nod. Placing her hand on one of the coral struts, Eliza gave a smile as the TARDIS hummed gently in her mind, herself walking off into the endless hallways and corridors in search of her old room.

There was a few moments of brief silence, broken by the creaking of the door, opening quickly as a flack of yellow and pink made its way into the Console Room. The Doctor looked up to see Rose looked happily at him. He smiled, taking long steps toward her, scoping her up in his arms and off the ground as he held her tightly, promising himself emptily that he'd never let her go. Smiling into her messy hair, he placed her back on the ground, pressing his forehead against his as her arms stayed safely around his neck. He bent down, pressing his lips to her soft, moist ones. She gave a small moan, holding him tighter as his tongue slipped into her mouth. His tongue ran smoothly on top of hers, Rose giving out a content sigh as the Doctor felt a wet trails running down her cheek.

Due to humans having such an annoyingly limited supply of oxygen in their bodies, the Doctor pulled back, allowing Rose to breath as he pressed his forehead against hers again, wiping away the tears. Giving her another quick peck on the lips, he pulled away from her, quickly removing his bright orange space suit from atop his comfortable brown, pinstriped one.

"Zach?" he called through the comm as Rose hung off his arm. "We'll be off, now. Have a good trip home. And the next time you get curious about something- oh... what's the point? You'll just go blundering in. The human race..." he said to his human companion.

"But Doctor, what did you find down there?" Ida asked. "That creature... what was it?"

"I don't know!" the Doctor lied. "Never did decipher that writing. But that's good! Day I know everything? Might as well stop."

"What do you think it was? Really?" Rose asked quietly enough so it didn't come up over the comm. She'd been around him long enough to see through his lies easily.

"I think... we beat it," he told her evasively. "That's good enough for me."

"It said I was gonna die in battle," Rose muttered to him. He caught her eyes, giving her hand a squeeze. "Then it lied," he told her in quiet confidence, not allowing her to believe what he was so terrified was. She gave him a smile, as if that was all she needed to reassure her, most of his worries melting away at the sight of her happy face. She gave him a kiss on the cheek before giving him a bigger smile, which he gladly returned.

"Right, onwards, upwards - Ida - see you again, maybe!" he said hopefully.

"I hope so," Ida replied, giving her goodbye.

"And thanks, boys!" Rose called to Zach and Danny.

"Hang on though, Doctor," they heard Ida call as he put his hand to the lever. "You never really said... you two... who are you?" she asked.

"Oh..." the Doctor dragged, looking over to Rose, who smiled at him expectantly. "The stuff of legend," he replied to Ida, pushing the lever down. He and Rose watched as the Time Rotor flared its natural blue, wheezing that oh so relaxing noise as they spun into the Time Vortex, a noise neither of them believed they would ever hear again.

The Doctor looked over to his pink and yellow human standing next to him as she gave a yawn, covering her mouth. Slowly, the Doctor took her in his arms, holding her tightly to him as she did the same. His promise from earlier was running through his mind... Taking in the smell of her hair, he pulled away slightly so their foreheads were touching again. "Rose?" he asked quietly. She hummed her response, liking her lips as she looked down at his. He swallowed toughly the lump that rose in his throat as his chest contracted as he took a deep breath. "Rose Tyler... I l..." shaking his head softly, he repeated, "I..." he gave a sigh, looking down at her, the words he was about to say quite obviously ones she wanted to hear. "Rose... I lo-" he was cut off by Rose mashing her lips to his, running her fingers across his scalp. She pulled away quickly, giving him a tongue in the teeth smile. "I know," she whispered, bringing him into a hug. "I know."
