She couldn't look at them, suddenly ashamed of herself for doing such a stupid and horrible thing.
"Frasier, what in the hell is going on?" Martin demanded. "Why are you yelling at her like that?"
"Because, Dad… she's… irresponsible, disrespectful and-."
"Don't talk about her like that!" Niles yelled. "Daphne is none of those things! She's… wonderful. Look what she's done for Dad!"
"What about what she's done to me?" Frasier snapped. "I have a dinner party tonight and I needed that caviar!"
"Fras, just calm down!" Martin ordered. "I'm sure there's a reasonable explanation for all of this!"
"There is, Mr. Crane." Daphne said, the tears choking her voice. "But I'm afraid it won't be enough, so I'll just be in me room packing up me things. I'm so sorry."
"Daphne-."
She smiled through her tears at Niles. "It's all right, Dr. Crane. Your brother sent me to do an errand and I didn't do as he asked. So I should suffer the consequences. I can't thank you enough for everything you've done for me. Please know that I love you all… so much."
Her voice broke and she began to sob, wasting no time at all in rushing to her room.
Once inside, she didn't bother closing the door. What was the point? In mere moments her bags would be packed and she'd be free to go. Where, she had no idea. How was another problem. She was certain that the car that Frasier had bought her as an apology when he was caught in her room would have to be returned. But she'd manage. She'd simply take the bus. Seattle had plenty of them that would take her anywhere she wanted to go… But she didn't have anywhere to go. And she certainly didn't want to leave.
She began to sob and lowered herself onto her bed as the carefully folded shirt in her hand fell to the floor. She clutched her arms against her chest, feeling a painful ache in her heart, crying relentlessly. She cried for so many things that she no longer had. She cried for her lost job, her stupidity, the frightening encounter with that horrible man, and most of all for the people she had come to love but might never see again.
A soft knock on the door startled her and she quickly rose to her feet. She couldn't let Frasier see her like this. She shouldn't be crying when the whole ordeal was her fault to begin with.
"Daphne?"
"I'm sorry, Dr. Crane." She said, quickly stuffing clothes into her worn suitcase. She wished she could take her entire room and all of its memories with her, but it was best to leave quickly in order to risk angering him further. "I'll be out of here in a little while. I'm sorry it's taking so long but I just need to get meself situated first. I'm not sure where I want to go and-."
"You're not going anywhere, Daphne!"
