The suspense is everywhere in this chapter.
4 PM
Hospital doors forcibly swing open, the doors banging against the wall. Richard rushes headfirst, the others in the group following him. He immediately heads to the receptionist, slamming his hands down onto the counter. "Connor Kent! Megan Morse! What's their condition?!"
The nurse is startled, stammering over her words. "Th-"
"Come on! We're their friends! We got a call from the rescuers about what happened! How are they?" Richard pushes, agitation written across his face.
Roy and Wally grab him by his shoulders, pulling him away from the counter. Victor takes Richard's place in front of the reception. "I'm sorry about him, but like he said, Connor and Megan are our friends. We'd really like to know how their conditions are and if we could come and check on them," Victor explains politely, sheepishly scratching the back of his head.
The receptionist slightly blushes, something that Victor doesn't pick up. "L-let me see," she stammers again, looking down at the paperwork. "Oh, Megan Morse is in stable condition, but still unconscious, and is currently residing in Room 224. The doctors said she should wake up within 24 hours."
"And what about Connor?"
She looks back up at Victor, not knowing how to put it into words. Victor frowns, only one word in his mind: Shit.
The rhythmic beeping of the heart monitor continues as the patient, still unconscious, breathes into an oxygen mask. Bandages are wrapped tightly around her head, her hands are wrapped in bandages, and a leg is lifted into the air, held by a cast. The window's curtains are pulled up, allowing anyone to observe her. Rachel and Artemis lead the way, sprinting towards the hospital room. The rest of the group follows close behind. Rachel presses her face up against the window, trying to see Megan; Artemis does the same.
"What an asshole driver," Roy mutters under his breath.
"Did anyone find out who it was?" Garfield asks.
"I believe the police is currently investigating the area. Apparently, it was a hit-and-run situation," Jackson explains.
"That coward!" Wally growls, his hand clenched in a fist.
"There is nothing that we can do for now except hope that Megan will awaken," Kory rationally placates.
"But…"
"It hurts, I know," Artemis speaks up from her position in front of the window. "But there really is nothing we can do." Kory notices that Artemis's shoulders are slightly quivering, her hands balled into fists as well.
"What are we supposed to tell her about…?" Richard trails off.
"We just have to tell it straight to her," Victor bluntly decides.
The group, sans Rachel, turns to Victor. "Are you insane?" Wally exclaims, disbelief evident in his voice. "None of us would want to hear something like that! We have to figure out a way to lie about this until we can think of something better!"
"It's only a matter of time before Megan figures it out though!" Victor retorts.
"It's still not right! How do you tell a close friend of yours that her boyfriend is-"
"Stop." The word, carried with grief and anguish, silences everyone. Jackson turns to Rachel first, realizing that this is the first time she has spoken. She turns to her friends, tears threatening to spill. "I'll tell her when she wakes up. Like Victor said…it's only a matter of time before Megan figures it out."
"We'll all tell her then," Richard decides, his arms crossed over his chest. "I don't want you bearing the burden on your own, Rachel. Connor and Megan are both our friends; therefore, it's only right if we all tell her."
Rachel lets out a shaky sigh, the first tear trickling down her face. She leans her head against the glass again, questioning why the world is so cruel. She would rather be bullied for the rest of her life if it would mean that Megan would open her eyes again.
6 PM
"Rachel, Artemis, when will you be going home?" Kory asks. The three of them, Jackson, and Roy are the only ones left in the area. Garfield was the first to leave, trying to lighten the mood by complaining about how he has mountains upon mountains of homework to do. Wally and Richard didn't want to leave, but their relatives had called for their whereabouts. Grudgingly, they left. Victor volunteered to drive both of them home.
Jackson and Roy had volunteered to stay behind to walk the girls home later. They turn their heads, hearing frantic footsteps heading towards them. John Jones, Megan's uncle, walks towards them, panic in his brown eyes. "How is Megan?" he asks, trying his best to remain calm.
"The receptionist has told us that she should awaken within 24 hours if all goes well," Jackson replies. John visibly relaxes as he collapses into the chair that Roy had pulled up for him.
"A doctor came by an hour ago and told us some more info about the accident," Roy continues, taking over for Jackson as he walks down the hall to buy some water for those present in the room. "She glanced off of the car as it drove by and twisted her ankle when she landed. She got a few cuts and bruises here and there mainly on her arms and the doctors said she has a Grade II concussion, which might result in temporary amnesia."
John glances to the window, concerned for his niece's life. "But she will be fine, Mr. Jones," Kory comforts him, placing a hand on his shoulder.
He sighs heavily. "Thank you. Megan is blessed to have such friends that care for her." He pauses, remembering that the hospital had mentioned two injured. "Ah, what of the second person? Are they all right?"
The atmosphere darkens, anguish setting in. "The second person was her boyfriend, Connor," Roy answers bluntly, his electric blue eyes looking at the floor.
"Is he all right?" John rapidly asks, standing up. "Where is he? I want to know where he is. I have to thank him for rescuing my niece."
Roy and Kory exchange glances, having an inner argument over who would break the news. The silence thickens as John begins to worry.
"Connor's dead," Rachel speaks up, still not turning away from Megan. Everyone stands there in stunned silence, Jackson just having returned with bottles of water in his hands.
John stammers to find the proper words. "Wh-what?"
What's wrong, Richie-poo? Richard groans, staring at the text message. He resists the urge to throw his phone across the room and simply places the phone back down, resuming his homework. He was dropped off about 10 minutes ago, and he went straight to his room.
He had been watching a baseball game with Bruce when he had received a call from Kory about the accident. Last year, they had all decided that Kory would be the one that contacts everyone should something happen. Bruce simply turned off the TV and grabbed his car keys, driving Richard immediately to the hospital. Richard had met up with everyone and led the way into the hospital.
Richard hangs his head in his hands, letting out a tired sigh. "Connor…" he trails off.
Garfield lies on his bed, his eyes staring blankly up at the ceiling. His homework is left uncompleted on the desk next to him. He was tending to his pet hamster, Buddy, when he received the text message from Kory. He had already felt that something bad was bound to happen, but he never expected something like this to happen to his close friends.
"Please be okay…" he mutters to himself.
Wally and Victor sit in silence as Victor drives Wally back home. Victor had just gotten out of the shower when he saw the message from Kory and immediately rushed out, picking up Wally. He may only have a permit, but the police in the area have seen how careful he is with his driving. "If you wanna turn on the radio, go ahead," Victor suggests, trying to break the melancholy atmosphere.
Wally hesitantly turns on the radio, instantly regretting it as the two realize what they're listening to. In other news, there was a hit-and-run in the local area about 2 and 1/2 hours ago. The police are currently searching for the culprit and they say that the victims have been taken to the hospital.
How's their condition?
The police simply said that they're both in stable condition.
Hmm, there seems to be a lot of hit-and-run accidents in the past few months. Do you think this accident was connected to the others?
There's no clear connection as of yet, so we shouldn't say anything. But the two victims were only sophomores that currently attend Jump Harbor High School.
Really? Do you think they'll be-
Wally jabs the power button, shaking his head in disgust. "Stupid gossipers."
Victor pulls up to Wally's house. "That's how they make money. Talking about recent news, getting everyone's attention, and they're the only ones that really benefit. They're disgusting," Victor growls.
Wally grabs his backpack, only his Chemistry book in his hands. "Well, what can we do? All we gotta do now is hope for the best for them. See ya, Vic."
Wally closes the door, waving at his friend before heading into his house. Victor sighs, closing his eyes for a quick second before reversing out of the driveway. "Yeah…let's hope so."
John and the others continue to stare at Rachel, not expecting her to say that. Roy is the first to be shaken out of his stupor, quickly explaining, "He's not really dead, Mr. Jones."
"He might as well be," Rachel retorts pessimistically.
"The doctors said that he's still ok! Why would you say that?" Roy argues.
Rachel turns towards him, her eyes puffy and red from the tears that have been trickling down her eyes for the past two hours. "Don't you realize it yet, Roy?" She walks towards him, standing barely a foot away from him. "He took the brunt of the car and hit his head harder than Megan when they landed. He's still stuck in a coma and the chances of anyone coming out of a coma are very rare. We all know that, Roy!"
"But it's too early to declare that he's dead! He's still breathing in the ICU. He's still alive!" Roy grabs her by the shoulders, shaking her. "Why are you being so pessimistic about this? Connor needs our support and thinking that he's dead isn't going to be helping him!"
"The chances of him coming out of that coma are low. The doctors didn't admit that to us, but it's really unlikely he's going to come out of that coma."
"Just listen to yourself right now, Rach! Do you honestly think Connor has no hope? Because I know the rest of us are hoping he'll come out of this!"
"Then you tell me, Roy!" She grabs onto his arms, gripping them tightly. "You be the doctor! What are the chances of him coming out of this coma, Dr. Harper?" She pushes back on him as he looks at her in shock. Is this really what Rachel thinks about the situation? Does she honestly think there's no chance?
"Rachel." Roy releases her, hearing Kory's voice. He looks aside, knowing exactly what Kory's going to do. Rachel turns towards Kory, her head abruptly turning to the side. Her cheek burns in pain as she turns back to Kory in surprise. "Roy is right, Rachel. Even if Connor's chances are extremely low, we need to have faith in him." Kory places a comforting shoulder on her friend. "We are friends, after all."
Rachel blinks dumbly, still not having expected the slap from Kory. Soon, the realization of everything that has happened finally truly sets in as she collapses onto a nearby chair. She places her head into her hands, her shoulders shaking and quivering. Kory closes her eyes in anguish as Rachel's body becomes wracked with sobs. Artemis grits her teeth, tears also flowing unbidden down her face. She had had similar thoughts as well, but Kory's words had cleared her thoughts.
The room becomes silent, the silence only pierced by Rachel's sobs, as those present in the room reflect on the situation, questions unanswered. Suddenly, a beeping noise interrupts everything. Kory, Artemis, and Rachel look around, trying to discern where the noise is coming from.
Roy and Jackson immediately dart around the corner of the room, calling for the doctor. "What is happening?" John asks frantically, leaping towards the window separating him from his beloved niece. Soon, the doctor appears with Jackson and Roy trailing behind. The doctor and three other nurses come into Megan's room, and Kory now notices the beeping. It had come from an alarm that is currently hooked the machine that monitors Megan's vitals.
As the doctor and two other nurses continue checking on Megan, the third nurse walks out to inform the group the situation. Rachel frowns, sensing bad news.
"How're you holding up?" Richard opens his eyes, his body spread out like a starfish on his bed. Bruce is holding two mugs of coffee as he walks into the room, placing the coffees down on the desk next to Richard's bed. "There was news about the accident both on TV and on the radio."
Richard sighs heavily, palming his face. "Will they ever shut up?"
"I don't think they will any time soon. They're saying that Connor's dead."
Richard sits up instantly, his face contorting into a frown. "He's not dead."
"I know. But they're saying his injuries might result in death."
"He's not dead," Richard emphasizes again. "Did they mention his injuries?"
"No, but the way they spoke implied that it's pretty serious."
Richard looks down, gripping his comforter. "2 broken ribs that punctured his lungs because of the hard impact on the ground, his lower spinal cord is broken and the doctors say he might be paralyzed below his waist, he has a few lacerations here and there on his arms from the broken glass, he has a dislocated left shoulder, and a Grade III concussion," Richard sums up. Bruce can hear him muttering something under his breath. "And possibly other injuries that are bound to show up."
"So the main reason why he might die is because of the broken ribs puncturing the lungs."
"Yeah, the lacerations weren't bad enough for him to lose too much blood. But the main issue was the punctured lungs and his head hitting the ground."
"Just have to have faith in his recovery," Bruce reminds him, trying to remain optimistic.
Richard lets out a tired sigh, slumping. "I guess so." Their conversation ends when Richard's phone begins to buzz on his table.
He grabs it, swiping the screen to look at the text message. His eyes widen in surprise as he shakes with anticipation, relief washing over his face. "Megan woke up."
Bruce, without further urging, stands up. "Let's go. I'll drive you to the hospital."
In seemingly no time at all, Richard can be seen sprinting across the hospital back to Megan's room. He turns the corner, skidding to a halt. "Wh-where is everyone?" Jackson looks up from his book.
"Megan was moved to another room after the doctor confirmed that she was stable. She is feeling rather well…however…" Jackson trails off. Richard frowns, not liking the sign of bad news.
"However…?" he repeats.
"She has temporary amnesia, so she refuses to speak to anyone but the doctor and nurses." Jackson looks down, placing his head in his hand. "When Rachel tried to talk to her, Megan only pushed her away. It was the same for everyone."
"Did the doctors say how long the amnesia would last?"
"They approximated from 24 hours to even a week. That's why we should do everything we can to help her regain her memory."
"Of course. Did anyone else come by, like Vic or Gar?"
"No, and I was told to wait only for you. Victor and Garfield told Kory that they will come visit tomorrow after school. Too many people trying to help her regain her memory might cause panic."
"You're right," Richard agrees. "Well, lead the way, Jack." Jackson stands up from his seat, leading Richard out of the ICU area towards Megan's room. "Did the girls leave?"
Jackson chuckles. "When Roy and I suggested it, they flat out denied us. That's just how they are," he shrugs.
Richard can't help but smile as well. "Yeah…that's exactly how they'd act."
"Roy, however, couldn't stay any longer and Mr. Queen came to drive him home."
"Really? I'd think Ollie would let Roy stay for a friend."
"Something apparently came up." Richard notices Jackson's tone shifting to something dark, as if he's hiding something.
"What happened?" Richard questions, attempting to gauge Jackson's reaction.
"I honestly do not know. But it apparently has something to do with Artemis and Rachel because Mr. Queen looked directly at them, as though he were signaling to Roy."
Before they can further deliberate on the situation, Jackson turns left to another hallway. Richard sees Kory standing outside, fiddling with the back of her phone. "What's going on, Kory?" Richard greets, a hand raised in greeting.
"My phone battery has nearly depleted and I am merely manually charging it," she explains.
"Ah…where's Rache and Arty?"
"They are in there, trying to assist Megan in recalling her memory. There has been no success in their endeavors, however," she replies dejectedly, her head lowered in sadness.
"Don't worry, Kore. We'll get Megs's memory back. Can't be that hard."
"You are right, Richard. Please, go in and have a talk with Megan. I am sure you will be able to help her as well."
"Thanks, Kory." He gives her a thumbs-up before walking into the room with Jackson behind him.
The first thing Richard sees is Megan sitting up on the bed, a vacant look on her face as Rachel and Artemis attempt to engage in a conversation with her. Bandages are still wrapped around her head and a bandage on her cheek. Her foot is still raised up in the air, wrapped in its cast, and her arms are also still wrapped in bandages, albeit lesser than before. Mr. Jones is sitting in the corner of the hospital room, his face full of hopelessness as his niece continues to stare into space. "Hey, Megan, don't you remember this photo? This was when you took us out to Kickin' Crab after we told you how we never had the chance to go there?" Artemis clutches her white Samsung Note II, its bright screen lighting up Megan's blank face.
"Come on, Megan. You really don't remember anything?" Rachel persists, her hands unconsciously gripping onto the sheets tightly.
Megan blinks, her auburn eyes shifting over to Rachel. She slowly shakes her head. "I'm sorry. But I really don't remember any of these photos you showed me. Are you sure I wasn't photoshopped into those photos?"
"We're positive, Megs. You're our friend. There's no way we would just photoshop you into photos like this," Artemis confirms.
"But I don't remember anything. Is Megan really my name?"
"Yes, it is," Richard speaks up, deciding that the agony pouring from the girls needs to stop. He stands at the foot of the bed, arms crossed, as he stares down Megan. "Your name is Megan Morse. Your family is that man over, sitting in anguish as he watches his niece's friends struggle to help her regain her memories. You're part of a rather large group of close friends and two of them are sitting right by your side, trying their damnedest to help you. The rest of your friends are Roy, Jackson, Garfield, Victor, Wally, Kory, me, and your boyfriend, Connor. We're all here for you, Megan, but we can't help you if you don't cooperate with us." He leans forward, clutching onto the metal footing of the bed. "So please. Help us help you, Megan."
Megan blinks, taking in Richard's words before she suddenly winces. She leans forward as well, clutching her head in pain for a split second. When she looks back up, she stares at Richard as if finally realizing who he is. "R-Richard?"
"Do you remember everything now?"
"O-only a little bit. I-I…only remember a few names, but I can't put faces to those names."
"Whose names do you remember? We'll help you any way we can," Rachel speaks up, clutching Megan's left hand tightly.
Megan's eyes trail over to Rachel as she speaks up. "Um…Rachel, Artemis…C-Connor…and that's it. I'm sorry, but that's all I can remember."
"That's fine! We'll help you remember everyone else's names. If we could, we'd take you to Connor's room right now," Rachel regretfully admits.
Megan looks around the room, finally noticing everyone in the room. "Rachel? And Artemis…right?" She makes eye contact with both girls as their eyes light up in hope. She then turns to her uncle, who is staring at her with hope in his eyes. "U-uncle?"
He stands up, striding over to her as his eyes turn misty. Artemis shifts aside as he envelops his niece in a warm embrace, tears finally streaming down his face. He strokes her hair, comforting her. Rachel and Artemis stand beside Richard, letting Mr. Jones have some time with his niece.
Suddenly, Rachel grabs her phone. "Something up?" Artemis asks.
"We can show her these photos," Rachel suggests, tapping on a folder called "Fresh Homies" – which was probably named so thanks to Artemis. Another folder right next to it says "S'more (In progress)".
"That's a lot of photos though…"
"I cleared most of the images. It's mainly group photos and a few candids here and there. The rest of the photos are on my laptop," Rachel explains before Artemis can complain about losing so many photos. She takes a tentative step forward. "Mr. Jones." He releases Megan, looking at Rachel inquisitively.
"Yes? What do you need?"
"I think we can help Megan a bit more. I have some photos that could bring her memory back." He releases Megan and she almost clutches onto his suit like a young child.
"It's all right, M'gann," Mr. Jones comforts, calling her by her African name. "They're your friends, after all. They'll help you."
She releases her grip on her uncle as Rachel appears on the other side of the bed. "Here."
Megan takes Rachel's HTC Amaze in her hand, flipping through the photos.
The first one is a photo of all 11 friends posing for a photo, all of them in their team uniforms and athletics clothes. Richard is in the back center, flashing a toothy grin, his left hand wrapped around Jackson's shoulder. Garfield, being the smallest, had somehow climbed onto Victor's back and his head is peeking over Victor's shoulder with Wally under that shoulder. Connor is holding Wally captive in a half nelson. Kory and Megan are in the front, Kory's left elbow on her knee as she poses with Megan mirroring her. Artemis and Rachel flash peace signs in the front as well, Artemis's arm around Rachel's shoulder.
The group had been working out together at the community gym and Richard urged them to take a group photo for memories to also go along with other photos that Rachel and Artemis had taken while they were in the gym. Megan blinks, beginning to break through the haze in her mind as she recognizes Richard, Rachel, Artemis, and Jackson.
She flips to the next photo, her brow furrowing in thought. Wally is at the center with pie frosting on his face and Richard right next to him, the pie container in his hand, and a cheeky grin on his face. Victor and Garfield are in the back, fighting over the bat that would be used to break open the piñata. Jackson and Roy are standing to the side with a simple smile on their face. Megan and Connor are sitting shoulder to shoulder at the foreground of the photo, her right hand and his left hand hidden behind their backs. Artemis and Rachel are laying on their sides on the grass, propped up by their elbow, and Kory is kneeling between them.
They had been celebrating Wally's birthday that day, the piñata in the background and a table with presents. The person that had taken the photo for them was Barry. Rachel, the unofficial "historian" of their group, had taken a plethora of photos that day as well, ranging from the presents to individual photos of everyone with pie frosting adorning their face. Megan winces as her brain remembers more faces – Garfield, Wally, and Roy.
"Who do you recognize so far?" Jackson interrupts as he walks back into the room. He had walked out to tell Kory of Rachel's plan and they were just walking back in when he asked the question.
She shows the photo to those present in the room, pointing to each person. "Richard and Wally are the ones with the pie, Garfield's this orange-haired boy fighting over the bat, Roy and Jackson are the ones that aren't really involved in anything, and Rachel and Artemis are the ones that are laying seductively across the gra-"
"We were not posing seductively," Artemis argues.
"I believe you argued that same thing as we were looking at the photo, Artemis," Jackson recalls, eliciting a brief moment of chuckling from everyone as Rachel's and Artemis's faces flush from embarrassment.
"So you still don't know who Victor, Kory, and Connor are," Richard says, getting straight back to business.
Megan regretfully shakes her head slowly. "But I know Kory's this girl since she's the only girl that I don't remember at the moment," she deduces, pointing to Kory in the picture.
"Do you think you can figure out which one is Connor and which one is Victor?" Jackson asks.
"Well…" she begins. "Richard said that Connor is my boyfriend so I'm assuming he's Connor." She points to Connor. "And then that's Victor." She points to Victor. They all nod, glad that their dear friend has at least recalled who's who.
"Oh, this is excellent!" Kory exclaims, exultant. "I was concerned that you would be unable to remember anything! This is glorious!" She wraps Megan in a bear hug as Megan struggles.
"C-can't…brea-"
Kory lets out a gasp, recalling Megan's injuries. She jumps back immediately, allowing Megan to catch her breath. "Forgive me."
"It's all right, it's not like I had any broken bones. Just a twisted ankle," she placates, gesturing towards the cast.
Richard sits down on the other side of the bed, a serious expression on his face. "So, Megan. Do you remember what happened before you got put into the accident?"
Megan frowns, trying to remember. "I…don't really remember anything." She closes her eyes tightly as tires screeching echo in her mind and then the sound of a body colliding with the car. She lets out a gasp, looking up at those present in the room.
"What happened?"
"I remember now! Everything that's happened so far! And I think I might know who hit us!"
Everyone was hopeful at the beginning, but her last sentence only throws them into further confusion. "Are you saying it was intentional?" Richard questions, brow furrowing in concentration. Could it be...? No! They're in jail! There's no way it could be them. He shakes it off, refocusing on Megan's recollection.
"The car didn't slow down at all when it saw us. And when Connor was…" she pauses, recalling her actions right before the accident.
"You ok, Megan?" Artemis asks, concerned for her friend's health.
"I-it's fine." She shakes off the memory, hoping to get the chance to explain to Connor later. "A-anyway, even after Connor grabbed me, the car sped up even faster. As we were falling to the side, the car slammed into Connor's lower body and then I felt something warm and wet splash onto my torso." She grips her blanket tightly, now realizing that it was blood.
"Take your time. Don't force yourself to remember too much," Rachel comforts. Megan nods, thankful for their constant support.
"The driver slammed on his brakes, and I'm pretty sure the driver was planning on kidnapping one of us or something. By then, we had already landed and Connor took the brunt of both the car's impact and the ground. I twisted my ankle trying to prevent us from falling over too hard. But our heads hit the curb, causing my concussion, and I'm pretty sure Connor got a lot more injured than me." She pauses, noticing the sullen looks on their faces. "Speaking of which…where is Connor?"
Those present in the room engage in an unspoken argument before Rachel speaks up. "I promised to tell her, remember?"
"What? What's going on?"
"When we first ran into the hospital after hearing the news, the receptionist told us that Connor was in critical condition. We haven't gotten any other news so we're assuming that there hasn't been any improvements to his health."
"But what's the extent of his injuries?" Megan asks, preparing for the worst.
"The doctors say he has 2 broken ribs that punctured his lungs because of the hard impact on the ground, his lower spinal cord is damaged and the doctors say he might be paralyzed below his waist," Richard begins, listing out the injuries as if it's a groceries list.
"Wait!" Megan interrupts, her eyes widened in shock. "You're saying Connor might be permanently paralyzed? He might not be able to walk ever again?"
None of them meet her eyes. "It's possible," Richard mumbles.
"What are his other injuries?" Megan asks, knowing that that isn't the worst of it.
"The least of our worries were the lacerations that both of you received from the glass. He has a dislocated left shoulder and broken elbow," Roy continues for Richard.
"What else?"
"A Grade III concussion," Jackson replies.
"How bad is that?"
"You received a Grade II concussion and that caused unconsciousness and temporary amnesia. Grade III is the worst of the concussions," Kory regretfully explains.
"Are you saying…?" Megan begins, hesitant to realize it.
"He's in a coma," Artemis bluntly states. "And the chances of him coming out of it are really low. The longer he's in it, the lower his chances."
Megan suddenly feels numb, her eyes slowly darting around the room at everyone to confirm it. Their grim faces tell it all. Even her uncle looks remorseful. As the realization sinks in, Megan leans forward, head in her hands. Soon, the only noise emitting from the room is Megan's sorrowful sobs.
Richard sees movement outside the room and he darts out, Jackson and Roy following him. Richard scans the surrounding area as Roy and Jackson focus on areas that Richard can't see. "Over there!" Richard spots the target: a man with short-cropped blonde hair wearing a brown overcoat.
Roy chases after him, but the man disappears. As Richard and Jackson prepare to follow, Connor's doctor appears. "Are you a friend of Connor Kent?"
"I'll help Roy," Jackson volunteers. Richard briefly nods and Jackson immediately takes off.
"Yes, what is it?" Richard curtly asks the doctor, a little miffed at the fact that the doctor had interrupted a potential suspect. But he immediately calms down, a sense of foreboding settling into his stomach as he observes that the doctor has a rather serious look on his face.
"We thought that the injuries that we told you were the extent, however…" He pauses, causing Richard to become agitated.
"However what?" He urges.
"The CT scan showed that Mr. Kent has a hemorrhage in his brain."
I will clear this up right now. I am not a medical expert, most of these injuries and issues are based on research. If it's wrong, please let me know. But please don't be all high and mighty or act like I'm stupid. I did my best trying to get everything correct, but even I make mistakes. I AM currently in anatomy, but the book doesn't talk much about hemorrhaging and stuff (then again, we haven't really talked much about the brain).
So if anything's wrong, feel free to let me know and I'll fix it ASAP.
