"Wake up Yugi! Your going to be late for School!" Grandpa's voice called up the stairs.

Yugi's eyes shot open. It was the most peaceful he had slept in days, and now he overslept!? On a school day? He was usually up early! He scrambled out of bed and quickly dressed himself, picking out his usual school uniform, and ran to the bathroom. He raced through brushed his teeth, and in a flash he was downstairs. His grandfather had made him a bowl of cereal, he noticed, which he quickly scarfed down in no time.

His grandpa seemed to be a little surprised at how fast he had gotten ready, but he didn't say anything.

"Yugi, I have to meet a friend of mine today, so i'm going to close the shop a bit early." Grandpa reminded him.

Yugi nodded as he finished off the last bits of his food.

"Alright, see you later then!" He said, and then grabbed his backpack that was laying by the door, slipped on his neatly placed shoes, and raced out the door.

Yugi was panting by the time he reached the school building. He had 20 minutes to spare. He took a few deep breaths to calm his racing heart, but just then, his heart stopped dead.

He looked down, and with a sharp pang he realized that he had forgotten something. Or Someone to be exact. His eyes widened. He never forgot the Millennium Puzzle! never! He fought the panic that was rising in his chest.

He had made a promise to himself that he'd always carry the puzzle around wherever he went, no matter what. He always seemed to need Yami in the most odd moments... but, it wasn't just that. he needed Yami because he missed the spirit; because he felt that Yami had a right to go wherever Yugi went. Yami was one of the most important people to him, and he had forgotten him.

A few seconds later, he realized what an idiot he must look like, standing in front of his school with a look of horror plastered on his face. Not everyone saw a look like that... But he couldn't help it, really. He had forgotten Yami!

What should I do!? he thought. It takes more than 20 minutes to get to the Game Shop and come back! and I can't just leave Yami there all alone by himself. Yami must hate me for forgetting him. He thought.

Yugi was so lost in thought that he didn't see Joey running towards the school. Joey must have caught sight of Yugi because he instead veered off to meet Yugi.

"Hey Yug, whatcha doin' in the front of the building?" Joey asked.

Yugi looked up, a little startled.

"Um... Hey Joey. Fancy meeting you here..." Yugi said.

Joey scratched the back of his head. "uh.. yeah... well, come on Yug, we better head in now if we want to be there on time." he said. "Come on, lets get going." he signaled with his hand for Yugi to follow him.

Yugi shook his head rapidly. "I can't Joey." he said quickly.

Joey looked questioningly at him, "And why is that exactly?" he asked.

Yugi's worry began to burst out of him, and he told Joey the story of how he woke up late and accidentally forgot about the Pharaoh.

"What do I do Joey!?" he asked, beginning to freak out even more now that his situation was out in the open.

He knew he was probably over reacting to everything, but with the stress of everything, how could he not?

Joey blinked. "Go back and get the Puzzle Yugi. I'll cover for you, I promise." he said without a second thought.

Yugi smiled. "Thanks Joey!" Joey smiled back with an approving nod.

"Oh! and Yug, don't worry about Tea, and Tristan, I'll tell them where you went, so don't worry."

Yugi nodded. "Alright, I'll try to be as fast as I can."

Joey nodded, and proceeded into the school building.

Yugi turned away from the school, and raced back towards the Game Shop, from which he had just come.

Hopefully the teachers would be a bit understanding, and his grandpa wouldn't completely freak out on him for coming home during school hours.

Yugi burst through the Game Shop entrance, not bothering to stop and take off his shoes.

"Yugi!?" his grandpa asked worriedly. He was standing behind the counter, manning the shop.

Yugi didn't have time to answer, he was already late for his first class, and he didn't intend to miss his second.

He raced up the stairs and into his bedroom; the spirit of the Millennium Puzzle was sitting on Yugi's messed up bed, rubbing one eye with the back of his hand, sleepily. He was startled by the sudden appearance of Yugi in the doorway.

"Yugi?" he asked, the sleepiness seeming to fade from his eyes.

Yugi ran to the spirit, "I'm so sorry Pharaoh! I can't believe I forgot the Millennium Puzzle!"

The spirit blinked, surprised, "Forgot?" he asked.

Yugi looked down at his feet. "Yeah. Nothing seems to be going my way today." he murmured.

The Pharaoh put a hand on Yugi's shoulder and stood up. "It's alright. Everyone forgets things sometimes." he told Yugi.

Yugi looked up at him. "Pharaoh, what I mean is, I forgot about YOU." he clarified.

The spirit shook his head. "You came back didn't you? that's good enough for me." he answered.

Yugi smiled a little. "Yeah, i guess i did..." he paused for a second, "So... Your not mad at me?" Yugi asked.

"Mad?" the spirit said confused. "No. Why would I be mad over something little like this?"

Yugi started to tell Yami, but Yami shook his head. "It doesn't matter right now... Why were you in a hurry? What time is it?" he asked.

Yugi's eyes widened. "Oh no! school!" he said. He quickly grabbed the Millennium Puzzle off his dresser, pulling Yami along with him, and raced downstairs.

He saw his grandpa watching the TV with interest and he stopped.

"Grandpa?" he asked. Grandpa's eyes darted over to Yugi, worriedly.

"Yugi? do you know anything about this?" he asked.

"Know about what?" Yugi asked as he walked over to the counter.

Grandpa pointed at the TV and turned up the volume so Yugi could hear. The news was on, and someone was talking.

"-Domino High Students!" The reporter said.

Yami came out of the Puzzle and blinked, keen to know what was going on.

"Yugi? whats going on?" he asked.

Yugi was too absorbed into the news to answer him, so Yami turned his attention to the TV screen.

The reporter was no longer in front of the camera but to the side with the camera man pointing his camera at the-all-too-familiar-school.

Outside, in the front of the building, Police cars surrounded the school. The camera man tilted the camera up to one of the school windows. Yugi's eyes suddenly turned dark as he recognized familiar figures in the window.

"No." he said, willing his assumption to be false.

Yami was both surprised and worried about Yugi and his friends, but what scared him half to death was Yugi's dark look. It was unnatural, and it scared him a little.

"Yugi? you feeling alright?" Yami asked.

Yugi's expression darkened even further, and he let out a breath, almost like he was trying to prevent himself from crying.

When the camera man zoomed in so that everyone could see, several men in black could be seen through the window, and three of them all held Joey, Tea and Tristan hostage.

Yugi started trembling, and Yami became concerned with each passing second. He wasn't too sure if Yugi would be able to pull himself together in order to save his friends, whom are now in a terrible, and dangerous situation.
