A/N: OH MY GOSH I'M SO SORRY YOU GUYS! I know it's been forever since I've updated and I feel TERRIBLE about it but I just haven't had the time to write! But I'm back now, so hopefully you don't all hate me too much! Anyway I just wanted to let you guys know that since I'm in my last year of high school now, I need to focus on that, so updates may be kinda rare, but I am aiming to get all my stories finished/uploaded (that includes ones I've hinted at and have on my phone that haven't been uploaded at all yet), because I don't want to have ongoing stories lingering after I finish school as I might never get to finish them. So this might be my last year writing fanfiction, unfortunately, but I PROMISE I'm not gonna leave you guys hanging with ANY of my stories, even if it means I have to pull an all nighter and update a chapter every hour or something to get them all done. I love you guys so much, and I hope you forgive me for being so slow with my updates, and I hope this kinda makes up for it :)

Chapter 13: Coming Back

James looked up as the short haired woman gasped, and he felt a pang of guilt in his stomach at the tears in her eyes,

"I, uh, I'm sorry I don't remember," he said gently, approaching her and sitting beside her on the couch "but I'm gonna try, and Logan and uh," he screwed up his eyes as he tried to remember,

"Carlos," the Latino supplied in a small voice.

"Carlos!" James groaned "Why don't I know that?!"

"Listen sweetie," the short haired woman said "I know it's hard right now, and it's OK that you don't remember, I mean I was a little shocked, but it's OK now, you take all the time you need,"

"Yeah, son," a middle aged man, who he assumed was his father, said from the other end of the couch "your mother and I understand that this is going to be hard, and we're going to help you out as best we can before we leave for Minnesota,"

"Thank you," James mumbled, allowing his mother to pull him into a tight embrace as a door slammed in the hallway.

"Katie!" Mrs Knight called, and James wriggled free of his mother's grasp to follow her into her bedroom.

"Hey," he said gently, his heart breaking as he saw the small girl curled up on her bed, sobbing into her knees. "Katie, please don't cry," he inwardly praised himself for remembering her name, but cursed at the fact that he had to "Look," he took the little girl gently by the shoulders and helped her sit up "I'm telling you what I've been telling everyone else, OK? I'm sorry that I can't remember, I want to, but I just can't! I'm trying though, and I'm gonna need everyone's help around here, so can you be strong and help?" he asked her, and she blinked up at him with teary eyes.

"What if you don't remember?" Katie asked, "I mean you didn't remember Carlos' name just before!"

"Yeah, but I remembered yours and Logan's! I'm still learning, and it's gonna take some time, but I'm gonna remember one day, Katie," James said "I promise,"

That afternoon, the boys took James on another tour around the Palm Woods, and he gingerly introduced himself to Bitters, Jo, Tyler, Guitar Dude and the Jennifers,

"How you doing, bud?" Logan asked as they made their way back into the lobby after circulating the pool.

"I'm ok," James said, trying to inwardly remember which Jennifer was which.

"You wanna go to Rocque Records?" Carlos asked without thinking.

"Where?" James blinked.

"Our recording studio," Logan explained, it's where we write and record stuff for BTR,"

"Uh, OK," James nodded hesitantly, and soon the boys had called for Kelly to send them a car. "Wait, so we have someone to drive us everywhere?" the pretty boy asked "To school and stuff?"

"We go to school at the Palm Woods," Logan reminded him gently "remember? Where we live? Remember, we met Miss Collins, our teacher?"

"Right," James groaned "I should know that!"

"It's OK, bud," Logan said, but Carlos' face looked slightly panic stricken "this is a lot to take in, are you sure you're OK to keep going? We can head home and you can rest if you want," the genius suggested, but James shook his head resolutely.

"No," he said decidedly "I don't wanna go back there, back to him," Carlos' eyes widened, and Logan shot him a look.

"Who, James?" he asked.

"The blonde one, the guy who screamed at me,"

"Kendall?" Carlos asked, his bottom lip wobbling "but he's your best friend!"

"He attacked me," James said in a small voice.

"He was just scared for you, bud," Logan said gently "remember we told you he was really messed up after the accident?"

"Yeah," James said slowly.

"Well that's why he freaked out, he thinks it's his fault you got hurt,"

"But it's not," James insisted "it was the drunks!"

"Drunks?" Logan asked urgently.

"Yeah," James returned in a small voice, suddenly wondering whether he really should've brought it up, since that was about all he could remember "that was the reason we crashed,"

"James!" Carlos' look of fear was suddenly replaced with one of shock and excitement "you remembered!" James looked from the excited Latino to the genius, who was staring blankly at him,

"Yeah, I - I guess I did," James smiled, relieved.

"What else do you remember?" Logan urged.

"Uh," James scrunched up his face and shut his eyes, as if he could see the memories beneath his eyelids "we were driving - Kendall was - and then there was this other car coming," he scrunched up his face even more, trying to keep hold of the image that was slipping away "it was coming straight at us-" after a moment of tense silence, James blew out a frustrated breath and opened his eyes "Damn it!" he cursed, and Logan and Carlos let out the breaths they were holding "I'm sorry guys,"

"No, no, no!" Logan insisted "It's OK! You wouldn't just remember everything, it'll come to you, it's just gonna take a while, but you remembered the drunks, and that's a good sign! It means you're remembering! It means it's coming back!"

A/N: AHH James is getting his memory back – kinda! Anyway, pretty please review guys, I have the next two chapters already in the works, so I'm gonna start working on them now! xo
