Back at the apartment after the Doctor dropped me off, I made a small box of my more important objects and clothing. I had packed up a box of photos and certain dresses Tony bought me because knowing Tony he would not be happy if I let John sell those. Once the box was full I put the invite to the death of the Doctor on top, only to take notice of the number now. I gaped at the number, amazed to think I was ranked that high, why was I number 2...what did that make River? What did that make me?
As I grabbed the letter to look over it, a knock came from the door and the Doctor popped his head around the door with an inquisitive look.
"Sam, are you almost done? Mrs. Hudson keeps trying to feed me some apple pie." He urged with a disgruntled face.
"Yeah, I'll be done in a second." I inquired quickly shoving the letter in the side of the box.
The Doctor raised his eyebrow at the quick gesture then walked over, "What is that?"
"Nothing…" I blurted out glancing down at the envelope.
"You are hiding something, let me see." He explained reaching for the envelope.
I panicked and quickly snatched it while stepping back, "No."
"Come on let me see!" He whined like a five year old reaching for the envelope that was barely in his reach.
He darted toward me and tried to snatch it but before he could I ducked and watched him topple over me and fall back onto the bed. He blinked a few time before breaking into a huge grin and shouted, " I win!"
" What…?" I questioned looking down at my now empty hand...surprised that the clumsy timelord had managed to grab it.
He snickered and waved it out in front of him in his triumph, before his eyes caught on to the actual content of the message. His face grew serious before he glanced over at me with a frown "When did you get this Sam?"
I looked down before looking back at him, "A few months ago, I didn't see who dropped it off...Sherlock did."
He looked over it and traced his finger over the number, "So you were number 2, I was wondering who that could have been for awhile."
I sighed standing up and taking a seat next to him on the bed, before glancing at the card then back up at him.
"You got number 1 didn't you?"
He looked at him with an unchanged expression, "Sam...how much do you exactly know about me?"
"Almost everything, this is your 11th regeneration, but you regenerated when you were in your tenth twice...I have heard rumors of your name but I never believed them." I admitted looking at him.
"What were they?" he pondered looking at me with those sad eyes.
"...It was just a rumor, Doctor and to me it doesn't matter."
"Please tell me, Sam."
I looked up at those sad eyes, would he be able to handle the rumors I thought it was maybe it was not even remotely related to it...or so I hoped.
" ...something I can never remember the second part." I revealed as I watched his eyes widen slightly at the sound of it.
"But… it just a rumor isn't it?" I mumbled hopefully.
"...No it isn't… That was my academy name…" He admitted breaking into a tiny sad smile.
"Oh...Doctor I-Don't be it's not your fault." He chuckled weakly running a hand through his hair.
"No it's not...but that isn't your whole name right? I know River knows the whole name… and I'm not near as important to know it."
He looked over at me raising an eyebrow, "River doesn't know my whole name, Sam. She knows what you know my academy name."
My head moved up shocked at what as I was hearing, what did this mean for the relationship ahead of them...did I just fuck everything up.
"Then what did she tell you at The Library? " I spilled out sounding a little more desperate than I should of.
"She told me what I just said my academy name...Who is she in my future? I know you know Sam."
I stood up quickly as he asked that question and I looked down at him over my shoulder breaking into a small smirk.
"Not this time Spaceman you aren't getting info about your future from me so spoilers."
He broke out into a grin before jumping to his feet and tucking the invite into his inside jacket pocket, "Ready to go back to the Tardis?"
I grinned softly and took his hand in mine before speaking up, "I was born ready."
