Ok, so I finally managed to pump out this last chapter today. I guess I just really wanted to get this story done. I think the problem with me getting back into this story was the fact that it's an old insertion fic of mine and lately, I've been writing more original stories. You know, rather than just rewriting canon events with an OC in them. So I think that's what made it a little harder to get back into this story. It just didn't feel as right or as fun as some of my more current, original stories.
But without further adieu, enjoy the last chapter!
"You must have a lot of questions for me," Arianna said nervously as the Wolfe family gathered in the family room of Skye's apartment.
"Actually, I don't really. When I was little, I asked dad where you went and why you weren't around," Skye replied.
"I see," Arianna cast her eyes down sadly, causing Demitri to reach over and reassuringly grasp her hand tightly.
"He told me that you had to go away because there were people who needed your help. He told me that you were saving lives and helping people. I always just figured everyone else just needed you more than I did."
"That's… an interesting way to put it," Arianna chuckled.
"But if you've been back from Lupus K9 all this time looking for dad, how come you never came to me?" she asked.
"I-I was afraid," Arianna admitted.
"Afraid? Afraid of what?" Skye asked.
"I was afraid you would hate me. I mean, why wouldn't you? I just left you for so long. I was certain you would hate me! I was afraid of what you might say to me and I was afraid you'd tell me that you didn't want anything to do with me… so I avoided you. I know I shouldn't have, but I can't change the past."
"I don't hate you," Skye said.
"Y-you don't?" Arianna asked, surprised.
"I know you weren't around the whole time, but dad always told me you were somewhere doing something real important and that you'd find your way back to us as soon as you could. I always imagined what it was you'd be doing: saving people from burning buildings, falling cars… It was part of the reason I decided to join the Loonatics in the first place. I wanted to be a hero, like you."
"…You have no idea how happy I am to hear you say that," Arianna said, her eyes tearing up.
"Mom!" Skye called out, her eyes tearing up as well as mother and daughter stood from their seats and embraced each other tightly.
"I'm so happy that we're all together again! We're a family again!" Demitri added, joining in on the hug as he embraced the two most important women in his life.
"Speaking of which, Skye sweetheart, I've been meaning to ask you something," Arianna said, taking her daughter's hands in her own.
"She what?" Lexi exclaimed. Lexi and Skye sat in the former's room to discuss something privately. Little did either of them know, Duck, who had been passing by, stood silently against the wall to listen to their conversation.
"My mom asked me if I want to go with her to Lupus K9. My dad would be coming with us too, but she wants to show me where our family comes from," Skye exclaimed.
"But you were born here, weren't you?" Lexi asked.
"Yes, but my parents originally came here from Lupus K9. Some big war just ended and my mom thinks it'll be a great opportunity to learn where I come from and spend time with her."
"But then that would mean you'd have to…"
"Leave the team," Skye finished her sentence.
"Oh boy, looks like there's trouble in lover's lane," Duck muttered to himself before dashing off to Tech's lab.
"At least for a little while," Skye continued.
"Have you talked about this with Tech yet?"
"No, I wanted to talk to you first. You're my best friend and I know Tech will think it's all great until he realizes I have to leave the team."
"Well, it's going to be impossible for me to be objective about this, Skye. I don't want my best friend to leave," Lexi said.
"I don't want to leave you guys either! But I've been waiting ever since I was a little girl to see my mother again! And now I've got her back and I have the chance to see where my family came from. To be honest, for years I always felt like a part of me was missing and I think this is how I can fill it."
"Well, I think you should really talk to Tech about this before you make a decision. He's your boyfriend after all."
"You're right, I need to talk to him about this."
"Hey Techy boy," Duck greeted, strolling into Tech's lab.
"What do you want, Duck?" Tech asked, focusing no his work.
"Oh, just wondering when the goodbye party is," Duck said casually.
"Goodbye party? What are you talking about, Duck?"
"Oh you know, for when Skye leaves the team."
"Wh-what? Leaves the team? Very funny Duck," Tech laughed.
"Oh, I'm not joking Tech ole buddy. I just happened to be passing by Lexi's room oh so casually, minding my own business, and heard Skye talking about leaving with her mom and dad back to their planet."
"What? What are you talking about?" Tech asked, getting up from his desk and walking over to Duck.
"It's true! I heard it straight from the horse's - or in this case wolf's - mouth!" he insisted.
"But why wouldn't she tell me about this?" Tech wondered out loud.
"That's what I was wondering. Maybe you two lovebirds should have a chat," Duck suggested, lightly patting Tech on the back as he left the lab.
Later that day, Skye wandered into Tech's lab. "Hey, you've got a minute?"
"Yeah, we need to talk," he said in a serious tone.
"Whoa, so serious," she giggled. But Tech's strict expression killed off her laughter. "What's the matter?" she asked.
"When were you planning on telling me?" He asked with his arms crossed.
"Telling you what?"
"Don't play stupid with me, Skye! You know what I'm talking about!"
"Tech, just tell me what's going on!"
"Why don't you tell me what is going on? I know you're planning on leaving the team!" he shouted.
"Wh-what? How did you-"
"Find out about it? It doesn't matter how, what matters is why you didn't tell me!"
"I was going to!" she argued.
"When? Were you even planning on telling me that you're leaving the team, leaving Acmetropolis? Or were you just going to leave without saying goodbye!"
"Tech, that's not what's going on! I swear!"
"Just- Don't even bother, Skye! Clearly, I'm not important enough to you if you're making all these plans without telling me!"
"Tech!" she cried, reaching out to grab his arm as he made his way out of the lab.
"Just forget it!" he yelled, roughly pulling his arm from her grip, leaving her alone in the lab.
"Skye, sweetheart, so have you made your decision?" Arianna hopefully.
"Yes, I wanna go," she said, putting on a smile.
"But, you don't look too happy about it," Arianna said in concern.
"It's just that… I was going to talk to Tech about it, but apparently he found out about it and just freaked out on me. I was even going to ask if he wanted to come too but he wouldn't let me get a word in or even explain!"
"Oh, darling, if you don't want to go, that's fine!" her mother insisted.
"No, I do, I want to go. I've been waiting years to have you back in my life, mom, and I've always wanted to see what Lupus K9 is like."
Over the next week, Skye informed the team that she would be leaving. Sure enough, they were upset that she would be gone, but wished her happiness, all but Tech that is, who remained silent the entire time and avoided her like the plague. Every time Skye tried to talk to him, he'd find some excuse to leave the room. When it finally came time for them to leave, they all gathered inside the hangar of the tower. Demitri and Arianna were loading things into the ship Zadavia had provided them while Skye said her goodbyes.
"Lexi…"
"I'm gonna miss you!" Lexi cried, hugging Skye tightly.
"I'm gonna miss you too!"
"You give us a call when you get there ok? And don't forget to write!"
"Slam…" Skye smiled.
"Aw, we miss you," he mumbled, hugging her tightly.
"Ah, I'll miss you too, Slam!" she struggled to say her words as the air was squeezed out of her. When he set her down, she took a deep breath before saying, "don't ever change, Slam."
"Are you sure you've packed everything! I just wanna make sure I mean the last thing you want to do is realize you forgot something and have to come all the way back here just to get it which would really make the goodbyes a little awkward since-" Rev rambled on.
"Rev!" she exclaimed, cutting off his long speech. "You take care of yourself, ok?"
"I will," he smiled. "Oh oh oh and make sure you take lots of pictures so we can see everything you're doing well maybe not everything since that would re-he-heally weird."
"Duck," she said curtly.
"Yeah, you, uh, have a good one," he said awkwardly, not sure what else to say.
"Thanks, Duck. Try to stay out of trouble." She moved down the line until she came to the last one. "Ace."
"It's gonna be a little lonely without you, Skye," he said.
"I think you guys'll manage. You were a great crime fighting team before I ever came along and you'll be a great one after I'm gone."
"Maybe, but it won't be the same," he said, putting a hand on her shoulder.
"Here, I suppose I should give this back," she said, handing him her uniform.
"Keep it," he said, pushing it back to her. "You'll need it for when you get back," he said with a smile.
"Thanks," she smiled before looking around. "Tech?"
"We told him when you were leaving. If he hasn't shown up by now… well, I hate to say it but I don't think he's coming," Ace said sadly.
"Yeah, I figured," she sighed. "Would you tell him goodbye for me?"
"Sure, anything else you want me to tell him?" he asked.
"Yeah. Tell him… tell him I'm sorry things didn't work out."
"I really thought you two would go the distance."
"I thought so too. I guess we were both wrong about that," she lamented.
"Skye, it's time to go," her father called.
"Coming!" she called back. "Well, I guess this is it. I'll be back, I promise."
"And we'll be waiting for you."
At last! It's done! After so long! Hope you guys enjoyed the story and thanks for sticking it out with me all this time! If you're interested in the following series (Storm Hawks, Jackie Chan Adventures, Sonic the Hedgehog and How to Train Your Dragon) check out some of my stories. They are about my own characters and more and are stories mostly unrelated to the canon.
This was always how I wanted like, my take on season 1 to go. Not sure when I'll get into season 2 and beyond. And since I've gotten more practice writing more original stories, I'd like to avoid purely rewriting season 2. And obviously, any continuation would focus on getting Skye and Tech back together. But if you think you've got a neat idea for a bad guy encounter and feel like sharing, feel free! I am not accepting OC submissions though, only villain fights, etc.
