AND OH MY GOODNESS I AM OVER 30,000 WORDS!

The promise of firewhiskey was the only reason Jace was still awake. Well, that and they had a wizard to track down before something more happened, something worse than just a little bruise or bad burn or nasty cut—it was practically pathetic that these wizards went after him because of who he was dating. Like a jealous teenager, but in this case the teenager had magical powers and went completely insane.

Sunrise was an hour or so away, and after all he had been through in the past five hours… Well, Sirius had better pull through and bring the good alcohol with him.

And he did, thankfully, but he also brought a crying toddler. Remus carried the kid in his arms. Jace assumed it was Teddy, the metamorphagus offspring of Remus and the late Tonks, her shortened name that Jace honestly preferred after hearing the long awkward and just plain strange name she was given at birth. The boy was jittering and whining in Remus's arms when they walked in the doorway, the werewolf stuggling to keep him calm. Teddy was probably irritated he was up at this ungodly hour.

Jace knew the feeling completely.

"Come on, you can stay in Jace's bedroom," Harry spoke to Teddy softly, even though he kept sobbing wildly. He kissed his godsons forehead and took him there in his arms easily, Jace following behind the two.

After putting the kid in his bedroom—Harry made sure his things, like his dresser and closet couldn't be ruined by Teddy's bursts of magic using his own little magic touch—with his array of toys and even a blanket and pillow brought over in a never-ending-bag, they came back to the main room to talk.

But they tried to and couldn't. Teddy's crying was loud, and Remus couldn't put a silencing charm up because he needed to hear Teddy in case something happened Teddy had to hear him or he'd be worried, so he said.

Remus and Sirius went to his room to calm the kid down, shut him up, and put him to sleep.

Three minutes went by, and Teddy was still crying. Jace felt for the kid, he truly did, but it was giving him a headache to hear it despite how sad it was to listen to.

Harry sighed and stood up. "Maybe he'll be better with me."

When Jace came in a minute later, Harry's words were more than wrong. Teddy might've been worse, in fact. Toys were thrown around his room, and his eyes and cheeks were soaked with tears as he was being cradled in Harry's arms and shushed, like a baby, trying to calm him in any possible way so they could get to talking about the serious matter happening. Remus and Sirius looked almost forlorn, watching Harry try his hardest to make his godson fall asleep.

Harry kissed Teddy's forehead again. "Come on Ted, just close your eyes and sleep. I'll sing you a lullaby, if you want, I'm not very good but I'll try." Teddy just whined loudly, and Harry frowned.

Jace didn't know why he did it, but in seconds Teddy was in his arms and out of Harry's, the wizard gasping when he was taken. The toddlers' arms and legs curled in to Jace's chest, he was so small and fragile, not in just weight but the size of him compared to Jace. He hadn't held a child since Max. Somehow it felt good, having this weight in his arms. What felt better was the silence that came with it. Teddy wasn't crying; he was just looking up at Jace, blinking slowly.

Then he changed. Physically, he transformed, and so suddenly. And Jace saw himself in those eyes, and the blonde hair, and he smiled at the toddler somewhat proudly and the toddler smiled back with such innocence Jace clenched his teeth to stop himself from grinning manically.

Harry put his arm at Jace's waist, smiling down at his godson with him. "You did it. You got him to stop crying."

Jace shrugged. "Wasn't too hard."

Harry rolled his eyes, but smiled still. "You look sleepy," he said to Teddy, who blinked slowly again.

Remus thanked Jace. "I guess he just needed a new face to look at. Or you're good with kids."

Sirius grumbled a thank you after Remus nudged him. "Thanks, I guess."

Jace, with very little sarcasm in his eyes, smirked at Sirius. "Anytime."

The man grit his teeth.

Remus stepped over, and said with a laugh, "Get him to sleep and I'll be a happy wizard."

Teddy spoke suddenly, in grumbled words but they could still understand, "Your eyes are like my daddy's on the full moon." He curled his head into Jace's chest, looking so cute Jace nearly awed—but he was too manly, and to act like a proud mother or something would be weird with the dad right there, and the dad being one of Harry's godfather made it weirder.

Jace just grinned at Teddy's words. "Luminous, right?"

Harry smacked his side. "Your cockiness is showing, love. It might rub off on Teddy and that just won't do." He said this in a sort of teasing voice but Jace knew he meant it.

"All right, let's put you to bed now that you're all calmed down." Remus took the kid from his arms and laid him on Jace's bed with his blanket he brought. Remus asked if he minded that Teddy took his bed away, and Jace shook his head. Teddy needed to sleep, and the four of them needed to talk. He would sacrifice his bed for a while.

Harry squeezed him tight. "You're good with kids?" he asked, curiosity in his tone.

Jace shrugged, hands automatically moving to hold Harry's hips. "Alec and I were always the best with baby Max. He fell asleep right in my arms one night. Maryse couldn't pry him from me no matter how hard she tried."

Harry kissed him sweetly, looking up at him through thick lashes. "It's those luminous eyes of yours. No one wants to be pried away from them." He smiled brightly.

Jace chuckled, and was about to kiss him more when Sirius stepped over, breaking the mood. He took Harry's hand, eyes burning with hate at Jace, and pulled him from the room, saying, "Let's go before we have a screaming toddler again."

Jace glared at the back of his head.

Remus patted his shoulder, startling him a bit. He had a look to him, that kindness he saw when first meeting him, that Jace figured was supposed to be comforting. He wasn't comforted, he was just pissed at Sirius for taking his Harry away. But he tried not to glare at the werewolf.

Remus kept smiling like he wasn't affected by Jace's sour mood. "Don't worry," he said. "He'll come around. Have a drink with him and he might just end up loving you." Remus walked out, smiling back at him before leaving in the darkness of the hallway.

Jace sighed. It didn't look that easy. And whatever looked difficult, ended up being more than just difficult for him. It was usually nearly impossible.

But he always prevailed. He was Jace Lightwood, defeater of Valentine, ender of a war—well, not alone, he had help with his family and close allies—and he was going to win over Harry's godfather no matter what it took. If it took drinking firewhiskey until he had to take out a kidney, then so be it.

Looking back at the sleeping toddler in his giant bed, so small and unaware of the danger waiting for his godfather, Jace stood a bit taller and walked out, shutting the door behind him softly.

Don't be shy and comment or even PM me if you want :) I'm friendly, I promise!

QUESTION: Should I have more Teddy in this? In the future have Harry and Jace babysit him or something so Remus and Sirius could have some vacation time and Andy could get some rest, too? Just curious :)
