Chapter 10: Adrenaline – Shinedown
As beads of sweat trail down Diana Waltz's forehead and down her neck, she takes a light jog back towards her apartment in the Shinigami realm. It's mid-spring and Diana is coming back from working out on her combat skills out in the open fields near the R.A.G. As she glances down to unzip her workout jacket, she almost runs into a firm body of a male. Leaping back a few inches, she snaps into her fighting stance, her fire orange ponytail waving in the wind.
"Well, looks like someone's on edge, huh Diana?" The recognizable playful tone of Ronald Knox's voice rang out. Sighing with relief, Diana ran a hand through her spiked bangs.
"Sorry Ron, I've been jumpy since I've been training my senses this afternoon. It puts your senses on edge, especially when you've been doing it as long as I've been doing it." Diana called back as she adjusted her black jogging shorts and her shin high combat boots. "Well, I should get going the sun starts to go down."
"How 'bout we put that sensitive sense training to use now shall we?" Ron replied with a playful grin, pulling his sweater over his head and tossing it to the side and rolling up the cuffs of his t-shirt. Diana gave a questioning glance from behind her modified glasses.
"You sure about that hot shot?" She asked as she slipped off her jacket and threw it on the knob of a door. Ronald rolled his neck and bounced a few times.
"Born ready sweet cheeks."
"I'll make you eat those words." Diana smirked as she watched Ron dash at her. Ron threw punch after punch, aiming at her head but she easily blocked with her wrists as she moved back. At one last attempt to land a blow, he aimed a power-punch at her torso. Diana then grabbed his fist, boosted up herself upwards and struck a knee to his face. Staggering backwards, Ron held a hand to his face as he groaned in pain. Diana gasped as she touched his shoulder, shocked that she went hard on him.
"Oh Ron, I'm-" Diana was cut off when Ronald gripped her hand on his shoulder, pulling her arm over it. She cried out when her back hit the concrete, her arm still held by Ron. She quickly rolled over, knocking him off balance. When he was trying to stay standing, she grabbed his elbow and placed her foot on his stomach, flipping him on the ground beside her.
"You're a hard opponent, aren't ya?" Ron called as they both got up at the same time. They circled each other for a few moments.
"Don't underestimate me Knox." Diana replied as she jumped up and dropped her heel towards Ron's head. He dodged it but wasn't given a break when she did a roundhouse kick to his side. He caught it and flashed Diana a smirk as he spun her into a lamppost. She grunted as she brought up her other leg to sweep under his legs. He crashed to the ground as Diana launched herself at him, her fist drawn back as Ronald squeezed his eyes shut.
Moments passed and there was still no surge of pain nor was there an impact. Ronald blinked a couple of times as he stared at the image before him. There Diana stood, sweat beading her chocolate skin as she slightly panted. Her fist was no longer at the tip of his nose, instead there was an accepting hand outstretched to him, waiting for him to take it. Ronald grasped the hand and heaved his own moist body up.
"Heh, nice job Knox. That was some intense adrenaline right there." Diana called as she lightly punched his arm.
"Not bad yourself, fire-head."
"I told you not to call me that, Ronnie-boy." Diana replied in a mocking tone. They both laughed it off as they went the same way down the road, the sun painting the sky calm colors on the horizon.
