Allen sat forlornly in the soft sand with his knees pulled up close to his body. Lenalee, Kanda, Komui, and Lavi sat scattered around him, conversing and generally having a good time. Meanwhile Allen was sulking, inner turmoil threatening to devour him whole. That little thing with Lavi and the blonde woman had really hit him hard, a little too hard, and the poor confused teen didn't know how to sort through his feelings just yet.

Lenalee jostled his shoulder with a sympathetic smile on her face.

"Kanda told me what happened, Lavi's a real jerk." The green haired girl said softly, her smile turning into a slight frown as she turned to said English teacher who was trying to catch the attention of another pretty girl no doubt. Allen shrugged halfheartedly, he knew Lenalee meant well but he'd prefer to be alone right now. He also realized that Lavi being with that woman really bugged him.

"I'm gonna go get a drink..." Allen lied and stood up from the warm sand. Lenalee nodded and mentioned that she'd be with Kanda if he needed anything. Allen smiled, at least someone will have a fun time here, they don't need me to dampen the mood...

Lenalee watched as the somber teen walked away, then turned around and focused her anger on the laughing red head that chatted boisterously with a pretty brunette. With a furtive glare Lenalee stomped over and let her rage out with one single flick of the wrist.

"OW!" Lavi was surprised to hear his own voice whine in pain and turned carefully to the culprit who had been heartlessly tugging on his ear. He was face to face with an agitated Lenalee who glared at him intensely.

"Go talk to Allen." The girl practically hissed.

"Why?"

Lenalee gave an exasperated sigh and pointed to the shady spot by the cove where Allen was presently walking towards. Lav's uncovered green eye narrowed a bit.

"Why do I have to go cheer him up? You're his best frien- OW!" Lenalee's grip intensified on his ear.

"OKAY! OKAY! FINE!" Lavi consented, walking away while rubbing his throbbing ear and grumbling about how he didn't do anything. Lenalee sighed again.

"If only you knew Lavi..."

Allen leaned against the back wall of the beach cafe, which was currently alive with laughter, soft orange lights, and the casual clinking of tableware. The boy slid slowly down the wall until he landed on his butt. He then gave an enormous sigh and stared out at the impossibly blue ocean. Why did his life have to be so difficult?

"Hey." Allen heard a familiar voice say from behind him and looked up into an emerald colored eye. Allen didn't know what to think of him right now. His presence made the young teen feel conflicted yet his heart fluttered nervously around in his chest. He was just so confused! What do I say? What do I think? Lavi sat down cross-legged in the sand next to Allen. The sun had gone down and the sky was now a darkish blue, reflecting the color of the ocean. Lavi was just as stumped as Allen was, he didn't know what to do to remedy the situation. Usually if a girl was pissed off, he'd hold her hand, tell her some sweet line and swoop in for a kiss but Allen wasn't just some girl, he was his student. What was he supposed to do?

"Um, listen..." Lavi started, rubbing the back of his head nervously. He had caught the young boy's attention and was now staring into his silvery eyes. Jeez, this is like some cheesy romance movie. Lavi thought lightheartedly. He let out an exasperated sigh and looked away, I guess the best thing to do right now is... apologize? But for what? What was Allen even upset about? Screw it, Lavi thought, figuring that he'd just blurt it out all at once.

"Allen, i'm really sor-"

*bang*

His apology was interrupted by a loud noise and a dazzling spark of light. The fireworks show had started, leaving Lavi unable to finish his sentence and Allen in awe of the colorful flashes of light. A small smile spread across Lavi's face and he decided an apology can wait, he then put an arm around Allen's shoulders and pulled him in close. Instantly the younger blushed.

"L-Lavi...um-" He stuttered, unable to make eye contact.

"Shh, watch the fireworks." The red head grinned, and laid his head on top of Allen's. By now Allen's face had turned strawberry red but he said nothing more and settled on just watching the fireworks light up the night sky. Of course Allen was still unsure of his feelings, but he decided to go with what his heart was screaming and stayed in that spot with Lavi's arms around him.

When the fireworks had ended a few minutes later the two reluctantly got up and made their way over to their waiting friends. As they walked Allen had to double check that his cheeks weren't red anymore, making Lavi chuckle and tease him relentlessly.

"Hey!" Lenalee shouted, waving enthusiastically at them. She was overjoyed to see them together, I am SO shipping them! She thought as they they reunited with the rest of the group. Once everyone had gotten together, the group started for the parking lot. Lavi, Kanda and Komui were in front, while Lenalee stayed in the back of the group to talk to Allen. Allen looked like he was in brighter spirits, and guessing that Lavi was the reason, Lenelee decided that she would ask him about it.

"Hey Allen~ you look happy...what were you and Lavi up to behind the beach cafe?" she teased, wrapping her beach towel tighter around her shoulders. Allen blushed a bit before looking off to the side and Lenalee giggled. If what these two have isn't love then I don't know what is.

When they got to the parking lot they realized just how bad their situation was. "It's too late to take the bus home..." Komui stated, looking up at the already pitch black sky. A mischievous grin crossed Lavi's face, "Of course, i'll drive us all hom-"

"NO!" The group of teens all shouted in unison, making Lavi raise his hands defensively and chuckle. Komui looked at them perplexed but said nothing about the situation.

What a day! Allen thought in exhaustion as he opened the door to his house. He didn't take more than two steps inside before loud whistling and chirping could be heard from farther in.

"What...is that..." Allen said aloud and raised an eyebrow, walking cautiously into the kitchen. Immediately a flash of gold crossed his vision and he was almost assaulted by a flying... thing? Allen panicked and he attempted to swat at whatever it was that flew past him.

"What the-!?"

"Ah, idiot apprentice." Cross said from across the room. Allen had been so busy with his assailant that he hadn't even noticed the man sitting in his usual armchair. Finally, whatever it was stopped flying and settled itself on Allen's shoulder lovingly. He could see clearly that it wasn't a 'thing,' it was a golden yellow canary bird.

"This is Timcanpy." Cross stated, gesturing to the bird.

"From now on you'll be taking care of him for me." Cross announced before walking out the door. Allen could only respond with a blank stare. In his bewildered state he didn't know what to say or do. Did Cross just give him a pet? Allen scrambled after his master and stopped in the doorway, yelling after the man.

"Wait! How am I suppose to take care of it? I've never had a pet in my entire life!" Allen tried to reason but Cross just ignored him, walking down the driveway.

"You can do it, I believe in you." Cross said halfheartedly, smirking as he did. Allen's shoulders slumped in defeat as he watched his master drive off. When the car was out of sight, Allen sighed and walked inside, locking the door behind him. Once inside he crashed face first onto the couch with Timcanpy chattering excitedly next to him. Allen then sat up and grabbed for a couch cushion, then screamed into it in an attempt to relieve stress. Life was being really unfair to him, but hey what else is new? When he finally stopped screaming, his throat felt sore so he got up and walked to the kitchen for some water. He padded across the cool kitchen floor and pulled out a plastic bottle of water from the fridge, chugging it down. Timcanpy followed and landed on his favorite spot, Allen's shoulder. When Allen had drank half the bottle's contents he stopped and sighed, smiling when Timcanpy nuzzled his cheek with his soft feathers.

"You're a little ball of trouble y'know that?" Allen glared at the bird softly and ruffled Timcanpy's golden feather's. Timpcanpy responded by biting Allen's finger with his beak, which hurts a lot worse than it sounds...

"Ow! Hey, you-" Allen was cut off by his cellphone ringing and the young teen walked quickly back into the living room to answer it. He looked at the caller I.D and scowled when he saw that it was Cross.

"Yes." Allen answered sharply, still a little peeved at the man. Allen could hear the sounds of giggling women and what sounded like a drinking party at a bar in the background.

-Ah, idiot apprentice! I forgot to mention this earlier. Take Timcanpy to that vet that specializes in birds! He needs his shots-

"What!? But that's on the other side of town! How am I suppose to get there, I don't have a car like some people." Allen tried to reason.

-Marian sweetie, want me to pour you another glass?- Some woman asked seductively in the background and Allen could hear Cross smirk from over the phone.

-I'm a bit busy so you'll have to find other means of transportation- Cross replied, earning an incredulous glare from a certain white haired boy. The noises of the party were getting louder and Allen had to strain his ear to hear Cross at this point.

"He's your pet! You should be the one taking care of him anyway!- Allen growled. This was getting annoying. Timcanpy just tilted his head to the side at the whole situation, but stayed quiet besides an occasional chirp.

-Well now he's your responsibility, this isn't a problem. Just ask your boyfriend to drive you-

After that statement Cross hung up, leaving Allen stuttering into the phone.

"H-HE IS NOT MY BOYFRIEND AND YOU KNOW I- uh... hello?" Allen deadpanned when he heard the beeping of the dial tone and threw his cellphone across the room. He then sat there grumbling about it for a moment with Timcanpy perched on his shoulder. He didn't want to bother Lavi with his own problems, besides he wasn't in the mood for dying from the red head's poor driving skills. Allen sighed, It was pretty clear that he had no choice, so he called up his teacher.

Timcanpy stared curiously out the window of the moving car, Allen smiled and pet the birds soft golden feathers. What can he say? The little guy really grew on him.

However, the fact that he was playing with the little canary wasn't because he felt like it, it was so he didn't have to make eye contact with Lavi who was driving like a madman as always. After the trip to the beach and the little... fireworks scene, Allen felt really awkward when he was around the red head. This made him feel kind of stupid because Lavi acted like nothing changed.

"So Cross gave you a pet? That's unusually nice of him." Lavi grinned, making Allen blush. What is with him and blushing around this guy? All he did was ask a simple question! Allen thought nervously, scolding himself in his mind.

"Uh yeah, well more like he dumped him on me. However, I don't really mind." Allen said truthfully, staring at Timcanpy's golden feathers in awe as the bird poked his head out of the window like a dog would. After that there was a pleasant silence and the car ride was almost nice, peaceful even... that is until Lavi hit a pothole in the street and Timcanpy fell out of the window.

"OH MY GOD LAVI!" Allen shrieked as the red head slammed the brakes.

"Relax Allen, he's a bird!" Lavi stated nervously as he pointed to the spot where Timcanpy hovered in the sky. Allen let out a sigh of relief when Timcanpy flew in through the open window and settled in Allen's lap. Allen checked him over for injuries, satisfied when he found nothing to be amiss.

"You really should get him a cage..." Lavi chimed, invoking a murderous glare from Allen.

"Drive carefully please." The young teen snapped, forcing a shiver down Lavi's spine. He's kinda scary when he's angry... Lavi thought bitterly, a bit annoyed that the small teen could actually scare him. They arrived at the veterinarian animal hospital a little later. Allen scooped Timcanpy up from his resting place on his lap and put him on his shoulder, then walked inside the building. Lavi strolled in after him and eyed the receptionist slyly. Her face was buried in a pile of paperwork and she looked nervous, like it was her first day. She had black braided pigtails and a white doctor's coat while sporting a charming set of glasses which added to her cute geeky appearance. When Allen and Lavi made it to the front desk she hadn't even looked up.

"Excuse me, miss?" Allen asked politely, waiting for her to look up. She didn't, but spoke to him slowly as she checked over her paperwork in a daze.

"Oh i'm sorry, you're probably the 4:00 appointment, Mr. Allen Walk-" She stopped when she finally looked up at his face. Instantly she blushed and her cheeks heated up.

"Ah- I'm s-sorry, I um...I haven't even introduced myself! I'm Fa Lou! No that's not right! I'm Lou Fa!" She spazzed, waving her arms around and knocking over her coffee onto the fresh white sheets of paper.

"Aaaaaggghhhh!" She shrieked, as she tried to gather all the soiled sheets. Allen looked up at Lavi questioningly and the red head just shrugged. Allen sighed and walked forward, making Timcanpy fly off his shoulder. He then leaned over the desk and began to collect the papers for Lou Fa.

"Oh t-that's alright Mr. Walker! I c-can get them on my-"

"It's alright." Allen said with a small smile and gathered the last of the papers. Her cheeks burned a bright red when his hand brushed against hers as he handed her the stack.

"Um, M-Mr. Bak will see your pet bird now..."She stuttered nervously, and sat back down in her chair. Allen thanked her and walked out of the room while Lavi stared after her thoughtfully. It's obvious that she likes him. Is Allen really that dense? Lavi thought with a frown as he watched the white haired boy go into the office. He decided he'd wait outside and maybe give a girl or two a quick call.

Allen emerged from the office not too long later with an agitated Timcanpy floating behind him. Allen rubbed his ear tearfully and walked over to where Lavi was leaning against the wall.

"What's up short stack, why so gloomy?" Lavi asked with a smirk.

"Timcanpy wasn't too happy to receive his shots and decided to take it out on my ear." Allen replied, shooting a glance at the obviously pissed off canary bird. Lavi laughed as they walked back into the main lobby. Allen waved politely at Lou Fa who blushed, and Lavi nodded his head in her direction to be polite. They hopped back in Lavi's car and the red head didn't hesitate to speed this time. Allen stared sullenly out the window while holding Timcanpy in his lap and petting his feathers. Lavi noticed the young teen's downcast mood but didn't say anything.

To be honest Allen didn't want to deal with Cross and his bull right now. He could just imagine a smirk painted on his face and his taunting voice, "How was your date idiot apprentice? Did you two kiss? Why don't you go live with him?"

Allen glared out the window and Timcanpy chirped angrily as Allen started stroking his feathers too roughly. Lavi couldn't take this depressing mood anymore.

"Okay, what's the deal with you? I know teenagers are angsty but holy-"

"I... kinda don't want to go home tonight." Allen growled and cut him off, he meant for it to come out in an irritated manner, but who WOULDN'T take that the wrong way? Lavi's eyes widened a bit before his lips curled up in a smile.

"I see~" The red head grinned, and they drove to his apartment in silence. Allen didn't realize what he said before he was standing on the front porch of Lavi's house. He nervously looked at the familiar front door and blushed as a sudden rush of memories came back to him from the last time he was here. Hey, at least he has an excuse to get his clothes back...
