The snow brought the children to them.
At first glance, they were lumps in the snow; at first glance, perhaps a tire or other large object buried beneath the thick powder. But Dark Wolf sniffed them out, and told his master otherwise.
He sensed the spirit coming off of them in waves.
Daidouji's hands flew to the vibrating beyblade in his pocket, feeling its excitement. Dark Wolf had a hair-trigger sensitivity to outstanding power. Daidouji loosed it from the launcher, and its path immediately honed in on the lump beneath the snow.
Later, Daidouji contemplated on how lucky he'd been to have found them right then; surely in another hour or so, hypothermia would have extinguished their power from the world once and for all.
He got down on his knees in the snow, ignoring the crystals soaking through his pinstripes, and raked the snow away from the two shivering bodies of a pair of children. Both were boys, both looking to be about two or three years old. There was nothing remarkable about them - not at first glance. But Dark Wolf was still trembling. It could sense something invisible to Daidouji's limited senses.
So he pulled off the heavy coat he wore over his suit jacket and wrapped it around the unconscious children, lifting them up in it. They were so small that they hardly warranted the label of 'burden'. But he never doubted Dark Wolf for a second.
Two hours later, the children awoke before the fire place in the big hall. Daidouji's excitement mounted as Dark Wolf once again quivered, feeling their spirit more intensely as they woke. The first got to his feet, immediately taking a protective position over the second.
"Don't be frightened", Daidouji told him. "I found you in the snow. You've only just woken up."
Wobbly on his feet, the child was barely managing to stay standing. "Where are we?"
"You are in a safe place now. What are your names?"
The boy introduced himself as Ryuga, and his brother as Ryuto. Ryuga was, in fact, five years old, but exceptionally small for his age. Could one of these be the child Daidouji had been looking for? One with enough potential and strength to someday wield the beyblade of legend, L-Drago?
If so, which brother was stronger?
Was anybody looking for them? Would he have to wrangle them away from unsuspecting parents, fake deaths right and left, possibly cause them?
Thus, the questions began. But the best approach was to focus on the now. With one question, it was verified that the children had no parents. And with one glance, it was apparent that under no circumstances would the consent to being separated.
At the prospect of training, Ryuga was immediately enthralled. A warm home, a real bed, hot food, and unlimited access to a stadium? It was like coming home.
Best of all, he and Ryuto could stay together.
Ryuga already had a beyblade, a Storm Dragoon, but the guy who had found them said he could get a better one if he did really good.
"Are you gonna be our dad?" asked Ryuga.
"Something like that."
At first glance, things were going to be pretty sweet.
