Hope you enjoy.

The Pharaoh and the Prince

Previously…

Atemu was standing on the balcony watching the entire exchange. He was watching them argue over the "betrothal" and his anger was increasing every time they mentioned it. Yuugi was his and no one was going to take him away. He was so wrapped up in listening to the conversation that he didn't hear the person walking up behind him until it was too late.

Back down by the entrance the arguments were stopped by the sound of a scream. Everyone looked up to see someone falling from the balcony. Yuugi's eyes went wide and he gasped in shock.

"ATEMU!"

Chapter 8

Everyone stood in shock as Atemu continued to plummet towards the ground, the only sound was that of Yuugi's screams. However there was one person who did not freeze, Amethyst. Using her magic, she propelled herself into the air and caught Atemu. The symbols on her skin glowed bright gold and she slowed the descent until they both landed softly on the ground.

After they landed Yuugi ran over to them and fell to ground next to Atemu. He was unconscious, his skin was turning pale, and his breathing was labored.

"Atemu!" Yuugi cried gripping his hand. "Please wake up. Please. Why won't he wake up?" He asked Amethyst who was checking Atemu over with her magic.

"The knife." She said pulling Yuugi attention to the knife that was imbedded in Atemu's left side. "It seems to have been poisoned. Yuugi, I need you to pull the knife out for me."

"Why me?"

"You are the most readily available person. You have to pull it out quickly so I can extract the poison before it spreads more then I should also be able to heal the wound."

"Okay." Yuugi said moving over to Atemu's left side and gripping the handle of the knife.

"On the count of three then." Amethyst said putting her hand right next to where the end of the knife was. "One. Two." Yuugi's grip on the knife tightened as he prepared to pull. "Three." Yuugi pulled the knife straight out and Amethyst put her hand over the wound and started to chant a spell.

"Fel extrahe, quod eum in corde suo. Signum autem, ut vulnus corporis laesionem. Hic totus fac iterum." She repeated this five times before she took her hand away. The wound was healed, leaving no scar, and Atemu's color had returned as he rested peacefully. "Have him taken to the Prince's room. No one is to enter aside from the Prince, the Emperor, his head healer, or myself." She said to two guards who rushed over and lifted the unconscious Pharaoh into their arms and carried him away with Yuugi and Isis following close behind.

Behind her Joey, Ryou, Malik, and Tristan all landed on the ground with their heads bowed. She turned to face then seeing that they did not have the attempted assassin only a black cloak. She waited patiently for everyone to enter the palace before she addressed them.

"Rise." She said and they all stood. "What happened?"

"We were unable to find the assassin." Joey said.

"However we did find the assassin's cloak." Ryou said holding up a black cloak. "It seems the Pharaoh was able to get a hit or two in before he was stabbed." He continued as he handed Amethyst the cloak.

Amethyst examined the cloak. It was made of a fine material, Egyptian cotton it seemed, something that a commoner would never be able to get their hands on less they stole it. Her eyes then fell to the knife laying on the ground in a shallow puddle of the Pharaoh's blood. There was something about the knife that she recognized. She summoned it to her hand and after looking it over she realized where it was from. It was the knife given to all members of the council for protection.

"Isn't that a council knife?" Malik asked staring at the weapon as the other three looked as well.

"Indeed." She said gripping the handle tight in her hand.

"It explains everything." Tristan said "The knives that were given to the council were coated in a highly lethal poison that could only be healed by an experienced sorceress or sorcerer."

"Exactly." Amethyst responded her grip tightening even more. "You four go and find the council and bring them to the throne room. If you need grab other members of the Mage Guard and bring them there as well. I shall go and get the Emperor and explain the situation. We will go and check on the Pharaoh and then meet you in the throne room. Understood."

"Yes, Master." They all said.

"Di tibi super ducere." She said.

"Di tibi super ducere." They repeated with a bow before transporting themselves to the Mage Guard quarters.

Meanwhile in Yuugi's room. Isis had just finished checking Atemu over, who was still unconscious on the bed. She deemed that all he needed now was rest and left Yuugi alone with him. Yuugi was kneeling on the side of the bed gripping Atemu's hand. He was still silently crying with his head down when he heard a groan from the bed. He looked up to see Atemu's eyes beginning to open.

"Atemu!" He exclaimed "Are you alright?"

"Yuugi?" He said before groaning "What happened?"

"You were stabbed and pushed over the railing of the balcony. The blade was poisoned. Amethyst was able to heal you and now she is looking for your attacker."

"You've been crying." Atemu stated seeing how Yuugi's eyes were red and the lines running down his face.

"Of course I've been crying." Yuugi said with a slight laugh "I thought you were going to die."

"Well I'm not." Atemu said putting his hand on Yuugi cheek and pulling him close so there lips were inches from each other "And I don't plan to anytime soon."

Atemu then closed the gap between the two of them and started a heated kiss filled with relief and comfort. Just as they were about to start anything really serious they heard someone cough behind them. They broke the kiss and turned to see a smirking Amethyst and a slightly blushed Emperor standing in the door.

"You two might want to hold off until the Pharaoh has gotten a good sleep." Amethyst said as she moved to the side of the bed and sat down "How are you feeling by the way? Any pain? Do you feel sick?"

"No just a little tired." Atemu said.

"Well that's good. I thought there might be a little of the poison left in your system."

"I was poisoned?"

"The knife that stabbed you was coated in a magical poison only a few can remove." Amethyst said "I would know I was the one who charmed the knife."

"What!?" Atemu shouted sitting up further and glaring at her.

"I charmed them and gave them to the council for protection." She said not affected by the glare "I have already ordered my guard to retrieve the council. They will be taken to the throne room."

"Very well." Atemu said starting to move to stand up before Amethyst put her hand on his shoulder.

"You will stay here and Yuugi will come with us." Atemu made a move to protest when she cut him off "You were just stabbed, poisoned, and pushed 30 stories to your death I think you can allow for us to handle this."

"Just stay here and rest Atemu." Yuugi said pushing lightly on his shoulders till he was laying down "I'll tell you what happened when I get back." He gave Atemu a quick peck on the lips before leaving the room. Atemu watched as the door closed leaving him alone in the room.

"So how did the meeting go?" Atemu asked Yuugi who was taking off all his jewelry.

"It went well." Yuugi said "The council denied the accusations at first but then we found that Marcus's dagger was missing and tied him to the attack. My father banished them and Seth said if they were found in Egypt they would be killed on sight."

"So nothing bad happened?"

"Nope...well...other than the arguing and heavy swearing." Yuugi said with a smile and sat on the bed "My father also cancelled the banquet that was planned for tonight and we will have everything tomorrow instead."

"Why'd he do that?" Atemu asked.

"Probably cause he knows that I would want to stay with you for the evening." Yuugi said lying next to Atemu and cuddling up to his chest "Besides you probably wouldn't want me going to the banquet all alone." Atemu looked down at him and raised a questioning eyebrow "At the banquet...alone...with all those visiting princes and princesses who want to improve there status in the world by marrying me." Atemu's eyes widened in realization.

"If they so much as try to touch you they will be missing a hand and quite possibly a head." Atemu said with an angry look in his eyes.

"Aren't you glad my father cancelled the banquet now?"

"Very." Atemu said giving him a kiss.

The next day was abuzz with different activities. Yuugi and Atemu had a private breakfast in their room but their peace was short lived because soon after they finished a pair of servants came rushing to help ready Yuugi for the day. Atemu's servants came and got him ready and when the were finished he sat and waited for Yuugi to come out of the bathing chamber.

When Yuugi came out he was dressed in a white tunic and kilt with a golden sash wrapped around his waist and amethyst cape, attach around his neck by a pair of golden clasps, cascading down his back. His eyes are outlined in kohl and his body is covered in golden jewelry. Upon his head sits a small golden crown which is simple in design but elegantly decorated with amethyst jewels and shining diamonds.

"How do I look?" Yuugi asked spinning in a small circle.

"Like a true prince." Atemu said as he grabbed Yuugi around his waist. He gave him a passionate kiss, Yuugi wrapped his arms around Atemu for support as Atemu deepened the kiss further. They would have continued had it not been for a knock at the door.

"What?" groaned Yuugi having answered only because it was his room.

"We are ready for you now," Amethyst said through the door "So stop making out with the pharaoh and both of you come to the balcony entrance."

"We'll be right there." Yuugi yelled a blush on his face at what Amethyst had said. He heard her give a quick laugh before she left to go back to the balcony.

"So are you ready, little one." Atemu asked.

"As ready as I'll ever be." He replied with a smile. Atemu smiled and took Yuugi's hand. Together they walked out the door making their way towards the balcony.

They could hear the cheers long before they reached the balcony. When they got there Amethyst was waiting with Bakura, Marik, Jou, Honda, Akefia, Mariku, and Seto. Amethyst quickly explained how why the yami's were in control (she wanted to be double sure that no one would get hurt) and how they would be introduced and presented to the people. After they would have the banquet with the visiting dignitaries.

"My people," they heard Emperor Darkshadow shout "May I present my son, your prince Yuugi and his new teacher the Ruler of Upper and Lower Egypt, the Pharaoh Atemu."

Together Yuugi and Atemu walked out onto the balcony to see a large crowd of people who were screaming and crying with joy at the safe return of their beloved prince. They cried "long live prince Yuugi" and "thank the gods for our prince's return". Yuugi smiled at the crowd enjoying the attention and praise he was receiving from the people but he was still quite nervous for what was to come. The banquet.

That's it. The next chapter will be the banquet and them returning to Egypt. Please review :)
