As you may have noticed, the last chapter was only around 800 words. This is because I figured I might not go through another state of hibernation when it comes to releasing chapters if I shorten them.
Thanks for reading.
Night time.
Adam woke up and looked over at Saeko. She was still sleeping. 'She must be pretty tired. Poor thing.'
Adam silently got up and checked on the others. Lily was still sleeping spread eagle and using up as much as the space as she could on the guest bed. Adam shrugged. 'At least she's comfy.' He thought.
He looked into Kimby's room and saw her sitting on the edge of the bed. Adam snuck into the room and whispered to her. "Everything okay?"
Kimby looked over her shoulder. "Yeah, I just couldn't sleep" She smiled at him; He smiled back, then walked over and sat beside her.
"Have you been doing okay Kimby?" Adam asked. "Yeah, I'm fine." Kimby said. "How about you?" She said while smiling. "I'm fine, thanks."
He sat beside her on the edge of the bed. She was staring down at the floor, as if in thought. Then out of nowhere, Adam pulled her into a side hug.
"Adam, w-w-what are you doing?" Kimby asked, obviously flustered. "We all have our secrets." He said while staring out into space. Kimby stared at him with a blush, mouth slightly open.
"We all have our pains. Our joys. Our hopes. Our dreams…" He looked over and down at her with a serious face. "Here, you're safe; no one will ever hurt you while I'm still around." He slowly smiled. "Not you, not Lily, and not Saeko."
Adam looked Kimby straight into her beautiful eyes.
"Ever…"
Adam was putting Kimby back to sleep; she needed it, as she worried too much. "Thanks, Adam."
She said with a small smile, while drifting off into sleep. He kissed her on the forehead after her breathing slowed, then turned and quietly walked to the door, quietly opening, then closing it behind him.
Adam breathed a sigh of relief. 'Man, caring for these girls sure is troublesome' He had the making of a small smile on his weary face. 'But… they're worth it.'
Adam was just walking back into the living room when out of nowhere, his hood was jerked behind him, and he stumbled backwards. 'Shhhhhhiii-' As he finished stumbling, he spun around to see Lily staring at him.
Adam said in a whisper. "Oh Lily, it's just you. You scared me there for a second." He crouched down to get closer to her level. "Need something?"
She continued to stare at him with her trademark blank face. Adam just continued to awkwardly stare back. "Do you-" Lily grabbed a hold of Adam's hood again and pulled him to the guest bedroom, crawled onto the bed and yanked him along.
Lily lied down and got under the covers, hugging on Adam, and closed her eyes, seeming comfy. Adam just stared at her with a kind of surprised expression on his face. "Um, lil-" Lily's eyes shot open and she stared daggers at him.
Adam just lied there and didn't say anything else. Lily closed her eyes again and fell asleep. Pretty quickly, too. Adam just decided it would be easier if he just did the same and didn't argue with her. He closed his eyes and rested.
Adam woke up. To a hand on his mouth, and a small one at that.
Upon further inspection he saw that it was Lily's hand. Of course it was her hand. Lily was fast asleep, so Adam went ahead and slowly took her hand off his face and got up out of bed.
As he was tiptoeing to the door, he had a tug on his hoodie. He clenched his eyes shut in a kind of guilty manner and slowly turned to see a bedraggled Lily staring up at him. "Good morning, Lily." Adam whispered.
Lily stared up at Adam and then walked around to his back, to jump up on him. She crawled up his back and wrapped her arms around his neck and Adam held her up, guessing that she was the type to whip a horse instead of using treats.
Adam sighed and walked out of the room, into the kitchen and started making breakfast. Soon after he started, both Kimby and Saeko woke up and groggily sat at the table. While Adam was making breakfast, he glanced over and saw Kimby sort of jealously staring at Lily, who was still on his back. 'Why are people always staring in my general direction?' Adam sighed again and got to cooking.
