Connor quickly called for a taxi to take them to the hospital. Once the car arrived, he helped Imogen into the back and got in beside her.

"Is the lass alright?" the taxi driver spoke, seeing the girl in a state in his rear view mirror.

"Yeah she'll be fine... I think..." Connor sighed. He knew she wouldn't talk, not yet at least. He just had to get her to talk to the police.

The taxi driver nodded and drove toward Greenock General.

Imogen just stared ahead as she numbly walked by Connor's side, flinching slightly whenever she saw something in the corner of her eye.

"Connor I can't do this..." she said quietly, biting her lip. She hated feeling so... so weak, so scared of her own shadow.

Connor stopped at the doors to A&E and he turned her so she faced him. He gently lifted her head so he could look her in the eye. "Yes you can. You're the strongest person I know, and I'll be with you all the way, okay?" he told her, and hugged her tightly when he saw the tears fall from her eyes. "It's okay..."

"But I... I let-"

"Stop." he cut her off firmly, and bit his lip when she visibly flinched at his tone. "Sorry... but don't you dare, ever, blame yourself. Ever. You didn't let him do anything. If I know you, and I do, then I know you would have fought for your life. Judging by the state of you, I'm right. You did nothing wrong."

Imogen nodded slightly. "Okay... okay let's do it..." she sighed shakily, wiping her eyes.

Connor kept her close as they walked into the hospital and he led her to the front desk.

"You alright there, love?" the receptionist asked kindly.

Imogen bit her lip, looking to Connor, who gave her a nod of encouragement and she looked back to the woman. "I need to see someone..."

"What do you need to see someone about?" the woman asked.

"I... I w-was attacked..." Imogen forced herself to say.

"Right, okay I'll get someone to you as quickly as possible okay? Can I ask who you are to her?" the woman looked to Connor.

"I'm her husband." Connor said. "She called me and told me what happened and I got to her fast and got her here..."

Imogen nodded slightly as confirmation.

The woman nodded and lead the couple down a corridor, Imogen reaching up to switch off her hearing aids. She put her hand out to stop a passing nurse. "Kate I need you to look after this girl. She needs to be seen immediately she was attacked."

Kate nodded. "Thanks Jess... Come on then love let's get you in here." She lead Imogen to the nearest cubicle. "Get up on there and I'll get you a gown to change in to. What's your name then?"

Imogen remained silent as she climbed on to the hospital bed.

Connor watched for a moment and gently tapped her arm, feeling a stab in his heart when she flinched away and looked up.

"Sorry..." She muttered when she refocused on Connor.

Connor sighed softly and started to sign to her, "Don't be sorry, I know you're scared."

"Oh, she's deaf?" Kate asked, looking at him.

Connor nodded. "Yeah but she normally keeps her hearing aids switched on, she must've switched them off when we were shown here... I taught myself all of this so I can still talk to her... And her name is Imogen."

"Oh how sweet of you." The nurse smiled briefly and then frowned, looking at her. "She might want to switch them back on, I'll need to check her over and the police will need to be called."

Connor bit his lip. "It should never have even happened... But what was I meant to do? We thought it was her friend who wanted to meet her, and I never tell her she can't do anything."

"It won't help if you blame yourself. She'll need you, and from what I can see, you're lucky to have found each other."

Connor shrugged. He looked back to Imogen and started sign again, 'Switch them back on, she needs to check you over.'

"I don't want to." Imogen said brokenly.

'I know you don't... But you have to, and I'll be there with you.' Connor signed and held her hand in his, silently promising and pleading with her.

Imogen sighed softly and reached up to switch the hearing aids back on. "Okay what do I have to do...?"

"You need to sit still for me, and I just need to have a quick look at you and a little bit of an examination from the attack, okay Imogen?" Kate told her gently. "I'll just go and get that hospital gown for you to change into." she added and left the cubicle, drawing the curtain around the pair.

Connor took his phone from his pocket when he felt it ring in his pocket. "It's your mum..."

Imogen gasped. "I dropped my phone... I'll answer it..."

"Are you sure?"

"She has to know doesn't she..."

Connor nodded and passed the phone to her.

Imogen answered and pressed the phone to her ear. "Mum..." she sad quietly.

"Imogen where are you? What did Dynasty want?" Sally spoke.

"I... I'm in the hospital... M-mum I..." Imogen sighed shakily, closing her eyes.

"What happened? Sweetheart tell me."

At the words, she tried and failed to keep a small sob from escaping her, and Connor took the phone from her.

"Something happened." Connor spoke for her as he held Imogen close. "It was a trick, Dynasty didn't want to talk it was never her... She said she'd be fine and that she was only 5 minutes away, so I went back to get my bag... I shouldn't have left her..."

"Connor. What happened?"

"He attacked her... I was gone no more than maybe ten minutes..."

"Have you told the police?"

"That will probably happen while we're here..."

"You make sure she does. I'll be there in half an hour." Sally said and hung up.

"What will happen?" Imogen asked quietly.

"Reporting it to the police." Connor said, not looking at her. "I know it'll be tough-"

"But it has to be done..." she finished for him as Kate came back with the gown.

"Right, you change into that for me and I'll be right back okay? I'll just have to ask you just to wait outside while we do this." Kate said, handing Imogen the gown and turning to Connor as she spoke.

Imogen looked up, panicked.

"I'll just be the other side of this curtain, I promise I'm still here." Connor said, hugging her again, closing his eyes as she clung to him. "I won't go far I promise..."

Imogen nodded and reluctantly let him go, and slowly got herself changed into the hospital gown once she was alone. She climbed back onto the bed when she was finished.

After five minutes Kate peered into the curtain and walked into the cubicle again, closing it behind her. "Okay, Imogen, I need you to relax as much as you can, I know it'll be difficult, but I promise you you're safe here. Connor's just behind this curtain he won't go away."

Imogen nodded and closed her eyes tightly as the nurse began her examination, something which seemed to last forever. She forced herself to remain still, though every touch, every brush of cool air over her skin made her want to curl up and shy away from the world.

"Okay Imogen, I'm done now." Kate said gently, and covered the girl back up again.

Imogen drew a shaky breath and slowly opened her eyes just as Connor stepped back inside the cubicle as the curtains were opened again. "Where's mum...?" she asked.

"She just got here. Also... the police are here." Connor spoke.

Imogen stiffened and her eyes focused on the white sheet covering her legs. She knew she had to speak up, but what if they didn't catch him? What if they believed she allowed it to happen? Would Connor really stand by her? If it got to trial, could he really sit and listen to every detail that happened? He'd come so far ever since the fire at school, she couldn't bear it if she was the one to set him back and make him start a fire again.

Connor watched her silently, he knew she would be worrying. He sat on the edge of the bed and gently held her hands in his own. "Imogen look at me."

Imogen slowly looked up toward him.

"Tell me what's going on up there."

"I don't even know myself..." she admitted. "I just want to know that you'll be okay..."

"Why are you worrying about me? It's you we have to think about you're the one who needs support right now."

"But-"

"If you're worried I'll go do something stupid again then don't. I learned my lesson the hard way. Stop worrying about me because there is no need." he cut across her.

Imogen sighed and nodded. "Okay..."

Connor smiled a little and looked up to see a female police officer walked closer.

Imogen followed his eyes and she froze again.

"You don't have to do this now." Connor looked to her.

"Yeah... Yes I do..." Imogen said quietly as the older woman stood in front of them.
