AUTHOR'S NOTE: Sorry, I had to skip a week (I had a speech meet to attend). My reviewers of the week are Alexa S and Lily P because they were nice enough to review me! Seriously, they were the only ones (and I thank you two soooo much!). Writing this chapter was SO MUCH FUN! I got to be all creative and make up my own lore and stuff! Writing these are HARD! I always try to get my information dead on, but the Avalon website doesn't have info on Lorren and Marlin and TONS OF OTHER STUFF so I have to refer to the books…
TO THE STORY!
Disclaimer: This stuff belongs to the first author (of many) who got me to cry because of a book: RACHEL ROBERTS! :D
Adriane
"Care to explain?" The warrior asked, staring down at the ferret. He knew where she went in her dream? Where? How?
"In your dream, I believe you visited the Plains of Brynn. They're connected to elemental magic. It's a real place, I've been there before…once," Ozzie explained.
"If anyone can visit, what's so special about it?" Adriane asked, baffled.
"It was destroyed some time ago," Tweek cut in from atop a bookcase in the corner, "No one understands what happened to it, but it was once- and probably still is- crucial for a mage to spend time there before reaching the title of a level three magic user,"
Kara put her hands on her hips, "So… in order to be a level three mage, we need to go to the Plains of Brynn and… do what exactly?"
The E.F. waved one of his twiggy arms dismissively, "It doesn't matter. The Plains were destroyed. End of story. There's no way to get there,"
"Yes, there is," Emily put in, looking pointedly at Adriane, "Adriane's been there, and I bet she could get there again if she tried to," The warrior had her doubts, but put on a brave face and nodded as the eyes in the room turned toward her. Emily looked back at the furry mage, "You said the Plains were connected to elemental magic. How, exactly?"
Again, Tweek answered the question, "Each symbol of the elements is supposed to open a doorway to a test called a Trial of Brynn. If you succeed in opening the doorway and passing the trial… well, that data isn't accessible to me, but somehow your gems will evolve again into level three stones. As for its connection to elemental magic…" He paused, trying to come up with an example, "Kara, do you remember when you had to save Lyra and the Fairy Realms by creating elemental talismans? The objects in the Plains of Brynn are the same, simply on a larger scale,"
"How were the Plains destroyed?" Emily asked.
"No one knows the precise reason, but there are various rumors. Some say that the elemental magic inside became too great for the Plains to contain and it simply imploded. Others say that the Guardian of the Elements closed it off in order to protect its magic from dark forces. A couple think that the angry paladins of past mages joined together and destroyed it out of spite for magic, which I doubt. It is impossible to know the reason without speaking to someone who was there, which is impossible because, as I've already told you, the Plains of Brynn have been nonexistent for centuries,"
"Well, as we've already told you, Adriane has been there in her dreams, as I'm sure she could do it again," Zach said, a smile breaking out on his face.
"Adriane," Emily asked cautiously, "Would you be willing to try?" Adriane nodded slowly. Yes, she'd be willing to try.
Zach
When the sun sank in the evening, four mages, two princes, several magical animals, and an EF gathered around a bed in the mansion on which Adriane lay. Zach looked intently at the warrior, thinking that, even though he knew she was strong, he hated to send her into danger. Her black hair surrounded her like a dark halo, and her eyes eventually drifted shut. Her friends watched in anticipation, waiting for the girl to worldwalk. Dreamer, his black fur shining, whimpered by his bonded's side.
Everything seemed fine for a few moments, but then Adriane began to breathe heavily and she let out a small cry. Whether it was in pain or fear, Zach couldn't tell, but either way, he hated for her to be in any sort of discomfort. Adriane gasped and let out a scream of pure terror, but her eyes remained shut. Without thinking, Zach reached out and wrapped his hand around her wrist, his palm pressing against her wolf stone.
The boy felt a jolt of pain in his chest.
The world went dark.
Adriane
The warrior had worldwalked, not into the Plains of Brynn, but into a nightmare. She stood in a field of carnage. Bodies lay around her, some gasping for breath, others not moving at all. Eyes glassy and unseeing, they each looked toward the sky as if searching for their lost lives. Adriane looked around, her mouth gaping, and her eyes rested on a group of bodies not far away. She froze.
One body had hair like orange fire, spattered with blood. The features on her face were hard to discern. Her hand gripped another, not far from her. This second girl had matted, yellow hair, which must have once shone like gold in the sunlight. Adriane, seeing them, drew a deep breath. Not being able to control her fear, the warrior let out a small cry. It wasn't the mutilated bodies of the two girls which caught her attention, but the fact that the red-haired girl had a small, heart-shaped jewel on her wrist, and the blonde had a teardrop shaped one around her neck.
"Emily…Kara…"
The red-haired girl opened her eyes, "Adriane…" she gasped. Adriane screamed, the girl's eyes weren't the kind ones that Adriane knew to be Emily's, but deep orbs, swirling with blacks, reds, greens, and purples. Sickly colors. Dead colors.
The warrior's jewel flashed and pulsed, shooting a jolt of pain up her arm. Adriane spun around, eyes landing on a blonde boy who stood behind her. His appearance was so unexpected, that Adriane's fear jumped to new heights. Her wolf stone exploded in a flurry of silver and gold. Adriane fell, unconscious.
Zach
After grabbing onto Adriane's jewel, Zach found himself standing in an empty field with nothing in sight. No one was around, no one except Adriane. She was facing away from him, gasping for breath, looking pointedly at something in front of her. Her jewel flashed, alerting her that he was there, as it had done many times. Adriane spun around, her eyes, red in color, landed on him. Her jewel exploded in color and Adriane crumpled to the ground.
"Adriane!" Zach shouted, running to her. He knelt next to her and lifted her head into his lap. He took her hand and stroked her cheek, eyes searching frantically for some way to help her.
There.
He saw something in the distance.
Zach lifted the girl into his arms and ran toward the far-away thing. He eventually arrived, coming to stand in front of a massive mirror, one of the doorways used in the fairy realms. Its surface rippled, and Zach took a deep breath, stepping forward. He was consumed by a cold sensation and immediately found himself standing in front of a throne that seemed to be made of glass. On the throne sat a girl.
Zach looked at the girl, "Who are you?" he paused, "And where are we?"
"I am Brynn, Gaurdian of the Elements. And this, my friend, is the Palace of Ice, my home, and the heart of this land,"
"This land?"
"Why, the Plains of Brynn, of course,"
AUTHOR'S NOTE: Alright! There's THAT chapter! I hoped you like it! It's vacation next week, which means I might post two or three chapters if I have time! The more you review, the more I'll write, how about that? :D
