They said that the Champion was a compassionate person.
Rumors of Hilda's kindness spread throughout the land, bolstering the courage and hope of the civilians; surely someone as nice as her wouldn't let anyone get hurt, and would bring them to a new age. And kind, indeed, she was.
The problem was, she wouldn't let herself get attached to anyone.
People knew only of three of her Pokemon.
One, Zekrom, everyone had saw emerge from its orb; this was the entire reason they placed their trust on her, because a hero of ideals will strive to make the region as perfect as a dream. However, no one seemed to care that Zekrom and Hilda never really had the real relationship between a trainer and their trusted Pokemon. It was purely business, Hilda reasoned; Zekrom would help her kill Hilbert, and she would, in exchange, give up her life for a perfect region.
Just like in her dreams.
[It's not going to happen.]
She and Hilbert would go down together no matter what.
A twisted dream of an unrealistic hero.
The second was her pride and joy, the symbol of the rebellion. At first, there was some opposition against the symbol; it guided people to their deaths, people had protested, but once she made up some crap about the true meaning, she found that they accepted words rather easily. Words she was good at; she could control others with her words. She didn't know what to make of it.
It resided on her shoulder all the time, and by far, this was her favorite. This Pokemon replaced Jirachi in her heart, although Jirachi would always hold a place in her heart. She would make sure that this Pokemon would never get hurt. "Eliminare", she called it, modeling after a language she had once read in a book. It meant to eliminate, or to take out.
A shiny Litwick; haunting in remembrance of those who had died and had their souls taken away by the monarchy, the people would claim that they could see the smiles and the horrors of their loved ones reflected in its flames. The green eyes stood for the evils which brought on deaths, reflected in the green of greed and jealousy.
If it were anyone else who had it, they would kill it and the person immediately.
But since it was her, it became symbolic.
The evils and the memories of those who died laid on her shoulder, and listened to her. She would be the one to bring the monarchy down to its knees. If she could control such perfect imagery of evil on her shoulder, then she could carry the weight of the world on the other shoulder.
[Atlas carries the world on his shoulders, but it's much less likely for her to do so. And so she starts falling.]
The third was the second symbol for the Rebellion, a less than subtle one.
A Roserade named "Diaoyu".
There was once upon a time, in another place, she had to explain, two countries torn apart in history and war. There was a group of islands fought over by those two. Tensions rose because of these, and maybe she had to make up the ending because she really didn't know how it all ended or whether or not it even ended decisively, she said that no one got the islands.
But the name was a symbol for war, and she felt glad yet disappointed that the people put this much trust in her when she really didn't know what she was doing. She didn't know anything. She just wanted revenge; a stupid, petty act, but nevertheless, she puts on a smile and hopes that she'll win.
She has a fourth.
It doesn't come out much.
It makes her feel much better having it, but still, there's something in the air around it that makes her want to cower. A true hero never cowers, a voice insider her mind echoes, and she hates that she believes it.
Either way, Kyurem regards her coldly.
It must surely hate her, Hilda thinks, but it still compliantly goes inside her Master Ball, and she pockets it. It must be furious.
But even the forever neutral must pick sides, or else there will always be sides.
