Chapter Fifteen
Disclaimer: I do not own the PJO or HoO series by Rick Riodan. I do own all of the OCs mentioned, except for Walker. He belongs to Star Holder Commander.
Adrienne's POV
"What—what was that thing?" James asks, staring at the body of the decapitated monster on the floor. Like the cat-man and the drakon serpent thing, it wasn't disintegrating.
Keegan sighs while sheathing his dagger. "A Shapeshifter of sorts,"
"What was it doing here?" Jade asks, her voice trembling slightly. She had recovered for the most part, but it was obvious she was still in shock.
"Hades if I know. I just tracked it here, been trackin' that thing for three weeks and just cornered it here,"
"Then where is my aunt?"
He shrugs. "Dead probably,"
Jade sucks in a sharp breath and stands up, walking to the guest bedroom. I was about to go after her, but Tristan grabs my arm. "Let her be alone for a few minutes,"
"Why are you kids here anyway? It's obvious you're demigods, considering the weapons and the fact that it didn't faze you to chop off that thing's head,"
"Uh, on a quest of sorts," Tristan says, his eyes lingering on the man, suspicious.
He holds up his hands. "I get it, I get it. Strange guy you never met, you're not gonna just tell me your life story," he adds, "What are y'all doing here though? You didn't realize that you were in the same quarters as a monster?"
"We don't exactly have a Satyr or Cyclops with us to tell us when one is nearby," James grumbles.
"And this was that girl's aunt's house?"
"Yes. And her name is Jade," I say, looking at the man. There was something familiar about him, which was strange because I had never met him before in my life.
"Huh. Well, wherever you guys are going, best of luck to you," he nods and begins making his way to the door.
"Wait!" Tristan calls after him.
Keegan pauses and turns around, a look of surprise on his face. "Yea?"
"Uh, where are you going now?"
He shrugs, "Wherever my tracking takes me,"
"Oh, well I guess, stay safe?"
I felt like smacking Tristan for a job well done on the most awkward conversation with a stranger ever.
"Uh, thanks, I guess,"
"Hey, Keegan," I say.
I could see he was beginning to grow irritated. "Yes?"
"Did you go to Camp Half Blood when you were younger?"
He seemed taken aback by the question, the shock clearly showing on his face. "Uh yea, yes I did. Why do you ask?"
"You just kinda look like a descendant of Apollo, my mom is one of his daughters,"
"Really? Who's you mom?"
"Kyra; Kyra di Angelo."
"Wait, so let me get this straight, your mother is actually alive?" Keegan asks, shocked.
"Well, yea. Why wouldn't she be?" James says.
"I just—I thought surely Callie would—Never mind, it isn't important right now. The question right now is, why are you guys all the way up here in Boston and not at Camp?"
"Our parents and little brother are basically the reason," I say.
James explains the situation and the Iris message he had received from mom and dad a while ago, shortly after they were taken. Also that we were getting help from Walker.
We were heading down to the car garage of the complex. We had all figured we wouldn't be able to sleep any more after the Shapeshifter incident, and it'd be better to find a place that serves early breakfast and wait for Walker to show up.
"I kinda remember him. I think I actually saw him on Olympus one time five years back,"
"From what we know about him, he doesn't much like Zeus. You can tell he's a bit of an outsider amongst the gods, simply because he actually cares about demigods and the mortals, unlike most of the gods," James says.
"He is that. He helped your mother a great deal during the last year she battled Callie. I assume he told you about Callie?"
"He filled us in on it, not all the details, just enough to know what happened," I say.
"She was one evil bit—uh, devil," he reddens slightly at his almost slip-up.
We had reached the entrance to the car garage, and Jade took out the key card and swiped it. The door made a small beeping sound then opened with a 'click.'
We quickly find the car towards the back of the garage. Tristan unlocks it, and we're about to throw our packs into the trunk when Keegan freezes. His eyes grow slightly wider and he looks around, motioning for us to stay still and quiet. He takes out a dagger and silently creeps around the car.
Tristan takes out his sword, and James his bow and arrows. I quickly reach for my stars while Jade unsheathes her own sword. The four of us follow Keegan's steps around the car, and then see a creature truly terrifying.
It had slate gray skin like ash, and its whole body was covered in razor sharp spikes. It was at least eight feet tall, if not taller, and it had spider-like legs with smaller spikes sticking out from them. It's neck was abnormally long, and it's teeth were like needles.
But what was really terrifying about it was its eyes. They glowed ruby red, and pierced you like a poisoned arrow, almost paralyzing you with fear.
"So we meet again, Spiky. Come to steal away someone else I love?" Keegan asks, his voice fragile, yet sing-songy at the same time, "Well you can't, because there is no one else."
Before I know what's happened, the thing charges Keegan, giving an awful shriek, and they plow into the car, completely crumpling the front end. Keegan screams at us to run out, but none of us moved a muscle. We weren't going anywhere.
A/N:
And Spiky returns! I thought it'd be a nice spin with Keegan coming back too. James and Adrienne might possibly learn more about Kyra's past from their uncle, and possibly some of his as well...
Sorry for the late update. Today's been a long day. My mom and I had haircuts this morning at nine, then we came home long enough to take the dogs out and make my dad's lunch then we left to run some errands. Then when we came home I had some schoolwork needing to be done and that took me a couple of hours, and when I was done with that, we went and ate dinner. Then, we went to see Maleficent. It was FANTASTIC. 10/10 recommend going to see it. Everything was beautiful about it and I think it gave a brilliant message.
Well, last week was incredibly long, as I had predicted. Twenty hours of work that involves wedging clay and cleaning does not go well with an already aching wrist. My mom says its early carpal-tunnel. which really fucking sucks considering I'm a potter and I use my wrists a lot. Even if I weren't a potter, I still use that part of my hand/arm a lot, so it'd be sore anyway.
I'm so incredibly ready for next month to get here. I take my road test on the fourteenth! I know I'm going to do well, but I still have a little bit of anxiety over it.
