Chapter 12

Puck sat in the parking lot of Hailey's school, waiting for her to come outside for recess. He realized this part of his plan was crazy and could get him into a lot of trouble but he had to reach out to Hailey somehow.

Soon, her class came out and started playing in the playground so Puck got out of his car and went to stand by the fence. Seeing that Hailey was nearby, he decided to get her attention. "Hailey." She didn't hear him at first so he tried again. "Hailey, over here."

Hailey turned around and lit up when she saw Puck. She quickly ran over to the fence. "Noah what are you doing here?"

"Well I came to see you. I haven't seen you in a while so I had to come and see how you were."

"Mommy said you were going away for a few days. Did you come back early?"

Not wanting to tell her that Rachel lied, Puck came up with a quick story. "Well I decided not to go because I wanted to see you. How have you and your mom been?"

"We're fine but Mommy seems sad a lot."

Puck frowned at the thought of him making Rachel sad. "Well Mommy and I had a fight a while ago so that might be why she's so sad."

Hailey thought about this. "Is that why you haven't been around?"

Ashamed that she was able to figure it out, Puck nodded. "Yes but I'm going to make it up to her and you. I want to be in both your lives but I need your help."

"What can I do?"

Before Puck could respond, Hailey's teacher noticed them talking. "Hailey?"

Puck cursed to himself but turned back to Hailey so he could quickly get his message out. "I need you to bring your mom to the Central Park Bridge tomorrow night. Just come up with a reason for you two to go, but don't tell her it's to meet me there, okay?"

She nodded in understanding. "Okay."

Hailey's teacher called her again as she started to walk over. "Hailey who are you talking to?"

Hailey quickly turned back to Puck. "We're going to be a family after this right? You, me and Mommy?"

Puck gave a small smile at his daughter's question. "I sure hope so. I'll see you later."

He quickly walked away before Hailey's teacher could reach them. When he reached his car, he turned around and saw Hailey's teacher guiding her back to the playground so she could continue playing with the other kids. This had to work, he thought. Hailey needed him and he wanted them to be a family. He just had to get Rachel to listen to him.

While Puck was getting everything prepared for the next night, there was a knock on his door. Anticipating who it was, he quickly got up and opened the door.

"Hey Mom," he greeted.

"Noah, do you understand how expensive last minute plane tickets are?" she asked as she walked in. "And you're lucky I could find someone to watch your sister on such short notice."

"Well I'm sorry for the last minute stuff but as crazy as I am for saying this, I need your help."

Maria looked at him confused. "What on earth could you possibly need my help with? You never ask for my help."

"I know but I need you for this." He guided her over to the couch so they could sit down. "I severely screwed things up with Rachel and now she won't let me anywhere near her or Hailey."

Maria shook her head. "I knew that girl was nothing but trouble. Who does she think she is, taking your child away from you? You need to sue for custody Noah and I think we would have a good case if we-"

Puck held up his hand. "Mom stop. It's not her fault that things are the way they are right now." He sighed, knowing the only way to get her to understand is by telling her the truth about what happened. "I got drunk on the night of Hailey's dance recital and completely missed the whole thing. I showed up and basically told Rachel that she and Hailey ruined my life so she completely shut me out of theirs."

Maria frowned in disappointment. "Noah how could you be so thoughtless? Do you have any idea how seeing her father drunk and hearing him say those things could affect a little girl?"

"I know, luckily Rachel had sent her away before she had realized what was wrong with me and heard what I said. But I need them back, Ma. I'm miserable without them."

"Think about this, though. Are you really sure that you can handle a family? A few months ago, you were a bachelor living a carefree life. Are you really ready to take care of a child full time and be a committed boyfriend to someone? All at once?"

Puck thought about it. He loved living a bachelor life. He had no responsibilities and didn't have to look after anyone but himself. It was perfect for him. But after experiencing what it was like to be a father to someone and a committed boyfriend to someone else, he didn't want to give that up for anything. "I'm ready. I love Hailey and Rachel and I want them back in my life."

Maria was silent for a moment before smiling. "Then I will help in any way I can."

Puck stared at her in shock. "Seriously?"

"I've seen a change in you since you found out about everything. You are much more mature and are willing to take on such a responsibility. If this is what you want to do then I will help you. Just tell me what to do."

He smiled at her before hugging her. His mother had no idea how much confidence she gave him with her approval. If she could support him in his attempts to get Rachel back after being firmly against the relationship, then maybe he could convince Rachel to give him another chance.

"Hailey why are you suddenly so interested in going to Central Park?" Rachel asked her anxious daughter. "You've been there more times than you can count."

Hailey shook her head. "This is different, I want to go to the bridge. We don't go there a lot, we mostly just sit in the park."

"But at night?"

"I like the lights," she shrugged. "Please Mommy?" She gave Rachel puppy dog eyes that she knew she couldn't resist.

Rachel sighed, caving in. "Alright fine, we can go. Go get your jacket."

Hailey hid her devious smile as she went to get her jacket so that they could go. She didn't know what Puck was going to do but she hoped it was enough to get their family back together.

When they got to the park, Rachel couldn't help but be curious about her daughter's behavior. It was like she was expecting something to happen once they got there. She was looking around as if she was looking for someone but hadn't found them.

"Hailey are you alright?" she asked.

The little girl quickly nodded. "Yes I'm fine."

Deciding not to question it further, Rachel nodded and they kept walking until they reached the bridge. When they got there, Rachel noticed a familiar face standing there. "Quinn?"

Quinn turned them and smiled. "Oh hey guys. I didn't expect you to be out here."

"Yeah I could say the same about you. What are you doing here by yourself?"

"Oh I just wanted to get some fresh air and help out a friend." When she noticed Rachel's face turn into confusion, she handed her a rose that she held behind her back. "Follow me."

Hailey gave her mother a small push when she noticed Rachel's hesitation and they started walking again. Soon, they met up with another familiar face.

"Sam?" Rachel said in shock.

He casually smiled at them. "Good evening ladies. Decided to take a walk around the park?"

"Well that's what Hailey wanted. You know I can't say no to those eyes."

"Good. That's what we're hoping for," he mumbled. "Anyway, I believe this is for you." He handed her a rose. Ignoring Rachel's confused face, he smiled at them. "Let's walk."

They walked a little further until they came across another familiar face. Rachel shook her head. "Okay what is going on? Finn what are you doing here?"

He simply shrugged. "I just wanted to get out of the apartment. I get bored sometimes."

"All of you just so happen to get out of the house around the exact same time?" she asked suspiciously.

Finn smirked. "Just coincidence I guess. By the way, this is for you." he gave her a rose and by then, Rachel was sure that there was something going on. "Come on. I think you're going to want to see what's over here."

They kept walking until they reached Puck and Maria. Rachel immediately frowned and turned to her friends. "Okay someone tell me what is going on right now."

"You are going to listen to what he has to say," Finn simply answered.

She shook her head. "Absolutely not. Come on Hailey, we're leaving."

Hailey pulled her arm. "Mommy please listen to him. I want us to be a family."

Unable to ignore her daughter's pleas, Rachel sighed and turned to walk to Puck. When she reached him, she held out her arms. "Well your plan worked, I'm here. What do you have to say?"

Puck took a deep breath, ready to plead his case. "Rachel I am so sorry for what I said. I was drunk and stupid and you have to believe me when I say that I didn't mean any of it."

"Then why did you say it?"

"I told you, I was stupid. It was a stupid mistake and it will never happen again."

Rachel shook her head. "No, I believe it happened for a reason. You wanted out and you got it so you can go back to living your life and I'll go back to my life with my daughter."

"Our daughter," he corrected. "She may have been your daughter before but now that I know about her and have spent time with her, Hailey's just as much mine as she is yours. You can't take her away from me now."

Before Rachel could respond, Maria stepped in. "Rachel I know I'm the last person you expect to be saying this, but I think you should give Noah another chance."

Rachel looked at her confused. "You hate me, why would you want me to be with your son?"

"I was wrong. You are probably the best thing for Noah and it would be a shame if you let this go over one mistake."

She sighed and looked back at Puck. "You think getting your mother's approval would make me forget what you said? You said I ruined your life. I thought we were finally becoming a family and you just ruined all of that. How do I know you won't ruin it again?"

"Look I know I screwed up big time," he told her. "But I would never do anything to jeopardize our family again. You and Hailey are the best things that have ever happened to me and I wouldn't trade any of this for the world. I brought our friends and family here so everyone could know that I can't live without you. After that night at the graduation party, I always wondered if we could've worked out and I hated myself for not taking the chance to have you. When I found out that you were here, I knew I had to find you." He smiled, remembering the minute he found out Hailey was his. "And then I found out about Hailey and I knew it was a sign saying that we belong together." He looked at Hailey, who was standing behind Rachel. "I love Hailey more than I ever thought I could love any kid." He looked back and stared Rachel straight in the eyes. "And I love you. I will spend the rest of my life making everything I've ever done bad up to you. I just need you to give me the chance. That's if you love me too."

Rachel stood speechless at Puck's confession. She couldn't deny that while she was hurt by what Puck said, she knew in her heart that he didn't mean it. She could tell that Hailey was suffering from not having him around anymore and if she was being honest with herself, she missed him just as much. It was nice to finally have someone who cared for both her and Hailey and maybe she shouldn't give that up. Looking around at everyone, Finn, Sam, and Quinn nodded in approval and when she looked at Hailey, Hailey nodded eagerly.

She turned back to Puck and looked at him with tears in her eyes before smiling. "Yes I love you too."

Puck smiled before picking her up and twirling her around. When he put her down, he pulled her in for a searing kiss. When they pulled away, he wiped her tears. "I promise you won't regret this."

Rachel smiled at his promise. "I know I won't."

Before he could say anything else, Hailey ran up to them and Puck picked her up. "Daddy your plan worked."

Everyone froze hearing Hailey call Puck something other than 'Noah' including Puck. When they stared at him, waiting for his response, Puck snapped out of his shock and smiled at his daughter. "You're right it did. Looks like we're a family now."

He hugged her as everyone stood by and smiled at the new family. Rachel watched as her daughter finally got the father she wanted and she was finally getting a partner in parenting. While she was thinking, Quinn walked over to her.

Rachel playfully rolled her eyes. "Go ahead and say it."

Quinn looked at her, confused. "Say what?"

"I told you so."

"Okay. I told you so." She and Rachel laughed as they joined everyone else in celebrating what happened.

They're back together and Hailey finally called Puck dad! Next is the epilogue then that's it. Let me know what you think about the chapter. Bye for now :)
